THERE'S THREE WAYS TO ENTER THE ODYSSEY??!!?
I know right???
And when you jump on the globe it makes music ^^
FireB4litz I did that.
just like your girlfriend (im not sorry)
The Fifth Horseman Lmao slow
My favorite thing about Oyssey is how it taught the player things without textboxes. Of course they do it often times at the start of the game but they aren't obnoxious about it. Sadly I don't remember any examples because it has been too long but I recall realizing multiple times how this game lets you play around with mechanics that are needed later without having to straight up tell you what to do. This game is designed to be accessible to new players like children or simply those who've never played a Mario game before, while also appealing to Mario veterans that can simply ignore the tutorial and discover new mechanics or abilities on their own.
I definitely agree! My one complaint is Cappy telling you your moves as you travel to new locations in the Odyssey, but luckily once you beat the game he stops doing that. They definitely let the reigns go compared to other Mario titles tho
YOU CAN CAPTURE THE LIKE BUTTON

Note To Urist turns into it. "Well sh*t"
Now everyone smash that button
YOU CAN BE A GOOMBAS.
Odyssey has at least one use for every square inch of level real estate it puts out there.
Well, maybe not in Sand Kingdom though. Unless you count the atmosphere.
You don't know how much I have been waiting for this video
I was never a huge fan of the previous sandbox Super Mario games due to two major factors: hub worlds and the lack of traditional platforming. I can't stand hub worlds in platformers (and this is unfortunately something that extended to every other sandbox platformer back in the 90's, which hindered my enjoyment of them, as well). I just want to move on from level to level, and they completely prevent that. In addition, what makes me love level design in platforming is getting from the start to the end of a linear segment of progressing challenges, and sandbox platformers just didn't provide that. They were collectathons that had you complete a given objective, and booted you out of the level upon doing so.
Super Mario Odyssey, however, completely obliterates these two issues. Every level is its own sprawling world that offers both exploration and linear platforming segments, which flow together seamlessly. Outside of the main goals, you aren't told what objectives there are, rather you have to locate Power Moons with your own wit, much like Banjo-Kazooie, and the main goals are almost always purely linear platforming segments. The sheer amount of creativity and movement options added onto this make everything come together to form what is easily the greatest sandbox platformer to date, and the first one I've thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.
DKC: Tropical Freeze is still my favorite platformer of all time, but Odyssey sure gives it a run for its money.
Oh yeah, and the ability to capture enemies as an effective replacement to power-ups is pure genius.
That is a really interesting take on hub worlds, I always felt like it was an additional world to play through since it always had secrets as well. It's like the world that you learned like the back of your hand because you visited it so much, and added to a lot of games' theming, while also feeling like a safe break after the regular stages. But hey, to each their own, and I'm glad Odyssey has given you that reprieve. I liked that there wasn't a hub here either, it fit better into this game for sure :)
snowmaN Gaming
I'm glad that others can enjoy hub worlds, but they've always felt like nothing more than padding to me. They were mostly large, empty space that had little-to-no connection to the themes of the levels (though Banjo-Kazooie and Conker certainly did a better job at the latter), and they arbitrarily blocked your progression with doors that needed a certain amount of collectibles to progress. That's also something Odyssey alleviates: awkward progression. Needing to power up the Odyssey to move on to different kingdoms provides an in-game reason as to why you need to collect Power Moons, which is something I didn't even think about until typing this comment.
If there's one thing I can say, though, it's that A Hat in Time managed to not irritate me with its hub world, due to its small size and heavy connection to the various level themes, transitioning into them nicely. It's very refreshing to have enjoyed sandbox platformers so much for the first time in such a short time span within just one year.
Gokou Blacc I like all the points you make but I absolutely cannot stand linear games at all. Also, I think delfino plaza was genius because it somewhat connected the theme of the levels (Gelato Beach on the beach, blasting to Pina Park) and you could see all of the levels from different parts of the world. Also, delfino plaza was smaller and easier to traverse than banjo Kazooie and it DP had tons of secrets
NostalgiaFactor
Linear design works well for platformers. They're not adventure games.
