Bulova, Waltham, elgin are favorites to pick up. My local jeweler is a great source. It is a family jeweler who has been around for generations. One day while selling scrap I asked what he had upstairs. He said just a bunch of junk, mostly watches. I said would you sell me a box of junk for $100? He laughed, I said I will be back in an hour. He didn't believe me , didn't have anything when I came back. I said fine I am going to walk to goodwill and spend this (held up a $100) He said give me 10 min. Brought down a box full, said he literally grabbed a box and a handful of "junk", laughed and said good luck. Start of a beautiful and prosperous endeavor for us both!

Great video Pete, I have over 1200 active watches online for sale at the moment and the sell-through rate is amazing and I source them 24/7 and get them pretty cheap overall. I love watches because it's always fascinating to find a gem hidden within. The one thing i have learned is you need to learn how to change batteries, wind them up and test them and accurately measure the case, lug width and bandwidth in order to sell fast. It's also important to learn how to accurately describe watches because the bigger collectors don't want to buy from someone who doesn't know what they have when they are spending a couple hundred or thousands of of of dollars. Watches and jewelry, in general, are great sellers for me and I talk highly about this on my channel. I love selling watches. I use to go to the auction(went out of business) that almost every auction would sell lots of about 20 to 40 watches at a time and the lots would sell for between $15 to $30 so I would spend about 50 cents to a dollar a watch. So I went to my local senior center thrift shop about 2 weeks ago. After looking for all my normal pick-ups, I remembered this video and went to look through the jewelry case. I found an Omega for a dollar and last night it sold for $38. Thank you Pete. I probably wouldn't have even looked in the case if it wasn't for you. I do buy a lot of watches but I don't sell them. I guess that makes me a collector. My favorite is the late 70s red L.E.D. watches that would light up when the button was pressed. Very difficult to find today in working condition because the part that connects the main circuit board of the watch to the L.E.D.s shrinks and looses contact.

Thanks Pete , I went to 3 thrift shops today and found a polar rcx5, timex nightmare before Christmas and a pee wee herman watch all for under $13 Canadian , I think I should get about $180. Thank you for the inspiration on watches.
I was always ignorant to the potential for inexpensive watches, but will be paying much more attention to them. I will try this category out after this quick tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
Master Pete, even though I had sold watches here and there, it’s never been with discipline like others where I focus my sales on. After this video, i went bulldozing my house for watches: some designer watches my wife and I dont wear, several Vintage and newer Casio G from different generations, watches that went out of fashion to my kids and they threw inside a random drawer. Even some random, no working watches I bundled in 3 or 5, like EVERYTHING sold. Can you imagine a bundle of whatever 3 watches, who would by these things. Spot on great master. Thank you
You have a super tight community, very inspiring. I loved watching this video, it's so rare that someone can learn a different perspective for what to sell on eBay. Thank you!
Awesome again Pete, you're the number 1 guy I look up to within Reselling! I've sold some amazing HiFi pieces recently that sold between £300-£500! Cheers 😁👍
20 years old and can agree with u Pete, don’t see much ads targeted towards us. But vintage watches have gotten me in the game big time, spent a good little amount, got a wittenauer, bulova accutron, and a seiko world timer
I like smalls because they are easy to ship. I started in jewelry, specifically religious jewelry, which is a niche in itself. Then, later, I started picking up interesting watches at the thrifts and finally started buying lots for resale. I recently bought a 16lb lot of watches (avg 44 cents a watch) and in the lots, I usually find one or two that will pay for the whole lot. I try to pay $4-$6 a pound tho will go higher depending on what I'm seeing. I rarely pay more than $10-$15 for an individual watch unless it's something unique.
Started getting into watches last summer and it's really paying off!! My favourite so far was a vintage Casio watch that looked like a calculator model BUT it was actually a remote that could change TV channels!
LOL I was just thinking that before I seen this. When I was younger that was my favorite watch ever and still is. I remember when my grandparents were still alive I always messed with there tv. Good times You got me think I might buy one for myself!
my son had one of those in high school and would always mess with the TV when the teacher would put on a video for them to watch and couldn't figure out what was wrong even brought in another TV to test it out on. It wasn't until the end of the year that he finally told her I showed her what he done they both had a great laugh
Thanks for the tips! I typically pass the watches and jewelry all together because I don't know enough about it. BUT...challenge accepted. LOL Like you said, small investment for potentially a nice profit. And at the very least I will learn something new. I'll keep you posted!
