    Hi zule I looked this up and English translation mean butterfly plant and is a herbaceous plant used as a herb is this right or have I got it all wrong . STAY safe all best Bill and Val

    • @ltlbnsgarden
      @ltlbnsgarden  4 года назад

      Bill & Val's Allotment's yes you are absolutely correct! It is an ancient Mexican herb. The name papalo comes from the Nahuatl word, meaning butterfly, I think it was named butterfly because butterflies are attracted to the flowers . Great job friend! 😊

    I grew Papalo and its cousin Pipicha from seeds that I bought, for three years in a row, with decent results for my climate. Then, my own plants produced seeds and I planted those with zero germination. I could not tell the difference between my seeds that didn't grow at all, and the good seeds that I bought and had good results with. I only planted the black seeds each time, and I treated them all the same.

    Do you grow the mexican or the bolivian papalo??? John from "grow your greens" in Vegas, says the bolivian papalo is more tolerant of the dry, arid heat, here in the mohave desert. He tryed both in his garden in Vegas and had much better luck with the bolivian vs the mexican.

    Was so looking forward to this video, thank you! I love Papalo but always have a hard time germinating them. I've filled my bucket with papalo seeds just as you have. The only thing I didn't do is add any mulch on top. I was amazed to see how many germinated, I only got one so far 😩 but I'll take it!! I will keep trying till I'm out of seeds. Hopefully I'll get more to germinate. I'm thinking it's not warm enough yet here in Georgia where I live. Will you be transplanting the seeds or just thinning them out and leaving them to grow in the bucket? I'm so glad you're doing Papalo video's, there just isn't much about them on RUclips.
    Thank you, and have yourself a great day!! 🌞

    • @ltlbnsgarden
      @ltlbnsgarden  4 года назад +1

      DonnaZ thank you so much for your lovely comments! I don’t thin them out and they don’t really like to be transplanted. They don’t mind being crowded. I also find that the heat kills some of the seedlings, so I just let them be. Papalos like temperatures 75F and above. If it is a lower temperature they may germination but they are so picky about their temperature. I would say if you have the temperature, then just add more seeds to the bucket that one germinated , they are low germination. Hope that helps and if you have any other questions you can email me or come back to this video to ask. Stay safe 😊

    Hi, does it need that much soil, could I use less?

    • @ltlbnsgarden
      @ltlbnsgarden  3 года назад +1

      Hi ! Great question. The answer is yes you can use less, the papalo does not have a deep root. The lowest I would do, would be a 9 inches deep. The 5 gallon buckets are about 15 inches tall, but they do not need that much soil as long as they get plenty of sun and some nitrogen fertilizer. Hope this helps 😊
