    @Miss Event Planner you are phenomenal. Since early am, I have viewed a few of your videos. I had to subscribe. Superb videos and very informative! You are one of those professors I do not mind attending their classes. I've solely given Family reunions (decor & all) 3 times now and setup popup tables for a friend. For 3 years I've been collecting decor inventory that a small bedroom is filled with boxes and bins of decor items. Haven't gotten my feet wet; as I'm looking forward to retirement soon and desire to swing into this. I have business cards, few photos, no website, and do not drive. One of my issues were with transporting to venue and back. Hoping you are Family are safe during this Pandemic.

    Love your videos! I am wanting to start up my own event planning business focusing on smaller scale bridal and baby showers. I wanted to offer two options: full service and event decor/styling and pricing is so hard to figure out as you said! For the full service, if I’m booking venues and using other vendors as well as providing decor and styling, do you have any recommendations on how to charge for that? Do they give me a budget for the whole event and I take a %? Any insight would be great! Thanks for your videos!

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  6 лет назад +10

      I will definitely write that one down! I think that's a good video topic as well! What I wear...oh gosh...I actually work my events, so I wear what the rest of my team wears lol We work hard, we lift, set-up, entertain, and clean up. So usually we dress comfortably and in all black so we look somewhat uniform. We've went through so many uniform changes since I started the business and that just seems to work the best for what we do for my parties. I had printed shirts made up in the beginning, but I didn't like how we looked in them then. I need to get some more printed up, as I think that's the best option, but this time investing in a little better quality shirts. That was my mistake in the beginning, they looked so cheap, and in my opinion unprofessional because of the quality. I am so happy for you that you are getting out there, that's all it takes, you just have to start! I wish you all the best Lisa!! ❤️

You are truly a blessing because I learned a lot just from those 3 videos. I have just 1 question, I am just trying to start my own business but I use to do this type of work to make a little side money back home but when I moved to Las Vegas 7yrs ago it was a big culture shock for me and I just need to know to get my business off the ground do you think I should setup a party for my 1st client and under charge just to show my skills but explain to them that I normally don't charge this etc etc?

  • @wunmilovesu
    @wunmilovesu 6 лет назад +2

    Thank you for this video! I've been bing watching your videos lately and they have been so helpful as I'm trying to figure out how to start my event planning business. I have a question, I don't think I'm creative enough to be an event decorator and I have $0 to buy decor materials but i do enjoy event planning. As a beginner, do you think its better to include event decoration in my package or just strictly planning. I'm scared no one will book me since i wont offer any decorations like most event planners do. I feel like most event planners now are actually event decorators but throw in some planning for the package. What do you advice?

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  6 лет назад +2

      Aww I'm so glad you're finding them useful and congratulations on starting your event planning business! That's a great question. I would say no. I think it is very attractive to clients, planners that offer decor and such, but I think that depends mostly on the type of events and clientele you're targeting. For me I target parents, parents want parties that are fun for their kids, easy to book, and looks good to impress their guests for the most part. So, me offering party planning that is all inclusive, with decor to make it look good, and pre-set easy to book packages with fun themes makes sense. Now, I don't think a wedding client or corporate client would expect me to provide decor, see what I mean?
      I wouldn't suggest you thrusting yourself into an area of business you're not comfortable with or probably don't even want to do because in the end you won't be truly happy. I suggest you carve out your own personal niche of being the event planner or "coordinator" that you want to be. I think you are right too about that point! Most I feel are event decorators too and throw in some planning like you said, for instance me kinda lol. I think everyone just uses the term event planner because that's the term all clients really use. It would really be great if we could re-educate the people so they know the difference.
      I would suggest if you like the "planning" aspect, write out what all you like to do and want to be in charge of so you know exactly the kind of business you want to create. Some people specialize in month of planning for brides that are doing it themselves but need guidance. Some specialize in day of coordinating, so that they don't actually have to handle everything the day of their wedding. There's a great need for these type of "planners" since this is the day and age of the DIY everything trend! I personally would use a service like that. I'm a party planner and would plan my own events, but would want someone to oversee whats going on the month of or day of so that I could enjoy my event. If you don't feel you have that creative bug, try targeting corporate business planning (planning conferences, retreats, team building events, and such). You'd probably make more money even because of the bigger budgets. Good luck to you, thanks for watching! :)

