I just wanted to say, that you are not only a great photographer, but you are also a very intelligent and well spoken human being. And that's a rarity. Thanks for those videos.
Not only a great photographer, but so generous as well. So many good photographers on the internet who won’t show others the details of how they achieve their final images. Have been following you for a while. I will download your book, and know it will help me, but the final part of the puzzle will always be, for all of us, our innate level of creativity. Kudos, Adrian.
Thank you SO much, Larry! I do hope the book helped you and you learned something from it, but as you said, it all comes down to what we do with the power and knowledge we have. I hope photography gives you the joy it gives me and that you can create what you envision in the field! Thanks again.
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts, knowledge, and wisdom! It's quite rare to find people on RUclips who talk about photography and can actually take great images. I'm looking forward to watching your next videos. Keep it up, and thanks!
Yes, I think that letting the viewer do some of the work interpreting the image is really important. Glad you liked the video, thank you for watching it!
Thanks for sharing! Seeing the creative process is so much more informative than the usual gear-oriented programming coming from most photography channels on YT. I value your content in much the same way that I look forward to each Sean Tucker video when its released.
Thank you, Adrian, for this helpful video and all your other videos, too. You have a great talent for organizing and presenting your videos. Your style is unique and your creative voice is clear and distinct. I know you work hard to make your videos; you deserve hundreds of thousands of followers.
I love your channel Adrian. It's great how you can make the most miserable looking weather look so beautiful and moving.. Have just purchased your e-book so thank you for the inspiration.
Absolutely love your photography, and you've been a great channel to watch as I've been taking my photography more serious this past year. Will be purchasing your e-book and look forward to digging deep into each of those 100 pages. Cheers Adrian!
Great video! Thank you Adrian. For me personally pinhole camera and black and white film is the dream setup for photography, it is so simple, so I have more time to engage with my surroundings.
From Spain. Me encantan.
Thank you for this. I find that your photography is a great source of inspiration, and this video came out at just the right time. I'm in great need of inspiration. Keep it up Adrian!
Thank you Adrian for this very inspiring and motivational video. I’ve been following your channel for a while now and always enjoy your content and work a lot as I’m a massive fan of black and white photography. I’ve just purchased the ebook and wish you great success with it. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for this video Adrian. You were the one who taught me to take a new level in bnw photography and since then I feel it is the way to go. Abrazos amigo!
As you know Adrian, I have been following you for some time and have been greatly inspired by your advise and images. This is by far your most inspirational video to date. I don't use LR for editing my raw files, I use open source darktable. However, I immediately purchased your eBook as I can easily adapt to darktable which also has great drawn and parametric masks. I am currently staying in the beautiful English Lake District and am itching to get out with my camera. Once again, thank you.
Hi Adrian, i liked the tips and advice you give, it makes a difference in my photography. I shoot Black and White occasionally, i do enjoy it but i find the editing a bit of a challenge. I will keep practising on my Black and White editing skills. Thanks for your positive videos 😊.
Excellent video … thanks very much! My Fuji X100V has an ND filter that gets used regularly. B&W landscape is my principal interest. I’m also using the Nisi Pro filter kit and a lightweight carbon travel tripod. This camera often accompanies me on road bicycle adventures with the PS Bagworks camera strap and a JJC neoprene camera case. 📷🚴♂️🌞
Bravisimo. Your comparison with writing struck a chord with me, not only because I love writing in all its styles (I sometimes do technical writing for work, taught academic writing and sometimes creative writing, but also because for me, the post process is about conversations with my files, with the images I made. It is all about language. I so agree with your assertion that pre-visualization is key (I think of it as seeing the way my camera sees), but I cannot pre-visualize, especially not after my concussion 5 years ago. (I have never had much of a visual imagination; I follow my feelings based on what I know about art principals and what appeals to me.) But even without my internal visualization, I still have some idea of how my camera sees, depending on what lens I am using and, during post, depending on what the files tell me they want--or don't want. I eventually find myself looking at a finished photo that speaks to me, and if the conversation went well, to others. Great video, as always.
