I still love this song in 2024! Anybody else?
Me❤
I love it since 1978! ❤
I knew this song listening Short Waves. It was extinct Radio Nacional de Chile and it was 1978
My best friend just passed away this week. We met first day of kindergarten in 1969. 53+ years of friendship. He and I loved this song as teenagers. The lyrics and music are still magical. I have thought about the past few decades together with him. Time Passages of joy and brotherhood. RIP Phil
I am so sorry about your loss. My sister just lost her best friend around the exact time you lost yours. 40+ yrs of friendship gone in an instant (aneurysm). Makes you think to make the most of every minute of everyday with the ones you love.
I still see a couple friends from kindergarten class of 1969.
I was born in 68
So sorry, my best friend and I met way back in 1976 and we've been friends ever since
Reminds me of an old friend who died by his own hands . Sorry for your loss
Still listening and vibing to this in 2024!!❤
Yeah because a song like this takes talent and the 70's and early 80's were the best times.
I have Year of The Cat LP. Have not played it in over 30yrs.
Me to! Reminds me of my hay days.
I Thank GOD for the idea of RUclips
On RUclips, We can listen to all our favorite music. And many of favorites have been remastered and or extended making our listening experience better than ever
I’m 51 years old and always loved this song. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s…IMO some of the BEST decades of original and fun music 🎶! This song always gives me such a nostalgic feeling when I listen to it.
New music can’t hold a candle to the music of the 1970’s and 80’s
Your so right period
Where has Al Stewart been all my life. I am 78 years old and I heard this song for the first time on the radio this morning. Beautiful melody and the lyrics sent shivers down my spine. It has made my day a special one. Karen W
I heard it just now and I am 47! Xxx
That sax midway through the song gets me every time.
Me, too!!!@@mzp57
wow. just... wow.
Welcome to the club
The carefree days of our youth.....listening to music from the 1960's and 1970's. I am reverting back to those days in my retirement. Life is too short....play, relax, laugh and enjoy what time you have left.....the opportunity to revisit our music is priceless
😎👍👍👍
The best days are gone. The 70's and the 80's . Wish I could bring those days back again. My mum was alive then. RIP mum we love you and dad.👍🍷🙋♀️💞🐕🙏👍
I agree and I miss those days life was good then and my dad passed away a long time ago and life is hard.
Whoever that sax player was, deserves an award! Amazing!
All of them wonderful musicians.
Phil Kenzie; beautifully played indeed.
Check out year of the cat
@@stevedunbar1400 Absolutely! Have that on my playlist.
This song is so melancholoc. It reminds me of happier more innocent times that I sorely miss nowadays,

Just remember, in 20 more years, you'll be saying that THESE were the good times. Live in the moment. Be present. The only thing that matters is the now! Enjoy life now before you can't!

This song by Al Stewart is a timeless gift. 😊
Yes it is
...Al Stewart ; timeless...
Truly it is, along with Year of the Cat. And yes, I also love his Song on the Radio.
Bellissima è dire poco ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
Saw Al Stewart just this year in California 2024. We were truly transported out of this place and lifted to another plane, so thankful to see him live, what a super iconic experience. Love you Al Stewart ❤❤❤❤❤
I love this song more every time I hear it.
It was a favorite of my brother Dave, who passed 9 years ago.❤
This song and "Year of the Cat" I'm transported back to a simpler time. Oh how I wish I could go back. Sigh.
Listen to ON THE BORDER you will love that one too.
@@mikestewart3800 oh yes, I remember that one too.
Me too
1978 was a great year in music, especially with songs like these!.
I remember hearing this at the roller rink. Every weekend, we all went there to hang out and that was in the early 1980's with disco balls, fog machines and more colored lights than you could shake a stick at. It truly was a magical time growing up. We caught the end of the 1970's and the beginning of the 1980's at the same time. We had the best of both. Nothing quite compared with going around a roller rink on skates and just hanging with your friends on a Friday or Saturday night. Playing Pac Man or Defender in the arcade. Man we were blessed but we couldn't know it then or truly appreciate it until now. I am 58 this September and I wonder where the time has gone. It gets away from you that fast. But when I hear these songs, it brings you right back. The feelings, the sights, the sounds, the memories all come flooding back and it almost seems like you're in a dream for a short time and the younger you is having some weird dream about the future you. Then you snap out of it and realize, it's the other way around. A guy who was a friend of mine and brought me out of my shell, introduced me to KISS and indoctrinated me into the KISS army died here not all that long ago. We were classmates and friends. My class has lost so many already. Makes me hope that in the afterlife, wherever we go, we have parks to listen to loud tunes in and long summer days that seem like they will never end. I like to think that they are all already there and when we finally make it, we will pick up where we left off and life will be good. Some things about growing up I would never want to repeat but there are other things, a lot of them, I can remember now as if they happened yesterday. Would be nice to get those days back. Days before being disabled and all the problems health wise crept into our lives. Days before marriage and divorces turned us upside down. Days when we never thought of having to say good bye to friends we stuck by through thick and thin. Before life became so complicated.
Excelente visión de lo que es la vida un abrazo hermano
I'm nearly 64. This tune really takes me back. A real joy on "repeat one". Never gets old.
Same here. Makes me smile and a sweet sadness too