    • @wunmilovesu
      @wunmilovesu 6 лет назад

      Gosh, you are amazing! Thank you for the timely and detailed response. I really appreciate it. The "month of" and "day of" coordinator is a really good idea and the perfect fit for me, I'm just not sure who will trust me with their wedding as a beginner since there's really nothing i can show them to prove I'm capable for the job.

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  6 лет назад +1

      You may have to volunteer at first, use friends/family events, or offer some services for very reduced prices (only in the beginning.) Maybe not weddings at first, try coordinating smaller events then work up, birthday parties, church events, community events, etc. and ask for reviews, reviews, reviews. Reviews and testimonials will be the key to your niches success. Make a Yelp and Google page for yourself and any and every event your apart of ask for reviews from everyone. Still make yourself a professional looking website though, and if you need to use stock photography until you get your own photos! Best wishes!

    ah! thank you! I'm having a mid 50's life crisis and Ive always ALWAYS wanted to start my own party decorating business (or something along the lines of) I grew up with parents who always told me to be realistic about my career choices and 3..4 career paths later I'm finally putting my foot down and trying to do what I've always wanted... I think I need help with just overcoming the perception that this path is not realistic. I know it takes alot of work but what would you advise for a middle class family, not looking to be filthy rich - just really hoping to enjoy and love what I do which is party decorating. Hope that made sense if not then just know I learned alot from this video. Thank you so much xx

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  5 лет назад +2

      You are not the only one! I hear countless stories of those who are looking to change careers at different stages in their life. I'm glad to hear that you have mustered up the courage to step into what truly makes you happy, even if it's just getting your feet wet!...
      Well, what I would advise for your particular situation is first, don't quit your day job like they say. It may take a few years to get this thing going. Some people have quicker success than others of course, but like I say to everyone go after what success and happiness is to you! Some people want a fully booked calendar. Some people use it as a creative outlet and want one party every couple of months. Some want to be a rich and famous celebrity/luxury planner, and others just want it to save a little extra money for their children's college fund or vacation. I love that you are clear on your financial and personal goals for your dreams. Also, that you are realistic.
      I'd first start doing events on the weekend around the job you have currently. Take the first 6 months to a year to build your website, get your cards, do your mock shoots, start telling your friends and family about your business venture. If any of them say anything negative, please ignore. If you know somebody will discourage you, you can leave them out of the announcement lol .....During this time get your feet wet. Try to book smaller events, volunteer to decorate friends or family members upcoming engagements (using their budget) and build your portfolio. Over this time you'll start to see a niche you probably prefer or an element of planning or decorating you are more interested in. (For instance, weddings or children's events. Maybe it's just doing treat tables. Maybe you find you can make the treats as well? Voila! You discover your specialty, once you do I like to niche off at first for greater profits and the ability to stand out in search. Once you've started to get the hang of everything I'd start to do some local fairs, adding in some paid advertisement, and really starting to push your business to start growing and making more income. One of the key things I would say for sure though, is make sure you decide on a niche that makes sense for your schedule and the amount of money you'd like to make. For instance, children's parties can often have lower budgets, than say weddings. So you may have to plan more parties per year to make the income you want. Or maybe you have to do luxury children's events...Say you only want to do a few events per year, maybe luxury events is your goal or being a corporate planner. So just always keep that in mind! Best wishes!