Pete, thanks for this specific video You are creating competition for me but thats OK as there is plenty to go around. This can be lucrative as I have sold cheap to expensive, vintage to new watches privately and online.
Just came across one of your videos, and I’m really liking your channel. I’m gonna have to visit your store when things get better out there. I don’t live too far.
I've found watches and bought them by the bucket full. The watch bands were the items I was interested in. Some silver, some turquoise, some nice, some not so nice. Also, some knockoff Rolex and other brands are selling for $200 to $250 in some markets. I was never really a "watch guy" but within the last year or so I've noticed them to be fascinating tools and just excellent pieces of american culture. I truly would love to learn the art of watch repair because it's just so doggone...amazing. The intricate movements, the tiniest of parts, just fascinates me beyond anything....cheers to anyone in this business. Happiest of trails.
Yeah, the movements are amazing! i found myself listening to my automatic watch last night, when you start it up it makes a cool lil sound, all in all it's just fascinating!
I resell watches on ebay a bit, mostly for fun and some extra cash. Usually in the price range of $50-$500. My suggestion is, go for mens watches and look for vintage and semi vintage watches of well known brands. Casios are easy, just look up the model number on the back. Some old 80's casio can be worth $100 or more but look like a piece of junk. Citizen and Seiko diving watches are always popular. Tissot and Certina are good sellers as well in the lower price range. Stay away from fashion brands, they are usually overpriced and can be fake. Don't mess with the big brands either if you don't know what you're doing, there are so many fakes out there. Contrary to the information in the video, don't disregard Timex! I sold a Timex with Snoopy on it recently for $299, bought it for $80... And another Timex indiglo ana digi sold for $50 and I think I paid $5 for it + a new battery.
When Walmart had watches for $5, it came in a set with a keychain - I bought it for the Key chain Bag Charm and got the watch for free. I bought the whole Caravelle watch collection at JC Penney at 90% off and also used their "points money" so basically I paid for the whole thing about $50. I like my Timex watch that glows in the dark - I really don't care about the name or the brand, maybe most men do? I think women look more at the style of the thing. I can't wait for Kmart to have their 90% off on watches in their closing sale, I like to buy the things mostly new so I know that they work.
I sell pre-owned luxury watches. there's lots of money to be made, but if you put it in percentage it's not as good. Most watches sell between 60 to 90 days. However if you make a mistake it's very costly
I do sell a lot of Geneva watches for $5-$10 locally or in lots.. people buy them as their everyday watch. Not everyone needs to or wants to pay $50 or more for a watch.
This was great information. I’ve watched some of your videos about selling VCRs or combos. And I’ve done some of that. But so much more space to test, store, and a pain to ship. This is sooooo much easier. I’ve sold a few in the past but agree that this is an area to concentrate on. And, I travel a lot for work and try to thrift a bit wherever I go. I can always pack a watch or two. I even bought a watch repair kit as you sometimes have to put new batteries in it. Thanks for the good stuff.
Wow that's so true, as someone in their late teens I never use Ebay unless it's for videogames or replacing used car parts. I use amazon for everything else. I just love 2 day/1day shipping.
Yeah I’m big on instant gratification. When I see something I want waiting more than a couple of days seems like an eternity these days. I bought a rare limited edition item off eBay for the first time in probably ten years last week (late January.) I should expect it in early April. They stated that up front and it is coming from the EU, so I knew what I was getting into. But still…
My best watch flip was an Oakley I picked up from a high school rummage sale. I wasn't even sure it worked, but after a quick battery swap, I quadrupled my investment!
Great video! I just wanted to let you know. There is a huge difference between gold filled and gold plated. The difference is, Gold filled watches contain much more gold on them than gold plated watches. So if the movement is crap, you can still sell the watch for more just because of their gold content.
I think all the savers closed in Minnesota or most but they used to fill vases with jewelery and watches for 24.99..i used to buy them and got about 105 watches out of one glass vase filled with them.. Decent ones, fossil..etc..bought bulk batteries on eBay for like 15 bucks..but OMG.. Some watch backs don't want to go back on when you get them off lol annnnoyyyying. Hehe good luck.
