  • Willkommen to the Bavarian village of Leavenworth, Washington which is known for its Holiday Lights festivities throughout November and December. The town was transformed from a pioneer town to a traditional Bavarian village in the 1960s, complete with a maypole, Lebkuchen cookies, pretzels, and imported German beer. The town attracts millions of tourists per year. Its spirited atmosphere is a must-see, and the German food is the best we've had outside of Germany.

    • @RunTheAtlas
      @RunTheAtlas  3 года назад +2

      There's plenty of outdoor seating at the restaurants! The festival of Lights which is normally on Saturday and Sunday is cancelled, but of course you can see the lights in all their glory as shown in this video. The hiking trails are really easy to maintain a social distance! Def worth a visit!

    Did it seem like they were limiting the number of people in the stores, due to recent COVID restrictions?

    • @RunTheAtlas
      @RunTheAtlas  3 года назад +2

      Yes some stores made us wait outside for a bit because they were at capacity. The restaurants pretty much all have outdoor seating. I recommend the Icicle Brewery which has a cool outdoor spot with firepits, I show it at the end. It's a really cozy vibe here even through covid.

    If you are from Bavaria prepare to be very disappointed. I am sure there are one or two decent places, but I couldn't even find spaetzle anywhere, and most of the stores had little if anything that was German. I literally saw three or four things total that you would find in a German town or were anything Bavarian in the slightest; some overpriced touristy steins, ONE place had some coocoo clocks, and I think I saw a German flag tote bag somewhere. Not postcards, not chocolate, even the butcher was not comparable, much less a bakery.
    For comparison, both Poulsbo and even Ballard have more authentic Norwegian stores and grub than this place. Like I said, very disappointing, and I am sure there is a hidden gem or two and yes the town looks pretty, but I really wanted a taste of home and this did not offer it.
    They even mispronounced my name.
