Mine started after gardening, several months before covid appeared on the scene, at the age of 65, and reoccurred December 2019. But it wasn’t officially diagnosed until after my vaccination because it was only every few months, so a 2 week Holter missed it. Should I blame covid? Should I blame the vaccine? Should I blame the procedure I was having when it was caught?
Or maybe I should just understand that afib is the most common heart arrhythmia, found in 5% of people over 65, and any occurrence around covid or other events is just a coincidence. The gardening and associated dehydration may have been a trigger, but not the cause. The jab was irrelevant because otherwise it would have shown up in the tracking data.

Had multiple cardioversions, 4 ablation procedures, On amiodarone for over 6 year. blood thinners etc. 3 weeks after 4th ablation suffered a Cardiac Arrest, Luckily I survived though I suffered a brain injury. Went home with a wearable cardiovest. Had an ICD implanted after it repeatedly going off the last time while I was driving. My DR FINALLY suggested a MAZE open heart procedure. 30 days of recovery at home. Been 6 years since, no blood thinners, no amiodarone, and a nice steady heartbeat. Get off the treadmill of repeated procedures and simply get the MAZE. Problem solved over 90 percent of the time.

I am a 79 year old (in 2 weeks) retired ER physician and I am a rabid advocate of the health benefits of cycling. It truly works miracles and as an example I can still do 4 minute 19 second on the USAA Cycling 5 minute TT (a 4% average upgrade at 6300 foot elevation in Colorado Springs). I weigh low 170 pounds. I can't believe how good I still feel thanks to cycling BUT one area doctors never discuss (and this is huge) is alcohol and the heart. Alcohol is a potent cardiomyotoxin (meaning it is toxic to the heart muscle and causes heart muscle inflammation) but this is dose related. When I was in training I had a 23 year old die from his excessive alcohol intake causing congestive heart failure. In the ER I would see young people come in with an arrhythmia over the holidays due to excessive alcohol (thus the title "Holiday Heart"). As one gets older the risk of Atrial Fibrillation goes up logarithmically and AF can be exercise induced. AF causation is multifactorial and these precipitators make it much more likely during a ride: dehydration, low potassium, hypothermia (even drinking a smoothie can bring it on!), lack of sleep, too much caffeine, thyroid excess, and others. But no one ever seems to bring up the subject of excessive alcohol prior and the risk of AF. I love a nice red wine and this leaves me conflicted but I have found that half a bottle 2-3 days a week seems to not precipitate AF so one does not need to totally do without. My take home message to all us geriatric cycling advocates is keep all those precipitators to a minimum including alcohol and you can continue to partake of the Fountain of Youth and not need what most doctors would recommend: blood thinners or cardiac ablation!
Also, watch your heart monitor (Garmin or whatever) like a hawk and when your rate starts getting in the upper ranges just back off to keep it out of trouble. Very high rate from exertion can bring on AF. AND be sure you are not overweight because any fatty tissue on your body gives off inflammatory cytokines (signaling molecules) which leave you in a chronically inflammed state prone to AF (and cancer).

I had an ablation since November 2022 and my Afib stopped. I also taking Metoprolol 25mg 2 tabs twice a day am/pm & Amiodarone 200mg 1 tab once a day preferably taking in the morning. I have also AICD installed since November 2017 an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator. My AICD used to shocked me started August 26, 2021 to October 23, 2022. The last firing was October 23 for 25 times in a single day from my house to the ambulance and to ER. The paramedic gave me an intravenous medicine to suppress my Afib the Amiodarone. So, I've gone to ER many many times and I tried a lot of different medications but still having Afib. And my Cardiologist recommended me to an Elecrophysiologist and after ablation I never had an Afib but my medications makes me dizzy & lightheaded & i even passed out one time and I was rushed to ER again and all my vital signs are normal. So, I was discharged the same day. I hope and pray that my Afib is totally cured. If I were you, have an ablation procedure I didn't feel anything because I had a general anesthesia....Goodluck♥️

The biggest factor that caused my AFib was antidepressants. Nardil was the biggest culprit. Then after a few months of treatment and getting back to normal sinus rhythm, I tried Prozac. It could be that your body isn't really 100% over the Covid and therefore, the fairly strenuous exercise is triggering the Afib.

Try TMAD or OMAD and animal fats only. No seed oils. Worked for my pre-mature heart beat. Gone. Remove life stress, stop drinking alcohol, sugar or seed oils. I bet it'll improve. I eat lots of fatty meat, eggs and cream. It is heart protecting and artery clearing. I promise.
Doctors are shaking in their boots that lots of disease will go away. Look up Dr feng, dr lustig, low carb down under.
I was and still am sort of an athelete. My pre-beat was here for 15 years and I tried supar hard to exercise it away. That was never going to happen.
I needed nutrients from meat, butter and eggs. Especially if you workout a lot.

Ive just been diagnosed with Afib heart scan no valve damage etc on low beta blockers Bp and blood thinners? but question the need for the latter as at 76 I eat a healthy diet very rarely drink never smoked but do not like the side effects of the medication and question why I should be taking them .

@@libbycockrill3920 Most doctors go by CHADS2 Score for Stroke Risk Assessment in Atrial Fibrillation and if you score high enough then they will put you on a blood thinner. Generally, I think blood thinners don't cause a lot of side effects and if you have an issue with one they can try another. On the other hand, the other drugs often have side effects and don't even work for a lot of people in controlling Afib. I've cut my Metoprolol dose back because my BP isn't that high and was feeling weak on the higher dose. A few things you might do. Buy one of those cuff / cordless BP measuring devices. I have an Omron one. Monitor your BP at different time including when you're having an Afib episode. Also, I bought a KardiaMobile 6L so I can do ECG's to check if I'm in Afib and my heart rate when I am having an event.

spoiler nothing works you might get a few months of normal but will always go back to afib
most people i have talked to sead they went back to afib before recovering from the surgery and ive never met 1 person who was in fill afib who came out of it but i do know people who have died from the procedures that tryed to fix it
the meds alone almost killed me now i don't take anything and i fell so much better
clean living and lots of rest is the best medicine
