    Great work! To be honest, I've never heard anything about using 2" PVC. I used 1 1/2" PVC for all of my plumbing on my pool. Benefit for 1 1/2" to 2" is that more pressure is created with a smaller diameter pipe causing better return flow and thus better sucking to your skimmer. So great job buddy!

    Is the pump elevated from the pool? Curious if there’s issues as pool peeps say equipment needs to be same level or lower.
    Moving mine as well, haven’t decided where

      Definitely want to keep it at or below the top water level. The lower the better. Only reason I put mine where I did is because it was close to my shop building so it just looked cleaner.

    I assume you dont live where the ground freezes or do you close it like a inground pool

    • @coltenlewis
      @coltenlewis  Год назад

      We don’t get any deep freezing. This past winter I emptied the pool water just below the skimmer and return, used my shop vac to get all the water out of the pipes and completely drained the pump and filter. Not sure if that’s how you close an in ground but that’s what I did 😊

      Good idea I want to PVC mine but close. Also add valves for a back up pump. I would add some drain valves n air fittings to blow the lines out.

    Great video! Did the pool dealer mention any possible issues with corrosion being in the dirt?

      Thank you! I bought it from the pool factory online I believe and when I selected semi inground pools it showed some of the same pools as when I searched above ground pools so I’m not sure what to expect. Time will tell. I’m going to try to post update videos if I can remember. I made these videos just to document my progress but I also hope to help people in case they ever try to tackle this same task and show that it’s possible. So it is possible but the real question is, is it worth it. That I’m not sure of yet. Lol. Thanks for the comment!

      I semi buried our pool also. It is an all-resin model so corrosion was not an issue, and it was addressed.

      Not to be critical, but your wall panel bolts should be behind a post.

    Should have used better valves. Only because when the handles snap, repairing that under the deck might suck. You are a big dude. And probably should have put a valve on front of motor

    Have you had any issues out of it. I have almost this exact setup and want to do the same thing. What size is your pool?

    • @coltenlewis
      @coltenlewis  6 месяцев назад

      So far, no issues other than the vacuum hose doesn’t work well with it. It loses prime which I’m sure has to do with some of the other comments on this video. I bought a robot vacuum and it keeps the pool clean though. It’s an 18x33. Thanks for watching!

    Dealer told me if I used PVC and hard plumbed that I should have a least a twelve inch straight run to the pump. And to use two forty five degree bends instead of a ninety to reduce the restriction. Good video. Everything still working alright??

    • @coltenlewis
      @coltenlewis  Год назад

      I get the two 45 degree bends but that didn’t seem like it would look as clean to me even though most would be covered by the deck. I didn’t see any drop in pressure and the pump and filter had zero issues last summer when I had it running. Time will tell of course. I will say, I pretty much cannot use any vacuum that you connect into your skimmer basket. It ends up losing prime in the pump which I believe is because the pump only sits a few inches below the water level. I bought a robot and that thing is awesome! I definitely plan to make a video to go over good and bad things I’ve come across after I get the pool opened back up this coming season so be on the lookout 😉

      @@coltenlewis thanks for the reply. We are new pool people and learning as we go. I’m hoping that I can get the hard plumbing done when we open the pool this spring. Your pressure is on the outlet side so I could see it being the same, however, the lack of suction would make me think that there is restriction. By the way we bought a robot too , we call her Rosie from the Jetsons. Works great!

      @@anthonybrincefield2812 ahh…well thank YOU for that info. That makes a little sense to me but I don’t claim to be very smart especially when it comes to fluid dynamics (or whatever it is) lol. Good luck with your pool. Hope you enjoy it!

      @@coltenlewis thanks, we only had a half season last year , pool was installed in July,so this will be our first full season. Deck is about done, looks like landscaping will take some time as I work in the agriculture industry so spring is a busy time for me.

    Hope it works out for ya man. Those pool walls are not designed to hold the weight of the dirt. Most I’ve seen buried have a retaining wall to hold earth back from the pool.

      Agreed, this is a very sketchy install

    • @thomasmcclellan1976

      It all depends on weather the pool was designed for partial bury. There are pools available that allow for up to 26 inches below ground and back filled.

      As long as there is water to push against the walls, you're good.

    • @Engineer9736
      @Engineer9736 Год назад

      I think it will be fine. The water has immense outward pressure. The dirt only needs a little bit of force to hold back.

  • @BSPKtube
    @BSPKtube Год назад

    There is like no water coming out of that return jet lol you're gonna have to either upgrade that pump or move it back it's meant to pump it 2-3 feet not 20+ feet algea will start to grow fast if there isn't enough circulation of water

    • @coltenlewis
      @coltenlewis  Год назад

      Thanks for your comment, but it’s been installed now for a year and I’ve actually had no issues. I understand that it’s not what it’s designed for, but it seems to be working fine for keeping the pool circulated and water clean. I have admitted that using it to vacuum doesn’t work very well because it loses prime after a few minutes when you connect the hose and vacuum head. To remedy this, I bought a robot vacuum that does a great job of cleaning the pool floor and walls.