2:49 I need more of that gameplay
*N O W*
That thumbnail looks awesome
I no lifed this game so hard! I totally agree! I love how the difficulty is up to the player!
It isn't 2-hour in-depth explanation with huge evidence supporting its view comparing and contrasting its views with others and how it is also more superior to others but also not dismissing them (and shoutout to Joseph Anderson).
-1 Point: Didn't reference rolling around at the speed of sound.
It was a great game
4:44 ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND!
Could you do a side-by-side comparison of SM: Odyssey and Ukka Laylee as open world collectathons, and why SM:O succeeded and UL failed?
rewatching this, I realized you implied MUSICIANS ARE A SPECIES

Tiny nitpick: Opening a "Pandora's box" is a bad thing. It's like opening a can of worms, but worse.
Otherwise, good stuff.
Unless you’re playing Devil May Cry 4
YOUR OUTRO IS JUST JFMS
Now we need to find Modern Sonic's good game design...
bad game design: Sonic 06
wait is this the last mario game!!!
This game and Sonic Forces came out in the same year. lol
109 and????
It's like a comical "Where are they now" segment. Mario's on top of the world and Sonic is suckin' dicks under a freeway overpass for a nickel a pop.
GotY! (Sorry Link)
JIGGLE PHYSICS!!!!!
WELL GUESS WHT I AM DA ORIGINAL SO I AM DA KING
This game is perfect for speedrunning. It rewards a lot experienced players.
Nintendo did it right.
This question isn't really sticking to the theme of this comment, but…
Did Edmund do Afterbirth+ right? (This question would've been better like 9 months ago)
Speedrunning this game is actually fun, mainly because of the really hard tricks you get to learn
Im sorry but lilith is the worst character in the game
@@whateverdude3044 Duh. He did all the official Rebirth expansions.
@@Jqcksremmurd Y' know, Keeper exists.

Shingo Sawatari/HGX "this is the greatest game ever made"
That blew my mind when it happened. I was just trying to climb a tree faster, then all of a sudden I WAS THE TREE!!
THAT'S WHAT MAKE THIS GAME A MASTER PIECE
*you can be a goombas*
Shingo Sawatari/HGX and a *ROCK*
My favorite thing from this game is Mario's Nose. IT HAS JIGGLE PHYSICS!!!!!
Parrarow Life YES thats actually the best new feature this game has.
Luigi's nose had that all the way back in Luigi's Mansion.
It technically has the same phisics of boobs in other videogames
Madame Broode has boob physics.
And the bird that lands on his nose, perfection.
YOU CAN BE A GOOMBAS
GabbyPlays ugh I hate how everyone's talking about odyessy, its all about odyessy, the piece of garbage that's only getting praise because it's a Nintendo game. God I'm so sick of this crap, is everybody forgetting the game we should be excited about?
KNACK 3 BAAABBYYYYYYY!!!!1!!!!
bwuak bwuak P,any the freakin game. Don't be like every other ps4 or Xbox lover. You judge the game even though you haven't played it. I'm not going to judge Knack 3 until I play it. I've never even heard of it.
iRaidius 925 No, first I made a Videogamedunkey reference and the Knack 3 was also a joke, the things before it was just lead up to the joke
bye bye goombas
iRaidius 925 its actually my favorite Mario game, my comment was just a joke/reference to another RUclipsr. Sorry for the Confusion.
I remember the first time I discovered the deep woods, and it just blew my mind that they built such a cool, large chunk of the map in a place where many players would not even think to look, it's a great surprise.
Also I love the little pose Mario does after a triple jump. It's just such class
Yea man I literrally went on and did 2 more kingdoms, then I came back to get more moons and fell by mistake....and then I notice the loading and screen transition looks weird. I'm like....wait...no way...you didn't do that?!.........oh yes, you fucking did it! :O A level within a level, in the most weird place :P Just amazing.
Jordan Cooper Too bad the deep woods had the most cryptic obnoxious moons in the game (like the stupid coin plant one).
