    When Dr Amen talked about white sugar, white salt, white flour, cocaine which is white and barbie. It made me wonder why whiteness is so desired when its literally killing us physically and mentally.

      So why is white an important color in African culture? White is the colour of purity. It represents cleansing and is often worn for festive occasions. It has an innocence to it that is representative of its pureness.
      Sea salt is naturally white so is that bad for humans? Humans have been harvesting sea salt for thousands of years for our very own survival??

      Whiteness was imposed on the world, not just us to justify economic exploitation in the forms of indentured servitude(whites were used this way too but in the U.S. and other european colonies blacks were allowed to be indentured for life morphing into generational chattel slavery), slavery, colonialism, capitalism! Race is a created construct to justify the aforementioned forms of oppression for economic profits!

    Wow, Dr. Amen & Dr. Carr raised a memory I hadn't thought about in a while...my father & my uncles used to roast a goat and a pig all night in a pit in the ground for the 4th of July family celebration. They would sit out there through the night, spinning tales, sipping and laughing, enjoying each other. As Dr. Carr pointed out, some of the foods would be prepared in advance, much of it coming from my father's huge garden and other relatives or neighbors gardens. Homemade ice cream, cakes & pies...such a wonderful time! I didn't know the origin piece about cooking food in the ground to hide the smoke & avoid detection from "the ones who cannot leave us alone". Thanks so much. Yall are everything!
    BTW, none of them ever talked about that holiday in terms of independence.

    CONVERGENCE!! I grew up listening to KPFK in Los angeles! My father had a short program on that station many years ago. And today I am a sustaining supporting member of the station in his name. I was introduced to Margaret Prescod when I first started working, and the other day I saw Karen interviewing her daughter. It was on KPFK where I first heard the voice of Dr Gerald Horne. And because of many things in my life including the power of community supported radio, I find myself a member of Knarrative and Knubia. And I hear my father's voice whenever Dr Carr speaks. Since the pandemic made us all sit down, I have been able to attend church around the world, and Reverend Barber, Bishop Flunder and Reverend Freddie Haynes are my ministers. And then I went to graduate school and my thesis was on African-American heroines in science fiction. I followed Octavia Butler around. And did I mention I was born and raised in Pasadena? I probably had seen her on the bus or walking on the street, not knowing who she was until I started reading her. And here we are, coming together to acknowledge and study the words of this incredible soothsayer. Such convergence. Ase

    I wish there were a ICWC in Spanish so I could share this with my friends, I'm from central America Panama, and there's so much ignorance over there about our culture. That's intentional! It's like that all over even in some places in the U.S.! Look at the classifying of historical facts and banning of books all being labeled Critical Race Theory! The status quo wants to keep people ignorant! Easier to blame others and cause separation by those in power when they control information and the truth!

    Love this episode with beauty of three beautiful Black faces with so much knowledge giving the clean glass of water. My city Buffalo has had the 2nd largest Juneteenth festival for years, and after this tragedy with white nationalist domestic terrorism it was beautiful to see us together again. My children were in pure bliss to see so many Black folks together all at once with us all on one accord. That tragedy in May hasn’t broken us, it made us stronger; and we showed that last weekend as a people and as a community. Thank you again for blessing us with the knowledge and giving us something to look forward to EVERY Saturday ✊🏿❤️🖤💚.

    Pharrell normally has the SITW concert here in VB but refused to after his cousin was murdered by an officer on the oceanfront blvd. The city begged and pleaded then bashed him for refusing and taking it to DC. He simply called for a thorough and just investigation and felt they had not met his request.

    • @stanleycarter303
      @stanleycarter303 2 года назад +1

      I recall his cousin being killed by police. From what I recall he actually stopped a conflict! Police probably targeted him because he was a large black man and therefore a threat!

    • @craZbeauTful
      @craZbeauTful 2 года назад

      @@stanleycarter303 exactly. It was all unjust and the city didn't take it seriously so Pharrell took his event elsewhere. We don't blame him. The 757 is a political mess. It's a huge hit to our economy but realistically the way they treat us here we wouldn't have benefited. There are rumors that he stopped another local project that could have impact on us economically but I'm not sure, revamping military circle. Yesterday, for Juneteenth police were everywhere on the oceanfront after 10 PM but on the scanners complaining about not having enough units. I'm sure there were 3 officers for every 10 people and maybe 200 people out there. It was a waste of resources. They just don't stop..

    Giving you symbols and toys 🧸 to focus on but certainly not anything you can do anything with such as economic justice/ reparations and the respect you are due.

    Interesting conversation. Please note the cooking of food - vegetables and animal flesh- goes back thousands of years in Pacific Asia and South Asia. Special stones that are heat tolerant are heated. Food with coconut cream and herbs wrapped in various green leaves then covered with soil is still commonally done for festivals and family gatherings. Called umu, mumu, pit pit and other names across the Pacific.

      Agreed, there is nothing uniquely African about pit cooking or spit cooking. Both method have been used universally for thousands of years.

      Hi! Thank you for adding this. You are correct we share the technique. We were mentioning the need to hide the preparation of foods to not be re-captured. And the etymology of the word Barbecue came from the Arawak/Carib people’s language. Appreciate and love you for being in community. 🖤
