I enjoyed your review. I also wanted to share an experience I've had with this set up.
I initially set up the DJI RS 3 Pro using their directions on attaching the BMCC 6K Pro camera to the upper quick release plate. With the BMCC 6K Pro this meant attaching the upper quick release plate via one bolt to the bottom of the BMCC 6K Pro. After doing this I noticed that even after a short use with the RS 3, the bolt came loose on the camera - not a good sign.
I next mounted the BMCC 6K Pro in the Tilta cage. The cage secures to the camera via three bolts - two at the bottom and one at the top. Then, I secured the cage to the upper quick release plate using three bolts (which were not all available in the initial set up with just the camera). Now when I use the RS 3 with the 6K Pro the camera is much more secure. No loose bolts after use. Essentially, this change enables going from a one bolt configuration to a five bolt configuration. Especially for a camera this heavy, this makes a big difference. The cage is obviously the way to go with this configuration.

I’m aware the lidar focus can be used without the gimbal but can the remote focus be used without using the lidar as well? Is there a separate focus handle that can be purchased, either third party or from DJI, that will provide follow focus using the DJI motor provided you have set it up through the gimbal and calibrated the lens?
Solid upgrades! I want the RS3 Pro so bad but for now, RS3 serves me just right.

Sadly most of these features mentioned only work on the RS3 Pro, the lidar AF, the new dji wireless monitor/grips, and external mounting.

I'd love to know how you feel about the Ronin 4D vs the BMCC 6k Pro + RS3? I've been in love with the Ronin 4D for having amazing autofocus, gimbal and wireless monitor, for having a quick, integrated system perfect for small crews/indie films. My main hesitation now is around the removal of ProRes RAW. And now DJI have released the Transmission and the RS3/lidar focusing separately, so that begs the question on whether it's a better to grab these and pair with BMCC?! Also as BM RAW is pretty unbeatable as an efficient RAW codec! Would love to hear your thoughts having used both systems!

Hi Film Riot, Thanks a lot for this informative video -- I really liked the closeup shots of the gimbal so I could see the build quality. At this point, I am not sure whether it is best to keep my Zhiyun Crane 2 for the next few years or upgrade to the RS3 Pro. I have had the Zhiyun Crane 2 since 2018 and have been using it to make walking videos -- feel free to check them out on my channel. It is calibrated nicely to compensate for sudden turn movements (good amount of deadband). Though the micro jitters and z axis bounce movement can bother me sometimes -- especially on intense hikes.
I am wondering in your opinion whether it is worth it to upgrade from the Zhiyun Crane 2 to the DJI RS3 Pro?

Picked up the RS3 for my BMPCC6K last week, the greatest gimbal I have ever had my hands on, I do regret not getting the Pro because that Lidar would be amazing, but it just wasn't in the budget, though when it comes to budget vs quality I still firmly believe that DJI stands at the top
Does the RS3 handle the BMPCC6K with no issues ? I mean due to the weight? I’m considering get one, but don’t know if the “PRO” is needed. Thank you
@@aldojuarez94 So I had the RS3, ended up actually returning it and buying the RS3 Pro for that exact reason, was just slightly too heavy. If you have the 6k or 6k pro, I recommend buying the RS3 pro, or else your going to have some balancing issues the moment you rig out your camera at all.

Does the camera cage have to be removed? All reviews I've seen for the RS3 are with an uncaged bmpcc.
Why do you need focus on the gimbal when you can set the lens to auto focus? Can someone please explain this to me?
Doesn't the basic version have autofocus? The transmitter is just to control the gimbal through the app, right?

The most important thing: the stabilization is finally good! All that Lidar, Auto-Lock Stuff is nice but what is it worth if the thing the gimbal was made for sucks? The only reason i upgraded was because the stabilization actually beats the rs1 and 2. So there's hopefully way less warp stabilizer in post needed and more actually useable results. Great vid tho :)
Can the Ronin Rs2 assesories work with the Rs3 ?
I bought the RS3 not too long ago and I love it, however I am having an issue with it. When I connect my GH5 to the RS3 using the USB-C cable I can use all the functions like the record button and focus dial on the gimbal, but after a few minutes it disconnects. Has anyone else had this problem? I can't seem to solve it even with the help of DJI tech team.