Some Kind of Democrat I like that because it makes that area feel even more dark and dangerous
Jordan Cooper great surprise, but it gets rather annoying not being able to warp out when you miss a jump
Playing through this game, I was more surprised when there wasn't a secret around the corner.
They really did think of everything when they designed this game.
I honestly loved in the Sand Kingdom, the cacti that you can hit, because if you hit one, it’ll bounce and hit the others causing a chain reaction. It sold me on the rest of the game because I knew how much Nintendo polish there was going to be.
I love that if one hits you, you get little prickles in your nose lol
Yeah, and most are stacked in a certain way so that it's a puzzle. If you hit 4 or more in a row you get 10 coins. Once I found this out I threw my cap at everything. Amazing game, simply amazing.
(Android) Hardest mario game ever.

I have a gripe with Mario Odyssey... It didn't win Game Of The Year
Double A Animations Game of the Year wasn't even chosen yet
Double A Animations Well at least it was won by another amazing Nintendo game instead of something stupid.
Like Gone Home.
@@defectivesickle5643 I don't think BoTW's gameplay compares to mario odissey's. Odissey is still better to me
@@GodzillaGamerITA I've played through both of them and I must say that it's hard to compare them, since they are pretty different. Both of them aren't perfect, and honestly, I was fine with either one winning the game of the year award. I really hope their inevitable sequels are as good as the original games.
Double A's Workshop yeah no I prefer botw (if it wasn’t obvious from my pfp)
Just spent the last hour or so translating this video's subtitles to Brazilian Portuguese and I must say I'm impressed by how complex, yet well constructed of a script you have here. I love the way you express your love for this game and not even the smallest detail goes uncovered. I'm relatively new to the channel, but I'm a huge stan already. Awesome job!
I didn't even get to the current gen yet, but boy, it's harder every day not to pick a Switch when I can. I'm so screwed.
Thank you so much for translating, it means the world to me, honestly :D

The perfect Mario game for me would be the movement of Odyssey, a hub world like SM64, and the scope, level design, music, spectacle of Galaxy.
"Nintendo is the Disney of video games"
Pretty much sums up why I love Nintendo
BroFilms and that makes Mario the gaming equivalent of Micky Mouse
BroFilms except better and without musical numbers
BroFilms Nintendo is better
BroFilms Nintendo is the video game embodiment of Disney and Studio Ghibli
Please dont compare Nintendo to disney and all their PC crap. And I know y'all love Marvel but all that shit is the same play it safe basic movies, i can't even watch them anymore
New Donk City is the reason I love Super Mario Odyssey. It's so out of place yet perfect for Mario. I just love it so much!
City level needs to become as standard as fire and ice levels lol.
Yeah I really thought that the game really start to become ''complete'' when you first arrive in that level. Everything became more clear from there.
I could go on at least a ten minute diatribe on why New Donk City is amazing.
one may say it's familiar, but not too familiar
but not too not familiar
hellsong23 , this man is preaching the donkgone gospel for us. Ayyyhhmennn.
Super Mario Odyssey has design flaws with the moons. Either they're too easy (like the moon on the ledge in Lost Kingdom), too hidden (like all of the vibration moons and the dog moons), or wants to make us tear our hair (like the jump rope moon), or actually good, but good luck finding the latter category after you complete the story.
The added versatility of movement combos cappy adds is absolutely my favorite aspect of the game. I don't care if capture abilities return, as much as I'm enjoying sections where I need to control pokio specifically (to the point of can we get a bit of polish on Pokio's gameplay and a captain toad sized mid-range game with just that, please? Is that just me who wants that?) I just want cappy to stick around because of the additional movement options, and how much he improves Mario's move feel for me, he provides. Mario has always had good game feel, but the versatility of this moveset? Blows the previous Mario games out the water. I never want to go back to not having long jump into cap throw into dive to cap into cap jump into cap throw into dive for the longest jump I recall seeing in a 3d platformer outside of an actual hover or fly command. (Though I haven't gotten round to A Hat In Time yet, maybe the air dash and dash cancel shenanigans you highlighted in your video on that game acts an equivalent? Not sure I'll get chance to prior to Xenoblade 2, particularly with my focus at the moment being the board game Pandemic Legacy Season 2 and my wanting a palette clenser in video game form between 3d platforming games and my not being entirely done with Odyssey yet)
Give us playable peach, luigi and toad again all with their version of cappy. Give us different one game gimmicks to the capture on top of this move set. But if variants of Mario 64's moveset are what defined the past two decades of 3d Mario, I want this as the base way I want 3d Mario to play for the next two. I never want to go back to 3d Mario without this ability set.