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  6 лет назад

      Thank you!! That's a good question I will try to do a video about what to wear. I do events with 2-3 other helpers depending on the size of the event. I have had a long trial and error experience with uniforms for my business. As of now we wear all black, comfortable bottoms like nice solid work out pants because we do a lot of lifting and bending down to play with kids. We also wear plain black short or long sleeve t-shirts. I need to get new specific ones with my logo on it that I had awhile back. I stopped using them because they looked cheap to me, but now I know it's just because I needed to invest in a higher quality T-shirt. We wear black shoes, I wear nice looking workout shoes because we haul from the car to the party space and set-up and it's the most comfortable. Then we wear an all black apron to hold scissors, hair ties, n such as we do crafts and beauty services on the children. So our uniform makes sense for our business. If I was a wedding planner I wouldn't wear what I wear to the children's events of course! So it all really depends on your clientele and what duties you'll be responsible for. :)

      Hi Tammie, of course and thanks so much for the suggestion! I always appreciate input. I headed over to Keep Calm and Clean's channel, and she has a very nice channel, but also very different content. She has a lot of different clips, angles, and such which keeps a video exciting to watch and holds viewer attention, so it's okay if the music stops a little bit for her to talk. My EP videos on the other hand are more information driven and unfortunately that's automatically less entertaining, because it's just me sitting and talking from one angle that's it. If I turned the music completely off when I'm talking most would complain the video was flat and boring. I think the music could be a little lower in this one though I agree which I think would've helped! My camera was beeping in the first half of it, you can hear a ringing sound. I was trying to cover with the music which I'm thinking maybe made it worse. I do appreciate your recommendations and will definitely take it into consideration for future videos. My hubs will be helping with sound for most of the vids from now on, he's better at it than me, so it should improve for the most part from here on out! Thanks again for watching! ❤

    I have a question when you said say an event planner around you is changing 500 dollars so do the same, in that 500 dollars will I have to get supplies to make the centerpieces or decorate the table excetera or will they have to give me money for supplies as well?

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  5 лет назад

      Hi Tierra, the amount I threw out was totally at random, what I mean mostly is to make sure you’re competitively priced. If you research planners in your area you’ll notice there’s a similar starting price for services. I mean make sure you stay around the market price in the beginning. Once you’ve gained experience and credibility you can charge at your will if your clients are willing to pay your rate.
      So event planning and event decorating are technically different, but lots of people merge the terms together these days and do both, like myself....$500 for an “event planner” would be planning only and wouldn’t include decorating at all. So the entire fee would go to you....If you’re a decorator too, then that $500 could either be your “decorating fee” and you can require an additional decorating budget on top of it......or you can have a flat rate package for smaller events it could be all inclusive for the $500. It’s completely up to you..and would depend on the level of budgets you’re working with, client expectations, the size of the party, what decorating elements are being requested.
      That’s why pricing can be so complicated! If you were trying to “decorate” a 100 guest wedding $500 flat rate would be ridiculous, but if you were “planning” a very simple 100 guest wedding it may make sense for you. Alternatively if you were “decorating” just the main cake table (no treats), then $500 flat rate would be totally doable. 💕

  • @Frmcecewitluv
    @Frmcecewitluv 3 года назад +1

    Very imperative information.
    So when charging a flat fee, does that money cover expenses for decoration AND your profit from the event?
    Or is it best to have a separate budget for purchasing what’s needed and having them pay for your services. That’s where I need help. 😩

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  3 года назад +4

      Yes, for my business it does. I charge a flat fee for a set pre-set package (which I already own pretty much everything for). Any add-ons the client wants to do above my already set package there I charge an additional fee. My profits are baked in and my labor and expense costs are relatively low. However that works well for my business, as I’m doing smaller children’s events.
      So in the beginning I think packages are the best route, because 1. It’s easy for clients to make a decision 2. You continue to get booked for the same package as you build inventory for those packages, the expenses get lower and lower 3. You don’t have to fumble around with pricing, it’s easier to stay firm, as sometimes clients try to negotiate or feel some type of way about your “planner fee”...in a package they don’t know where the money is going, so my profits can be whatever I choose from that price. However, it’s my responsibility to stay on budget or it will decrease my profits.
      Alternatively, you can charge your fee, and then work off the rest of the clients budget separately. That’s nice because you will always know what you’re making off of an event. However, imagine in the beginning (because usually you’ll start with lower budget clients).....say my client had a $600 budget and my planner fee was $400. A client might be like 😳...But if I showed them a set package of things I already owned and said you can have all this for the $600 package..then I only have to bring that and I can still take my $400 as long I provided what I showed them in the package. 💕

