I just ordered my own disc detainer pick from Sparrows and was trying to find replacement tips in case one broke, and was surprised to see they didn’t sell any. This video is perfect and I’m definitely going to make a few to use while I practice picking with it.
Thanks for checking it out, glad to hear it helped. Its a great feeling when you get a lock open with something you made. I have links in the description to the exact ones I use, if you are having trouble finding them. Best of luck in your disc detaner journey. Take care 👍
Thanks brother, Im just now see all the possibilities with them, they are great to have, Id like to start collecting a few different size of them to. Appreciate you taking a look, have a good one 👍
Thanks for checking it out, sorry I didn't have exact dimensions, not very good with that. Hope it helps someone, gives a rough idea at least. Would like to see yours, are you going to post video?
@@RookKnight Mine is not as well finished as yours. I will probably include it in the next video I make. Don’t have much free time with helping the grandkids with virtual home schooling.
I know what thats like, Im a full-time single parent, and virtual school is a whole new world lol I wish you luck my friend👍👍and I'll keep an eye out for your next video 👋🔓
Thats exactly what got the ball rolling for me, I had my Sparrow tip for a day or so, all the handle did was slide down, and a piece chipped off, I was heartbroken, so I started looking into making them myself, after I figured someone else might have the same problem, so I thought this out there. Thanks for checking it out, and for leaving an awesome comment. Take care 👍
I enjoy watching Mr. & Mrs. Deadlocks. I really appreciate you subbing, and knowing that you liked the video is awesome. Hope you have a great weekend 👋🔓
I was googling disc tool tips and this was one of the first links that popped up... You're famous!!!!.... Among people who pick disc detainer locks.... And who make their own tools... and who share it online.. ... Yeah about twenty of us worldwide. . Still famous tho
Thanks my friend, I kinda went in reverse but my video before this one, I used my tip, but hopefully will have a few more locks to test on screen soon. Anyway really appreciate you taking a look, hope you have a great week ✌
Thank you my friend, hopefully it will help someone When I broke my tip from sparrows, I was so upset Now Im set with the ones I made, and I think they are strong too. Hope you and the Misses are all safe and well, take care brother
@@RookKnight I’m sure you could probably harden it with a torch. I was just thinking that it would save a lot of grinding getting it to the correct hight since it’s basically already there.
It sounds like a really cool idea. It can't hurt to give it a go. The hard part might be finding a nail with the proper length and shank size. If you do end up giving it a go, post a photo, and tag me. I would like to see how it came out. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks man, probably not the best video, but it will give someone a jumping off point. I will say, I started using a dremel cutting wheel, to cut the extra off before going to the snding barrel, bit of a time saver.👍 Have a great one too bro✌️
Nice going on these :) I cut the tip to rough thickness with a hand saw and then filed the shape by hand so far, as it's quite easy and fast by hand too. I made mine from 2mm as that fits in the chinese picks. I just got the sparrows one last week, so now I should order some 1.5mm rods. Nice work Rook Knight!
Thanks, it's fun making your own, especially when you get a open with it. I don't know if it helps, but I put a link in my description, if you want to snag the 1.5mm it was from Amazon Really appreciate you taking a look, and hope you have a wonderful week my friend 🔓👍
definitely want to keep the metal cool, otherwise you change the molecular structure and the steel becomes very brittle. i appreciate the tip. i dont see myself buying one since i really havent ran across any disc detainer locks. im still working on s.p.p. but eventually i will make my way to buying one of those picks. i see next month they are supposed to have more and i was so close to buying one in the first run. thanks again for the video!!
Thanks for checking it out, this was a long time coming for me. I have wanted to get into DD locks for a long time. Definitely got to keep the metal cool, same with making picks. Metal integrity is everything. I was surprised they sold out for the second time, but November should be a 3ed run of them. Just thought I'd pass on what I have learned so far, my inbox got flooded then I posted my last video on picking DD lock, on question on how I made the tip, figure do a video and kill 2 birds with 1 stone lol Thanks again for checking it out, and comment. Have a great week my friend
Thanks brother, A bit of both, I already snapped one of the sparrow tips, just by picking it up "to fast maybe?" But also the ones I made, had less of a wiggle room inside the discs, so it was easyer to find the gates. And just for a bit of fun too lol👍
Thanks for checking it out, that was from a old knife sharpener kit, but anything that will clap would work great, even pliers in a pinch would get the job done, I will say the knife holder, I was using work well because it was made from aluminum, witch seem to wick the heat away from the pick head. Hope that helps 👍
@@Westhelockpicker I head the same thing, and this one was the second generation. But it snapped like it was brittle, The body os spot on, and now that I replaced the tip, Im happy. I even got a open with it👍👍
Thanks brother, yeah they just take a while to make, the tools I use aren't the best, so one will usually take an hour plus because Im mostly having to hand sanding them. I just need to get some time to sit to make them.
They have them on the Sparrow website, the problem is they keep selling out, but they do get them back in every few months, just have to keep checking in. There's also a bunch of amazing disc detaner picks made by other brands, or even independent custom pick makers that make great ones that would work the same.
If you have a bench grinder, by all means use it. Just make sure you dip the steel in water ever so often. If the metal changes color, it's pretty much garbage. The last thing you would want is the tip braking off inside of a lock.
When I said to dip the steel in water, that means big or small you dip it in water. I don't know if there's a language barrier, or you're just trolling, but I don't have time for this.

Same here brother, I was pissed when mine snapped. One of the main reasons I thought, I would throw this together hoping it would help someone else. I will say after making my own, and crusching a few locks, feels good to know I made the tip profile to get it open. Also there's a few locks I have came across that need different shapes, and being able to whip them up, is awesome, the Anchor laugh, and kryptonite locks, come to mind as some strange keyways (at least the first disc on them) I had to made a separate one for each to crack them. Thanks for commenting, take care, and be safe man👍

Would it be possible to just start with a nail with the right shank size? or do they need to be a specific hardness like the injector pins?
Good question, If you could find a nail with the right length, and shank size, it might be possible. I don't know how long it would last though.

I haven't gotten the tool yet but do they really break that easy?
Snapped mine on the first day, just by picking it up 😟
I also think they are to small, so you get to much wiggle room in between the discs IMO of course

What is an injector/ejector pin?

I saw a sparrows pick sold for over $2000 dollars on ebay. What a rip off. I sense a scalper.

Bench wheel grinder works so fast. Just roll the pin between your fingers. Ten minutes...done.
If you have a bench grinder, by all means use it. Just make sure you dip the steel in water ever so often. If the metal changes color, it's pretty much garbage. The last thing you would want is the tip braking off inside of a lock.
@@RookKnight And more importantly, as the metal tip becomes small the water cooling must happen at a greater frequency.