I couldn't agree more, the new cappy movement feels so natural, all of his other games now feel obsolete lol
Odyssey 2 plsssss
Its Very Rare To Have A Game That Just Released Be The Best In Its Franchise
especially when its fucking mario!
Gizensha Fox i fully agree
I liked Galaxy's spin better
4:21 "Super Mario 64 introduced the Ground Pound"
cough cough *Yoshi's Island* cough cough
And that’s why both mid-1990s Super Mario games get credit, especially Super Mario World 2!
I love the "IF there IS a way to do it, let's reward them for it!" mindset Nintendo adopted.
"no other series could pay this many homages"
Kirby star allies or any Kirby game: say sike right now
Honestly watching SMO speedrunning is entertaining because of the movements. It feels like Nintendo has made this game also for speedrunnung. Everything of this game seems so... perfect from the designs, movements, I can go on for how stunning this game is. By far the best platformer that has scratches the surface.
I just completed the game yesterday to 100%. I really liked the game and I couldn't pinpoint why exactly. Your review explained it wonderfully! Thank you!
It amazes me that people say this game was overhyped. It is very well possibly one of Nintendo’s allstar titles
Brendan Duffy its easy and boring. 3d world and galaxy and 64 are so much more fun and chalenging
Brendan Duffy I feel it was good, but still a bit overhyped
It's not. Watch this video: ruclips.net/video/kYJx5xt2cB0/видео.html
@@moondrop3011 3D World is actually easy.
I know this comment is coming a year after the majority of the others, but I feel too strongly not to comment anyway.
One thing I love about this game that other people have touched on as well is the accessibility of it. I have a 3yo, and she loves this game. She can actually play, navigate, and find some moons on her own. There’s plenty for her to do and explore in the game that is entirely accessible to her as a brand new gamer (and I MEAN brand new...this game has literally taught her how to use a control stick and other buttons in conjunction).
At the same time, it’s been a blast and a challenge for me to play too. I’ve enjoyed the platforming challenges and the myriad of collectibles all over the place. It’s quickly become one of my favorite games, and it’s one I’m going to enjoy playing for a very long time.
I just bought a Wii the other day so I can play Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy 2, and those games feel so incredibly clunky and difficult now because I’ve spent so much time recently playing Odyssey. It’s crazy to me, especially considering Sunshine is another one of my favorite games of all time and one I’ve put a lot of time and effort into. Notably, my 3yo can hardly play them. The pointing mechanics of the Wii-mote are super difficult for her (plus the placement of the A and B buttons on the front and back of the controller), and the GameCube controller - which holds a lot of nostalgia for me - is very difficult for her, especially with both Sunshine and Luigi’s Mansion’s intense usage of the R button. It’s just too many buttons in too many various places on the controller for her to really keep track of. In Odyssey, in the other hand, though she can’t do all the moves - she definitely can’t do the hat throw and dive combo, for example - she’s perfectly fine doing the basics, and the basics are perfectly fine for generally running around levels and collecting some moons and coins and things. It’s so intuitive for her on a level that astounded me, especially compared to her difficulty with other games.
I really do think this is the best Mario game ever made, and I did not think that I would feel this way going in.
You're just a noob. Super Mario Odyssey has 0 challenge. That's why your child can play it so easily.

Dude I've been playing games for 28 years, and I'm allowed to like and enjoy whatever the fuck I want. Get a life, bud.
What bothers me about this is that you let your 3 year old child play the game. Screens and videogames are poison to young kids!
Hope you haven't bought an iPhone already for your kid.
