I feel like Katniss would be furious with Gale if he volunteered in Peeta's place. I believe this because she needed him to help her mother and Prim while she was in the games. If he died Katniss would also think that it was her fault, and she would loathe herself because he was the breadwinner for his family. She would obviously help Hazel feed Rory, Posy, and Vick, but it would be a lot on her back. She would give a lot of her winnings to his family aswell.
@Hannah Papernick-Yudin I had that same thought. Se did support the district with buying things (especially the white liquor for Haymitch). but I also wonder if there are rules for straight out passing around money and it has to be done under the table.

I personally feel Gale Wouldn't be rebellious during the interviews, mainly because even though he rants about the capitol, he does it in the woods so he doesn't get in trouble with the peacekeepers, doing it in front of the capitol would probably get his family killed for ranting in front of the capitol, mainly because Snow has done it with Haymitch and Johanna.
I feel like gale would’ve tried to play the intimidating character, given that he hates the Capitol. He would let his good looks do the rest. But he would try to intimidate like Thresh did. I feel like they both hate the Capitol.
Kylie Crybaby Yeah for the few days that he was alive between Rue’s death and his death, he probably hated the capitol more than ever after Rue’s death. And maybe him letting Katniss go is a small rebellion, since they weren’t supposed to do that, or at least it rarely happened. (This might have been stated in the books I’m not 100% sure if it was or wasn’t) And he could’ve done it because of how angry he was at that Rue had died.
I feel if gale were to go in the games both Katniss and gale would die. The careers normally after the blood bath go for the most “dangerous” tributes as we see them wanting Katniss dead. They teamed up with Peeta cause he lead them to Katniss and he would be an easy kill so to say. If gale was in the games also Cato and the rest of the careers would definitely want to kill gale and Katniss as soon as possible cause the would be the biggest threats too them. So that’s why I think it’s a not a good idea for gale to be in the games with Katniss the both would come out dead.

