He spent 2 years in Calais France and 2 years in Dover England to dig this. They, The Robbins Company, even brought him out of retirement to do it. @darklibertario5001 3 года назад

      @@riotdrone Humans and the economy are intrinsically connected, profit is only possible if your investments are being useful for society, in this case, the construction of the tunnel benefited millions of people and thus generated a lot of profit, which is why it was built. Without profit, it would never be done in the first place. Profit moves the world, and it's not wrong or imoral, it's the reward for doing something that helped someone.

    • @riotdrone
      @riotdrone 3 года назад +1

      @@darklibertario5001 that's pretty naive, so you think billionaires are so rich because they're done the most good for people? because i think they're that rich mainly due to exploiting the labor of other people. human beings are not intrinsically connected to the economy, for the majority of our history there was no economy

    • @darklibertario5001
      @darklibertario5001 3 года назад +2

      @@riotdrone That's actually a very common thought, but it's actually a misconception.
      Why billionaires are billionaires? Well, it depends on who we are talking about, Jeff Bezos became a billionaire because he literally created a service that interested millions of people and made peoples lifes at least a bit better. His service also helped the growth of thousands of other small businesses and made society overall more rich.
      The same can be said about the people who created Google, Microsoft, Apple etc, you might disagree with their policies and even think they are "evil" (which I'm sure some of them certainly are), but they didn't obligate anyone to buy or invest in their services, Google never came to your home and made you use their service under gunpoint, you use it because it is actually useful and it probably helped your life to be at least a little bit more confortable. That's true for millions (in some cases billions) of people, and small services and appliances make a big difference at the scales we are talking about, that's why they had so significant returns.
      There's nothing inhertly evil about this, we are both using RUclips right now, and although I really disagree with many policies RUclips has, it's still an incredible platform and this very conversation we are having would be impossible if RUclips didn't seek profit. Exploiting people doesn't make anyone rich, being a dick to your employees doesn't make your product seem more appealing or make it more useful, and in the end, people can just quit their job if they don't like it, but the thing is, those jobs wouldn't even exist in the first place if it wasn't for profit.
      And now about what you said involving humans and the economy, no, humans are involved in judgments involving value and energy since the dawn of time, economy is at it's core precisely this, a bunch of people deciding where resources should go. The first people to discover agriculture only did this because they decided to invest time and effort into learning this hability, this was a judgment of value and in it's core, an economic action. Deciding how and where resources should be spent.

    -the Japanese said - we will build it for two years and 95% that tunnels will meet
    -then they asked Americans - and they said we will build it for 1 year and probability that tunnels will meet will be 70%
    -then they asked Russia - and they said - ok listen we will do it for 1 month, the probability is 50/50 that tunnels will meet, but in the worsest case you will have two tunnels lol

    What bollocks. My Dad and his team made the first breakthrough and had already shaken hands and received wine from the French. After that breakthrough they were told to make themselves scarce as the cameras and the suits came down to pose for the news.

      No. My uncles team had already built the tunnel, ridden the first train through and shared a few cans with the French by time the cameras got there

      Yes. Why don't we keep being one of the tiny net-contributors to the EU to prop up corrupt states.
      Why not stay in a union which wishes for the unvetted migration of people from Terrorist-affected nations
      Why not stay in a union which forced no migration rules on all states
      Why not stay in a union which has destroyed our great nation...