@@CeetjeBeetje Maybe you should focus on parenting your own kids and let me parent mine. She’s a great kid, she loves gaming, and I’m certainly not taking that from her because some stranger on the internet judged me for it. I’ll take happy kid over happy internet stranger any day. Dunno why the parenting of someone you don’t know bothers you so much.
Also. Bruh. I myself grew up playing games and watching tv from a young age. It’s not “poison.” Mind your own.
@@victoriousone4867 Definately not do it for me. I don't care about your kid. Just the general concept of parents spoiling their kids with shit they don't need, doesn't sit well with me. Just so they'll be happy.
It's not your job as a parent to make your kids happy or be their "friend", it's your job to prepare them for life as an adult.
The amount of weak-minded, spoiled young adults these days, is out of control!
Personally, one of my favorite things in this game is just watching the Odyssey fly from one area to another. The amount of detail they put into those transitions is just icing on the cake. It's especially noticeable in the last few levels, but the game does have a different set piece for that short scene for every level, even though most people will probably just skip through them anyway.
*insert comment about how older titles where better and Odyssey being a dissapointment to feel myself smarter and critical thinking*
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Odyssey truly is the best 3D Mario, don't even care about the haters. I replayed Mario 64 for footage and it felt SOOOO slow and sluggish compared to how insanely fast Mario can traverse now. The hat throw will now be synonymous with Mario to me and without it he will feel limited (IMO)
I don't think it's fare to compare movement in 3D Mario games and only mention Odyssey and 64, since 64 has arguably the worst movement in the series. I don't wanna start an argument since I haven't played Odyssey yet, but if its movement feels better than Sunshine's, then I might have to get a Switch soon.
trust me when I say that the movement in Odyessy is VASTLY superior to sunshine's movement. Every action in Odyessy feels responsive and quick with the edition of cappy that grants you extra movement that Flood was able to do but much much much faster. The pacing in Odyessy can be as quick or as slow as you want it to be too which is where I feel sunshine really dropped the ball on repeat play throughs
I gotta admit the movement thingy is by far the most important point to make. Atmosphere is opinion based; But the movement options are vastly superior. And they do feel great which makes it more fun to traverse the kingdoms ;)
Ninjaananas its true tho. Odyssey is a sloppy trashy milky game with no lasting impressions
The thing about Odyssey that stuck out to me, that no one else seems to be talking about, is that it feels a lot more solitary than the previous few Mario games, and I don't mean that in a bad way. In the galaxy games you had so many other characters along with you on your ship that It just felt like one big huge party that everyone was in on, rather than the idea that it's just you and Mario on the adventure together, and honestly made me feel quite disconnected from the galaxy games as a result. Odyssey feels much more like the original Mario experience, where the focus is much heavier on Mario, and yourself for that matter.
I also really liked the little touch of them sat in the ship, passing the time by reading brochures to get your imagination rolling for a new kingdom.
SPOILERS AHEAD
The random surprise areas where you are shipwrecked also further drive this impression of an adventure, which I thought was really cool.
Couldn't disagree more. This felt like the most populated game of them all. No other game had so many NPCs in the actual levels just hanging out.
it actualy creates the feeling, that, yes, you are actually flying and travelling between kingdoms, and yes, it takes time to fly. You aren't teleporting between kingdoms.
Krombopulos Michael He meant on the Odyssey. It’s just you and Mario. The kingdoms aren’t part of Odyssey. Those NPCs don’t come with you.
Marioman303
And technically Cappy, so really Mario is actually never alone if you think about it.
I absolutely adore this game. My friend sent a copy and I'm forever grateful. Gotta collect them all 🌙 🌙 🌙
Kawaii Lola your friend is god
yes! she is ^^
I've been playing video games as long as I can remember and I never once 100% completed a game until I played Odyssey. I loved every second of it and would do it again in a heartbeat. What a good ass game.
I loved the game and I played it 100 hours and still some purple coins hiiden in somewhere. A true masterpiece!