Adrian, I've been watching your videos and the food in them is awesome. You need to do a food channel. Minimalist, whole grain, plant based. low fat, low sodium - exactly what I need to lose weight and stay (get) healthy. 🙂
I love that translation of Beowulf by Heaney. Very rich and readable. To push you metaphor a bit further, like Heaney, your work as an editor is that of being a translator. You try to remain faithful to the original text of what was there at the time of image capture, while allowing for your own interpretation. Another photographer (translator) could have started with the same image (original text) and wound up with something that likely would have been quite different. There are lots of versions of Beowulf.
Absolutely! Even the same photographer can start with the same image and end up with very different results depending on when they work on it. I'm editing some of my older images in different ways than I did in the past, just because I've changed. Same could be said for translations, I'm sure.
Great video Adrian. Just downloaded the e-book which at a quick glance looks great as well! I use ON1 Photo Raw for all my BW work but the tools are all mostly the same. Cheers.
I have and shoot digital, I have two Sigma SD-14's, I also have a Sigma SA-9 which amounts to a film version of the SD, but it's limited to 35mm format. My favorite camera is my Mamiya RB67 Pro SD with 6x8 film backs and my favorite lens is the wide angle Mamiya K/L 65mm f/4.0. For B&W, my films of choice are Ilford HP5 Plus and Rollei Infrared 400
Gracias, Rosa!
Thanks! That is a beautiful camera, I prefer to have the color on the RAW files to play with them in post, but the Leica should produce amazing images.
You explain your approach to photography very well and illustrate it with some wonderful images. Both informative and inspiring. I wonder whether you have any 'red lines' in post-processing, or does anything go?
I found a similar motive with a stream leading towards a mountain top from Einunna River by Klemetbrua Bridge from Einunndalen Valley in Norway recently. I made one good image with a fast shutter speed, but the one with a long shutter speed has a too long shutter speed. I'll go back there in October. Can really recommend Einunndalen Valley and the Eastern part of the Rondane Mountains, from where our national painting "Vinternatt in Rondane" is from. I ordered 5 nights in a cabin at Rondetunet for October. Hope to walk some valleys and if the weather is good to enter some peaks as well:-) I recommend you to go the axis from Eastern Rondane by Einunndalen Valley, then to Ottadalen Valley to Sognefjorden Fjord. We move to France, but my goal is to photograph down this axis before the invasion of wind turbine plants. Nice if you could help me, as the only way to save these landscapes for the future now is through photography!
@@aows That's so good! I really think you should start at Rondetunet Holiday Centre and work your way to Ytre Sula in Sognefjorden Fjord. Be sure to make a sidetrip to the Tverrådalskyrkja Mountain and the Geiranger Fjord. I read up on the area around Rondetunet now, a fantastic area, with the largest canyon of Gudbrandsdalen by Dørafallet. On the other side of Rondane make sure to visit Vesleulfossen Waterfall. From the summer Utladalen Valley with Vettisfossen Waterfalls was awesome. But nothing beats Skjolden! I will make a last effort to stop wind power and to make the governments build a real urban village for me and my girls there in the famous Dragoon Style or Dragestil, the only true Norwegian architectural style, which most architects despise. I'll try to meet you at Rondetunet to give you a briefing about the area!
Nice video, very thoughtful! I noticed that you have stacked your Kase filters together. On one end I see the regular Kase protection cap, but what have you put on the other end? Thanks and best regards from Sweden!
I use the new version of Lightroom, and have for 6 years now, almost since day 1. I like the interface more than Classic, and that is cloud based. I too use my iPhone and iPad, not necessarily to do heavy editing but to export and selecting my best photos. But both apps should have pretty much the exact same features.
Indeed, as far as I know most post-processing software does the same things. There might be some differences when it comes to AI features, but that's about it.
There's a course eon linked in learning called something like how to print in black and white. It focuses on not just the printer that's the small aspect of it but how to edit the photos to get the best tonality possible in Ur images. Once you can get the best with the numbers I think then you can move onto this creativity based approach.
I prefer to see the scene in black and white on the screen and viewfinder, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with having the preview in color and converting to monochrome in post. Everyone is different so use the approach that works best for you :)
I just wanted to say, that you are not only a great photographer, but you are also a very intelligent and well spoken human being. And that's a rarity. Thanks for those videos.