      @@BashBesties thank you so much for the information! I had someone reach out to me a week before their event; I quoted my starting price at $200. Within the $200, that was going to be my decorating fee AND decor (I knew I was short changing myself). They wanted a specific theme that I did not have in my inventory. I mentioned if they wanted to move forward with the date, there was going to be a $50 deposit and to let me know how they would like proceed.
      Flash forward, they decided to go with someone else. To me, $200 was a steal!

    How do you determine your flat fee? Is it something that you can do after you have built up your inventory?

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  2 года назад

      Hello Stephanie, I like to base my “planner fee” on how much money I need or want to make per party to meet a certain income goal, while keeping in mind the avg. market pricing for similar services that meet the same quality I offer and my experience. I would then take the amount in need to make per party and that is used as my starting price…and then it goes up depending on client party requests or what’s in my package.
      However, I base my decor package prices fees on the cost to produce package + my profit margin.
      You can determine your fee before you have inventory as well. It just depends on what services you are offering. If you’re an event planner you can determine your fee upfront, where as if you’re a decorator you’ll need inventory to figure out pricing if you offer decor packages.

      I think it all depends on how many hours she’s having you for and the amount of guests for the party. Cleaning up for 30 guests vs 100 is going to be a big difference in the amount of work. If it’s from party prep to clean up, $150 for 6 hours for helping out a friend wouldn’t be too bad. If she wants you for 2-3 I’d probably want a little more than $50-75 for such duties. I’d personally raise my rate if I were doing it for clients for sure. 💕

    I purchased the other guide and it was worth it because there are things I didn't think about when starting my event planning business. I have a quick question: Have you ever did mock setups to promote what you can offer when you first started out? And if you did, how often should I do mock setups...especially in the beginning stages of starting my business? I know in your other video you mentioned that you used your nieces (I believe) to show your spa-day setups.

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  6 лет назад +1

      So happy to hear! Yes there's a lot of little things we often overlook in the beginning, I know I did! Lol I'm glad you are getting use out of it, I'd love to hear what areas you found most useful?! Yes, I absolutely did mock setups, and I recommend doing them as many as possible. It's all practice and work for your portfolio at the end of the day! I did them at first as needed and I still do them to this day, just not as often of course. So, like you mentioned if I needed a spa party picture for my website, I would do a spa party mock set-up and photoshoot. When I added new themes, I did shoots to promote them to my clients. Visuals are everything, my pictures 100% are the selling feature for my business. For example, I offer about 7 themes on my website. In the beginning, I did mock set ups for all of them. I have one new theme that I've never done a mock setup for (a mermaid theme.) I was being lazy and just posted a generic pic of these costumes I bought for it, and literally no one has ever requested that theme lol Its the only one out of all of them. Visuals are everything! Getting event planning clients is in the simplest form about your portfolio, photos, photos, and more great photos!

      OMG!!! WHERE DO I BEGIN?!?! Well since I'm in the beginning stages of "Researching and Brainstorming", I have definitely created a Business Binder (with your PDF file in a tab called "Resources"). I absolutely love the "Idea Journal" (who would've thought I would have so many ideas outside of researching...sometimes I'm shopping and a idea would come up). I also LOVE LOVE LOVE "Business Aspiration File" which is why I'm definitely buying this doc because it's so useful to know what a successful business looks like in my field and aspire to have something similar and more!!! Thank you for spending time and writing back. There aren't many channels out there about event planning and if there is, it's soooooo boring (lol)! I'm so glad I'm on the right track when it comes to coming up with mock setups. Do you recommend a place/website that sells linens for a decent price?

