I have one and there’s two things I learned. (1) Use an inside oven thermometer instead of the one on the door. (2) The BTU of the burner used makes a difference when it comes to how hot you want it to get.
As mentioned in another comment, there’s RUclips videos showing how different people have handcrafted a cover from a welding blanket to help retain heat.

Ok, I read reviews on Amazon on the Coleman oven and there are great tips on how to bake with it. Many people are purchasing a Tillman’s welder felt blanket to wrap around it (you can read the how to’s in the video/picture reviews. And put a small pizza stone in the bottom. People have gotten fantastic results. Pair that with emergency meal kits and you’re ready to cook/bake an awesome meal in a grid down/no electricity emergency!

Awesome video. Excellent choice of emergency cooking options.
As you can see from all of the comments, you can do amazing things with this oven.
Just like cooking in a Dutch oven over open fire coals, these things take practice.

I have one. FWIW... I bought a set of toaster oven accessories for mine. And, I found a toaster oven pizza stone that fit. As to the thermometer, it may be off considerably. After you use it for awhile, you'll get the feel for it and automatically make allowances for what the gauge tells you. On another note, there are a number of YT videos and other resources for this little oven. It can be insulated to help retain the heat. It can be used over a rocket stove (I have the Silverfire Survivor). There are how-to videos on that. It can be used on a cast iron box stove. And more ....
It is a good item for off-grid, emergency usage, camping and backyard fun, just as you demonstrated. Thank you for sharing!

Good review, thanks for posting! I'm thinking of buying one because I'd like to bake my own bread and biscuits when camping.

Ihave seen a flameproof insulating wrap being used on these ovens that maks it get warm quicker and bake better. Noidea where people are getting them or what they cost. But I too will stick with my cast iron

I have a cast iron collection, too. Even a few pieces of my beloved Griswold. I also have the Colman Camp Oven. Each serves its purpose. I can bake bread or a cake using the oven on one of my Colman stoves, when I can't build a fire outdoor for any one of several reasons.
Can be ordered on line. They are more expensive now than when I bought mine.

I’m so glad it baked something for you! Thanks for the review! Makes me excited to try mine. Maybe the thermometer is just not very accurate? At least it baked! Yay 👏

Yeah at least I know not to pay attention to the thermometer. Some more testing needs to be done on that, but it worked!

We have bought several of these, and had the same problem, not getting up to temp but another problem is they rust. We always cleaned them and put them back in the original box but they still rusted on us. We were in a high humidity area so maybe that had something to do with it, I don't know.

I have one. It is worth it. The more options you have, in any situation, the better off you will be. You can use this for bread to go with the stew in your DO.

I was checking on that Coleman oven, and, you make that video hihihi Well, i will probably get one in the winter when the price goes down a little bit. Here in Montreal by Amazon it 64$ Can. I will check on Canadian Tire too, they sell a lot of Coleman stuff and they reduce price regularly. Thanks for that review. And you have a beautiful family 😼

Just an FYI the thermometer on the Coleman oven is not accurate, if you purchase an oven thermometer separately that’s commercial grade you will see how off the Coleman oven factory thermometer is. There’s RUclips videos showing others that have placed a commercial thermometer inside the oven and get perfect results baking. Just saying. Have fun camping ⛺️ people. Love 💕 and light to all 💕 .

  • @totoroben

More of a glamping accessory, but the camp chef camp stove and oven is more capable and gets up to temp and holds temp more effectively. You can use the inside of the oven for storage of pots and pans when moving it.

  • @rogerclark9285
    @rogerclark9285 7 месяцев назад

Use an oven thermometer to check your temperature. The thermometers in the door are notoriously inaccurate. Mine reds around 250 when the oven is at 350.
