That mop is actually called a Nenette Mop. I know 'cos as a nipper, I found it (complete with tin covering) hidden in the cupboard under the stairs. The cupboard was turned into a larder to make things easier in small kitchen in the 60's.
good to see its nice and original inside i hope this is being kept, the bodywork needs attention but generally a sound car i think i have a four door 1955 lovely cars
Good night Claire and elton thank you very much for your lovely videos of Claire and you finding barn finds and some of the vehicle's going and sharing all of them with everyone that watches your channel on you tube please keep your videos going it makes me 😅
Nice job. Incidentally, 50p coins predate decimalisation. They were first in circulation in 1969 to replace 10 shilling notes and get people used to decimal coins. 5p and 10p coins were in circulation the year before.
Those people saying not to wash a barn find have never worked on a car in their life. They don't comprehend the practicalities of working round a health threatening environment. In a nut shell if you haven't got anything good or helpful to say. Zip it!
The 50p and 10p pieces were introduced before decimalisation to get the poor unsuspecting British public acclimatised to the huge price increases that would follow the new money. Bring back pounds shillings and pence I say.
Great to see it cleaned and the seats come up well 😊 The Apache helicopter guys were well impressed 😂 Anyway look forward to seeing the progress I personally would sort the rear end out 💯 put that right some things just need doing in my opinion it maybe part of its history but it needs putting back really I think so 😊😊 Great videos Phil
Claire, if you want to foam from top to bottom, feel free! In my eyes you can do no wrong. I'm sure the little Austin feels much better for the shower.
She turned out really good after the wash. Good job Claire and Edward did on the interior! Can't wait to see her when all the chrome etc is polished and replaced. Cheer.
Wow! Great effort there, Clare. That little car is looking MUCH better for your ministrations - and I'm sure if it could talk it would say a huge thankyou! Figured the seats wouldn't come all the way back (sadly), but it's great to see that the typical malady of the A30 - the gradual disappearance of a floor pan - hasn't been the case here. The biggest problem (besides getting her little engine to turn over again will be to beat that driver's rear guard back out. Fortunately, the A30 is made of some truly heavy steel and will take a serious pounding with large hammers. Many moons ago, my aunt pulled out of a side street in my grandparents' A30 and didn't see the car that was flying along until it embedded itself in the right front wing and pushed it hard against the inner wing and radiator panel. Dad pulled the wing off and "for fun", decided to belt it with a four pound club hammer and a length of 4x2" timber and see if he could straighten it out to anything like it had been. After about 10 minutes, the wing was in a rough outline of its former shape and within half an hour, he had swapped the big hammer for a ballpein and eventually he traded down to the hammer and dolly stage for a while. After two hours, the wing was pretty damn close and looked nothing like the twisted and useless piece of metal that it had been. In the end, it looked so much better than the wing Dad had found as a replacement, so he put the original back on instead. I reckon that right rear will come out fairly easy, but you will need to be more brutal with it than you may think to get it to move. Man, it's a straight and relatively rust-free little car - a great start for a sympathetic restoration.......so I'm quit jealous! Awesome effort - she's looking good and I look forward to seeing it progress. How's the little green one going now? Also, have you been out much in the black one at all? One last - Barn Dust is only a good look in auction houses. NOBODY would have it on display in a museum or as part of their collection like that, would they? Anyone who would buy the little car to restore would want to see what's under the crud in order to know what condition it was in and what it needs. Totally agree with cleaning it up. All the best
Hi again. I thought you said the car was a 1955? In which case the glass is newer than the car!! I certainly believe it is a 55 as (I’ve mentioned this before) I had a 1955 Morris Oxford reg 14 BPC and whilst plates of that vintage weren’t strictly age related I wouldn’t have thought there was that much time between 14 and 31 BPC. It looks so much better for a wash!!
Well done on a nother save guys. But you never clean old coins. Because if they are going to be worth anything then they must remain dirty. Just paper & lead pencil them to reveal details.
Genuinely love 31BPC - Great little Nod to the Austin on Elton's hoodie - With the front seats, consider the Mini front seat base diaphragm to replace the webbing.
bringing back some fond memories app 1970 got pulled over by a police panda car top off redhill he told us to get out of the car and all six of us were taller than him he told us to get back in the car and sod off good old days
The coin RW is a ruffler walker . Used in one arm bandits . Back in the day jackpots paid out tokens which you could only spend behind the bar etc , bit of a con . I collect slot machines and have hundreds of those . Nice video as always.
