    I know federer is the genius, the artist, but reducing rafa to "lots of effort" I think is damaging, because we can forget he's a magician a virtuoso in his own right

      @@VelhaGuardaTricolor, of course, there must be an effort but in terms of skill, no one compares to how talented Roger is. Rafa has a talent of course but his game is much more based on physical strength than Federer's.

      @@wellyngtonamaral4097 I respect your opinion but completely disagree with it. Roger's game is 50% SERVE, 25%chasing balls like crazy, 25% going for the kill WHILE Nadal is 5% serving, 35% chasing balls like crazy, 60% making the opponent unconformable with angles, spins and strategy. They both hit amazing forehands, amazing backhands, and amazing volleys, so serve aside I don't see too much technical advantage on Federer's part. Mind you NADAL was a pro much younger and have had success much earlier in his career. They are both great. To assume what you assume is trying to diminish the extreme quality, talent, intelligence, strategy, spirit, mental power and maturity NADAL has. Pretty much what FEDERER have but not in the exact quantities. After all, lets face it 26 out of 40 times NADAL was better than Roger. I've seen all those matches and I recall a ton of amazing shots, drop shots, ingenious plays and strategies being deployed by NADAL, not only effort as you put it. And I have see also a ton of effort and physicality from Federer in those matches too.

      Velha Guarda Tricolor about the numbers you showed... 1 serve is one of the most important skill to have in modern tennis, 2 “chasing the ball like crazy?” I’ve never seen him running like crazy, even though his footwork is one of the best of the tour (if not the best). Also you can’t even compare their volleys (is more like a weakness on Rafa’s game, Roger use volleys as a powerful weapon), same goes for the drop shots. Rafa has strong baseline balls, his strategy is basically pushing the opponents backwards until he finds a place to hit his winners, I’m not saying that is easy to do. Actually no one does this better than him. You can’t say that a player is better than the other by looking only for their matches one against other, sometimes one player is good against an specific style of playing there are tons of examples of this on tour (Taitsipas is better ranked and always looses matches against Auger)

      @@wellyngtonamaral4097 At the end of their careers you can probably make a case for each of the "Big 3". Depending on your favorite you will be biased. Rafa is the greatest fighter ever. Roger plays the most beautiful tennis ever. Djoker is an absolute machine when he's on. Rafa is my favorite so I prefer him...and he's beaten Fed on every surface in a Major 😉

      Maybe there will be new guys and girls coming through. Look at the 2000-10s, we had so many great players. But in the end, only 3 made it big. Like in football, we can see some potential new faces for the 2020s but in tennis, it's complicated. In the past there were many rivalries with Sampras, Agassi, Bjorg, McEnroe, the Williams, Evert, Navratilova, etc. And we reached the top with Roger and Rafa. Now, let's see what the new kids will bring. But I have to say I'm a big worried, especially for the WTA. I used to want to be a tennis player like them as a kid, they looked so cool, the matches were always entertaining. This match was the most incredible I had ever seen. I was so happy for Rafa. Now, I don't see much creativity and contrast. But let's see in the future.

      So true! To this day, it's almost too painful for me to think about. Remember when John McEnroe said, right after Roger broke Novak's serve, the next game on Roger's serve "could be the most important important game of Federer's life"? We were all getting ready for a coronation. Perhaps Roger, too, and he forgot his own best advice.

      There's an interview with Gilles Simon (peaked during prime Fedal era) think he explained it best- Federer didn't do anything wrong coming in on that match point- works 98% of the time (exact same play won him Wimbledon 2012 vs Murray) but Djokovic is just that good. He is other-worldly when it comes to intense points under pressure, almost makes him play better most of the time. Not saying he's the absolute Goat, all 3 have a case based on criteria... but for sure the sport will be set back when these 3 are done

    I was there on Henman's Hill and I loved ever single point of that long rain delayed match, but The AO 2012 Final was the GOAT hands down. • @sasook
      @sasook 5 лет назад +5

      What hurt the AO final for me was that the styles were too similar. Two baseline defending machines....amazing court coverage sure & definitely the GOAT for physical prowess shown but there was no contrast, which made it a bit boring for me.

      @VelhaGuardaTricolor 5 лет назад +1

      @@sasook I understand and respect what you saying, but I honestly think of that game as the all time pinnacle of the sport, therefore if there was another player on court that day other than Rafa and Nole it would have been 3-0 easy. NADAL and DJOKOVIC were just perfect. Prime Federer himself would have had ZERO change against either that day (Roger lost to Nadal in the Semis btw). Rafa was still a machine and Nole was in GOD mode. That match couldn't have been played any different. But hey. We can agree to disagree. Cheers!

