I can't say enough about how beautiful she is and her message is so strong!!!! Talk more....say more....get out your message!!! She is by far the most gifted female alive today!!!!
AS A FORMER SOLDIER ,I NEVER RECOGNIZED HOW IMPORTANT LIFE IS UNTIL PUT IN A POSITION WHERE LIFE CAN END IN A MINUTE..I APPRECIATE EVERY SECOND EVERY DAY..ENJOY LIVING AND LOVING.
Every anecdote, an inspiring eye-opener! Love, Light and Life to all who have seen this, the speaker and those yet to be blessed by her tender insights. Much Love!
Spending an hour of my day just to look for videos like this one is really worth the time. She has captivated my attention and heart in the most profound way. Thank you Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen.
Lovely woman, lovely stories. It's strange to me that people don't know these things from childhood. As my father disappeared into the void from cancer of the esophagus at 46, when I was 5 years old I learned without even being old enough to have any inkling of life's complexities that life is about simplicity, a smile, a walk in the woods, laughter, creativity, compassion, joy, and sharing others fears, and pain until they go away. Unless they directly sustain life, material pursuits are a complete waste of your / our time.
The title doesn't say "Live Every Minute of Your Life". The title promises to describe the process as a work of art. That living one's life is a work of art is indeed obvious to those with a certain point of view, but that perspective is clearly at a level above the one you're using.
She really means what she is saying. I respect her for her service she has given to humanity. Each of her stories is an eye opener, like a wake up call. The message will ring in your head long after you hear it. One of the greatest video i have ever seen.
Dr. Remen wrote a great book with a name that belies the subject matter. It's called Kitchen Table Wisdom. She uses stories of her life and her practice with patients to show what she has learned and what she feels is spiritually important. Like how we are strong in times that are difficult, how we heal ourselves, how labels are damaging even the "good" labels which limit. Like vitamins for the parts of us that pills can't touch.
This was very well done. You asked "what is the purpose of life?" It is to know, love, and serve God (love). See love in each and everyone during each and every moment.
This was very good. My Father just Died a few days ago and it was quite sudden. He chose not to have anything to do with me and I've always felt his abuse which has affected our whole family ruined our lives. I've always felt damaged and broke. I am not going to his funeral. Its the first time I have ever not been afraid and its because he can't hurt me anymore. Maybe this is irrelevant but I just got a lot out of this here and its got me thinking. I am very glad I listened to this. Feels life changing. This was for me really interesting. Thank You so much.
My mother abused me ,mentally ,physically and emotionally , she need me when she was old and ill, I went to see her helped her and she died she was in her Country I didn't see her , but I feel not hate not more toward her I would go to her funeral as is part of healing ,our parent were in emotional pain .....I will go to his funeral if I am you !remember Karma ...you don't want your kids do the same thing to you!
You did the right thing Mystical. You never chose your father and were unfortunate to be birthed to him- Feel no guilt as he is the one who ruined many lives. Dont listen to silly people with odd logic. The only person you owe any aligence to is god/earth. Bless you for your courage and strength to get through that horror.
"I think the art of living is less about having the right answers than about having the right questions. And sometimes the questions that help us to live have no final answers at all. And you can carry one of these questions with you all of your life, finding deeper & deeper answers as you grow in your capacity to engage with life." Highly recommend Ms. Remen. You can increase the speed to 1.25 without missing anything.
A great story teller, I really enjoy it. I only wish more people would appreciate this kind of sharing and be thankful for the motivation and inspiration....
I watched this talk almost 10 years ago and found it incredibly inspiring. I had forgotten the title and the doctor's name, but I'm so glad to have come across it again today. I'm also happy to say it's just as profoundly moving as I remembered. ♡
this was the most beautiful video i have ever seen! it made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me feel, but the most important thing is that it made me ask some questions about the meaning of my life, my story and the stories of the people i know and don't know...thank you infinitely!
The need for stories? Oh yes, it's as someone once said, "If you want to hold people's attention, talk about people." Rachel, thank you for your captivating presentation.
Sage wisdom from one of my faves Rachel Naomi Remen--throughout. Inspiring reflection questions at 32:00 Recount and review my day backwards....What surprised me today? Review my day again ... What touched my heart today? Review my day again ... What inspired me today?
