- Historical and current journey into the work of these Southern Rock legends from Alabama. Along with the Allman Brothers Band and The Marshall Tucker Band, Wet Willie led the charge in establishing Southern Rock out of Macon, GA as a major force in American music starting in the 1970s. The group has been able to chart several Billboard HOT 100 songs even reaching the top ten, with tunes like "Keep on Smiling" "Weekend," "Country Side of Life," and "Street Corner Serenade," amongst others. To the present day, they continue as a familiar presence on American Classic Rock format radio. For over 45 years, Wet Willie has been a staple on the Southeastern music festival touring circuit while Jimmy Hall continues to be one of Blues and Blues Rock's leading luminaries. Virtuoso of vocals, saxophone and harmonica, Jimmy Hall's musicianship is at the top of it's game and shows no sign of slowing down with age.
Great Southern Rock and Blues Band... One of the most Underrated Groups in America!
I was so lucky to grow up in the time. So much talent!
Not sure why he never rose to achieve the fame of other musicians? Let's also not forget his fantastic Sax playing.
Who watching this In 2020???????

Jimmy Hall was GREAT!
KEEP ON SMILIN
I bought Wet Willie's first album strictly because of the cover art. Was impressed with the early (to me) southern rock sound. Wet Willie II really showcased Jimmy's vocal ability. And Keep On Smilin' also. I need to find "The Wetter, the Better" album one of these days. It's too bad, but until "Keep On Smilin'" they got no airplay that I can recall on any of the Grand Rapids, MI rock stations.
Lurrrrrve me some Jimmy Hall!
These folks turned up in Virginia around 1973. They opened here for the Allman Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, and others, then showed up in clubs. Lots of fun. Jimmy is now Hank Williams Jr band manager. Jimmy tours with a group of musicians from other 1970's era country-rock bands.
The late, great Charlie Daniels used to say, "Jimmy Hall's got more soul in his little finger than most people have in their whole body." Charlie was dead-on-dick right. I saw Wet Willie in 1976 in Nashville as part of an outdoor show that had The Atlanta Rhythm Section playing first, Wet Willie playing second, The Outlaws playing third, and Lynyrd Skynyrd closing the show. It was an incredible show and all four bands performed to the top of their abilities that night. Onstage that night for Skynyrd was an obscure but at the time still relatively unknown guitarist (except in Oklahoma and in the Kansas City area) named Steve Gaines that was brand new to the band. He'd only recently joined the band. I think he'd been with them a couple of months at the time, and boy could that cat go.
Truth there.
Jimmy Hall was the best!!!

Another great southern rock band snubbed by rock en roll hall of fame
These guys were were fantastic until they decided to go national, which got em some quick attention, but killed their local fan following. I love the old soul/blues/rock/gospel sound.
I couldn't agree more. Manor isms was my exit queue. Before that they had something unique. Multiracial band, country, gospel, blues. Who can pull that off. They did. I saw them playing a harvest festival in Cornelia Georgia about 5 years ago. No one asked to hear that manorisms stuff. Dixie rock, gonna stop rainin, leona, all the good stuff.
