@@allseasonfishing4030 I’m surprised they aren’t over there yet , I also think they are not as prevalent though this year as they were last year, at least by me
great content! I carry cheap plastic fish lip grip ($15 or so) and it keeps blues/bass controlled. I do not trust grasping blues with hand (bare!) esp behind head. you can make it calm by grasping tail and hanging it upside down but it doesn't help to get hooks out. I also always keep my left hand with full glove, right hand with open finger glove. this way you can do everything and grab fish (esp slimy tog) with less chance to get self hooked. single hooks, crushed barbs to try to make them survive...keep it coming!
I love fighting those gator blues. I would be interested to see you do a catch and cook with that smoked recipe. I didn't keep any on my last trip but would have it I had a good recipe.
They are a blast, I see now what you were saying that day you got into them really good in that bay. I'll for sure do a catch and cook with the recipe, I'm just not sure its as good as I hear so doing it first myself to see, lol. I'm also very much a newb at this point smoking fish
Man, Peter, I've never seen anyone man handle a gator blue like that. Last time I grabbed a blue was with my net and he happily chopped through the mesh for my troubles. Greetings from Gio, Western Long Island Sound.
ha, yea that one was a bit bigger than I typical would like to grab it behind the shoulders, lol but if you grip them firm there it is a pretty good place to get a hold of them. those teeth and bite strength really are no joke though, have to be very careful
A long time ago, I caught a couple blues from shore, using chunks of menhaden for bait. My uncle and grandpa (who has long since passed away), were there too.
Nice video bro! Where did you get your American flag 🇺🇸. I want one like yours. I just took my predator xl today ( new to me) in really great shape. That blue 😂😂😂 jaws!
Haha they are like a baby blue 🦈 - that flag I actually got at dollar tree, but I recently put pvc cement around the edges because it started fraying already lol - but is a nice flag
@@PeterRanieriII right on! That’s a good idea! I gotta get one by the next time I go out! I’m gonna see if I can find some of those monster blues here on the East coast soon !
Good one Pete. Hey.... No Boga Grip??? Best buck fifty I ever spent. Mine is 20 years old and looks like the day I bought it. I had knock offs. All were weak. Worst money I ever spent.
Thanks, yeah for sure bogas are helpful with big blue fish and really big stripers. I just don't come across big blues like this in my area that often so I never really had a use for them.
Tail grab em, move your legs and plop them with with their mouth facing the bow of the kayak. It’s the easiest way to handle them. Also they love flats you can catch them shallower then 5
@@PeterRanieriII I just hanging my feet over the sides of the kayak. No teeth and hooks are always facing away from you. Pliers to dehook and gone. That’s how I do it. I’m not into using a lip gripper on them I feel like I’m gonna take a hook to the hand
@@Rustyfishing I think you have a great method, I will try it next time - I also dont like lip grippers, they just seem awkward and like you said it can thrash while your trying to snap them on
Thanks man! haha what a great age old question. I guess without a doubt the hardest fighting fish I personally ever caught was a 245lb. bluefin tuna. But pound for pound, its a tougher question...I would still rank tunas in the top along with amberjacks. Bluefish are up there but the jack family in general is probably a little tougher.
Hey Gio, I think I let about 20yds or so out behind me, I do like a decent amount of line out just to get a lower angle on the line, and trolling probably around 3mph, the lure was probably only 2-3ft below the surface, 3/4oz. is not very heavy at that speed
I did some testing with it and made a video a while back if you want to check it out: ruclips.net/video/FovKYNA7HkY/видео.html But I think in summary I typically go about 2mph on low power without pedaling and then 3mph on high without peddling. against current will knock off about a 3/4mph on each of those and going with current maybe you go 1/2mph faster than those. Its an 80AH battery I have connected to it so on high I can run it about 4 hours
@@anthonyroccojr4049 yeah! I mean you can go cheap and have to do a bit more finagling or go expensive (like bixpy) and it’ll be a little bit more straightforward.
If you paddled that thing all the way to the sound side VS walking or driving it across the street idk if u know the area or not but u could’ve saved urself a ton of time and energy also I can see my house and appreciate the area not specifically getting mentioned
Haha cool to hear from a local! I live walking distance to the bridge so my launch point is actually west of the bridge. I’ve actually peddled all the way out to the sound from my house on an outgoing tide but it still takes a while. Walking across there is obviously much quicker if my primary goal is to fish the sound
@@mommysmilkers9518 I’ve seen diggers out there as I drive by everyday for work…just don’t have the time for that these days but it does look like fun, I just buy them from the town seafood shop lol, this bay actually still has baymen
nice ones bro . porgys my favorite

haha thanks they are fun, and the end game is always exciting as well, lol!

Yoooo! the weakies left the bay I think, at least the larger body of them. Are you catching these big blues too?

Sea robins taste better than porgy and actually IMO fluke. Just need to have a bunch because there’s not much meat
