I actually think that not associating the series directly with BTS might have been a conscious decision to attract a new audience that might be into K-dramas but not BTS or even K-pop in general. I think HYBE is experimenting with different platforms to see where they can expand organically. I wonder if they will eventually create their own streaming platform. Seems like they are experimenting with a variety of things like gaming, etc. as well...

I thought the series was going to stream on Netflix or Prime. Not familiar with Xclusive and because of the extra cost and adding my personal information on yet another platform and since I won't actually be watching the members themselves, I have no desire to get it. I'll rely on you and the subscribers comments to stay in the loop. With that being said I will ofcourse continue to listen to and purchase their music and support them in their individual projects.
Author, you are a wealth of information, thank you for keeping us informed and continued success to, Bighit/BTS and the growth of Hybe. Also, this fabulous channel. Blessings! 😘

I was listening to some of the younger brother groups of BTS today... still there is no comparison to me. BTS deals with issues and creates converstions from thier writing. Maybe I missed it but from what I have seen the yonger groups deal with what all other singers do... just love, seduction, sex and so. I like songs that make me think and relfect on what I am experiencing... like reading a good book. Now, this doesn't mean I don't like songs that are fun like Apnanman and Boys with Fun... everyone needs a to experience a good times too but they still speak to me. I really love BTS and the stories they tell from experience which I find lacking in other korean groups. I need to check out the older kpop musicians who also tell stories in their music.

I would love to watch Begins Youth. However, It looks like it will cost me about $150 NZD to watch the whole series. And I simply cannot justify that sort of spend. Not when I already subscribe to both Disney+ and Amazon Prime (because of BTS content). So unfortunately I will miss out.
That is why watching videos about the series are so important to me (and sad, because it shows what I am missing out on).
Unfortunately, I am probably not the only one who will be missing out on it because of cost. I wonder how many more people would have watched it had it been on another platform? Ah well. It is what it is, I suppose.
I do hope the series is a success. And that maybe, one day, it will come to one of the other streaming platforms, that host BTS content.

I dip in and out of streaming platforms on a monthly basis depending on whether the series or sport I want to see is on them. So usually only have one going at a time, wait until the whole series is available and then binge watch it over the month. This works for me. I'm in Australia and yes it was about $160 for the Begins youth series - I bought it a day ago after watching the first reaction from this channel. It will be my first k-drama and yes I did feel it was quite expensive. Loving it so far, have been through the BU about 3 times now and finding this a great show. If you investigate you might find some way to watch for free as I have seen sites saying this - though they may be illegal?

    • @lizbailey7748

It is a platform but you actually buy the episodes (I got them in three blocks of 4 episodes each) and from what I understand in this video you can then onsell or rent them out to other people once the selling period from Xclusive is finished (don't know when that is). I haven't looked into how that works and am unlikely to sell them but it looks like they remain up on their platform rather than be downloaded to your own computer, but I could be wrong about that.

I hope the begins youth drama only has a limited contract with xclusive so that BH can show the series on other platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime. As for IP, it’s good that they can profit without physically doing the work (it was talked about on HYBE conference re: this topic, so I don’t know why people are surprised about this. They talked about BT21 and Tinytan).

I don't know if anyone else had this issue, but my streaming from xclusive has not been a pleasant experience. The subtitles are not as smooth as other korean content. It also is glitchy for me and doesn't play smoothly, even worse, after it glitches the audio track gets out of sync so I have to keep rewinding a bit until it matches up again. Frankly, it is so frustrating that after watching 3 episodes I haven't watched the rest even though I bought them. I have been waiting to get back into them hoping that it may improve. That said, the acting and production itself is fantastic!!! Show awesome! Platform clunky.

i understand the need of creating some kind of tool, content, merch, media, that doesn't require BTS's direct supervision or presence, but, tbh none of the listed is interesting enough without them, at least to me. Tiny Tan or BT21 is cute, but meh. The drama, honestly the whole BU is just frustrating, that it has no end. One of the main reasons i switched to kdramas is the fact that they end, and don't have s2, 3, 20 to them. Start a story, then end it.
I don't know, maybe just my genX mind, but if BTS is not in it, if their music is not in it, i'm not interested. Fashion, makeup, toys, dramas, i don't care. Music, yes, them, yes.
But, probably, i'm in minority, with my opinion. 🤷‍♀

The thing is, most ARMYs (including me) are pretty conservative: we do buy CDs, we're unhappy that Weverse QR codes replaced DVDs, we do go to movie theatres, and instead of registering on Xclusive, most people who watched BeginsYouth did so illegally. Also, it's a fact that after we protested NFTs, HYBE canceled their plans to introduce BTS NFTs. It's a fact that even GenZ Jungkook spoke out against A.I. and expressed feeling upset that it's going to be our future. HYBE should never force BTS and ARMYs to accept those things. The world is already depressing enough and the climate change will surely destroy our planet, so let us cling to the beautiful past and find comfort in it.

