  • It's Wilds of Eldraine spoiler week! This is a Magic: the Gathering commander deck tech for Brenard, Ginger Sculptor. Brenard is an amazing birthing pod commander, doubling up ETB and LTB effects as creatures are sacrificed to our pod effects. Uses new cards from the set like Gruff Triplets and Moonshaker Cavalry, alongside golem splicer cards to win.
    Every time you hit like and subscribe on my videos, a person in Eldraine is freed from their magical slumber - be the hero they need!
    Deck list: www.archidekt....
    Upgraded deck list (Jan 2024): www.archidekt....
    After playing this deck many times, I've made some changes and this is the list I will keep updating.
    I missed out three reanimation spells from the video - Storm of Souls is particularly good alongside Eternal Witness and Celestine (lots of life gain from food).
    As promised, here is a more combo focused birthing pod chain:
    Pestermite (untap Pod) to Felidar Guardian (blink Pod) to Karmic Guide (get back Felidar Guardian, blink Pod) to Sun Titan (get back Pestermite, untap Pod) to Resolute Archangel (get back to 40 life), or Avenger of Zendikar (get a few 0/1 Plants and get Craterhoof next turn) or Hornet Queen (protection) or go on with Quicksilver Gargantuan (copy Felidar or Pestermite, blink/untap Pod) Craterhoof Behemoth (beats) or Avacyn, Angel of Hope (protection) or Stormtide Leviathan (prison,protection) or Terastodon (problematic permanents).
    Join me on Fridays for 'Let's Play Leviathan', a 1v1 commander tournament featuring 32 decks in a single elimination battle to ultimate glory! While your waiting for that, there are lots of deck techs to enjoy on the channel including Eriette, Agatha and Hylda, the sister witches of Eldraine!

    This is actually such a sweet deck idea I have to try building something similar on my own time

      That's the beauty of a pod strategy, you can make your own choices about each step of the mana curve and even change up the commander to abuse the ETB's - Brenard is soooo good though, so hyped for this style of play.

    Rampant rejuvinator can go all the way up to 7 lands: two from its first life, but since its copie is a 1/1 that enters with 2 more counters (and if brenard is there an additional +2/+2) the second death will give us 5 glorious lands

      Makes me wonder what other creatures have effects based on their power/toughness and leaving the battlefield . . . Good spot!

    Great content! Im digging the idea of a Pod Strategy with Brenard. Love the idea because the copies of the creatures we have on the battlefield that are the token copies will retain their mana value so you can sac them for another creature in the deck. Thanks for your imput!

    • @mtgspecs
      @mtgspecs  Год назад +4

      Thanks man, I love your content so this is high praise indeed! When I realised the Gruff Triplets retained that 6 mana value and could be podded into Elesh Norn . . . . well, I achieved a geek like state like no other!

  • @saleen12

    Why would token copies of triplets have cmc 6?

    • @mtgspecs
      @mtgspecs  9 месяцев назад

      If a token is a copy of another permanent or card, then it has all of the characteristics of the original, including its mana cost. So, it's converted mana cost is the same as the converted mana cost of the original permanent.

    Great vid, great list, gave me some good ideas! Question: did you consider pyre of heroes, and/or was it too restrictive?

    • @mtgspecs
      @mtgspecs  Год назад +1

      I considered it, had it in the list, then removed it after looking at the creature type pathways. Humans works up to a point, some very limited Phyrexian jumps and totally falls apart at the top. I would love another birthing pod style effect but there is the idea of using Magus of the Order / Natural Order to tutor into the green creatures (Like Gruff Triplets - I'm obsessed with that card) which still maintains the sacrifice clause that works with Brenard. I just know, like my The Ur-Dragon changelings deck, this is one I am going to be tinkering with and playing with for a long time! And thanks for the kind words.

    Loved the video. What do you think about cards like porphyry node, honey drop and aether barrier? They both act as disruption for the opponents and as possible sac outlets

    • @mtgspecs
      @mtgspecs  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. It's my current favourite deck. Out of those three, Aether Barrier feels like it is the most controllable, as a taxing effect you can play around. Not for a birthing pod build, which involves tactical sacrifices, but in another type of Brenard build, I think it's worth considering and I LOVE non-staple cards that fit a theme. The other two would start working through the ranks of my poor, innocent food golems or potentially take out a creature I want in play but again, in a different type of Brenard build, I'd be game to give them a try. Not that I can afford Drop of Honey.

    Very good video about an interesting commander! Does someone know at what turn this deck wins on average? I have a hard time imagining it myself.

    • @mtgspecs
      @mtgspecs  7 месяцев назад

      It depends! The current decklist has a mini pod combo to work quickly through to the higher mana value creatures, which are the win cons. I've played it where it has durdled, and played it where it is over by turn 6/7. Craterhoof/moonshaker cavalry - they get the job done! And I think that's important. Last night at the LGS it just clogged the board without those win cons. Short answer: it can be tailored to win quick. Check the description for a pod combo. Irregardless, it's bloody fun!

      @@mtgspecs Alright! I like it! Will definitely build this commander deck, pod theme seems very fun! I would however want it to win a little quicker, around turn 5-6. Do you have any recommendations for how to tailor the deck to make it happen? I would prefer the deck having more consistency over ability to win turn 4 etc, so if its not possible to tailor it to winning faster without sacrificing consistency that is totalt fine! What should I do? Thanks :)

    So, what happens when someone blows up your birthing pod?

    • @mtgspecs
      @mtgspecs  Год назад

      That's an excellent question that I answer in the video. There's a section that talks about how we can't rely on having the luxury of working up our pod chain and talks about cards like Prime Speaker and Vivien that act as redundancy. It'll definitely get blown up. I suppose you could insert 'your commnander' in place of 'your birthing pod' in your question. That's the wacky world of commander, people don't want opponents to have nice things! Thanks for your question.

  • @volitant998

    Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Specimen Collector has an infinite combo with any free sac outlet. With any sac outlet, he makes infinite 1/1s and 0/3s. Ashnod’s Altar gives infinite mana. Peregrin Took gives infinite cards. And Altar of Dementia infinite mills your opponents.
    Just sac Specimen Collector, then have Brenard’s trigger go first to make a food token copy of Specimen Collector, then have Specimen Collector’s death trigger copy the new food token. Sac the copy, create a new copy. All the while generating infinite tokens, cards, mana, or mill.

      It's definitely a divisive term. There's some interesting articles out there where you can read both sides of the conversation. I have a 'The UR Dragon tribal tribal' build which sounds quite odd as a 'typal typal'. Some things to be aware of with this deck, when you turn your creatures into food golems, you exile them, so they wont be in the graveyard to be able to use graveyard abilities or reanimation
