You just listened to one of the best rock bands ever. On the same level as Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. If you like it you'll start to get into another world. Tool is tribal. Tool is cinema for your ears. Tool is hypnothic. Tool definitively is addictive. They never left me in over 20 years. Changed my life. I'm not kidding. Enjoy!
Tool is the greatest band of all time. No one has their level of musicianship, time signatures, and lyrics combined so its hard to categorize them. They are underrated because they don't make the radio with songs with this length. If you edit and cut the song down it ruins the composition and development needed to express the message. You can literally close your eyes and pick a song of theirs and it will be a good one. Keep up the reactions to Tool please and welcome to the family.
Welcome to the coolest rabbit hole in music. Listen, feel, explore. The Army is coming. Start now with “The Pot” and “46-2”. See where to go from there
Great reaction. Definitely get into more Tool. Might take a bit of time to completely hook you, but am confident you're gonna love the journey. You'll get plenty of suggestions from the Tool army and I'll throw one in for fun. "Descending" off their latest album. cheers ✌🏼
All it takes is one song! Appreciate the mastery and complexity of what you just heard! Hooked for life!! They are unlike anything you've ever heard and time signatures? LOL yea keep listening!
Sober, The Grudge, Vicarious, The Pot, Right in Two and Pneuma are great Tool songs to dip your toes into. They’re sort of gateway Tool songs. Some of their slightly more mainstream sounding songs. I love all their music, but those are good starter songs for beginner Tool listeners. Lateralus is probably their “piece de resistance”. No matter what songs you choose to listen to and/or react to, you can’t go wrong with Tool. They’re legendary. Great reaction to a great song.
A few of my fav Tool songs are, Sober, and Pneuma. Also, Forty Six and 2, and Schism. Ohh and The Pot. I could go on and on, one of my favorite bands !
I love how the song builds up, then goes straight back down to build it back up again taking it every time further and further in an outward spiral. Years later, I still love it.
Oh to have Lateralus be my introduction to Tool. Always great seeing someone hear them for the first time and swing on the spiral that is their discography. If you want some insight to how good their drummer is, watch the Pneuma Drum Cam video.
Lateralus: lateral thinking. This song is more intricate than I could possibly convey, the structure and mathematics are genius: I have no doubt people will listen to Tool for centuries. There is a video called "How Tool Used Math to Create "Lateralus" I highly recommend and recommend being high. Spiral out.
Yeah ! You just heard a very Deep Epic Piece of music by one of the Mist incredible Bands Ever !! That song was based on a mathematical scale , “ Fibonacci sequence “ , and the lyrics coincide with the mathematical equation “ Spiral Out “ which Maynard is saying in this precious life, experience it to the fullest, !! This song has brought me out of depression on many occasions.. absolutely Epic song writing to say the least . Like all of the Epic TOOL songs through the 30 years that they have been in existence, ; you have just touched the surface.. # TOOLARMY
Nice reaction, the audio was not great on this side. Not sure if that’s something you can fix. Please do more tool, ease your way in. You will find that this is one of the most talented and under rated bands of all time. If you like lyrics, make sure to have them with you. The lyricism that Maynard brings to the table are so deep that my head almost can’t take it. For example this song you just reacted to is based on the Fibinocci Sequence. You should look it up, but the lyrics also echo that when he starts to talk about swinging on the spirals. Next songs to try… 46 &2 , the pot, schism, pneuma. Also fair warning, do not watch the music videos, i personally can’t stand them and they are very distracting from the music. Stick with lyric videos.