I don’t think there would be a rule change as I believe that happened to draw Katniss out into the open in order to find Peeta. I think Gale would have wanted to protect Katniss, ultimately sacrificing himself. I also think Katniss would have been less likely to win as she would never have teamed up with Rue and have therefore the career team would have had the advantage.
If Katniss and Gale went back to district 12 as TRUE star crossed lovers, then that would mean President Snow wouldn't have any real leverage against both of them cuz he doesn't kill anyone without a "good" reason. Cuz the main reason why the 75th hunger games involved past victors was Snow's way of saying "Screw you" to Katniss after she failed to convince him that she was truly in love with Peeta. And President Snow would have his back against the wall because #1 the second rebellion is inevitable #2 he got beat at his own game 😂😂. Cuz two tributes from District 12, the least liked and least skilled district, they him look like the ultimate fool the same way Haymitch did 24 years prior with his forcefield stunt to win his games 😂😂
Snow asking Katniss to be in love with Peeta was just to distract her. It doesn't matter wheter she convinced him she was in love with Peeta or Gale or not, he would still put her back in the arena.
If Gale had been reaped, here's how I think it would have gone down: Gale would have played the bad boy angle, showing his stoic hatred for the capitol but still being exceedingly good-looking he may have made an alliance with Thresh since Rue seems to be showing an interest in Katniss during training, and they have something in common with being from outlying districts and sharing similar political views on the capitol. Also, this alliance would have been good with finding food and increasing survival. Gale would have gotten a high score for his training Gale may have been mistrustful of Haymitche's advice, like Katniss, and may have run into the bloodbath during the games, maybe even to secure the Bow for Katniss and a weapon for himself. Katniss survived half of the games by sleeping in trees, and in the books, Katniss always said Gale wasn't the one who climbed trees on their hunting trips, which means Gale would be stuck on the ground to keep watch or both of them would be on the ground. They would have been targets for the careers, but if they did form an alliance with Thresh and Rue, it might stave off the conflict given that the district 11/12 alliance had intimidating foes that would have received great training scores. given how Gale likes to say what he likes about the Capitol in the woods, the Gamemakers might target him if he says anything bad to ensure he doesn't win the games, thereby putting Katniss at risk as well. Gale would not betray Katniss purposefully and would gladly sacrifice himself if it meant she could win. If katniss did die,(not by Gale's doing) Gale would have tried to win so he could provide for his family and Katniss's, but he would be forever changed by the trauma. He'd still be a revolutionary, but he would definitely have some problems after becoming a victor with both his mental state and with the Capitol.
I know I'm late but I just have to say, you did such an amazing job writing this. And you also had a bunch of smaller details to back up your opinions, I think this is a very accurate repersentation of how it would have played out of gale got reaped/volunteered for the hunger games.
gale would likely get a 9 and probably kill at least one or two carriers he’d stay with katniss to help her but definitely sacrifice himself maybe by jumping off into the dog pile with kato
Also a really interesting question: If they still had won together and catching fire is nearly the same (with Gale taking Peters role) how would that influence the story further? How would everything end with Gale being captured by the capitol? Would the explosion that kills Prim still happen? Would Prim and many others be alive in the first place if Gale were at the 75th games and not there to rescue the when the capitol comes to bomb 12? This scenario would have major influences on the whole series.
Or if haymitches name was drawed, would he even voulenteer and what would happen if he didnt and was mentor whilst haymitch went into the arena? How would the rebel plan work differently?
I think the conflict of wanting to protect each other but also return home to their respective families would havr worked against Katniss and Gale tbh. Peeta and Katnis get split up very early and so can each play to their strengths: Katniss uses her outdoor skills to stay alive and Peeta keeps selling the star-crossed lover-angle to gain viewer sympathy. Gale would have probably wanted to stick with Katniss from the start, and while two strong hunters are at an advantage initially, it might've been stressful for both of them to balance their priorities as the Games progress. Also, I don't think that Gale would have readily played along with the lovers-spiel to appeal to the (capitol) audience, as he (like Katniss) is a closed-off person who doesn't like his feeling being exploited. I think his hatred for the whole event would blind him to socio-strategic planning (which is the element that Peeta excels in).
Without Peeta, the idea of the star crossed lovers would never have been considered, which also results in that the rule change would never have happened. The reason why Katniss was so appealing to the Capitol people in the first movie, was because she was a volunteer and because of what Peeta does at the opening ceremony and interviews. They would not have gotten that much attention from the sponsor and would have died.
They would be a power couple. I do believe that they would’ve found Rue and made a small alliance out of it. Like the original ending of the hunger games, they would’ve been the star cross lovers. Gale is more experienced than Peeta and would have been like Thresh and Cato in skills. I do believe that they would’ve been like Finnick, Katniss, Peeta, and Mags if they went into the 74th hunger games (Gale would be kinda like Finnick in strength, Rue is fast and agile). That could’ve made the perfect team.
But Katniss and Rue formed an alliance because Rue helped her with the beehive(I dunno what it was called) so if Katniss and Gale worked together it would be very unlikely for the 2 of them to meet, right?
I think Gale would sacrifice anything for Katniss, even if she told him not to. When it comes to who would win, it’s hard to tell. I think because Gale is decently smart, he wouldn’t let taunting the capitol be an option. He’s also weapon and food smart though, so he’d get far. I also agree with most of these comments Gale would definitely be very charming and a bad boy.