I'm glad Al Stewart got to have 2 of his best songs in the US charts.
NO ONE can deny this song took talent, soul, intelligence, & heart, So thankful he took that fire and recorded it for our enjoyment. THANKS AL!
kkkk
Makes me cry, every time I play this song😢😢😢
I was honored to see him in a small San Francisco club....absolutely beautiful
My wife and I just had our first child. A few days after she was born my dad took me out for a beer to celebrate and talk. As we clinked our glasses he said, "to time passages." I've known this beautiful song for years but now these lyrics have a whole new meaning for me. Cherish the time you have with your loved ones, it's fleeting.
friend, what you say is the true truth. Life are only unique moments.
Your Dad knows good music! This music is just so beautiful! And so profound! This is music me and your Dad discovered and fell in love with so many years ago! So happy you love it too! It's sooo beautiful! Bless you little big brother ha ha.... DDDave
My friend, I could not agree more with your statement. I lost my mom to multiple strokes earlier this year. Al Stewart was one of her favourite artists. It makes you remember that time *is* fleeting, and must appreciate, remember, and cherish the world and people who hold dear in it. Goddess Bless you, and may your baby grow into someone amazing, just as you are.
Yes it is... My first boyfriend and I have been in love and on separate journeys for 50 years..I know about time passages.. Treasure your time.. It flies by without you even noticing..
You reach out your hand... But you're all alone in these time passages...
Al Stewart... A Philosopher and Historian who just happened to be a Composer... What a Gift.
Love Al Stewart and love the 70's, it was a special time and he we were spoiled with the best music in history.
Music from the time when all that mattered was the music. God Im glad I lived in the 70s

Johnny Johnstone I am 68, still a hippie!
The most mellow music ever
I really miss those days.❤❤
We all do. But "Those" days are still here in a sense , As long as there's RUclips. Keep listening 😊
My Uncle Stan, may he rest in peace...played this song over and over again at our cottages in Canada back in the 70s. I was 10 then. Please god take me back!
Thats wild. Im a John Wheeler, spent much of my summers as a youth in Ontario in the 70s, , and this is one of my favorite songs.
Uncle Stan was in touch with the truth. May he rest in peace.
I am 45 years old, I am the same age as this song, if you are still listening to this masterpiece you know good music.
Only found this song this year, I'm 22. I love this.
Masterpiece. I never get sick of this song
I was just 7 years in end of 1980 and my family was moving house that afternoon in Brazil. It was such a mess! Suddenly I stopped at kitchen and heard this song on the radio. So many years have passed but I do not forget my child times.....I really miss my parents, my grandma, my child friends, my old school!
Great song for any age and any time in life! Simply perfect!
My dear mom, who passed away four years ago, use to enjoy taking Sunday summer afternoon drives and listening to this on our cassette player.

I was lucky enough to see Al Stewart perform this song live at a small jazz club that no longer exists. My sister and I waited in line just to meet him and say hello. One of the things I’ll remember on my death bed. ❤️
Wow Dianna !!! What was he like??!! I’m extremely jealous ✌️

@@user-kb6iu4pc6f Same goes for the ecstatic riffs in "Song on the radio"!
Never get tired of hearing this beautiful song.
And Year of the cat.
Something about this song struck me in the season of my dad passing last summer. -- In the months afterward I would go back to it as a touchstone for mourning, releasing those hidden dregs of grief. -- Now, it still ministers to me about the great dad I had, the great life I've been blessed with, and the life I'm leading with my wife, our children, and the time passages all around us. Thank you, Al.
My condolences to u about ur Dad. 😓🙏🏽 Beautifully written btw.
A good father is a blessing indeed! My condolences Thomas.
What a beautiful and refreshing sentiment. And sounds like you were and are truly blessed.BTW you are a good writer!
Sorry about your dad. Your comment was well written. Thanks for sharing.
No wonder I'm stuck in the 70's.....
a nice place to be stuck