Thank you. I do remember fruit machine tokens, now I think of it. There was a fruit machine in our local chip shop and if you won over a certain amount, it paid out in tokens and you could afford cod and chips that week 😂
Great reaction . . . The car has come up lovely . . Nice job . . Shame you sanded that 50p . . . . Mite of been a rare one . . . Not now . . Take care team . . . . 💐🍻🙏🇳🇿
Thank you. There are quite a few of those 50p coins on eBay, all about £5.00-£6.00. I had to check when I saw your comment....and I'm glad it wasn't too rare 😯😂
In this circumstance, as much information as possible as can be gathered is helpful. Heritage certificate and details from the original registering office. We may get the original plate, but it’s unlikely to be transferable.
@18,44, The Beatles played their last concert..The Beatles' final live concert took place on 29 August 1966 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California.
1970 50p. That sounds unusual. I remember the 71 switch over well. 2 bob bit from 1966. I remember that year very well too, but in black and white. 🤦🏻♂️
In the 70`s I had two A 35 VANS and a A30 car. wonderful little Graunchers. One van I had, cost me £25 , drove it for a year trouble free , insurance £11. sold it for £35. the car cost me £15, and I think the other van cost me about £25 , The only problem was when the mist came down, but ten mins. in the RAYBURN with the door open, that dried the distributer cap out and away she would go. I loved them.
What a nice video again. The car looks not too bad I think. If I were you, I would make the car technically in order and roadworthy. But keep the in- and outside more or less as it is now. Personally I don't like cars being restored to "better than new". You can never restore patina! Thanks again for your video. You are such a lovely couple and your video's are so relaxing. Always take care!
We had the same Toshiba TV when I was a child! I have awesome memories of me watching cartoons on the same TV 😊 The speaker grill was half fake, behind the grill was a set of controls for fine tuning the image and frequencies, I remember touching those settings and screwing the channels 😅 Also had a remote the size of a brick.
I do like watching you guys . I have to say you're just so "British" and charming. And I was thinking we do like to call our cars, him or her. That proves that they do have character. And non more so than the Austin A30/35, a design icon. And they should reintroduce them in a modern realisation, like they did the mini...
Looking quite good and there doesn't appear to be too much rust, which is great. The interior is amazingly different, congrats on all the hard work and having water spraying around in such cold weather couldn't have been much fun. The other important thing that happened in 1966 was that Australia converted to decimal currency on the 14th of February. 2 shillings became 20 cents, 1 shilling became 10 cents and the 10 shilling note became the 1 Dollar note. The 1 pound note became the 2 Dollar note and so on. The 1 Dollar and 2 Dollar notes have since become coins. That's some boring trivia and absolutely nothing to do with Austin A30s 😄
11:02 That cleaning thing looks like a 'Nellie'. It would have come in a tin lined with car polish. Not to be confused with a modern house-cleaning item,
The mop is a duster. Came impregnated with some kind of polish and sealed tightly in a tin can - they were designed to whisk off a light layer of dust before you took your pride and joy out for a Sunday drive.
Looking lovely 😍. Have you been able to see how much damage there is from the story of crashing into a ditch. She seems to be a little lop sided when you were pushing her to get washed. And there are some interesting ripples down the passenger side when she's wet. Hopefully nothing major 🙏 😬
I remember my Dad having an A30 when I was a kid. He was always buying old cars to get up and running. I do remember him having trouble with the starter motor on the one he had as it kept sticking but the old starting handle always got him out of a jam lol. Keep the great videos coming guys, sending best wishes
Great job Claire hope to see more soon . The Nenete Mop you have is with out it tin hodder it us to dust off cars after left in the garage . I have one with a plastic handel . I think you may still get the wax you put on after washing the head (try Halfords). PS Still use it at times but mind what you put in with it in the washing machine.
The Nenette mop is still available today - though it comes in a tacky plastic container rather than a nice tin. You can certainly wash the mop and buy more Nenette fluid with which to treat it. I still use mine for a quick wipe over at car shows.
We used Nennetes on the Australian Government garage Cars when I was working there and I use one to this day it's useful in maintaining the shine and gloss without water , and fantastic for dusting interiors and wooden furniture and pianos.
The 50p piece was introduced in 1969, before decimalisation in 1971. It replaced the 10 shilling note. The 10p and 5p were introduced in 1969 as well, to (gradually) replace the two shilling piece and shilling. So we had three brand new decimal coins while we still used £sd.