If Katniss and Gale were in the games together, I could see the Capitol pushing a “Careers vs District 12” angle, making the two groups of strong tributes face off. Maybe they could even team up with Thresh and Rue, creating a pseudo-Career pack out of the districts that usually have the weakest tributes. The Gamemakers would definitely play this up, pushing the two groups into several confrontations. Gale would definitely be the most bloodthirsty of the 11/12 alliance, as he likely resents the Careers for treating the Games like a sport. Katniss would have to reason him out of actively hunting the Careers when they don’t need to. As far as the “star-crossed lovers” angle, I honestly don’t think Gale could pull it off as well as Peeta. He’s protective over Katniss, and would likely die to let her go home, but I don’t think that would be played off as anything more than regular District solidarity, the way Thresh goes after the people that killed Rue or the way Cato goes mad after Clove dies. So I highly doubt the rule change would happen in this version of the hunger games.
I just noticed Katniss and Gale are good at hunting and we know that Rue wants to ally Katniss so they would have someone who is good with plants.This could give them a bigger chance of winning and this will make them a bigger threat to the other tributes.
Gale was just kind of a brut throughout all the movies..is just katniss did all that work..for him to be like' pay attention to me I'm your boyfriend'.... for all this katniss could have single...my goodness
I found Gale to be very selfish and unforgiving most the time. Katniss didn't really become desirable to him until after the first games. Which was brought on mostly from jelousy over Peta. He then tried to put Katniss in a position to have to choose between him self and Peta where as Peta was willing to back off and just try to be friends with her. Let's not also forget as the series moved forward Gale proved he had a bloodthirsty side that allowed him to justify creating a weapon the in the end murders Prim. In the book he never truely apologized for that. And in the end practically abandoned Katniss to the remnants of district 12 never to return because he got a comfy new job in district 2. Which to me speaks volumes about how much she ever really ment to him.
Kimberly Stevens he also got a job in district 1/2 (I forget ;w;) and never tried to reach out too Kattnis. Witch either shows that he used kattnis or didn’t treasure kattnisis friendship as much as she did
Gale obviously considered it but he shouldn’t of gone in, like Peeta said Katniss would never forgive him, Katniss’s family would’ve starved and Gales as well so someone needed to stay
the rule of 2 wouldn’t have happened because gale wouldn’t have allied with the carriers leaving katniss alone to find rue which would cause the lose of the 11 rebellion
I think he would have taken an approach similar to Haymitch but a bit more bad boyish. Considering he is very attractive he would probably get a lot of sponsors but if he won he would be sold for his body :/
Going with an anti-Capitol strategy would’ve been one of the worst ideas possible. The Capitol is not going to allow someone with that public mentality to win and they’re going to make sure that tribute won’t make it far, let alone get close to becoming the victor. All that’s going to do is give people the idea that it’s acceptable to be against the Capitol, which is clearly the last thing that they want to happen. We know the Capitol will rig against unfavorable tributes as Katniss talks about the one tribute who began a cannibal in the arena in the first book being purposefully killed off, and obviously Snow wanted to rig it against Katniss in the 75th games. I’m not a huge fan of Gale but I do think he is smart enough to realize that would only get him killed in the arena and possibly even endanger his family back home.
They would have made a great team. Gale would have never done the whole star crossed lover thing so no rule change. They would have been together through out the games taking tributes out, until they were the last two standing. He would have sacrificed himself to save katniss. Katniss becomes winner of the 74th hunger games. End of book.
I think Gale would have been asked to join the careers. He's a skilled archer and super strong. He wouldn't have done it, but he would have been asked to.
I think whatever he picks - the career people would see Gale as a threat and pick him off right away. Katniss would have died next because she wouldn't have been able to get over his death.
I think Haymitch would convince them to play the lovers role and he wouls make a finnick / Gloss type out of him. However I also believe that in the arena Gale would act more like thresh and clove did. meaning he wouldn't do shit and let Katniss do all the hard work. Also quick question. As for the books, I liked them as they are pretty, and I liked the interviews in them, but they don't add much overall. I just like buying books, even if I already have them 😂
Gale might have aligned quicker or died, as the only reason peeta lived was his camouflage skills. For the alignment, they would have a very similar plan, as they have a very similar skill set. He might actually live though if he won over the crowd, as sponsors would be common, however it depends on how useful the sponsors are. If he played star cross lovers, they probably would do the night lock way out, if they weren't it would be a bit less likely.
I feel like if Prim was in the games, She would be a lot like Rue. And Prim and Rue become friends. And if Prim got hurt, we know she can heal herself. But sadly I don’t think Prim would win, because in the first movie Katniss says “Prim in the woods”? And the arena was the woods. And Prim can not fight, and she will need to fight if she wants to have a chance against the carriers, but Prim is a fan Favorite. “ the whole country loves your sister”- second movie.
I don’t think the star crossed lovers would happen because Peeta is the one who instigated that. Haymitch never did that with any of the other tributes from district 12. Peeta’s real love for Katniss began the star crossed lovers angle. Gale would never open up enough to even tell Haymitch he liked Katniss. He was too untrusting. Also, if Gale was in it, I think Peeta would have done more to help Katniss’s family and their romance would have happened anyway (like Katniss said in Mockingjay) whether it was helping Prim while Katniss was in the games or helping Katniss while Prim was in the games.