A wonderful decade
I lost my dad a little over a year ago. He gave me the gift of cars and music and we loved talking about the 70s. He gifted me his old Marantz receiver that now resides above my fireplace. When I listen to music, the line "I know you're in there you're just out of sight" makes me think of him.
Love you dad.
This man was extremely underated fantistic writer and a classic singer
And I am going to his concert 24 August. He is 77 and I am 70. I have 3 of his albums on vinyl. Ought to be a great time. So I go back n time 50 years

I'm 62 . Heard this song when I was a wee babe

Some of the best music from a time when this music soooothed the soul, and still does. So glad I grew up in this time...many great memories of love❣️

42 years after he wrote the song, the lyrics seem strange : "Well I'm not the kind to live in the past. The years run too short and the days too fast". The fact is that we are still listening to this masterpiece, a way to say that we do live in the past, and we do love it !
AGREED!
I love this song!
Very well said ❤
Cool
Well said it’s a classic
This hits home ..!!! Live and Enjoy The Moment Lads..!!
Al Stewart's "Time Passages" was the very first 45 rpm record, that I purchased, as a young man. I still love the song. Just beautifully serene.
perfect mix of sax and guitar and piano.....ear candy ...................
Thank you for that. bought the vinyl of it and it has no rpm on the case
I bought the cassette version of the album in 1988, and it was the first and only Al Stewart album I've ever bought
Nice first 45❤️
@Dwight Dodd The sax solo was performed by Tom Scott, who was the bandleader for the short-lived CBS late night talk show The Pat Sajak Show in 1987. He left the NBC version of the game show Wheel Of Fortune, then a few months later, it moved to CBS. Despite hosting his talk show, he still hosted Wheel Of Fortune in syndication.
My friend died December 8, 2023. This song has been with me my entire life. I return to it to memorialize his life as I remember what's left we shared. This one hurts and I'll miss you....but we'll meet again and I'll think of you as my journey along the road continues. 1965 to 2023
Timeless music that takes you back to simpler times!
Xevier ur so right about the song Time Passages by Al Stewart. Was just sitting here watching it rain think n about my past n remember n the good time s n bad . What a time it was when music came out
Agreed !
All the great memories in the 70's young and free. No Politics
I was a child when I heard this on the Dan Ingram show WABC-AM radio from NYC, and it made me cry how it stirred nostalgia in me knowing I’m not here long, my family everyone will not make it to the end with me. It was a profound feeling of loss and dread for me. I was always ahead for my age and I was reading that was then this is now, it was December just after Christmas and everyone I knew in the world had just passed through my house. I miss them all and today I’m glad this memory brings them all back so vividly since this song placed a marker for my life, my youth, my family. Thanks to Al Stewart, for the memories:)

1978. WHAT a year for music!
Its 2023 and we are still listening now, that's Time Passages.
2024 and still listening...
I must admit Al's songs have a sensational saxophone solo somewhere in them!!
I love how in the album version the saxophone solo repeats itself. In the single version, the song fades off before the second saxophone solo
The sax is played by the legendary Phil Kenzie and the second solo on the album version (heard here) comes when you think the song is fading and about to end, but then Phil comes in to take you away on another glorious flight, aided by glorious strings.
The album version is the only one that counts. Alan Parsons' arranging and those sax solos. And that fade out figure. All gone from the single. Just gets better with time.
Yeah! Check out "Song on the Radio"
Thank you so much Al......!!!! Saw you last night at TCan in Natick Mass. October 6 2023. By Far.......one of the most Amazing concerts of my life..........

I recall driving home in the midst of a Minnesota winter and hearing this song on my way home, and feeling a warm and wonderful sensation in my heart, and a deep connection with this very classy and wonderful artist. I recall the other songs from this about, Palais of Versailles, Man for All Seasons, Song on the Radio, Almost Lucy. One of the best songs of ever
One of my favorites.. When they wrote music not garbage
They wrote garbage back then. Hell, Stewart even talks about it before playing a live performance of this song.
I think I find this period to be when they actually were about making the push for great music, and not repeat shite we have with nowadays with an abusive music industry.
You got that right. Garbage music now in the 20th Century.
garbage music has always existed, it has just evolved over time