    • @dagmarbubolz7999
      @dagmarbubolz7999 3 месяца назад +1

I'm conservative because I don't trust it. It's all advertized as much better and convenient, until something goes wrong and you are fuc**, e.g. you can't get to your money because a stupid algorithm blocked your access as it deemed some action you did with your OWN bank account as suspicious. I hate stuff like that. It always comes when you need it the least. And then you, the owner, have to fight to get it back. I don't have time or energy for that. When I can't hold it, it's basically not mine, it's just an illusion, that could end abruptly. When servers crash (and I believe they will with a heating planet, as they already require a lot of cooling, and it will get way worse) I'll still play my CDs or Mp player. I have seen too much successful stuff go down, one day it's gone and your access goes with it, nothing was ever your property. And if you look at it financially, one pays SO much money for something you don't even own. Like lets say Weverse goes bunkrupt (big possibility as up to now they make minus with it), what will those QR Codes be worth?

They have not shared it or retweeted anything promoting the drama on twitter, Insta, Weverse, or youtube channel like a trailer ect They were happy to announce it at a press conference first in either 2018/2019 company Global press conference (I can't recall but it's been a few times) but not a word when it dropped. Personally I feel either they didn't agree with how the roll out was done as they sold the story or they knew fans wouldn't like the roll out so didn't promote it, maybe there is a deal that it's exclusive to Xclusive (whatever the platform is called) for a certain amount of time before release on other bigger platforms. But frankly something is off to me about it, they spoke up openly about it to the global press on live youtube press conference excited about it and then never uttered a word when it released.

Considering the fact that Begins Youth in no way advertises itself as BTS. I can imagine traditional streaming service might consider this too ambiguous? That'd be my only thought had it been turned away. Unlike the BU, their music isn't featured significantly. As a 1 year old Army I found the disconnect to be a little jarring.
I wonder why they didn't use the music even though it was featured in BU. The music wouldn't have tied the boys to any specific character based on the music alone. So to me it's a strange decision.
Their name is nor in the title. They didn't want to tie the members to the characters directly thus the name changes. Also the music wasn't featured. So Begins / Youth does not seem to be a BTS thing at all unless you knew of it already and that would be bringing the scope down massively since the bts name isn't leveraged. Not even Weverse. I do think Hybe was in the credits
Idk I feel like I missed something. I'm puzzled as to why they didn't leverage BTS for this and attract the major platforms. Anyone know?

If we see proof of it than we can be angry about it.

Ever heard about Madison Beer? What about Justin Bieber?
That is only a few of many entertainers.
I could name drop a lot of people but that would be an expression of a statistic not the individual.
      You are not a statistic:
Statistically you would not exist. You are an extreme. Think of your genetics alone and than your unque history. If that is a negative, a good or a neutral thing is on you.
How BTS is treated has nothing to do with what happened to Rain or anyone else.
It's a different label among other things.
And I was writing this not to forbid you having your own opinion. I was writing this so you can think about how you are an individual with your own circumstances and making up a problem you don't know exists is not good for your own mental health.
Like I said Idivided this into two different things because they are.
As far as we can tell HYBE/Big Hit Music is treating them well and they can do whatever they want within reason.
The book is very good. It may help you or maybe it will help you to understand someone else. IDK.
      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      Seems my reply vanished. Sorry.
We do not have any proof that they do not get paid the way they should be either.
Big Hit and HYBE are not SM. I have heard of misshaps but never that they treated their artists badly - except maybe the gaslighting of MHJ - but that is neither here nor there.
I never said you can not have an opinion. I'm saying that yours is hurting you as you make a problem that has a high chance of not existing. The book is very good at showing how our mind can trap us into being unhappy.
BTS is not Rain. BTS also makes still about 50% of HYBE's income. They would cease existing without the members.
The members all signed for a third time. They did not have to.