It is not: ruclips.net/video/kYJx5xt2cB0/видео.html
Mario himself IS the best part of Super Mario Odyssey
Then again, none can go wrong with the man in red (who has superheroic and therefore great skills like being able to jump super high this earning the nickname “Jumpman”, nearly if not quite up to the ranks of his big-little brother, the man in Green Luigi, who is debatably just as famous) himself!
you may be able to play catch with the doggo but you can't pet the doggo :(((

How in the world could you give this video or this game a thumbs down??
Conner M Hunter IKR
Maybe somebody didn't agree with what he said. I know that I didn't agree. I didn't give it a dislike, since I almost never dislike videos, but different people have different opinions and they may have disliked the video just because they disagreed.
Because you didn't like the game/video?
1:29 those people are giants. My reasoning is because Mario is 5'1" and they appear to be twice as tall as him.
i hope they make a sequel...my main problem is too few levels
Peter Parker imo the lenght of the game is perfect, you can complete it in either 2 hours or 50 depending on how much you want to get out of it
A galaxy 2 style sequel would surely be awesome though XD
You know the game is good when the only problem is the fact that we want more :P
Or free DLC
Peter Parker I would have been fine with the length if they made the Ruined and Cloud kingdoms significantly bigger (yknow, like actual kingdoms). They could compensate for that by not selling 50 billion moons.
The problem is that they showed too many kingdoms before the game released... the only real new kingdoms were bowser kingdom and lake kingdom. I would have loved to see some more new kingdoms.
Well, I learned something new about Odyssey from this video. Cappy can deflect Fire Piranha Plant fire.
This reminds me of all the people shouting, "You can ride bears?!" on BotW videos, which always made me very happy. Thanks for giving us so much to learn, Nintendo.
Most oldschool mario fans:
OMG ITS AN OPEN WORLD GAME ILL TAKE YOUR ENTIRE STOCK
They should have called it Super Mario: Majora's Hat
Not Good Game Design, but
Supreme Game Design
I'm getting this game for Christmas I've been so excited for it and this video made me want it even more. Thank you Snoman as always.
I need to buy a Switch
Same here.. although I was debating whether or not I should just wait until the next Yoshi & Metriod games.
In a few years, we're going to look back and realize that Galaxy was better
Galaxy is overrated nowadays
Eh, tbh this game was good but there was so much pointless content in it that it began to become mundane very fast...sorry dude I think you have a bit of a fan boy veil on.
Though I thoroughly enjoyed Odyssey, I feel the need to play a bit of devil's advocate here. The positives have been discussed to death at this point.
Maybe Galaxy just spoiled me, but I feel like the camera could have been better. And this isn't just a linear vs. pen world thing. Much of the time it made automatic adjustments against my wishes. And the lack of separate inversion setting for first and third person views made aiming the tank gun really unintuitive for someone who inverts third person because they think of the controls as moving the camera. Breath of the Wild has a very similar camera that never makes any movements unrelated to the player's direct input. It also doesn't have the inversion problem because it aims in an over-the-shoulder RE4 style.
Mario himself feels a bit stiff. He starts and stops with such ease that it kills the sense of momentum 64 and even 3D Land had. The stiffness was especially difficult to get used to in the 2D sections. Seeing the original SMB sprite with such little momentum is jarring. And this might just be down to the joycons, but it was very difficult to move Mario slowly. There was very little space between running at full speed and not moving at all. The lack of octagonal grooves on the thumbstick doesn't help matters either. The camera always seems to wind up directly above Mario because of this.
Drastically reducing the penalty for death caused a few issues too. While it allows for a more difficult game and encourages risk taking and exploration, it also excuses poorer conveyance sloppy play.
But my biggest gripe comes down to the button selection. I understand the choice to use only 3 buttons, but I really think the game would have benefited from separating the Cappy button from the run button. The biggest problem with this is that Mario doesn't require holding Y to run (except in 2D) but nearly every other controllable entity does. 600+ moons in and this still messes me up constantly. Mapping Cappy to X would have alleviated this problem, as well as others, and freed up the shoulder buttons to be used while possessing things. It took me ages to get used to diving because the input was changed from the intuitive SM64 method to a more contrived method reminiscent of a Mortal Kombat special move.
