I so love my vmax 1700 I have the original 2009 originally purchased by Vance and Hines to develop the CS-1 exhaust system. They had it painted by criss woods in a transformer theme. Normally I would have no interest in a bike that has been painted but this was a exception being I know ghis was done brand new and not because of a crash trying to hide things. The bike has been fully tuned and is a absolute beast. Unbelievable!!! I can’t believe this bike wasn’t more popular than it is. It’s a cruiser/ naked crotch rocket blended together in 1 and a absolute blast to ride. I am a die hard yamaha fan so have the R1,R6,& even the R3. This beast is every bit as powerful as my R1 but in a totally different way. I love spinning up the rear tire right off the throttle.
Love your Vmax shows. I have the 2014 model and had the restrictions removed from the ECU. Yamaha restricts the electronic throttle to 25% at 9,000 RPM = 100HP. Moore Mafia re-flashed the ECU, that extra 100HP spins the rear wheel in all gears, anytime you want, just roll on the throttle. Highly recommended mod. Kept the stock exhaust & Cat.
I run Castrol Actevo synthetic blend in my 09 vmax. Whenever I ran full synthetic on my 88 and 85 vmaxes in the past the clutch slipped. I tried Amsoil, Mobil1, and other high-quality full synthetic oils with the same result. I have never had a problem with Castrol Actevo in 4 different bikes I've used it. I just recently changed the tires from stock to ME888's. The stock tires lasted me ~7800miles. I had no issues with the stock tires, and they performed well in all weather (didn't try snow). I used a K&N oil filter from AutoZone. Bosch filters work too, but the K&N is a good name brand. There are a lot of options for oil filters this bike will take.
Thanks for the information. I was wondering how long the stock tires would last. As for oil and filters, I’m going to stick with Yamalube and Yamaha filters to keep the 20 year/100k mile warranty.
This is a really funny argument because I run full synthetic in my cars however I run conventional oil in my brand new 2021 Kawasaki. I get it it makes no sense but my motorcycle is so new I’ve only done two oil changes thus far. I’m happy running conventional oil at this point but like you, I may change my mind in the future
Thank you. I’m glad you like the videos. You need to check the coolant reservoir while the bike is cold and level. I have an upcoming video on how to check all fluids on the VMAX 1700. It should be published in a few weeks. Stay tuned. 😎
Hey Jeff.. Really been enjoying your videos.. I noticed you used 10/50 in ur oil change.. Just wondering if you noticed an increase in how hot ur engine runs?? Changed my oil in my 2012 VMAX 1700.. Used 10/50 full synthetic and noticed that it seems I'm running considerably hotter.. Can u please let me know if you noticed any difference in the way ur baby runs?? Thanks in advance.. Joe
Hi Joe. My bike has had 10/40 in it twice and 10/50 in it twice. I have not noticed any difference between the two types of oil. I will try and look for any differences moving forward now that you have mentioned it as something to look for. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you like the videos.
one little thing. as the filter is horizontal you can't pre fill it with oil so what I do is pour some oil in it to saturate the filament inside before putting it on. it shortens the time for engine to run without oil
I have the SATO rear sets and all of the crash protection pieces the make for it as well. The clutch cover and case protectors look awesome and the rear sets are just flat out amazing looking. They have a 10 position clock style of adjustment and even at the lowest peg setting they are higher that stock which kinda sucks. I wish I could get my hands on the Yamaha saddle bags.
It's a Pit Bull Rear Stand, and it is solid. @@JeffMarcum Very good thanks. Just ordered that slimmer pan you recommended, oil, filter, and gasket. Excited to give this a shot. I went with Golden Spectro 20/50 Synthetic Blend Oil. The prior owner before me owns and operates a motorcycle service shop of over 30 years in Central Florida and that's the specific oil he recommended. It's been smooth riding so far. Thanks for all your help Jeff.
Excellent video Jeff and love the detailed instruction. Tempting me to do the oil change on my GoldWing going forward. I see that some oil over flowed was it due to the angle of the pan?
Thank you. The diameter of my oil pan opening is only 8 inches. The force of the oil when it first started draining created a stream longer than 8 Inches, and when it slowed down, the pan was too far away and I wasn't pay attention...hence, the mess. I now have and new drain pan lying in wait for the next time that addresses both the thickness issue and the opening size. You can see it here: amzn.to/3dbGdLc
Actually my clutch slipped with semi synthetic it would slip when you really got on it in the upper gears had to go back to conventional and did not slip again
I bought mine new from Orlando and rode it back to NW Arkansas a total of 1400 miles August 2020 . It took me 3 days to get back without killing myself and getting caught in the rain on multiple occasions. A gel seat cover is a must and a set of forward highway pegs. As far as mileage I’ve gotten as high as 33 mpg including some city riding. I’ve ridden over 100 miles before I was worried but still had 3/4 gallon left. I use 93 octane with 0 ethanol. The unrelenting power of the VMax makes up for any of its shortcomings I assure you. I’ve ridden mine 4,500 + miles so far and it always impresses me . Take care
James, If you are into the 3-5 day trips look at the 2021 FJR ES, also a shaft drive and a great over the road trip machine, also the same price as the MAX. But only get a 2021. :) You can probably get it much cheaper than the MAX.

Jeff that’s a great idea having a video proving maintenance was completed for warranty purposes. Good work 👍👍

Excelente servicio y trabajo, como se cambian las bujias tengo una v max igual gracias
Hi Jeff nice video! can you make a video changing the sparkplugs thanks.
If I change the plugs myself, I will make a video on it.
Wish someone made a full titanium system for this bike. The blued pipes would look so awesome.
Could you tell me how to change the spark plug

@@JeffMarcum thank you sir!
Great video Jeff. So sad to hear that our Vmax motorcycles have been discontinued but maybe that means ours will be just that more special.

I do exactly the same thing you do wow hope that fender came in brother.
Still waiting on the fender. Nobody has anything in stock anymore, everything is drop shipped.

Super video from master Jeff! :) Jeff, what brand of torque wrench do U use?
Thank you Jay. I have two Craftsman torque wrenches (one inch-lbs, one ft-lbs).
Our next step is changing the brakes and checking the fluids
Having a tough time locating the filter for the 2009-2013 years. Do you know if the other models will still work?
Yes, all the years are interchangeable. I’ve used two different years on mine already due to lack of availability.

What kind of mileage are you getting per tank of fuel?
Is it comfortable enough for 3-5 day trips?
60 mil you make tank is very small this ks one issue this bike
