Meeting 'ayabe' Yagami learns of a dirty cop known as ayabe who has valuable information on 'the mole' and makes contact with him. Ayabe sets up a meeting place for yagami where they'll deal the information, but little did yagami expect that ayabe wouldn't meet his end of the bargain... Upon arrival, yagami is greeted by a familiar face(to yakuza fans)... "Ayabe" *exhales smoke* "... took you long enough, yagami san." "... you... you're not ayabe..." "Good eye detective..." "Then who are you and what are you doing here?" *smokes again* "... a friend of ayabe's, my name isn't that important... as for what I'm doing... let's just say ayabe has done me a solid before, so it's only right that I repay him..." *tosses cigarette and enters fight stance* "So ayabe sent you to kick my ass huh... I'm a paying customer you know, didn't anyone ever tell ayabe that assulting customers is bad for business..." "... heh, you got it all wrong Yagami san. I'll let you in on all you need to know about our mutual friend... it's just ayabe's work requires him to be extra cautious, so you have to prove that you're worthy of his resources first." "So that's how it is huh, well it's on then!" *enters fight stance* *MYSTERIOUS MAN*
After fight: …”not bad, yagami san. I didn’t think a force as corrupt as that of kamurocho can birth another great detective like you. Maybe one day you’ll stand in the halls of legends as well.” “Who… who the hell are you…” “Hehe, that’s a question that doesn’t need to be answered. Though… you do remind me of a partner I once had. If you’re anything like him, you’ll find out soon enough. I’ll show you to ayabe, that’s what you came for after all.” “…thank you, sir.” (realizing he was a cop.)
This is a better excuse for meeting than in my y6 au where tanimura investigates the little asia fire before the game officially begins. I got them to meet by having yagami accept a client that tanimura was tailing for info on the Saio, and then yagami confronts him about it like "who the hell are you and why are you tailing my client" But then they get to work together after that, so I think thats pretty awesome.
I'd hoped he'd at least appear in a substory. Heck, i'd hoped we'd see Kir- uh, that Dragon tattoo guy who saved Watase in Like a Dragon at some point in Lost Judgment.
Do you wanna know my favorite part of this encounter being modded this way? It's that, canonically, Yagami in the 90s was picking fights with Kaito everywhere he went for prolly at least 1 - 3 years (age 15 - 18, before matsugane took him in and yagami was just a troubled punk kid). Which would likely mean Kaito had to deal with a Yagami Everywhere system himself, which makes Yagami using all his movesets especially funny to me.
