  • We recently camped for the first time without electricity at Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Rocky Mountain National Park! Before the trip, we got set up with 2 batteries and one, 200 watt solar panel for our pop up camper. It worked great!
    Here's what we used*:

    Thanks for this video Perfect timing for my wife and I as we just bought a new Excel II popup trailer. We need off grid power for a CPAP unit. Cheers.

    A simple power inverter will let you convert DC (battery) to AC. Then you can run your low draw electronics like fans, lights, tv, Wi-Fi router projector

    I'd add to your solar panel to make 400watts and mount on the roof, triple the battery storage and add a MPPT solar controller. The controller will give you 30% more power from your panels to the batteries thus allowing you to add an inverter so you can run a 700w microwave or other low wattage appliances. There are plenty of DC appliances out there and fans are one item I have high on any list. I also recommend a solar generator with foldable solar panels. You can plug these into the truck, charge them and have power on rainy cloudy non solar producing days. Just some thoughts you might find useful. Cheers

      Thanks for the ideas! Maybe someday we will expand, but we don't need much. The only thing might be running the a/c, but we probably won't expand THAT much.

    Thanks for the video! Nice info without overwhelming technical stuff. I have a question about the existing converter… Did you keep it working on parallel with solar system? Or you just by-pass it?

    Thanks for the video! We are looking to do some boondocking, so it’s helpful to know what others are doing. I’ve been looking at the two golf cart battery setup as well.

      Our friend that recommended it has been using this system for years and says it's great! He is very knowledgeable, so we went with his advice. 😇

    I run my camp off 2 6 volt batteries, solar charges batteries then go to a 200 watt inverter, withe the inverter all my plugs work and run off battery power, tv, dvd, lights fan all work off 110 outlets

    I like what you are doing, keep up the good work. I might bump into you camping in Illinois sometime. This year with high costs of everything, my pop up sits at home here in ford county in central illinois. Normally I get a couple small trips in. I plan on doing a few cosmetic improvements myself, with nice vinyl wood plank flooring most likely next year. I would recommend using covers on the pop up struts on your camper to prevent moisture from trickling down and rotting out the wood floor that they are secured to. Keep having fun camping!

      Thanks! What is your favorite Illinois camping? We love the Shawnee and Starved Rock

      @@AdventuresinPopUps same here in regards to Shawnee. Im afraid to list what campground i stay at, fearing it will become imposdible to get into uf o do, but i camp in that same arra every year once or twice... just not this year due to the high prices of everything. I wandered into a cute camp ground right on the Ohio river that I plan on staying at sometime, Tower Rock I believe. No power or showers... but a nice place to just chill out. Do you guys go down to E-town floating restaurant for catfish? If not, I highly recommend doing so. Pounds Hollow is great for swimming. There is a swimming hole across from the Iron Furnace that the locals use, that's close to the Garden of the Gods. One Horse Gap down in the same area is a nightmare to find, but wow is it a fun and stunning hike. A great place for a picknick.. sitting on a rocky bluff and just chilling. There is a one horse gap lake but I recommend finding the trail and hiking it. Do spray your legs and were pants to protect yourself against poisen ivy. I think Hog Rock gets the bulk of the campers there but I'm not into the biker and party camp grounds. I do recommend taking a trip down to Heron Pond while in that area. It is close to Metropolis and is my favorite place in Illinois to hike. You always find surprises on the well traveled trail such as snakes and even sometimes Salamanders. Just watch where you step and walk around them. Yes, every single time I've had at least on cottonmouth on the trail... no big deal.. They will leave you alone if you leave them alone. Herond Pond has a board walk that goes through the only Bayou in Illinois and it well worth the visit. I could just take a chair and sit there all day soaking in the beauty. Illinois could use more campgrounds in between, it is difficult to find places to camp right now due to the surge in campers.

    Don"t forget you can buy a 12v pure sign wave inverter to run a battery charger and can charge your batteries while the engine is running. Cost of inverter is around $60.

    Hello Rachel & Blake, thank you so much for your videos. I own a Jayco 1209SC pop up and I’ve only been camping for one year w family and your videos along with a few others have helped me to get up to speed. I’m now thinking of solar and really appreciate the video you posted here. I am curious how did you connect Bestek unit to your battery? Are you able to create a follow up video with connection linkages? Just wondering since it looks like it needs to be plugged into a cigarette lighter first? Thanks, Jerry

    • @AdventuresinPopUps
      @AdventuresinPopUps  2 года назад

      We cut off the cigarette lighter end and spliced it to a 10 gauge wire that goes to the charge controller in our bench. Then the charge controller goes to the battery. Maybe we can make a quick follow up video one of these days showing it better.

      Clever! Thank you for the prompt reply. Love your videos. Please keep them coming. In the last year, it’s been wonderful to visit local Southern California state campsites in our pop up with my family to explore God’s country. Thx, Jerry

    Good video would have been really nice if you could have actually showed the components and how you have them set up for us that have NO Clue. Maybe in the next video 👍
