- This morning was absolutely stunning! I never get over the beauty of the calm Long Island Sound in the pre-dawn hours. For the fishing, it was a great morning of quality over quantity but I really couldn't find too much life out deep in the boulders so I moved back to the sandy shallow ledge and found a solid school of fluke (summer flounder). The porgies were mixed in of course as well. Great times out on the kayak!

What would really be helpful if somebody put out a "bait chart" of what to look for and when. From other fisherman I've heard that fluke followed the squid into the bays during the early months. Well did we have that or not? I'm guessing no since that isn't what they were spitting up when I caught them. I've seen them spit up shrimp yet why don't the bait shops sell it as bait? The sand eel "hatch" or spawn or whatever dance they are doing just happened in the sound and clearly video's were showing a very good bite during that time. We just had a really good first half of striper fishing in the bays due to a strong bay minnow presence (I'm guessing that is what they were). The rip at Orient was quite busy for stripers this year. Porgy's do their spawn and they disperse to where I'm guessing the clam beds/oyster beds are. The bigger Sea bass seem to prefer the Sound over the bays since all I catch are midgets. I'm just starting to see a crab hatch in some areas so I'm guessing that will be the new bait of choice (I'm assuming these are fiddlers). While at Plum guy there were a lot of 3-4 inch fish jumping out of the water. Again not sure what they were. Haven't seen bunker yet. Sorry for the long post
Peter thank you so much for doing all these videos. I look forward to each new post. You are a true professional and a fisherman's therapist. I find your segments informative, entertaining, and therapeutic. To me, you're the the Bob Ross of fishing. Respectfully- Murph
Peter an amazing video. It looks like you had the entire sound to yourself with not a ripple of water and not a single boat. I fish up and down the sound and I can’t get a day like yours to save my life. Greetings from Gio Western Long Island Sound.
I was out that same morning. Water like glass, it was beautiful. Found myself in a cinderworm hatch in our area and that basically derailed my sea bass plans for that morning since current started moving quickly by the time I got to deep water. Outside of that, most of my success came on 5in gulp also, particularly salmon red. Sea bass has been tough so far, but seeing water temps hold in the low 70s should hopefully improve it in deeper waters soon 🤞
I was fishing the same morning, that sunrise was incredible. The double fluke jump had me laughing, replayed that few times. Nice job Peter, underwater was awesome too. Fluke were all schooled up, that was cool to watch
Nice video as always. I like the way you try to reply to just about all comments. I really hope your channel blows up to where that's not possible. I love calm days like that one, unfortunately that usually means getting annihilated by bugs.
Why do you keep messing with your drag. I have always learned that it should be set when you start fishing and it is finished.
Where about on the north shore?
That fluke jump was amazing Pete.. that tide was absolutely amazing great fishing videos keep them coming
Beautiful morning, and nice quality fish. And you may already know but we can’t measure those sea bass from the long center tail.
Is that the chesty for the GoPro? If not, can you provide a link for what you’re using? Curious as to how you are you able to get the camera so high up on your chest? Thanks Peter!
Nice day Peter.
Nice action Peter

Very informative video! Good job! 🔥
Another Great Video! I really appreciate the underwater camera work! You've inspired me to get back fishing on the Sound - now with a sit-on-top kayak (years ago I fished from a small motorboat). Question: do you think fishing is better on a pre/early weekend compared to late/post weekend given fishing pressure - even if modest?
2nd comment...
I bet some fresh strips of nice freshly caught porgy would get them Seabass fired up
Nice! It was really nice on the north shore. Not so much on the south
Pete had a nice fluke bite yesterday at MPB…Crazy part of the day…came across a large pod of DOLPHINS 🐬