I just got my second RS3 Pro from DJI after sending the first back after unpacking. The battery grip comes off if the locking lever is on open but without the safety button even touched. Once the grip is off it is clearly visible that the safety button moves a locking mechanism inside the gimbal but it does not hold the gimbal.
Now I got a new one and it has the same issue and when I called DJI they told me: That the battery grip falls off without the safety button being pushed is normal.
I would never trust this gimbal mounted somewhere or in underslung mode when by just accidentally touching the locking switch the whole things comes off. Anybody with the same issue?

Depends on the gear you're planning to run with the gimbal. If it's a relatively light setup, then RS3 will do just fine, if not, then RS3 Pro is the one to go.
Honestly, I'd buy the Pro version just in case I ever want to run heavier setup, with heavier lens or heavier camera. Also, Pro version includes much more accessories which are more expensive when bought separately.
True story, I bought three DJI RS2s before I got one that worked properly. The first one they out right didn't fix (sent it in, came back with issues). The second one, minor issues but the roll axis didn't balance (and yes I tightened it very well).. the third, which was my friends; flawless. Same camera/lens/cage/etc, nothing changed; just the gimbal.
What I'm saying is maybe I'm an unlucky customer but DJI customer service is GARBAGE. By the time I sent them my 5th email telling them how disappointed I was, what all I did, and how I purchased a third gimbal that finally worked; they then said they would fix my defective gimbal. I had to tell them it was too late because I sold it for a loss.
Film Riot, I've been following you guys since before you all were on RUclips; love you all. But DJI, their customer service was dirty. Cost me well over a thousand before I could get a functioning gimbal. Hopefully this comment gets some traction to raise some attention but doubtful. Maybe Gerald Undone will make an anonymous purchase one day and roast them like Edelkrone because DJI is deserving if I'm not the only one.
I understand you. I know that DJI their support isn’t always the best (as I experienced it myself). But I also think like you said that you were an unlucky customer. DJI makes so good quality for the price, but it’s just a bummer that this happened. LOVE YOU DJI!

True story... I just returned my brand new RS3 Pro because it'd violently shake and send my camera literally flipping upside down when engaging the roll axis(namely the right one). Then it'd just start shaking and shutting down on me. Another thing it'd do was it'd never center the pan axis in perfect center, it was always off by a few cms. I got annoyed and sent it back, now just gonna wait for them to address these issues so I can reorder them. This is very typical of DJI, releasing unfinished products. The same was with my DJI Mic, Action, Mavic 3 and now this RS3 Pro
@@ramsimon8045 Well that sucks. Then DJI really needs to do more quality control before exporting their products. Or something happend while transporting the device. I hope it gets fixed fast!

I'm gonna order another one tomorrow and hope this one turns out well. Let's hope they iron out issues soon for all of us, otherwise it's a great gimbal, they just need to finish the product before releasing.

That whole thangs leading me to that I would love to know about da censor so much so that you guys hafta make vid on “how it all began” to “how da heck should I know the difference the one from the other” & more importantly “what makes difference?” …. Although I appreciate the enthusiasm in the video, and the "In practice" segments I'd be interested in the real-world setup times involved in making that work seamlessly. It's not a criticism, I own a Sony FX3 FW 2.0 and a DJI RS2 and the old RSC, and a bunch of Edelkrone stuff here and there, and love them but getting everything to work together is sometimes laborious. Auto-lock is cool but not getting me to shoot faster and without issues.
Looks awesome, but I recently found out that dji doesn't update their apps for Android. Was hoping to a job and my app wouldn't open, had to delete and reinstall from a link I found in a RUclips video (RUclips coming in clutch again). I'll never buy it recommend a DJI product until they fix that, almost made a fool out of me
