      Yeah I hate that they do that though. Like yes some people are going to cheese the game. But they should be able to! I mean if it’s incredibly broken then yeah maybe tweak it a bit, but let people have their fun! Let people play the game the way they want to. That’s what the game should be about. Options. Let us decide how to play.

      Navezgane had a boathouse in between two islands. I found in A19 even during horde night, as long as I didn't draw attention to myself, the zombies left it alone. I also didn't leave until the zombies cleared out (they were on the bottom, just standing around). I found the same in A20. This boathouse also had a quirk where using the interior ladders caused one to go to the bottom. Good for fixing things. Another quirk. Adjusting graphic settings makes it easier to see the bottom.

    I remember hearing that the zombies only have a pathing limit of like 40 blocks and anything after that they go into destroy everything mode. So the pier was too far from the shore where the zombies were spawning for them to get a path to you. You could have make a cheeky single lane path from the shore to the pier for them to run on, or make the guardhouse a little closer to the shore 👍

    • @kathrynck
      @kathrynck 2 года назад

      I've seen similar reporting. Although I think it may be more radius specific rather than path-block count. I could be wrong about that though. Like there may be a limit to how many chunks they'll look at.

    Nice base. Jonah Birch built this exact concept on his Twitch stream along with one of the best Castle bases I have ever seen in 7 days. He also built a purpose fit zombie spawning tower nearby, so he could still fight the horde at the castle out in the lake. He had dirt blocks on top,of his tower spawn area so they spawned where he wanted them to, and then they followed the prebuilt, path perfectly. Nice work mate 👍🍺🦘

    Watched all of your videos that show water(success or not, or partially). But thank you for evolving my base. Was using the trader as my invincible area to eat cop's and demo blow up.
    You are showing me the mechanics to use water for a better outcome while still getting 2 to 3 levels per horde night. By your tests, less than 40 blocks-ish should be used for zombie pathing.
    I asked a question a few weeks ago about solving zombies blowing up and he solved it. Thank you my man.
    This won't be my base, as I want that juicy experience every horde night. But JaWoodle, you gave me the tools to both enjoy that horde experience and avoid the consequences. I would never have though of all this on my own. But you did help me break the game how I want to:)

    I'm 2:00 in and I can tell you the magic number you need is 50 blocks, for blood moon zombies. Wandering hordes and screamers spawn farther out. I've actually built this base in my DF game with my friend. It's a bit over a week (on 1 hour days) to build it with frames.
    Edit: 27:00 Max pathing range is about 30 blocks. In alpha 18 I built a spiral stair case that went up 180 blocks before dropping them with wedge tips. I haven't tested that in alpha 19, but I have noticed some instances where they don't dig in alpha 19. I suspect to improve performance, they added a pathing range limit on the Z axis also. I know this is alpha 20, but might be worth a test.

    Niiice! Another game breaking horde base this is great! You should experiment with the diagonal security grate. It has full HP, can be shot through, connects on the diagonal and when you make zig zag stairs completely flummoxes the Jeffries. They see them as pathable but almost every time they jump they fall off. Have a run of 4 consecutive risers and they simply never reach the top. Basically they go a bit nuts and all gather around the stairs beautifully for some mollie goodness.

      A19 horde night they were at the bottom but didn't bother anything as long as one didn't draw any heat during horde night. Also waited a little for them to clear out after the night was over. With that said the occasional vulture would show up, and when I removed the land claim block one time, a zombie showed up on the pier.

  • @AxleLotl

    Great video! Cheers for the tips!
    I believe the zombies only have a certain amount of blocks they can calculate to get to you, because of where they've spawned and how long that bridge is. It may be outside their parameters of what is a viable option, so destroying the area is their next magic trick. 🤷‍♂️

    On land, covering the ground with a floor of plates about 60x60 would work too then ?
    Made of wood wouldn't make it all that expensive ... just a bit clearing work to do I guess

    8:40 Thank you for pointing out ladder physics have higher pirority than water physics! I did some testing and found out if you build a track of ladder pieces sideways - and move along them - suddenly you're moving along underwater at ladder sprint speeds.
    There seem to be limits (ladders UNDER you don't count for this? Only ones to either side of you?) But this is a neat trick if you'd rather unload your bike, stuff your bike into your pockets, and swim across your (completely submerged) ladder pathway to your base.

    Cool trick mate, ladders help you get back up if you accidentally fall in so might just leave them there, its not like you are going to have horde zombies pathing up ladders anyways

      You DO know you can press W while underwater to move 'in the direction you are facing' ie Up if you are looking up, and swim down using W while looking down. Plus holding Shift to deplete stamina faster/swim faster

    I worry about them fixing the water physics. Because when they do, you should be worried about what they're going to do to the zombies.

    I didn't test it but did notice the fastest way to the bottom was ride the vehicle the jeep sinks like lead bricks I would guess the bikes may as well. just ride off the end and build up blocks and ladders I think it would speed up the build right?

    So there's a prebuilt structure next to trader Hugh in Navezgane on the lake that's basically this, but without the bridge. It's a great living space and probably could be made into this style of horde base real quick.

      Getting use to swimming. Zombies would occasionally ambush one swimming to the bank. Also be careful taking apart prebuilds, so they don't collapse on you.

    i wonder if it would work if you built a base on land the same distance high up instead of on a lake?

  • @EricHabib
    @EricHabib 2 года назад +1

    You can get more distance for support by adding supports a bit further down - like if you add |___||___| if the || is the main pylon and the others are kinda struts
    It's a bit silly, but as long as you keep them separate it significantly reduces how many support pylons you need

    • @EricHabib
      @EricHabib 2 года назад

      I also wonder if the AI still tries to reach your height first through water, like if you put a separate pillar next to your main path that's just like an island but add a ladder or ramp from the water, will they climb onto it to try to get to you rather than wrecking your pillars? Or maybe just add a little ladder form the side of your bridge?

  • @kerrypratt6077
    @kerrypratt6077 2 года назад

    Build a ramp underwater for the zombies to path up to your gatehouse from the sides. If they can get out of the water then that should fix the pathing problems.

    Would it then be possible to control the spawns during a horde base? For example place a 3x3 platform in the middle of the water. Technically they should only spawn there if you are in proper distance.

    • @timostipow3751
      @timostipow3751 2 года назад +1

      Part of the reason that this kind of base works is because zombies can't spawn on player placed blocks. So building a platform for the zombies won't work as they won't spawn on it.

  • @Naamis1

    Zombies have a limited distance they can check for valid paths to you, if they can't find a path within that range they just take the shortest path directly towards you. So those ones spawning on the bank diagonal to the tower probably can't get a lock on along the bank and the bridge to the tower within their limited path searching range, so they instead opt to just dive on in and head straight for your position.

  • @CrimsonAngel91

    This is awesome and I've started doing something like this today on xbox and it's alpha 18 as I was building I noticed two zombies walking around under water like Usain bolt trying to get me so if this works I hope they don't destroy it from below, devs will obviously making them swim now like bit this isnt exploiting the game though, if this was real you would find a place where zombies have one 1 or no access to your base.
