My only child is 24 now & learning life on her own... I teared up as you shared these because giving her a firm foundation on the Word & a relationship w/God was the MOST important to me as well. Without going into my WHOLE LIFE STORY, our family was shattered when she was 9, (divorce is something I NEVER expected), but even thru all that the Lord is always faithful. As a young woman now, she has thanked me many times for doing many of the things you shared (bringing her up in the Lord, worship, bible, limiting screentime, allowing her to always help me, eating together, on & on. Your 15 things were GREAT & several of them PRICELESS. You are molding who they are & it's your responsibility to do all the wonderful things you are doing. ❤ Thank you for sharing your life w/us. God bless you 🥰

One thing we do need n our home is; we don’t allow our children to sleep over anywhere or even spend the day without us at another’s house. Friend family etc. We still always welcome guest into our home.

You are such an encouragement! I felt as a mom the most important thing was making sure my children were standing in heaven with me one day. I’m so thankful that they are all serving God and now training their children up in the Lord! Not that we didn’t have struggles with them as teens🥴🥴 But they all knew they had to accept the Lord for themselves. And they have. God is so good! 🥰🥰

Avoiding the exposure of family shortcomings are a game changer. It reminds me of the scripture that says, Every wise woman builds her house but a foolish woman tears it down. ❤

Absolutely. I was teaching public school after my youngest went to first grade (my kids are your generation) and I watched the deterioration of family, the devaluing of respect for others, the increase in violence, and the deterioration of attention span and work ethic that came with the development of the computer age, starting for children with video games and the development of computers. When I compare my first (grade three) classes to my last there is a marked difference in those aspects for children~and parents. I think my parents would say that TV was the beginning of that change in our culture. I am not anti technology at all, I taught students how to use it, and obviously have those devices in my home, but I can see the obvious difference in our society that the free use of those devices has brought with it~TV, phones, computers,

Speaking ill on your family is dishonoring. That’s all there is to it. It can be hard when you feel like you’re crying out for help, but planning ahead as to who are our safe people to speak to helps avoid that. Thank you for this! I agree completely, even though I fail miserably at times.

Before I had my children I promised that I will always tell them the truth. Not easy but important to me.
When children still lived at home we swam alot (we live in the land of thousands of lakes🇫🇮), children made our sofa for boat, so playing was no 1 activity in our house.😂
And as you told to say I am sorry, it is so important.❤

This was so inspiring and encouraging for young families. We were blessed with 4 children who are now adults. I always say that we were so blessed that technology wasn't whet it is today. Our children got phones in high school, we had meals together, went to church every Sunday, they had chores and responsibilities, God has always been and always will be paramount in our lives. I agree with all of the things you discussed. I notice less young families at church each week. Kids are constantly on phones or some sort of electronic. It's sad, in many ways we need to go back in time a little. Simpler times, it's so important, that's my opinion. Rules, consequences, respect... let's go back. 🙏

  • @tammyjohnson568

We have 4 children…They’re all grown now but when they were younger we always had and still have soft worship music playing in our home, we always went to church together as a family whenever the doors were open, we would teach them to be a man or woman of your word, after school they’d get to play outside until dinner time, every Friday was pizza night and a trip to Block Buster for a movie, everyone even now spends the night before Christmas, we take a trip through the neighborhood to see the lights, decorate cookies, and celebrate Christmas morning together, everyone puts a little something in each others stockings, and so much more. 🥰

I would LOVE a more detailed video or even snippet about your specific family traditions. As a mom of two under two we are trying to make our own traditions and I love hearing other families ideas!
#5 reminded me of the T.H.I.N.K rule a lot. I always tell myself and kiddos is what we/I am saying to others, True,Helpful,Inspiring,Necessary, or Kind? And if it’s not, should I really be saying it? It’s easy to commiserate or gossip but it takes much more will power to be thoughtful with our words in group settings.

