Great review as always! Couple things to note. I have a 21 Macan with the Bose. There are no mid range speakers in the back doors. The hole is there for the Burmester mids, there are speakers in the D pillars for surround. The 2021 Macans still came with an SD card which I use for High resolution music. The headunit will read any file format you can throw at it, AAC, MP3,ALAC,FLAC and WAV etc. When I played with the radio I found that the fader needs to be pushed back -2 to turn down the center channel since it made the sound muddy. Also turned the bass down -1 and treble +2. The bass at 0 and up was too boomy for me. Linear mode made the music too bight and Surround made the music sound awful. Basically the center channel and the surround speakers in the D pillar are awful. I replaced the center channel with a hertz 3in and all the tweeters in the car were replaced with the Burmester tweeters from Porsche, which at $70 a tweeter is a steal. Anyways the setup i have right now makes the system almost as good as Burm without spending an extra $4k. The weakest link in the Bose system are the tweeters center channel subwoofer and rear surround speakers, the amp is very good and with some small upgrades you can make a world of a difference. believe it or not Burmster actually has worse quality mids and woofers to the Bose system.
Well the reviewer gave it an A rating without tweaking any settings. You had to change quite a few settings to get it to sound good. I've read on Porsche forums that this Bose system isn't good and to either get the base system or Burmester. I wonder if this reviewer knows what good audio is or not?
Agree that overall it is a pretty good system, I hear a lot of people complain about the Bose in the Macan but I think it has a lot to do with the source and quality of music you are listening to.
Interesting points here, I have a '19 Macan with the Bose (99% sure nothing has changed). As a note, I am not an audiophile by any stretch, I just want to be submersed in my music no matter the genre. I have my bass turned up +3 (gotta feel it, right?!?!?! lol).
I have the Burmester stereo in my Macan Turbo. I drove a Macan loaner a couple of days ago when mine was in for service. The loaner had a Bose stereo and the sound was very disappointing, comparatively. The sound quality and spatial awareness was really lacking compared to the Burmester and if you like to listen to your tunes, it's a worthy upgrade to step up to the Burmester. I wouldn't own a Porsche without one.
After watching both reviews of Bose system in Macan and 718, I agree with you. Having these 2 cars in my family, I also play the same song through CarPlay to have a feel myself. Personally, I prefer both linear and surround "on". I find that 718 gives a more spacious sound feel while Macan is actually more spacious inside the car, same as you mentioned in the video. I also think Macan has a better balanced performance, and a way powerful subwoofer than that in 718. This system in Macan really worth money among the Porsche brand. Haven't heard the Burmester in Macan, really looking forward to your review on this one.
I'm surprised to hear positive things about this system -- I haven't heard it here, but in some other Porsches (looking at you, 911) the Bose system was characterized by a loud, muddy subwoofer that they hope you won't turn down because it would reveal lackluster sound across the rest of the range. Love this video!!! Watched it dozens of times and helped me in decided to get a Macan with Bose this summer. I have found this Bose setup to be amazing! I would go as far to give an A+ if it had more tuning of the sound like a mid section to adjust. Curious as I have asked others and a few have agreed… I love the full richness of putting it into Bose surround as it really fills the space with a great sound stage. However when I do and listen to it for some time I seem to get a bad headache. Yet off, no headache and can listen for hours. Obviously I know I should keep in regular mode to avoid headaches but have you or people you know that review audio ever get headaches or dizziness or nausea almost when listen to car audio with a surround setting on? Thanks.
I actually think this system is much more composed than the Burmester. I find that the Burmester stumbles on heavy bass. And how this car base system does not have a rear sub is wild when the Q5 10 speaker does have a sub and is still a fantastic audio experience. 10 speaker or Bang&Olufsen
It's wild how all over the place Bose systems are. Even amongst the parent company's various brands! The Encore GX Bose system is fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was when I tested it, and sealed the deal for me getting one for awhile. Then I tested a Bose upgrade in a different GM vehicle and was disappointed. Despite being an identical setup, it just didn't sound as good. My 987 Boxster has the Bose 10 speaker system in it. I replaced the HU because I want carplay, but left the Bose speakers and amp in place. It's a fantastic system, especially in such a tiny cabin. I used to make fun of their home stuff because, let's be real, the cube system they pushed in the 90s was absolute overpriced trash. But their car offerings have been pretty great. Just have to test it out beforehand to make sure it's what you want in an OEM system for sound.
Ok, so I am going to order the 2024 Porsche Macan GTS. I want the best sound system out of the two. I saw you did test the Bermester in the Turbo S. Which system sounds the best please? I don't care about the price... which sounds best? After listening to the video where is the Porsche Macan GTS Bermester test video??? Exactly what I needed!
Listening with my AP maxes I’m impressed by this system, for what it is. Honestly don’t know if I’ve ever heard a bose system I liked before this one. I think this system is almost as clear as the lexicon in my GV70, with substantially better base. @DM, thought on a comparison between the two systems. I’m thinking about trading in my GV70 for either another GV70 (3.5T) or a Macan. Thanks!
I probably watched your video on the GV70 a dozen times before I purchased. Living in post covid, have to order, can’t test drive era, your videos have been very influential. When are you getting your hands on a Macan with the burmester? I’m hoping to hear it before I have to make my decision between the Macan and the GV70
It *should*, but unfortunately I don't still have the car here to test. We should be getting a Macan GTS soon to test, but it may be after you take delivery of yours.
I would agree with you 100% except for this system, actually sounded pretty good. I’m not comparing it to the top systems from mercedes or volvo by any means, but for an “entry” system Id say this is probably the best. Even tops some of the merc upgraded systems (a class/b class/gla/glb) and H&K in some of the smaller BMW’s (x3 etc).

Bose has a wide selection of speakers. Quality depends on what you can afford. Their entry level speakers are decent, not trash.