I'd love to use it and feature you! You can send me your business details too so I can credit you.
      Yes, the idea Journal!! I was laughing to my husband yesterday saying you know I really practice what I preach. I've been relaunching my business website so my notebooks have been glued to my hands all week lol He says I know those things are everywhere, in the car, on the table, in the bed! 😂 Yes, especially when you're shopping you get the most creative ideas, if you keep one in your purse, you can easily jot down all that genius!
      lol I sometimes struggle with whether I should switch my channel over to a more serious style, because I fear some won't think I'm a real and credible event planner. But I feel like you're right, that's how every other event planning channel is, so I like that mine is more light-hearted and down to earth. I'm glad you enjoy it too!
      I have access to the fashion district in Los Angeles where I get all mine, but maybe I can do a video on my vendor suggestions soon. Really Amazon has pretty good prices these days. I love the free shipping, and that you can get it in a few days too especially if you're in a pinch!

    Hi, in another video. You said you started with investing zero dollars. Did you charge clients how much everything cost and then your separate labor fee?

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  4 года назад +1

      Hi, in the beginning I started with my camera and my laptop that I already owned and a free website. At that time I wasn’t charging correctly at all! It’s a mistake most new planners make coming into the field. I had preset packages and I just made up random prices I thought sounded right and people would be willing to pay in the beginning. I quickly learned I wasn’t making anything at all. So I raised my prices with every event.
      Now I have preset packages still, but pricing is way higher. I have most items I need in my inventory so my expense per party is low. Add-one are an additional charge and I bake my “planner fee” into the total package cost. Depending on your type of clientele and niche this pricing method may or may not work well for your specific business.

      Miss Event Planner thank you for responding... I’m enjoying all of your videos right now. I have a question since you say you offer packages do you do the same setup for all of your clients?

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  6 лет назад +3

      Hi Evelyn, yes and no! I have a similar set-up for each event, yes. For instance, I would bring one table for every 10 guests and the same type of chairs as I supply them from my personal stock and a backdrop. This way people actually prefer because it's all wrapped up in one all inclusive package with decor and entertainment, and I make more money per party by not having to use a rental company. If someone wanted to do a different style of chairs and tables they'd have to rent those themselves. Each package has a theme, so "paint party" is one. Therefore, every paint party would look similar in set-up, but I give my clients options to choose colors and I try to buy new decor or switch up decor as much as I can within the realm of what I have to provide in the package. Like if I have a paint party, I have to have easels and canvas, but I may change the placemat color, or paint the ends of the paintbrushes so every party is a little different. So, in all every party has the same "set-up", but not the same exact decor all the time if that makes any sense. Thanks for watching!

      Yes, that's a great niche! I've had some of my higher end clients pay just as much for the dessert table as they did for us to set-up and entertain the party :/. So, you can definitely make a lot of money in that area, and I think if you do have pre-set packages or even tablescape themes, it'll be less stress on you and easier for most clients to book with set options.

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  2 года назад

      That’s a good problem to have actually! 😊...So you can either charge by the hour, flat fee, or commission. Or a combination of both...since the budget is likely to get up there with unlimited funds. I’d charge probably charge a flat rate plus commission on vendors or a commission on the overall budget over a certain amount. Usually around 10-20% of the budget depending on your skill level.
      First before figuring out what to charge, you should make sure to figure out what all they want for the event and what they expect you to handle. Then you can charge accordingly. Don’t come in low either because you know they have the funds, and don’t forget about little charges that arise. Gas, travel, hiring out staff that all adds up and should be charged separately from your planning/design fee. 💕

For example: rentals like couples Sofa, balloon gardlands, treats, back drops if its a kids party ( kids tables and chairs and bouncy house).. if these add ons are all from other VENDORS how do I now charge a client for my services and incorporating what they want for their event??
    2) Should I already assume what my vendor partners are charging and just do everything as one whole package? For example package 1 $1,025 comes with Main area set up, back drop, treats, 1 balloon garland, etc please Helpp! Setting a planner fee flat rate is not the hard part the confusing part is when other rental vendors come into play . Also these prices would go on the invoice right

