SolidWorks tutorial: modelling a globoid worm gear

- In this tutorial i will show you how to model a globoid worm gear in SW.
You can also use this method (swept surface - twist along path - convert entities - intersection curve) to model other kinds of complex threads etc.
I hope you find the tutorial usefull.
good try, but not an accurate representation of a double enveloping worm. The axial pressure angle does not remain constant across the length of the worm as shown. Rather, it follows a circular path center a the gear axis. This is possible in proe for sure. perhaps solidworks as well, but i am not sure how as it requires equation driven surfaces
Do you know of any tutorials that will show how to design a properly double enveloped worm gear?
Eric M As it turns out, i have a new project with double enveloping worm system that requires solidworks. I have been doing this In ProE for years, but will be converting this to Solidworks in the next few weeks. I may put something generic up when i'm finished. PS: Obviously, simply creating accurate models does not mean you have a proper "design". That requires gear rating per AGMA or ISO standards and knowledge of the loads spectrum and operating conditions.
+Mike Chartre Thanks for the reply. I have been trying to create a worm gear of very small dimensions and as such need as much tooth engagement as possible. I think I'll be reading up on worm gear design in the near future.
Mike,
My company is developing a machine tool which can produce Double Enveloping worms. These would be true Globoidal and very accurate. The process can produce a worm in under 3 minutes and won't need finishing.
We are currently working with a US manufacturer of these, but are looking for other companies which can appreciate the technology.
Any ideas?
+R Wehmann, and I am always interested in new technologies. Perhaps there are some ways we can help each other.
Thank You for this, needed a stronger worm gear to close Tidal turbine flaps in simulations. MPO'
This is not a globoid worm!. 1. There is variable axial pitch in globoid worm. 2. The profile of the tooth is oriented to globoidy rather than to the axis of the worm. Totally wrong!!! :-(
Agreed, it is far more complicated than this, so wanted to see if possible in Solidworks... this might look simple, but it is not even slightly correct...
it is just looks like a globoid worm, but it's not made by generation cut, also they are not conjugation.
I agree. This will not mesh properly with the Helical worm wheel.
Nu stiu engleza dar asemenea spindlu se poate executa foarte usor si bine pe strungul paralel adaugindui citeva dispozitive ese perfect fara nici o abatere
this's wrong

U do those grooves in the last part of the tutorial. U give some constraints. How do u calculate those radiuses and dimensions?
Thx.
VERY NICE! I can't seem to get my scenes to show while I'm working though, that looks like the kitchen counter you're workin on! :-/
That's cool. I need to learn how to use this program for a job application. I'll get training if I get the job but it can't hurt to get ahead of the game right?
great lessons! thanks
Is not the corect method. The worm is not corect

Hi
great video
@Jmpaul26
Try to enable RealView Graphics.
good man
man I made one of these in google sketchup and it was a bitch of a job
Yok have to draw four helix profile. Thus is Not true
Ok.
这个是错的,没有垂直法相(圆心)
i thought solid works is supposed to be better then fusion360. ffs. glad i did not get solidworks.