It touched my heart and this is really inspiring. Completely align with the way I want to live my life. My parents always said that I was an artist. I didn't believed them. I thought the were saying I was to sensitive or "not intelligent". I can finally make peace with myself and learn from now on to live my life artistically. Completely present to the treasure in front of me. So many thanks to be who you are and your sharing it so elegantly.
Art, after all, is first a way of seeing. *Then* it's a way of showing others what it IS that you see, and how it makes you feel. And there are many ways to express that "vision"...one of them being how you love!
As she at the beginning we are so busy in life that we forget about what we have in our desire to reach what we don't taking all our blessing for granted. It is in is to make the difference in people life's .
I would like to add that since not all of us can be life saving doctors or inventors, etc., that almost as life rewarding is to, at the least, not do bad things nor tread heavily in a negative way on this earth. This video is almost religious! I think we could rank it as almost as good as the Three Prodigal Sons or the story of making wine from grape juice. Thank you very much. I will check out other UCTV offering too, thank you for that too.
Was okay, I prefer Eckart Tolle's teachings for infrastructured world application, and buddhist teachings in general when I don't have to be among houses and technology. Thanks for the upload
Kia ora Rachel, nga mihi from Aotearoa, New Zealand. Right from the get go your definition of "Best Stories" held my attention, and overall a reminder of Living Life to the Full despite personal highs and lows.. He korero purakau, we are more enriched with your sharing.
Why waste your time making negative comments about a speaker who wants to help other people live better. Science or "pseudoscience" has nothing to do with it. Dr. Remen has some cool things to say.
Does anyone else find the stories about doctors and hospitals to be horrific? None of what she says surprises me, but damn, it sure confirms why I cannot stand most doctors, specialists and hospitals.
This is a very inspiring talk and i took alot away from it, i applaud her sharing so much with us all. However, i find one of her lines a bit irrelevant, misplaced and misused...i do hope i misunderstood the way she used it or im reading it the wrong way. 30:40 "Being a guy, he didnt identify what it was right away"
Disease is not a gift to life. There are good and bad things in life that exist. We humans are the ones to make decisions for ourselves, we decide what to make of from good or bad circumstances. We cant rely on nor justify the existence of bad things eg.disease as though they are the apparatus to help strengthen us in life. It should not be attributed to the disease, but ourselves for making the right decisions, given a bad situation.
Some people do need to see the end of their life that close to start seeing the rue value of it. Wonderfully, some people have imagination that is vivid sufficiently to see that without having to get really that close to that end. They have the same realization as you did without having to become a soldiers. They also see that value in life of others and they fear to be a cause of ending their valuable lives just to become a student who learn some appreciation.
As more doctors have come to embrace non-conventional health treatment options, I believe that the term "alternative medicine" is becoming obsolete. Exercise is considered "alternative medicine" yet you would be hard pressed to find a doc who wouldn't recommend it.
"Remember you're not a writer"....wow!!! If you can WRITE then you are in fact a WRITER. Who are these ridiculous people? LOL Pretty sure I am a writer too. Just wrote this entire comment on my own. I might be a publisher too, just haven't realized it yet.
this is a talk I come back to from time to time, I always find it inspiring.

She is soft spoken and her voice is very clear ,i love her lecture..Her talk made me realized to count more my blessings and appreciate LIFE:)
She really means what she is saying. I respect her for her service she has given to humanity. Each of her stories is an eye opener, like a wake up call. The message will ring in your head long after you hear it. One of the greatest video i have ever seen.
Love all the stories. We forget that each of us make part of the whole story.
Her tenderness has touched me so. Rachel Remen doesn t breathe with her lungs. She breathes with her heart. :)
i love the way she tells the story, brains takes away alot of information and make it as your own way of seeing your own life!
Thank you I really get it and I try to live this way. Material things arent so important. I thank God for giving us health and work

Thanks for the info about her book!
This was very well done. You asked "what is the purpose of life?" It is to know, love, and serve God (love). See love in each and everyone during each and every moment.
your right love is the only answer but not many people talk about, i have depression and sometimes its hard!

Could anyone summarize this talk, please. I'm not a native english speaker and I didn't understand everything...