I actually don't think Gale would sacrifice himself for Katniss. Peeta said he doesn't want the Games to change who he is. But Gale does not hold the same values. He would've fought to survive, they both would, and the arena would change them both. Katniss said so herself to Peeta before the games, that she cannot afford to think like that. Gale couldn't either, he had a family he had to feed, too. When they change the rules, Katniss momentarily aims at Peeta. She feels awful about it a second later, but it was instinct. Gale has the same instincts. They would both react, and after they both aimed at each other, there would be no going back. Peeta was there to ground Katniss the whole time, and his sincere lack of interest in fighting for his life is what gives her a wake up call. That's the only reason she thought of the berries. Has she been with Gale instead, one of them would fire. I think it would be Katniss. She would have become part of the system. And there would be no Mockingjay.
I agree with everything you said, except for the end. I think Gale would have shot Katniss. He always had less trouble with killing, and although he would have felt terrible guilt afterward, he would have been able to live with it. Katniss couldn't have lived with shooting Gale. Either way, though, there would have been no Mockingjay. (Peeta could have been the Mockingjay, but never got the opportunity.)
i feel like gale would have the same odds as someone like marvel or even clove and cato. not only is he talented with his weapons and not only is he street smart, but he is good-looking and knows how to make people fall for him easily. also i’d like to mention something else, president snow takes good-looking tributes such as finnish by request of capitol citizens to sell themselves, this could also help him survive and receive more sponsors.
I think Katniss and Gale would win easily since they have hunted in the woods for years together. They would also probably add a crossbow along side bow.
Gale and Katniss would have been like Cato and Clove. But a lot worse. They were both so skilled and clearly loved each other dearly, so if they went into the games together, it would be different to the games we know of, and I would love to see an alternate book series where Gale upon Katniss volunteering, also volunteered for Peeta. Peeta and his dad would likely help out Katniss’s family, and in tern the Everdeens would help out Gales family. I also think Gale would just act naturally, with his hate for the capitol, but obviously he would be a heartthrob and unless the star crossed lovers tactic was used, he would likely become just like Finnick.
I don't think Katniss would have turned into an aggressive killer like the Careers, although Gale might. Their moral compasses differed when it came to how to justify killing people. Katniss never killed anyone in the arena except in self defense, while Gale I think would have been aggressive and hunted or trapped the other tributes. Peeta and his Dad would have helped Katniss' family as much as they could, but it wouldn't have been enough to keep them from starving since the Mellarks were quite poor, too, despite running the bakery. The merchants in the districts were all poor, just not to the point of starvation.