Nice to see a new Tool listener! What you experienced is epic magnificence. Several people have suggested more songs for you. Take a look at the drum cam video of the song Pnuema. You will get to see how amazing Danny Carey is on the drums.
What a excellent reaction, you have captured much of the essence of Tool in the first listen!! Glad to see you enjoyed the song and when you give Tool more time you are in for some great experiences. Enjoy the ride. They have many beautifully crafted songs which take you on a journey. I would recommend a tour of each Tool album might contain the following songs: - Sober - forty six and two - Parabol/Parabola (this to me is one composition) - Vicarious - Descending
The first time I heard tool, was this song, while on acid at a friends house…. The intro seemed like it played for 30 minutes before the song opened up. That was 20 years ago. They have been my all time favorite band ever since.
agree with comments below. They are the best ever. I'm 58 and have listened to every band, nobody really comes close. P.F. and Zep are close. But Nobody writes Lyrics like Maynard. I think you have the brain to get Tool. Keep listening and read the lyrics.
I scanned a bunch of comments didn’t really see anything about it but you really should have the lyrics up for each song you do. I highly recommend you dont listen to any of their more recent music first. Start with Opiate do a couple songs, then Undertow and so on and so forth. Tool has a clear progression with their music from album to album
Tool members are good friends with the artist Alex Grey who is responsible for much of the band's artwork along with guitarist Adam Jones. Alex's career as a visual artist got started decades ago when he did illustrations for anatomy textbooks and the like. He's incorporated human anatomy into much of his artwork ever since. As for their musicianship, I like to think of it as any instrument (including vocals) can be playing what we'd typically consider a rhythm part or a solo part at any given time in any song. So you might hear the guitar playing rhythm while the percussion is soloing on top of it, for instance. Not what we're used to hearing so it can be a mindfuck at first. Throw in polyrhythm/polymeter on top of that and you get a unique musical experience. Next year will mark my 30th year as a Tool fan and I've never tired of them.
I always thought "Black and white are all I see in my infancy, red and yellow then came to be reaching out to me, lets me see" is referring to how when you're young, you see the world as absolutes...that is you don't notice the intricacies and details of things until you get older, and then you can differentiate through the world.
Alex Grey is the cover artist. He’s done multiple album covers and other artwork for them. He’s an absolutely incredible artist. Definitely google some of his work if you get the chance. Tool is one of the best bands. Ever.
Since you asked. Yes It is a big deal and a crime that you have never listened to Tool before. Your punishment is also a gift. The gift of hearing Tool for the first time. Welcome soon to be Tool fan. Just starting the video now, dont even know your reaction. But I already know the outcome! CHEERS!
The first time I listened to this song I wasn’t to big into heavy metal either other than Metallica but I absolutely loved parts to the song it always intrigued me! Nice reaction bro.Very brave to pick Lateralus first lol .That’s a song you would have to work up to.It’s all about getting use to their sound first and to understand how they put their music together. It’s a ride not just something you can listen and tap your foot to.You have to actually have to give it your full attention.Great reaction though!Very genuine!By the way….every song they have is a masterpiece. You won’t find a bad song “Tool-The Pot” next please
If you are new to your journey of metal music at all or if it's something that you were hesitant about... whoever suggested this to be your first song, just threw you in at college-level exams. Try the pot next it is very palatable and I think you will enjoy it