I found a nice Wittnauer Swiss quartz watch that needed a battery for 1 dollar and sold in 2 days for 40.00 dollars or something like that either way the profit margins was huge and I could have probably ask more and waited and got it!
You definitely have to know what to look for with watches. It's really not as easy as he's making it sound. Majority of watches have a value of $1.00 or less. Also don't forget the batteries if they need one. Add another $3.00 to your purchase.
I was just in The sparrows nest in Cary , they had a bunch of bags of watches upfront, 10 watches for $20, I didn’t know enough about them to look through the bags but I am going to make it one of my goals to learn about them
That was that place in Algonquin in a large intersection you went to...couldn't tell from the outside...but I recognized the inside when you checked out. Scary since I haven't been there in over 10 years...
I know you stay SUPER busy with all your merchandise. Consider going through some of that costume jewelry. I make a lot of money on that, especially the brooches.
That's Pete! Finally a niche I can get started and dabble in. You should do a video of how to spot a fake Rolex or Louis Vuitton or Gucci. I had a Waltham watch in the early 70's when I was a kid that looked nicer than yours; i think it was $40 back then. All I know is it's long gone now but it was a great watch!
Love it, I will definitely look into selling watches. I have passed so many up in yard sales and thrift stores I can kick myself for not knowing better. Well, now I know. So thank You very much for the info.
You should watch Casey’s newer video, (Rockstar Flipper) on other places to source, besides the thrifts. I’m sick of their greedy ass high prices and you should be too!
I respectfully disagree with the age range on ebay. At least in the UK. Here one of the biggest selling categories = Make up. And not good quality makeup, just whatever is popular, and a shocking amount of fake makeup. Young ppl buy like crazy

Excellent learning video! Who knew that watches could sell so well? I have a few old watches that I have had for quite a few years--I will have to check them out!
FYI...Gold Filled is a quality process that will not run off b/c the Jewelers brass is wrapped and bonded by pure gold. Plating, unless purposely thick, will wear off fairly quickly. Don't sell yourself short with Gold Filled. That buyer got a steal at 49.95! Investigate it...it's actually a niche within a niche!

The best items right now that have a high turn over rate is ANY DVD RECORDERS 1080P OR HIGHER. I get these for between 5-20 dollars and they sell for over 200 at times. Something to look out for.

I've had decent watch sales but it's rare that I find any worth picking up. Those that are new to this will need some basic watch tools and of course an assortment of batteries. Ebay is a great source for the batteries. In my experience the Swiss, USA and Japan made ones are the best and least likely to leak. Speaking of leakage, that can be a problem. I've picked up numerous watches that were ruined by 20+ year old leaking batteries. Some good tutorials on RUclips which I have found indispensable since our local watch repairman retired.
When I used to help run an auction house we would buy bulk lots of watches from government websites. I would get 300-500 watches for around average a buck a piece. We made a killing. These would be confiscated from criminals and drug dealers. You know they buy the expensive stuff. These are great sites to get inventory. Even jewelry pays off.
@@dannyscott2123 you have to look up the auction sites. They were a bunch of .gov websites from different states. I would look through many different ones then sign up and bid. I don't remember the exact certain ones. Usually bigger cities had better or more quantity but sold higher. Smaller ones will save you a bunch of money as long as they have what you are looking for.
Has Pete ever addressed the ebay sellers group he once had with Nicole State, Golden Finger Picker (Chad) and Hart Pickers (Ronnie). They had that big ebay meet up some years ago with intentions of more but it all seemed to fall out afterward. Nicole has had a very strange online history. Chad's channel is gone.
Thanks for the info! I never would have thought my old watch collection could be worth anything. We'll see! Thanks again!
Great vlog. Informative to the novice buyer. Keep on truckin my friend.
Nice! Those weird old Casios are always good sellers!
my son had one of those in high school and would always mess with the TV when the teacher would put on a video for them to watch and couldn't figure out what was wrong even brought in another TV to test it out on. It wasn't until the end of the year that he finally told her I showed her what he done they both had a great laugh
George Ross - Retro Reselling lOl I did the same thing! To funny
@@peppiholliday4525 😂😂
Thanks for the tips! I typically pass the watches and jewelry all together because I don't know enough about it. BUT...challenge accepted. LOL Like you said, small investment for potentially a nice profit. And at the very least I will learn something new. I'll keep you posted!