No, that wouldn't work because the male tribute is chosen after the female, and if another girl is going to volunteer she has to speak up immediately. That means Katniss couldn't wait to see who the boy would be.
i think that only 1 of them would make it out alive. Since Gale and Katniss always hunted in the woods, theres a very real chance that even if the rule change did occur, Gale would know that the nightlocks were poisonous and wouldn't be collecting them, which would ultimately end with them not being able to pull off the double suicide. It would end with either Gale killing himself or Seneca blowing one of their trackers up
Haymitch would have advised Gale to charm the Capitol so he could get sponsors. That means neither being like Thresh nor like how Haymitch acted (which cost him so dearly). Haymitch won't let Gale make that mistake!
I think, at the end of the first book, when it is announced that only one tribute could win, and Katniss instictively draws her bow, Gale would do the same thing and shoot her.

She does do round to the poor/hungry and give them food in Catching Fire book.
The winning money is enough to feed at least 60 people for life. No one seems to estimate how much it is.

given how Gale likes to say what he likes about the Capitol in the woods, the Gamemakers might target him if he says anything bad to ensure he doesn't win the games, thereby putting Katniss at risk as well.
Gale would not betray Katniss purposefully and would gladly sacrifice himself if it meant she could win.
If katniss did die,(not by Gale's doing) Gale would have tried to win so he could provide for his family and Katniss's, but he would be forever changed by the trauma. He'd still be a revolutionary, but he would definitely have some problems after becoming a victor with both his mental state and with the Capitol.
I know I'm late but I just have to say, you did such an amazing job writing this. And you also had a bunch of smaller details to back up your opinions, I think this is a very accurate repersentation of how it would have played out of gale got reaped/volunteered for the hunger games.

Also a really interesting question: If they still had won together and catching fire is nearly the same (with Gale taking Peters role) how would that influence the story further? How would everything end with Gale being captured by the capitol? Would the explosion that kills Prim still happen? Would Prim and many others be alive in the first place if Gale were at the 75th games and not there to rescue the when the capitol comes to bomb 12? This scenario would have major influences on the whole series.

I think the conflict of wanting to protect each other but also return home to their respective families would havr worked against Katniss and Gale tbh.
Peeta and Katnis get split up very early and so can each play to their strengths: Katniss uses her outdoor skills to stay alive and Peeta keeps selling the star-crossed lover-angle to gain viewer sympathy.
Gale would have probably wanted to stick with Katniss from the start, and while two strong hunters are at an advantage initially, it might've been stressful for both of them to balance their priorities as the Games progress.
Also, I don't think that Gale would have readily played along with the lovers-spiel to appeal to the (capitol) audience, as he (like Katniss) is a closed-off person who doesn't like his feeling being exploited. I think his hatred for the whole event would blind him to socio-strategic planning (which is the element that Peeta excels in).
Without Peeta, the idea of the star crossed lovers would never have been considered, which also results in that the rule change would never have happened. The reason why Katniss was so appealing to the Capitol people in the first movie, was because she was a volunteer and because of what Peeta does at the opening ceremony and interviews. They would not have gotten that much attention from the sponsor and would have died.
They would be a power couple. I do believe that they would’ve found Rue and made a small alliance out of it. Like the original ending of the hunger games, they would’ve been the star cross lovers. Gale is more experienced than Peeta and would have been like Thresh and Cato in skills. I do believe that they would’ve been like Finnick, Katniss, Peeta, and Mags if they went into the 74th hunger games (Gale would be kinda like Finnick in strength, Rue is fast and agile). That could’ve made the perfect team.
But Katniss and Rue formed an alliance because Rue helped her with the beehive(I dunno what it was called) so if Katniss and Gale worked together it would be very unlikely for the 2 of them to meet, right?
If Gale was with Katniss in the bloodbath, Clove would be dead.

I think Gale would sacrifice anything for Katniss, even if she told him not to. When it comes to who would win, it’s hard to tell. I think because Gale is decently smart, he wouldn’t let taunting the capitol be an option. He’s also weapon and food smart though, so he’d get far. I also agree with most of these comments Gale would definitely be very charming and a bad boy.