I have an original one still in the tin. I actually use it around the house wish I could add a photo.
good to see its nice and original inside i hope this is being kept, the bodywork needs attention but generally a sound car i think i have a four door 1955 lovely cars

Glad to hear it. That’s what we want to do, make other people smile 😊
Carkyology got to love it!
Definitely pinching that term for a future video! 😂
wow different car for a wash brill !
Nice job. Incidentally, 50p coins predate decimalisation. They were first in circulation in 1969 to replace 10 shilling notes and get people used to decimal coins. 5p and 10p coins were in circulation the year before.
i agree clean top to bottom good job great vid thx si.
Love the channel guys. Keep up the good work.

Great job Claire and your videos are brilliant.
The 50p and 10p pieces were introduced before decimalisation to get the poor unsuspecting British public acclimatised to the huge price increases that would follow the new money. Bring back pounds shillings and pence I say.
Surprised you are attacking it with a powerhose
It did a great job on our other one and the rubbers in this one are in better condition, so no worries.
Great to see it cleaned and the seats come up well 😊
The Apache helicopter guys were well impressed 😂
Anyway look forward to seeing the progress I personally would sort the rear end out 💯 put that right some things just need doing in my opinion it maybe part of its history but it needs putting back really
I think so 😊😊
Great videos

Why don't you use a respirator when cleaning the interior? There may also be hazardous substances, such as mold.
Claire, if you want to foam from top to bottom, feel free! In my eyes you can do no wrong.
I'm sure the little Austin feels much better for the shower.
That tells you how good coka cola is for your body 🙄😤
Please don't drink that stuff Claire! I keep on at Steph to not drink it, it's bad for your teeth and body in general! I call it her "rat poison"
Great job there claire always aim to go from the top to bottom keep up the good work the channel is great
She turned out really good after the wash. Good job Claire and Edward did on the interior! Can't wait to see her when all the chrome etc is polished and replaced. Cheer.
Top job done there by Claire! Great little cars, the A30's, looking forward to seeing if this one runs.
Apparently the R&W Coins were used to operate cigarette vending machines.
The company was founded in 1934 up until 1969 by Bill Ruffler & Fred Walker
So many of these were black, yet you find two coloured ones!
(I might have already posted that. It's all repeats these days, mind.)
Wow! Great effort there, Clare. That little car is looking MUCH better for your ministrations - and I'm sure if it could talk it would say a huge thankyou! the bodywork ain't bad for an oldie, the car is not bad either.😅
I thinks he’s talking about me, Claire. 😂😂
What a wonderful lady.
Great job.
Hi again. I thought you said the car was a 1955? In which case the glass is newer than the car!! Apart from the dents the car is in reasonable nick luvely jubbly hopefully mechanics is okay enjoyed the video 😊😊😊
why did you start with the roof, spraying towards the other clean cars in the background you will just make them dirty
Looking good. I will follow with intrest. Don't forget to put that fuel cap back Elton. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
Well done on a nother save guys. But you never clean old coins. Because if they are going to be worth anything then they must remain dirty.

That's how my neighbour looks on a frosty morning when she sets off to work. Frightening....
bringing back some fond memories app 1970 got pulled over by a police panda car top off redhill he told us to get out of the car and all six of us were taller than him he told us to get back in the car and sod off good old days
Who is the rude ungrateful dude telling you stop?
Of course, the other important consideration is, should you clean front to back or back to front? 😬
That first section of grime, foam and running water is surprisingly engaging! No wonder the Apache crew were so interested. 😂
A friend of mine who is a spray painter always told me "top to bottom" as it means you're not getting dirt on recently cleaned parts, gravity.
10m50s ‘oh my word’ indeed! Put the 🐭 back in the house!!
Don't sit on those front seats as the webing underneath has gone & they are very brittle & could rip
The A30 is so small that stand back with the foam gun and you do top and bottom in one blast
Looking good. It must be 50 pounds lighter too.
No filling up video on this car?
The wait for the next instalment is killing me 😂
What great videos you make ,I love your enthusiasm 😊😊
Thank you. We love these Baby Austins!
Yay! more A30 fun!
The coin RW is a ruffler walker . Used in one arm bandits . Back in the day jackpots paid out tokens which you could only spend behind the bar etc , bit of a con . I collect slot machines and have hundreds of those . Nice video as always.

