  • Laser cutting for scale models is not something I imagined will appear in my toolbox but there we go. The X-tool M1 laser cutter / engraver and knife cutter is on my bench and the opportunities for better and faster details making is here. Especially for dioramas.

    I'd be interested in a follow up video; especially if you've had any further tests doing pannel lines or masks with the laser engraver!

      There will be one for sure but I have to gather enough interesting video material :)

    Nice piece of kit , would certainly save time if you had a lot to do or didn’t have the skill level that you wanted. Nice clean cuts!
    Only downside is that you may lose skills that you have or worse, not learn or practice new skills!

    • @MMScaleModels
      @MMScaleModels  Год назад +1

      Maybe, but then you have to learn new skills. And honestly laying doun brickwork is not funny by any of the methods so I wouldn't miss that 😄

    Im interested in getting this but have you tested using the laser on masking tape?

    If I was going to use a wood service for a structure I would cut with the grain.

    Hi very informative video , can Xtool M1 cut with knife or laser "HIPS " styrene plastic sheets 1 mm thick or thinner ?

    • @MMScaleModels
      @MMScaleModels  9 месяцев назад

      Thank You! I havent tried HIPS, If it is thin enough the blade should be able to do it like any other cutting plotter. The laser can cut acrylic and other plastics but sometimes the problem are the fumes... which are toxic as far as I know.

  • @taumelscheibe5948
    @taumelscheibe5948 Год назад

    Have you tried to use the laser instead of the blade for cutting Masking tape?
    I'd imagine for sharp angles or very small details the laser might produces better results.
    That could be usefull for creating custom masks for Aircraft markings and insignia.
    I'm considering buying a laser module for my desktop CNC just for that purpose.

      Not yet but I will do so. I have a few question marks about this but tests will show.

    What is the power of this laser? 5 or 10W?

    now the model builders on youtube are springing up like mushrooms. Talent is no longer needed, the machines do it🤭

    • @MMScaleModels

      I think it takes more tallent and knowledge to design parts than to buy ready made detail sets or houses for dioramas... my 2 cents though.

    Excellent machine for a lot of fine detail but kinda takes the fun and skill out of the hobby. Plus it's way out of my price range.

    • @MMScaleModels
      @MMScaleModels  Год назад

      I agree for the price, however most of the things that can be created people usually buy. I mean the houses from mini art, rollers from green stuff world for the pavements and what not :)