If Katniss and Gale were in the games together, I could see the Capitol pushing a “Careers vs District 12” angle, making the two groups of strong tributes face off. Maybe they could even team up with Thresh and Rue, creating a pseudo-Career pack out of the districts that usually have the weakest tributes.
The Gamemakers would definitely play this up, pushing the two groups into several confrontations. Gale would definitely be the most bloodthirsty of the 11/12 alliance, as he likely resents the Careers for treating the Games like a sport. Katniss would have to reason him out of actively hunting the Careers when they don’t need to.
As far as the “star-crossed lovers” angle, I honestly don’t think Gale could pull it off as well as Peeta. He’s protective over Katniss, and would likely die to let her go home, but I don’t think that would be played off as anything more than regular District solidarity, the way Thresh goes after the people that killed Rue or the way Cato goes mad after Clove dies. So I highly doubt the rule change would happen in this version of the hunger games.

I just noticed Katniss and Gale are good at hunting and we know that Rue wants to ally Katniss so they would have someone who is good with plants.This could give them a bigger chance of winning and this will make them a bigger threat to the other tributes.
Gale was just kind of a brut throughout all the movies..is just katniss did all that work..for him to be like' pay attention to me I'm your boyfriend'.... for all this katniss could have single...my goodness
Gale definitely has his faults!
I found Gale to be very selfish and unforgiving most the time. Katniss didn't really become desirable to him until after the first games. Which was brought on mostly from jelousy over Peta. He then tried to put Katniss in a position to have to choose between him self and Peta where as Peta was willing to back off and just try to be friends with her. Let's not also forget as the series moved forward Gale proved he had a bloodthirsty side that allowed him to justify creating a weapon the in the end murders Prim. In the book he never truely apologized for that. And in the end practically abandoned Katniss to the remnants of district 12 never to return because he got a comfy new job in district 2. Which to me speaks volumes about how much she ever really ment to him.
Kimberly Stevens he also got a job in district 1/2 (I forget ;w;) and never tried to reach out too Kattnis. Witch either shows that he used kattnis or didn’t treasure kattnisis friendship as much as she did

Going with an anti-Capitol strategy would’ve been one of the worst ideas possible. The Capitol is not going to allow someone with that public mentality to win and they’re going to make sure that tribute won’t make it far, let alone get close to becoming the victor. All that’s going to do is give people the idea that it’s acceptable to be against the Capitol, which is clearly the last thing that they want to happen. We know the Capitol will rig against unfavorable tributes as Katniss talks about the one tribute who began a cannibal in the arena in the first book being purposefully killed off, and obviously Snow wanted to rig it against Katniss in the 75th games. I’m not a huge fan of Gale but I do think he is smart enough to realize that would only get him killed in the arena and possibly even endanger his family back home.
They would have made a great team. Gale would have never done the whole star crossed lover thing so no rule change. They would have been together through out the games taking tributes out, until they were the last two standing. He would have sacrificed himself to save katniss. Katniss becomes winner of the 74th hunger games. End of book.

I think Gale would have been asked to join the careers. He's a skilled archer and super strong. He wouldn't have done it, but he would have been asked to.
I think whatever he picks - the career people would see Gale as a threat and pick him off right away. Katniss would have died next because she wouldn't have been able to get over his death.
I think Haymitch would convince them to play the lovers role and he wouls make a finnick / Gloss type out of him. However I also believe that in the arena Gale would act more like thresh and clove did. meaning he wouldn't do shit and let Katniss do all the hard work.

Gale might have aligned quicker or died, as the only reason peeta lived was his camouflage skills. For the alignment, they would have a very similar plan, as they have a very similar skill set. He might actually live though if he won over the crowd, as sponsors would be common, however it depends on how useful the sponsors are. If he played star cross lovers, they probably would do the night lock way out, if they weren't it would be a bit less likely.