I really appreciate everything you shared. I heard once that our homes should be a haven of peace so that’s my constant mission I didn’t grow up with that so I’m still learning. One thing I think when it comes to our words being powerful God spoke everything we know into existence so if we are made in his imagine our words are more powerful than we realize.❤

I completely agree with your list. I grew up in a very loud argumentative home, and it caused me to have a very anxious disposition. I’ve spent my entire adult life working to clam my automatic system, and by the grace of God I finally feel a sense of peace. I don’t think parents understand the importance of a calm and peaceful environment.
We pick out our Christmas tree the day before Thanksgiving. But leave it in a bucket of water on the back porch until day after Thanksgiving. While my neighbors head off to the shopping malls, we stay home and decorate for Christmas.
Mindful breathing morning, and night. Which is completely different from my devotional prayers.😉
Some people feel that praying and meditation are the same thing, but not for me.😊
    We pray before eating.
I love your list. Thank you for sharing your family values with us.

I am a mother of 5 adult/married children now and so much of what you said I 100% agree with. To add to the storage idea of special things my kids each had an under the bed plastic storage container that they put their "favorites" in and then as the school year started each child would go through their container and revisit whether those things were still important to keep or not. This would allow them to clean out the container as well as only keep the truly treasured things.

Love all of these.. we did all of these things when our girls lived at home and am trying to still do that as well have Grandkids. I have found that as a grandma it is easier to speak quieter to my grands and not yell.. maybe my perspective has changed. Looking at the big picture has become easier.
Also putting God first in our lives also helps with everything else on the list.❤

I am a huge advocate for apologizing to your children. For all the reasons you listed, but also because, especially when children are young, their brains are like sponges. Not just for learning everyday things, but deeper, emotional things such as their self-worth. So, if a parent apologizes to their child, it improves their self-image and self-confidence. A myth may be that your child won't respect you if you apologize to them. But the opposite is true, and they may even feel more comfortable talking to you when they are struggling with something. I believe that in certain situations, compromising with your children can have the same benefits because it let's your children know that you hear them. If a compromise is not possible (which does happen), I believe it is important to explain to the child why certain things have to be done in a certain way. In other words, don't just say "because I said so."

I really love all of your list. We are just starting our family and I will say that family traditions is something I want to have with my children but I will say that coming up with or figuring out what to implement is where I get stuck. Would love to hear how you start a tradition or how they come to be for inspiration. I do also agree that allowing messes is the key to unlocking creativity, and when I am home with my daughter while my husband works I am all for playing in the sink or pulling out all the toys and dumping them on the floor, however my husband is less keen on that. When one of your kids gets sick and isn't feeling well and just want to lay on the couch or bed, do they ever ask for tv then? We have had a sickness move through our home and when both my daughter and I were unwell we cuddled on the couch and watched movies which was nice however now she asks for it.

Staying together as a married couple is very important. My husband feel into temptation and got a co worker pregnant. Nothing I could do or say stopped the break up of my family. It lead to both my children rejecting our Christian teachings. When children loose respect for a parent it is hard to keep those Christian values. Yes, loosing the heart of your child is the worse thing. The world wants to drag them away and it takes both parents and a strong home to keep them. You are so blessed to live such a wonderful life.

Hi Steph. I went and checked out your Amazo 0:04 n storefront. I was looking at your list of books.
I notice NR Johnson Saturation Bible Study. Have you guys been to Ellerslie?
I was so excited to see that on your list. Our family just went there this summer from NC to Colorado. It was life changing. We sat under the teaching of Nathan Johnson and Eric Ludy. So incredible!
I love your channel and I was just so shocked to see this book on your list.
I recommend Ellerslie discipleship training to any family looking for a good shaking and awakening.
Extremely conservative, extreme and radical in all the right ways! Completely Christ centered. So refreshing.

Another downside to not eating together at a table every night is that kids don't learn how to pace themselves in social dinner situations. Holiday dinners, etc. They slam that food down in front of the TV in three mins and immediately want to go do something else. I have no idea what dating will look like for them. But holiday dinners have been... Interesting.
