Umm.. How can you leave the great Catalina Ponor out of this video. Her dismount during 2004 Olympics got enormous praise for difficulty, power, & confidence.

Exactly. You can't make a best beam video without some Ponor. I mean that's COMMON SENSE OLMYPIC CHANNEL. who made this and whoever did should be fired for doing a poor job and not even trying. And their boss should also be fired for not realizing how poorly inaccurate this video is.
Rainer you can make a best bean DISMOUNT video without ponor. Her beam routine was wonderful but her double pike was less than average and her full in was atrocious
I dont think we are talking about the same dismount then. 2004. Athens. Beam final. Bbbbbblack leotard. Stuck and won gold. Even Tim was wowed with this oh my reaction. In my opinion it's up there in the top ten for sure. And a lot of others seem to wonder why Ponor was left out of this video

Not sure why Shaposhnikova is here. Her dismount doesn’t make her less of a great gymnast, but that double tuck is not only one of the easier dismounts, but also poorly executed.
Yeah, I didn't understand that one either. Was she one of the first to do double-back dismounts? That's the only reason I could see including this despite the execution errors.
She was among the first to do that dismount.

It is there because of the impact it had in gymnastics. It was one of the first double back dismounts in a time when a double twist was the most difficult dismount executed of wooden solid beams with no spring.

I agree with you. Some are nice, but the one at 1:53, when the girl lands with her almost between her knees is definitely NOT a great landing, which is part of the dismount.

Shaposnikova's dismount is one of the worst I've seen. Badly cowboyed, low chest on landing, at least two steps back.
Shaposnikovas dismount was a very old forerunner in history , no comparison with all the other young ladies dismount in this video , but anyway.... Still in history NADIE COMO NADIA
Mukhina did it much better than Shaposhnikova. Zakharova, that same Olympic year 1980, had the best dismount in the Soviet team.
Not to mention Emilia Eberle who did a double pike regularly in 1979 and 1980.
Please,, it’s there because of the impact it had in the progression of gymnastics. Many of the skills you see today were done 40 years ago in primitive equipment and with no springs or sufficient padding.
Yes the execution was not nice, but she affected modern gymnastics in a very profound way! Back then this dismount was very innovative

Gymnastics 101: stuck landings. Only Carly Patterson and Yelena Produnova actually stuck their landings. The rest did not, and many had their chests down low. Chest high and absolutely no movement of the feet = stuck landings.
Love these type of videos So much, beam dismount are one of my favourite things to do at practice because beam is my favourite event but tumbling is the most fun, so put the 2 together and you got a beam dismount 😁

It may have been the first double back off beam? But I agree--in many instances this poster didn't choose the best examples of the dismounts featured, sometimes not even the best example from the same gymnast. Take Khorkina...she nailed her cartwheel gainer 2 1/2 twist all the time. Just not in the video shown.

“Best” means “STUCK”.
Form and difficulty should be taken into account as well. But this video was still terrible.
Liu Xuan performed one of the most gorgeous double tucks to win her gold medal in 2000. That should be in this list in my opinion.

*This list was garbage and here's why:*
#10 had flexed feet, pike down, and a hop
#9 had leg separation on landing and a hope
#8 had leg cross, slight under rotation, and a hop
#7 had flexed feet, low chest on the landing, and a little step
#6 had a horrible cowboy tuck, a super low chest, and a hop
#5 had flexed feet, leg separation in flight and on landing, low chest, and a hop
#4 had a significant step but wasn't too bad
#3 had one of my favorite dismount combos but this performance had flexed feet, a low chest, and a little step
#2 had a bit of a cowboy tuck and what could potentially be counted as an arm swing. This deserves to be on the list but not at #2
#1 had its little flaws but it should definitely be in the top 3
While none of these are really bad dismounts, there have probably been more better ones at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics alone. And so many great ones from even the same Olympics used in the videos were left out. Terrible.

Khorkina had some better dismounts
Best one in this list: 2:35 Tatiana Gutsu. She makes 4 backflips on the beam with increased speed before the dismount. Then 4 more flips on dismount with perfect low altitude landing. 8 flips total without pause. Extremely difficult.

Eremia had her legs bent and crossed in her dismount, Tatiana Gutsu only stuck ONE foot. Produnova had a better landing and form as did Carly.

With the exception of Shannon & maybe 1 more, barely any of these would qualify as best dismounts. Best dismounts means sticking the landing.

This video is a mess in ways that have already been stated, but I'll start by saying that if they were going to choose Khorkina's gainer 2½ from Athens 2004, they should have used the one she competed in the team final.
Yelena Produnova is the queen of double front tucks on every apparatus and Svetlana Khorkina is the queen of Gainers on Balance Beam

I know I am going to get this girl’s name wrong but here goes. Where was Kerry Strug. She did it on one ankle. It was just a marvelous thing. I haven’t forgotten that yet and i’m 73. Most of these girls looked so glum. I hope their lives are happy now. Thanks for thr tape.

NOT EVEN.... hops, jumps, shuffling feet, heels clicking together well after landing and no they didn't say "There's no place like home" 3 excellent dismounts...Nastia had a GREAT dismount in her All-Around win of 2008. Nadia had two perfect beam dismounts in 1976 (team and all-around) Moceanu stuck her dismounts in 1996, Dawes had a perfect beam dismount in the all-around in 1996, Just look at a few videos and you'll find athletes from nearly every country performing perfect dismounts at the Olympics, where their feet hit the mat and do not budge....

How can they not have Simone bikes landings up there at least once but I just seen at least 3 people do techniques that they didn't even stick the landing. How is that the best when they can even stick the landing? And I'm sure Simone biles has done a difficult enough ending.
Simone Biles' double double dismount is the most difficult in the world (the only H value in balance beam).

their form, if their are twisting they do not cross their legs and keep their legs straight, toes pointed, for a double salto with the knees bent then the knees should not be far apart ( it is called cowboyed) and nobody should take a step or even the smallest of hops and their chest should be up, not hunkered over their feet, feet should be together.

What I love is that the most recent is from 2012. While I love Simone her entrance into her dismount is basic. I love old school gymnastics I would love to see girls do these dismounts today no matter what country bring a little old back into the sport that has become more and more about flying and daring tricks