I feel like if Prim was in the games, She would be a lot like Rue. And Prim and Rue become friends. And if Prim got hurt, we know she can heal herself. But sadly I don’t think Prim would win, because in the first movie Katniss says “Prim in the woods”? And the arena was the woods. And Prim can not fight, and she will need to fight if she wants to have a chance against the carriers, but Prim is a fan Favorite. “ the whole country loves your sister”- second movie.
I don’t think the star crossed lovers would happen because Peeta is the one who instigated that. Haymitch never did that with any of the other tributes from district 12. Peeta’s real love for Katniss began the star crossed lovers angle. Gale would never open up enough to even tell Haymitch he liked Katniss. He was too untrusting. Also, if Gale was in it, I think Peeta would have done more to help Katniss’s family and their romance would have happened anyway (like Katniss said in Mockingjay) whether it was helping Prim while Katniss was in the games or helping Katniss while Prim was in the games.

I actually don't think Gale would sacrifice himself for Katniss. Peeta said he doesn't want the Games to change who he is. But Gale does not hold the same values. He would've fought to survive, they both would, and the arena would change them both. Katniss said so herself to Peeta before the games, that she cannot afford to think like that. Gale couldn't either, he had a family he had to feed, too. When they change the rules, Katniss momentarily aims at Peeta. She feels awful about it a second later, but it was instinct. Gale has the same instincts. They would both react, and after they both aimed at each other, there would be no going back. Peeta was there to ground Katniss the whole time, and his sincere lack of interest in fighting for his life is what gives her a wake up call. That's the only reason she thought of the berries. Has she been with Gale instead, one of them would fire. I think it would be Katniss. She would have become part of the system. And there would be no Mockingjay.
I agree with everything you said, except for the end. I think Gale would have shot Katniss. He always had less trouble with killing, and although he would have felt terrible guilt afterward, he would have been able to live with it. Katniss couldn't have lived with shooting Gale. Either way, though, there would have been no Mockingjay. (Peeta could have been the Mockingjay, but never got the opportunity.)

i feel like gale would have the same odds as someone like marvel or even clove and cato. not only is he talented with his weapons and not only is he street smart, but he is good-looking and knows how to make people fall for him easily. also i’d like to mention something else, president snow takes good-looking tributes such as finnish by request of capitol citizens to sell themselves, this could also help him survive and receive more sponsors.

I think Katniss and Gale would win easily since they have hunted in the woods for years together. They would also probably add a crossbow along side bow.

Gale and Katniss would have been like Cato and Clove. But a lot worse. They were both so skilled and clearly loved each other dearly, so if they went into the games together, it would be different to the games we know of, and I would love to see an alternate book series where Gale upon Katniss volunteering, also volunteered for Peeta. Peeta and his dad would likely help out Katniss’s family, and in tern the Everdeens would help out Gales family. I also think Gale would just act naturally, with his hate for the capitol, but obviously he would be a heartthrob and unless the star crossed lovers tactic was used, he would likely become just like Finnick.
I don't think Katniss would have turned into an aggressive killer like the Careers, although Gale might. Their moral compasses differed when it came to how to justify killing people. Katniss never killed anyone in the arena except in self defense, while Gale I think would have been aggressive and hunted or trapped the other tributes. Peeta and his Dad would have helped Katniss' family as much as they could, but it wouldn't have been enough to keep them from starving since the Mellarks were quite poor, too, despite running the bakery. The merchants in the districts were all poor, just not to the point of starvation.

No, that wouldn't work because the male tribute is chosen after the female, and if another girl is going to volunteer she has to speak up immediately. That means Katniss couldn't wait to see who the boy would be.
i think that only 1 of them would make it out alive. Since Gale and Katniss always hunted in the woods, theres a very real chance that even if the rule change did occur, Gale would know that the nightlocks were poisonous and wouldn't be collecting them, which would ultimately end with them not being able to pull off the double suicide. It would end with either Gale killing himself or Seneca blowing one of their trackers up