That said, it's still a 9/10 for me. Those are just the reasons it wasn't a 10/10. Mostly the last one.
the game is almost perfect, though I wished the costumes were something more than just like an occasional pass to new areas
The depressing thing is how it's so linear compared to 64 and I can't explain how
I feel the opposite personally: Odyssey if anything is the most open moving 3D Mario since 64. Sunshine came close but is restricted in that you MUST do all the Shadow Mario sections to progress, and the Galaxy duo opted for a middle ground approach of 3D movement but with set courses/routes like the more classic games.
If only Sonic Forces has such great game design for its style of gameplay
Super Mario (Odyssey and most other games in the SM franchise like the Super Mario/Wario Land series, Super Mario Advance tetralogy, Super Mario 3D World, the original Super Mario Bros. trilogy for the NES/SNES aka Super Mario All-Stars/Virtual Console, the Super Mario World duology and the original’s custom hacks, the Super Mario Galaxy duology and Super Mario RPG and Super Paper Mario if counting the Mario RPGs for more reasons than they have “Super Mario” in the greatly underrated games’ names) bashers are so butthurt that they be all like “IT DOES, YOU JUST SUCK AT THAT SUPER UNDERRATED SONIC GAME THAT IS OBVIOUSLY SONIC FORCES!!!!!”.
- "Mario 64 introduces ground pound"
- Yoshi's Island: disagrees
-Mario Land 3: I concur
I love pretty much every aspect of Odyssey, but if I had to choose just 1 improvement that was best, like you said, the movement is what makes this game for me. It feels like a middle ground between the movement of something like 64/Galaxy and Sunshine. It truly makes it feel like the skill ceiling is higher than it has ever been in any previous title.
i wish nintendo put a speedrun mode considering it's highly encourage in the koopa races
To be honest Mario Odyssey feels like the Banjo-Threeie that I've been wanting to play ever since I finished Tooie in 2000. It's like Nintendo took the best aspects of the games from the N64 era and modernized them, heck the capture mechanic feels like how the Mumbo/Humba transformations would logically progress.
The movement is good af.
Nintendo king of platformers? Two words:
Knack

Kek
Bryce Bitetti HERE COMES THE MONEY!
Bryce Bitetti Forget Knack 2, the real mastapiece is
KNACK 3 BABYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PROS: great movement options, very cool capture mechanics, getting rid of lives encourages taking risks to explore, a lot of nice details in mario's model/animations. CONS: great movement lost when playing on the go, the worlds feel uninspired and the mixed aesthetics break the immersion, texture quality in some areas is horrible. Compare the gfx quality of the environments in this game to the SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD. If we had the odyssey's gameplay design mixed with 3d world's environment art style I would be the happiest whiner in the world.
Are you going to talk about the bad game design choice of reserving certain options to motion controls despite the game only giving half the available buttons unique functions? No?
I enjoy the music
WOODED KINGDOM
ZedK49 wooden kingdom music is bomb
I dont have a switch so maybe its just because I haven't played it yet but honestly... I really didn't think Mario odyssey was going to be that good but apparently it was...
I honestly found the capturing aspect a bit underwhelming. I thought it would be more universal, but instead you can only really capture very arbitrary specific things, which are usually placed in exactly the right place for you to use them. The end result kind of feels no different from power ups in previous games, rather than being a new mechanic that you have to use in clever ways.
Nintendo is the Disney of video games... 40 years ago when Disney was mildly creative. all they do now is stick to their perfectly crafted marvel formula while sometimes releasing a sequel to a pixar ip or a sub-par remake of a beloved classic to remind you that they don't just make avengers movies. oh and i guess they make shitty star wars movies to. Nintendo is a gold standard for making creative and enjoyable content and shouldn't be compared to other, lesser companies.
At least Nintendo makes new IPs like Splatoon and Arms. Disney hasn’t made anything original since probably Frozen.
I'll be honest, I didn't enjoy this Mario very much. Felt like it suffered from DK64 syndrome. Too much shit to collect with no meaning. I mean, for fuck sake, one THOUSAND moons!? There's like 6-8 in that alley way with the T-rex chasing you alone...the hell is the point of that?! That felt terrible to be collecting something so important but so abundant and just lying around like they were pennies on the floor.