Pete, thanks for this specific video You are creating competition for me but thats OK as there is plenty to go around. This can be lucrative as I have sold cheap to expensive, vintage to new watches privately and online.
I just took a chance on pocket knives and what a return. Went to an auction and bought a bunch, selling within days of listing.
PRR Modeler thanks for the tip!
Yup. Super easy money in knives, too.
Thank you for the heads up Sir, I will take a closer look at the watches I currently have. Then add watches to my research and sourcing list.
Glad I took the time to “watch”. Thank you for education.
Nice Orvis watch. Also look for watches with white leather bands too...for nurses. Nurses love the white leather bands! ☺️
Just came across one of your videos, and I’m really liking your channel. I’m gonna have to visit your store when things get better out there. I don’t live too far.
A lot of the vintage dive style watches do really well ... clean them and up and put a cheap new strap on them
I've found watches and bought them by the bucket full.
@David Gridley. Thanks for the tip. I have about 12 of those watches right now. Do you replace the battery before selling?
@@itsabouttogetreal8051 Yes, unless selling a big lot. Battery installed is always a plus.
@@DavidGridley ok, thank you.
Thanks for the good stuff.
you got me into electronics and ever since then my ebay business changed. I'm definitely hopping in this one.
But still…
we stick with electronics and sell very consistently but other items like that are also great to look out for, thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the good info as always Pete. That Neon Green TV in your man cave is amazing!
My best watch flip was an Oakley I picked up from a high school rummage sale. I wasn't even sure it worked, but after a quick battery swap, I quadrupled my investment!
Like all your how-to videos. Sold watches in the past, but this video made me rethink my selling. thanks
Thanks Pete! I hope that everyone appreciates your enthusiasm in trying to help all of us re-sellers to be successful. Peace.....
I like the way you think. Been watching eBay reseller vids since I started in October but haven't seen you yet. Like the accent.
Love your channel. So much insight knowledge for free.
You definitely have to know what to look for with watches. It's really not as easy as he's making it sound. Majority of watches have a value of $1.00 or less. Also don't forget the batteries if they need one. Add another $3.00 to your purchase.
Inspiring and encouraging! My husband has flipped a couple watches. The run of the mill that you mention. Subscribed. Thank you!
You're awesome, Pete! And one of the only eBay channels I still watch.
Love it, I will definitely look into selling watches. I have passed so many up in yard sales and thrift stores I can kick myself for not knowing better. Well, now I know. So thank You very much for the info.
Thrift stores are one of my favorite places to buy inventory to sell on ebay. Thanks for the video Craigslist hunter
You should watch Casey’s newer video, (Rockstar Flipper) on other places to source, besides the thrifts. I’m sick of their greedy ass high prices and you should be too!
@@MJ95630 yeah I talk to Casey All the Time. We are actually filming a RUclips video Together On Thursday at Ebay Upfront in Tampa.
Ebay Addicts lol Very cool. Did you catch all his great suggestions? ;) Small world!
Ebay Addicts I just think we all need to let the GW esp, feel the sting of our absence! I ONLY go on big 50% off days anymore. ;)
I respectfully disagree with the age range on ebay. At least in the UK. Here one of the biggest selling categories = Make up. And not good quality makeup, just whatever is popular, and a shocking amount of fake makeup. Young ppl buy like crazy
Jessica J Ah, so it might be just the states then. I live in the u.k not got a business was going to get back into vinyl but nothing is selling. Disheartening.
@@Pauldjreadman vinyl records? I know vinyl and cassettes are "back in fashion" in the uk
@@Pauldjreadman not sure how big the market is, but I know they sell
@@jessicaj8564Vinyl records are a very selective market. People want the quality Punk which i hard to get then they want it cheap. Cassettes are the same. I have bought some Status Quo vinyl albums last year nothing on ebay or Facebook. I would love to buy loads of vinyl and sell it but people will not pay out if they are not big names.
My family business is watches and clocks. We mainly deal with american watches like Elgin, Waltham, Hamilton, Illionios, etc.