Tool are true progressive music... they toe the line between rock and metal but their songs are almost impossible to headbang to they always represent a musical journey, in the sense where the beginning looks nothing like the middle and even less like the end, and everything along the way was so seamless and spectacular you honestly feel like you've had an transcendental experience of time and space... But then again we are pattern seeking beasts whether we're conscious of it or not it'll have a instinctual effect on our psyche. For this song is heavily based on the Fibonacci Sequence which essentially a spiral it contains Pi and is known as the "Golden Ratio" and considering the fact that we as a species that are so visceral when it comes to recognizing patterns either consciously or subconsciously, we are instinctually obligated to like this song...

Black then White are all I see, then red and yellow came to be could represent the way human race was able to think after encountering other cultures for the first time. Embrace my desire to... this represents the current shift to a progressive future. Then we get to climax which is Maynard is describing the next step in our evolution and become the alien species we've been warning ourselves about...
It's actually a reference to the order in which we evolved to see different colors. Black and white first, then red to spot venomous snakes, then yellow to judge when fruit was ripe. Blue last.
Their songs take you on a journey. Maybe don't pause the song so much. That way you can really experience it the way it was intended. Especially if it's your first time ever hearing them. And save the commentary till after you have absorbed the entire song.

No one have Their musicianship? Ok dude relax
@@viking_nor yeah that was a bit cap but they are one of a kind lol ill give them that
This 👍💯
A little over the top with “no one has their musicianship”. I LOVE Tool, but you may need to check out some other bands.
Dream Theater and old-school Fates Warning were pretty complete
They’ve been around for over 30 yrs. Their songs are no “nod” to anyone else. They’re as original as it gets.
Welcome to the coolest rabbit hole in music. Listen, feel, explore. The Army is coming. Start now with “The Pot” and “46-2”. See where to go from there
Just wait until you understand the fibonnaci sequence influence on this song; brilliant composition.
Fucking A
Great reaction. Definitely get into more Tool. Might take a bit of time to completely hook you, but am confident you're gonna love the journey. You'll get plenty of suggestions from the Tool army and I'll throw one in for fun. "Descending" off their latest album. cheers ✌🏼

9 minute song and you didn't want it to end . Welcome to Tool homie .
Spiral out
Keep going!!!
Forty six & 2 is an amazing song. The Grudge or Aenima are also 2 great tracks. But remember only do audio only. No videos, trust me.
I say that to everyone! I won't even let them read the lyrics on first listening.
I love how the song builds up, then goes straight back down to build it back up again taking it every time further and further in an outward spiral. Years later, I still love it.
Daaaaamn you picked a great place to start. Looking forward to spiraling out with you
You jumped right into their expert level listening experience. Probably weren’t ready for that.
Oh to have Lateralus be my introduction to Tool. Always great seeing someone hear them for the first time and swing on the spiral that is their discography. If you want some insight to how good their drummer is, watch the Pneuma Drum Cam video.

Really? Audio wasn't bad on my end... Just no bass
@@Soljarag5 yea, that’s what I noticed as well. The song has a lot more depth than what I heard
really bad mix in the tune, not sure if just the levels or compression. his mic is clear

That change up at 11:35 is soooo siiiick! And I have heard it probably a thousand times.
When the bass drops I get a chill up my entire spine....every time

Tool isn’t classified as anything other than TOOL
Yes dude, all of the lateral things, you got it.👍 Cool reaction. Next I suggest The Pot or Schism.
I love how you (unknowingly) and perfectly described what Tool is as an experience before you even listened
Thank Alex Grey for the album art

You have awakened the Tool Army, we will be your Shaman on your trip down the rabbit hole, spiral out brother, keep going
Choose to live how TOOL preach, I love this band so much, the dead weight of life falls away, leaving joy of the human experience, spiral out.
When you discover the amount of work and the meaning of this song, it's always shocking.

“Tool-The Pot” next please
H. Off of Aenima is my top Tool song. That isn't saying the rest is bad. Tool is probably the only band I don't skip over songs.
If you are new to your journey of metal music at all or if it's something that you were hesitant about... whoever suggested this to be your first song, just threw you in at college-level exams. Try the pot next it is very palatable and I think you will enjoy it
#Schism would be a great second song. Same album.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind
Welcome to Tool. Great starting song.
Yeah! Tool you should listen to them
Tool doesn’t have one “bad” song! 🍻
Mind blowing if you think about that. All bands have clunkers and bad songs. But for 30 years not a one bad song on their catalog. Fillers and transition pieces not included.
@@tonysoto8949 agreed! 🍻
The time signature is the Fibonacci code.
"Swing on the spiral"
Lateralus is definitely jumping in with both feet. Try 46 and 2 or The Pot, kind of the shallower end of the Tool Pool at least from an ease of listening perspective. At some point you really should do Parabol and Parabola.. .just make sure you do them together and let the transition between them ride. . .
Dammmmn. Lateralus as your first foray into the ether of Tool. 9:24 is not long for Tool. About average. You should listen to it with the lyrics now. Once you hear what is being sung it definitely has a big hit.

Great analogies there. Thanks for your comment 🤙
TOOL don't play music to listen to, they play music to experience.

Welcome to the spiral. Please keep your seat belt on. And your trays in their locked upright position.

we want metal and rock moreeeee...
I think they are technically prog rock, but I would defend anyone calling them metal. They have a trained octopus that summons spirits with magic symbols on the drums... That's among the most metal things I've ever heard.