    • @sasook
      @sasook 5 лет назад +1

      Velha Guarda Tricolor You’re making some really strong claims there. They were perfect *against each other* because they know each other so well. You don’t know how they would have responded to someone else that they’ve played not as often. Stanimal for example, or a fit Delpo. Prime Fed was better than you’re giving him credit for - 30-year old Fed was giving Nole more trouble in 2011-2012 than Nadal was, as a reminder. Prime Fed, logically, is obviously better than 30-year old Fed. Would Prime Fed have won? No prolly not, not with how slow the court was playing that year (the reason the match was so long in the first place). But 3-0 easy? Highly unlikely. I know you love this match but let’s stay within the realm of reality here.
      Here are a few examples of matches I personally think are better than the AO ‘12 final:
      Rafa-Thiem USO ‘18
      Djokovic-Stan AO ‘13
      Rafa-Verdasco AO ‘09
      Fed-Djokovic W ‘19

    [HELP] This is just a stunning film !!! I am translating this film to my mother tongue and would like to share it to as many people as I can.
    But there's some places I couldn't here clearly. If you pass by and have some time, please could you help me to check if I was wrong.
    I would be grateful for your help. Thank you so much in advance!
    *Note: I will UPPERCASE and mark '???' specific points where I have trouble listening.
    1. 0:36 that you just feel very honoured and privileged to be playing on such a PERFECTLY LAID grass court.
    2. 2:39 Federer’s simply in a different WORLD at the moment ???????????????????????????????????????????? (whole sentence)
    3. 2:57 He's been in the zone for the last five years ???????????????????????????????? (whole sentence)
    4. 3:19 ????????????????????????? Rafael Nadal in superb form.
    5. 3:52 ??? strong ?????????????????????????????
    6. 4:00 No doubt ??? THAT there's been some surprises, you know, especially Andy and Novak losing and when you see this DRAWER sort of being narrowed down and you see that Rafa is the BIG FAVOURITE in the other section. I'm the big favourite in my section. Obviously you start thinking more about, you know, the possible final.
    7. 7:16 Wimbledon's at distant magical place that IS across the ocean that had THIS AURA ?????? beauty.
    8. 8:25 THERE'S WASN'T ever such tension in the men’s final. A tiebreak in the fourth set.
    9. 8:44 I had this TELLING me like super START?
    10. 10:35 you know, he's more emotional and he wears his emotions more in sleeves. You CAN/CAN'T sort of see what he's feeling more.
    11. 10:47 So Federer, 26 YEAR old, MY STROKE from Switzerland (why not YEARS OLD? what does that mean by MY STROKE?)
    12. 12:16 both players ?????? time in the ball well
    13. 13:02 ???????????????????????????????? First ??? to the Spaniard in his ATTEMPT to win Wimbledon for the first time
    14. 13:21 On the surface, if you're just watching as a spectator, you might just look ??? ??? so good.
    15. 14:00 Most fundamentally, Federer is a sporting ?????????
    16. 14:21 Nadal stands for effort and its associated qualities: ENDURANCE, muscle power, fortitude, stamina

    • @Dman9fp
      @Dman9fp 3 года назад

      Yeah it's only a very subjective opinion. Over the years, the only somewhat consistent baseline/ agreement between people I've noticed is slam count, But there's loads of factors that doesn't even consider (time ranked #1, h2h's, peak play vs longetivity, most bagels dealt (just joking on that, had to break up the monotony). The Goat conversation does nothing but keep people glued to the tv when there (historically past decade and a half) was only 3 of the same guys winning the big ones over and over and over, at least way more than not
      Edit: and of course there's loads of recency biases. Heck even a few years back, I remember reading even Agassi and Graf couldn't agree who the "goat" is lol. Everyone emotionally invested probably has a fav. in their heart (highly influencing who they consider the goat) & just use the evidence they can scrap up to put one of them on a pedestal. But objectively, collectively the Big 3 are the Goat/ closest thing to it at this time

    Why does nadal like to play defensively? And he dont play near the net anymore. Roger barely has to move during rallys.idk why nadal always hits the ball straight to his opponents,rather than hit to the opposite side. Or sometimes when he does get to the net,he never just drops the ball barely making it over the net. Instead he still hits it hard straight to the opponents.
    What is the reason to play defensively. ?He clearly loves to run around. Idk makes no sense to me

      @@stevenkunzer9027 well i know that, but i was saying sometimes. (i said sometimes) when the ball goes wide or if an opponent lobs the ball, he barely tries to get it. Im actually watching him right now. My biggest pet peeve is that he never puts it away and hit winners. He
      Never hits the ball cross court. . He wants to keep the ball alive. Like right now, when the ball goes way up high, he had about 4 chances so far to hit it cross court. Hes he is one the most athletic player in the world, and hes my fav player, but for reasons why i stated above, are costing him, hes hanging by a thread.ITS SUPER IRRITATING. he went to the net a lot back in the days, but not anymore. Sometimes, hes so stubborn. i dont know how he manages to win.
      I guess his strategy is to wear out the opponent, hoping they will make an error. But hes always the one running around. I cant even watch anymore... Btw sorry about my adhd

      1. Narrative, Federer was going for his 6th wimbledon title and hadn't lost a match on grass since 2003, Nadal was good on other surfaces but he was mainly a clay court specialist, this match changed Nadal career forever.
      2. Drama, it was pretty dramatic especially in the 4th tiebreak where Nadal and Federer made two of the best passing shots ever.
      3. Quality of Tennis, the match was amazing by itself with some amazing rallies.
      4. Players, Nadal and Federer rivalry is the most iconic rivalry in tennis history, Nadal and Federer couldn't be more opposites. Roger is talent, magic,style. Rafa is fighting spirit, speed, stamina. Nadal is pure defense and Roger is pure attack.