Watches, that's how we got started. Probably time for us to go back to them, as I've run out of storage space & we are stagnant at this time.
Super interesting post Peter! I especially like the tips about what to look for when buying - you have such an experienced eye for that stuff that it really helps. :)
Lol. I literally started doing watches 2 weeks ago. 🤣🤣🤣
You are totally right. I just found a Casio watch on offer up for $10 and it is worth $400!!!!
Hey Pete, I'm gonna give watches a try. You steered me right with the DVD/VHS combo's. The part I like the most is the sell through rate.
Citizen Eco-Drive all day. They are Solar powered, so lot of people put them in a drawer for a wile and think they need a new battery and sell them for cheap.
Thanks Pete for this video it just reassured me that I can make some money on my watches now. love your videos have learned a lot from you. Man the batteries the watches have there is like 20 different kinds lol my fav brand is fossil right now for the cheaper watches and the Brighton watches are very nice and good sellers.
Been watching your videos for the last few days. Finally subbed! I’m a avid seller too, but you have some great tips to get more money for your buck. Thank you!
Iam already selling watches for about 5 yrs now I like vintage watches I make the most money with them even for parts
I have a ton of watches just never thought about selling them ,guess I better take a second look at them. Thank you for this video.
Thanks for the watch info! Always appreciate and enjoy your videos!
you inspired me to list my deathpile of 50 or so watches! thanks!
Excellent learning video! Who knew that watches could sell so well? I have a few old watches that I have had for quite a few years--I will have to check them out!
very interesting, I had not given much thought to the age of ebay buyers but once you put it out there: its like why didnt I think of that.
GREAT info!! I have watches I never wear any more, plus a pair of Zodiac watches that had rarely been worn. Thanx for the help.
I do well on vintage mechanical wrist watches. Can get them at estate, garage and local auctions. Have picked them up for $1-$5 each sold some $200-$300 or more.
just curious if you keep batteries on hand and test all your watches or how ever else you might do it?
@@davidtompkins8218 I mostly look for mechanical watches they don't require a battery. I do look for quartz (battery) watches also. I have a number of batteries that you can pick up really cheap on eBay.
2nd comment - Wow I guess I start a EBAY account. I have over 100 watches. Most of them are vintage.
What about compasses?
The best items right now that have a high turn over rate is ANY DVD RECORDERS 1080P OR HIGHER. I get these for between 5-20 dollars and they sell for over 200 at times. Something to look out for.
I want that Casio too lol. Thanks for this video.
Love all Ur videos Pete
More new ones please
We watch fro Glasgow Scotland UK 🏴🇬🇧
Swatch Watches I have found a lot and some bring good $ I think thrift stores think they are kids watches because they are colorful and have crazy designs on some of them keep an 👀 out
Hi, how much on average do they get, and are they working? Thx.
litestreamer depends on the year the 80’s are the most sought after especially the all black with the diamond. Low range $20 High $100. The most I have ever sold one was $96 cost me 65 cents thrift store in Lake Havasu that was a orange bright bubbly print
Wow I'm so glad I fund you! So informative, thank you!
Great tips! Something that I never look at but will start to look for.
Thanks for the info. I'm in an apartment not much space for inventory. Will look into this for sure.
I thought ebay's sold items go's back 90 days? And all the people commenting on watch batteries being a problem and costing too much, learn how to be resourceful and get your hustle on!! There are ways to get batteries for next to nothing! But knowing what brands to look for and how to spot knockoffs is a whole different game. Good info pete, thx
It’s hard for me to find good watches anymore but occasionally I find a good one for cheap!!!!
Thanks great video!!! I love selling watches, actually how I started reselling years back!!!
I'm 22 and sell and buy a ton on eBay, can't beat second hand prices.
Great sunny Sunday morning here in Connecticut . . . waking up to Pete cheesecake & hot coffee . . . What could be better 👍inhaling more Craigslist Hunter knowledge. It's gonna be a good day . . . As always tfs Piotr and keep 'em comin' . . twoje zdrowie ✌
What websites would you use?
Ronnie is still active. Just curious.
@Lafe Denton Well, he did do a meet up a year or so back with other sellers and plans on another (recently said as much)...so make of that what you will.