I know what it was!
1966 was the year I was born.
My mum said it was the best thing that happened that year👍😎👍
Mums are always right!
Great reaction . . . The car has come up lovely . . Nice job . . Shame you sanded that 50p . . . . Mite of been a rare one . . . Not now

Nickname. Peanut. I had one. 😮😅😢😊😂
If it’s not on the DVLA database, what do you need to do to get it registered and will it be able to keep its original plate?
In this circumstance, as much information as possible as can be gathered is helpful. Heritage certificate and details from the original registering office. We may get the original plate, but it’s unlikely to be transferable.
Please do not remove the sticker in rear window, it's a reminder of simpler times
From top to bottom is the right way to do, 😃👍
Looks lovely. I do top to bottom lol
Definitely wash.
Beautiful old girl.
but wht we watch you wash, eh ?
Brilliant!😍
So nice seeing years and years worth of dirt and grime just wash away with the jet wash!
We agree. It's quite satisfying.

My mum's first car and I kind of still like them. Wouldn't mind getting one and making it a sleeper car with small block V8.😊😊
Good memories of those little Ausyin A30s & A35s...they were the fore-runner of the original BMC Mini range....
@18.21, if i remember correctly, the 10p, 5p & 50p all came out pre decimal in 1971, maybe 1969 which rings a bell
Love the Disabled Driver No Hand Signals Sticker. She's beautiful and the car is too lol

That old classic A30 Austin clean up so good. I would not repaint the car just leave it as is... can't wait for next episode. G'day from Australia 🇦🇺

Great video guys - such fun. I'd leave the patina and battle scars to tell the story and just enjoy it. Good luck getting her running.
Got to love an A30, you have done a fab job Claire in cleaning the car, looking forward to the mechanical tinkering.👍
The Nenette mop is still available today - though it comes in a tacky plastic container rather than a nice tin. You can certainly wash the mop and buy more Nenette fluid with which to treat it. I still use mine for a quick wipe over at car shows.
50p coin replaced the ten shilling note from 1969 they were both in circulation till decimal day .
Great video both of you! Its so difficult to get motivated in this cold weather but the lovely Claire has inspired me to do something 😉😁😀❤❤❤❤
IN DAS THUMB NAIL, YOU COULD BE A CRAZED GUN MAN WITH AN ASS AULT RIFLE, VERY INFLUENCING.
Thankfully, it was just a crazed woman with a jet wsher 😂
We have changed the thumbnail what do you think of the new one 👍
Great video guys. Well done on the wash Claire. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼
We used Nennetes on the Australian Government garage Cars when I was working there and I use one to this day it's useful in maintaining the shine and gloss without water , and fantastic for dusting interiors and wooden furniture and pianos.
Already a winner a couple of grands worth of registration plate 😁😁😁
It's certainly sitting well & not sagged on the back end (i mean the A30 lol) & it looks like it still has it's original jacking points
Yes I'm inclined to agree, wash from top to bottom. 👍
Best cleaning job I've seen for a while...
Very well done 👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🇳🇿
@14.02, those clip things on the dash vents are a mystery
Claire you have done amazing job love your videos guys love the A30
The old gal looks better than concourse in my opinion, you did a great job of cleaning her 👍🏻
Yes ! Finally a new video. It's going to be a good weekend now, thx Elton & Claire :)
Good job team Claire and Elton , keep up the good work love the videos 👍
@9.41, that is the original battery tray on the passenger seat
@11.00, yes a Nanette, i've got two & both have the metal tin it goes in
Can we see the Green one . pls
You will soon 👍
I really admire you enthusiasm and passion in saving these lovely old cars, really looking forward to the next installment!
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed the video

Thanks...I had forgotten that. Yes..of course. Long time ago now. 👍🏻
Definitely top down Claire
how come ur henry is called an edward??
We honestly don’t know. We bought a reconditioned ‘Henry’ from eBay and that’s the name he had on him 😂
There is a whole range of names for these vacuum cleaners, Henry, Hatty, George, James etc
@@johnchetwynd3618 The female ones work twice as hard - but the mouth on them is twice as big 😂😂🤣
