I love how Sam is written here. She's smart enough to think of something Ba'al can't, but she also needs his intelligence to figure out if she's right. It's great writing that makes her good at what she does without turning her into a Mary Sue.

Teal'c's expression is "I'll be more than happy to kill you at any provocation. Please provoke me." That being said, Ba'al was an engaging and rather likable character. A scoundrel through and through, certainly, but likable nonetheless.

Some of this is explained in the episode where they find a society that makes a drug from Gua'uld larvae which gives them longevity, which eventually leads to the invention of tratonin. Not sure which episode it is, but I do believe it's in the season where Jonas Quinn replaced Daniel Jackson.
Ba'al was always my favorite Goa'uld. I dunno why, maybe because he was one of the ones who was in the show the longest but probably because there were some memorable, and funny, scenes with him.
He was great because he didn't buy into their god complex. Oh he played the part and wanted to be treated as one, but he knew he wasn't all that and he interacted with our heroes on a whole other level. He talked normally most of the time. He was charming and slimy and oh so good.
Actually, in this clip, Teal'c's best line was saying nothing at all, and just smirking at Baal after Sam put him on his ass. I loved the look on Teal'c's face when Same said to Baal that there's no point in keeping Baal alive if he wasn't going to be useful. It was sort of a "I can arrange that" or "That works for me" look.
That smirk at the end was great. Ba'al, unlike other Goa'uld seem to have a form of respect for humans, even if it was incredibly small. While he was a narcissist and egomaniac like other Goa'uld, he never seemed to underestimate the humans, especially the Tau'ri. Shit, he even asked them for help during the Replicator invasion. Any other Goa'uld would probably just invade Earth or kidnap an SG team during a mission. Ba'al knew that wouldn't get him the information he wanted so he attempted a more diplomatic approach at the cost of his pride. That smile was also probably Ba'al thinking "she will make an excellent Queen."

Being a Goa'uld and quite used to being able to tell himself he was at the top of the galactic food chain for so long, to see these upstart humans completely upend all of that in just a few short years … they killed Ra. Okay, that's impressive. And then Apophis twice. And so many others as well. They'd toppled the system lords, pretty regularly did things that the Goa'uld-that he-could not do. I think he was impressed and even kind of liked these Tau'ri humans a bit. He'd never admit it, though.
Well I don't think O'Neill should take all the credit. Carter is a lot smarter than she looks, plus she's got the balls to match. So it's clearly evident that Ba'al was never going to come up on top against her through a war of words, and especially at fisticuffs.
Of all the Big Bads SG1 faced, Ba'al was the best. He wasn't the toughest, the most evil, the most close to success, but he didn't fall for his own bullshit and he played it smart. And he was charismatic as hell.
The late 80s until the early 2000s were really a great time for Sci-Fi. I remember having Star Trek: TNG with Picard as my role model. A man who respected rules and law, but knew there were times that you had to break them, though you did not do so without careful consideration of all other alternatives. A man who put morality before orders, and before even the greater good of humanity or his crew. And here, Captain Carter, a woman who knows she's capable, fights for what's right, but isn't so prideful as to not ask for help when she needs it. She's also very likeable while also standing up for herself. An incredible character. Shame role models like these are so few and far between these days...
Way better than whatever the hell Brie Larson did to Carol Danvers, that's for sure. Samantha Carter had room to be a character with growth. (And still wasn't going to take any crap from a second rate under-system-lord, even if he was a bit more skilled at this stuff than she was.)

To Ba'al, being perceived as a god was a means to an end. That's why I have respect for him as a character. He didn't buy his own bullshit and his motivations were simple: He wanted power and he would do anything to get it, even impersonate a god.

Besides, the technology won't be classified forever, and my company will be first in line to develop promising new things I know already work." His company will be the one that builds the offworld site with an Alteran gate and a Tollan-style gate. The Tollan-style gate links only to a twin on Earth which is open to the public under IOA jurisdiction. The real big bad of the Stargate series that goes with all of this … is us. Because who ever could be a bigger threat than the Goa'uld and the Ori, if not for us ourselves?
I always find it intriguing that ultimately, the Goa'uld are still reliant on human nervous system responses. Like do they feel the human's pain, or is that a subconscious act response somehow by the host? But then again, that IS where the symbiote is attached right? They are apart of the Nervous system, therefore they are synced with it, and they feel the pain of the host... hmmm...
I would assume that they can decouple themselves from the pain although I'm not sure if they may not loose access to other sensory input as well. It wouldn't be a good idea either way since they are dependent on the host body and pain is usually there for a reason so deciding not to feel pain could possibly lead in the host just falling over dead because he had an injury the Goa'uld didn't catch since he didn't feel the pain. I would assume that's why they evolved to understand when the host feels pain in the first place.
God this will always be my top favourite show of all time, well written characters, brilliant arcs. Even with her knowledge, Sam needs help, another good point to her character. They didnt make her a Mary-Sue that could do everything first time. And Ba'al was always my favourite System Lord, Cliff Simon R.I.P.

Even with her knowledge, Sam needs help, another good point to her character. They didnt make her a Mary-Sue that could do everything first time.

That one line about Sam only being relatively intelligent on Earth reminds me of Rocket telling Tony Stark that he only a genius on earth. Both good lines.

Charles Meaux he wasn’t the card dealer. The card dealer was an actual dealer from the casino they shot at. Name is like Andrew something. A lot of people get confused because of their likeness, but it isn’t him