You should do a top 10 favorite new enemy's/characters in super Mario Odyssey
I’ve got an idea for odyssey 2. What if on top of new kingdoms, you could go to other places within the already established kingdoms?
That'd be cool, or pull a Galaxy 2 and have "throwback" kingdoms, but in a little more creative ways
Matt Henderson id love this. They could reuse some assets to make a different part of the kindom. Same feel, but more of it. I just want more of this wonderful game
2:52 "I don't think fan service has ever been done so well" Ah, well that's just because smash ultimate hadn't come out yet
Ultimate came out December 7, 2018.
Goodness....the mastery of design. That new blood in Nintendo...who the hell are they? ALIENS?? REPTILES???? SKULL and BONES??
I can see why people like this game. Unfortunately the few things I dislike about it are why I can't enjoy the game. Those being the constant tutorials about how to play the game and motions controls. If they had only added a toggle for the tutorials and allowed motion controls to not be the only way to perform certain actions, this would've been my favorite game on the Switch.
I hope this sparks another revolution in 3D style collectathons like Banjo and Kazooie. But either way when a sequel comes out and I'm sure one will come out I hope it's just as good and expands on everything that made the original game so good. So mainly egg fun and quirky story, fluid movement, and fun and clever ways to find moons 😁
I never was a big fan of Mario games (and platformers in general) but the things I keep hearing about this game makes me with I had Switch so I could play Mario Odyssey.
This game's overrated
@@mep6302 your face is overrated
As a long time fan of 3D Mario games and Nintendo in general i have to say that Odyssey was actually not my favorite. Overall it had so much going for it from the capture mechanic, to Mario's new move set, to the vibrant and different level designs and locals. But with all that being said, I really did not like the fact that there were so many moons! More is not always better. In games like Mario 64 and Sunshine, they had specific collectibles for specific missions. When i got a star or shine sprite it felt like it mattered and I was really achieving something, but with Odyssey it gave you a moon every few steps and as a result it wasn't as rewarding for me. I did end up doing a 100% play through of this game, but it left a sour taste in my mouth afterwards. The fact that the last 50 plus moons i had to coin farm for was just monotony at its finest. I think if I had just done 50% of the game i would had more fun, but doing a full play through showed me that again less is more and that Mario does not need to have these massive worlds to be fun, but condensed more meaningful levels would have been my preference. Its the same thing with Breath of the Wild shrines for me, don't get me wrong I love that game, but having bigger more immersive dungeons with different themes would have been a lot more enjoyable to have the copy and paste like shrine formula. To sum up Odyssey is a great game, but lacked some of the things why i love 3D mario games, from the lack of a hub world, to the bloated collectibles, to the tedious tasks I give it a 7.5 out of 10.
February 2019 update on the speedrun status of the game: 1:00:00 exactly. Sub 1hour coming soon
Is it just me or do all the reviews of this game say "i had a grin the whole time" or something like that?
When my family bought switch, my parents were waiting for this game very eagerly. (My parents dont play a lot of games. My father plays mario now and then and my mother plays both mario and Zelda sometimes).
When this game came out. It didn't take long for my father to hint that ''should we go buy that new mario game?'' : D
If you pirate this game i will find you unless you're speedrun ing
What stood out to me most were the Jump rope and Volleyball minigames, specifically the 100 moons for them. I don't understand how something so bad can make it into an otherwise consistently great game.
They weren't that bad, with the volleyball just switch to 2p mode and use Cappy, he moves way faster. But the final endgame bouncy race...now that one was WAY to difficult lol
The only thing I didn't like was the motion hat throws controls that just didn't work like they should most of the time
Being real, how is it even possible to continue expanding Mario’s moveset in the next installation? I’m honestly really interested in hearing people’s thoughts.
I agree. Odyssey is the best 3D Mario of all time for me as well. I even had to pause the game because I teared up when I found a certain character on the roof of the post-story kingdom. That moment grabbed and threw me back to my childhood.