      My decor pre-priced packages incorporate my minimum “planner fee” and anything included as a rental, that is ALREADY in my inventory or something I know the price of if in needed to outsource to another vendor (like a name sign).
      Anything on top of that I can’t provide, I charge as an add-on. Vendor add-ons are subject to a vendor handling fee or vendor service fee. Some people will charge like 15% on the total vendor costs on top of your planner fee since you’re conversing with them and having to deal with other companies, etc.
      So you would have your planner fee, your rentals fee, your gas, time, labor etc. fee, the add-ons from the other vendors, plus a vendor service fee.
      I only include in my pre-priced packages what I can already calculate out and have in stock…because other vendors may vary or change prices.
      For instance. I include balloon garlands in my package. If I do my own balloon garlands it’s profitable and I know I won’t need more than probably $200 in supplies. If I have to outsource I lose a lot of profit, as an outside vendor might charge me $500-1000. So if they wanted a crazy custom garland I would charge that as an add-on not include it in my package.

      Yes I send an itemized list of all these prices, EXCEPT if I have it listed on my site as a package. I will just say “Package #1 $1000” on the invoice. I’m not breaking down by line item that package because then they’ll try to pick the package apart…if that makes sense.

      Thank you… just a lil correction i have no inventory or rentals .. i do carry linen and Chargers and napkins
      i just like to outsource everything from other vendors such as balloons, chairs furniture , drapes back drops etc just wanted to know since i like to outsource how do I incorporate the vendors with my flat rate Thank youuuuu ..

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  2 года назад

      So your linens, chargers, napkins you can either price out those items and include them in your package for different amounts of guests. Or you can charge your flat “planner fee”…and charge the linens, etc as a “rental” on separate line items on your invoice.
      If you want to outsource most of the event, but still include the vendor outsourcing into your own flat rate package…I don’t recommend that method just because of vendor variable pricing..
      But if you do you would have to pre-source your vendors and make sure you account for the highest possible amount they may charge for that particular item included in the package. As well as build in your vendor service fee for handling multiple vendors.
      Does that answer your question? Let me know! 😊

    Informative video but whta's with the distracting Bollywood music in the background?

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  5 лет назад

      There's not a whole lot of good music choices in the RUclips Audio Library to begin with and I'd rather not keep using the same ones in every video. No music at all is just way too flat. Making the best with what I have available, thanks so much for watching!

    Please don't overuse editing. It is hard to hear half cut words. Better to have a little more space than cut it roughly.

      Great suggestion and totally agree! It’s not purposely done usually, I often am speaking too fast while filming so I must cut abruptly. I’m still getting used to talking on camera and shooting, so hopefully this will get better as I do it more! I’ll be more mindful of it. Thanks again for your input! 👍🏻

    This was only slightly helpful, because of the income numbers you mentioned. Very important part of what an event planner earns, is how much jobs are nailed down. If you do one a month on average, you're going to make a lot less money, than if you do more than double. It's 'duh', but of course the first rule in making money: get more business.

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  3 года назад

      Hi there, so that’s not necessarily the first rule in my opinion. I would say that in this industry it would be to get the “right” business. More jobs don’t always equate to more money in this field for everyone. It really depends on what kind of event planner you are, your services, and your clientele. There’s some planners that take one to two high budget weddings or corporate events a month and can make the same or more than those doing 3-4 events every weekend. I know of a wedding planner that takes only 3 weddings a year and makes well over $100,000 a year. It’s hard to talk about money and how much jobs because it’s varies deeply from planner to planner. A good way to give people some type of backed concrete information is to share data conducted by government or trusted agencies because they have access to income information that we don’t. 😊

    • @gardenjoy5223
      @gardenjoy5223 3 года назад

      @@BashBesties So let's rephrase it. If you have lots and lots of empty days, you can't make as much money, as if you landed more of the 'right' kind of jobs, to keep you working. Being fruitfully busy for 10 hours a week doesn't pay as well usually as being fruitfully busy for 40 hours a week. It's the beginners, who are most interested in your video, not those that are thus creative and established, that they can ask any price for only three weddings a year.
