Thank you for the effort in editing, b-roll, and being as concise yet nuanced in your opinions and explanations. You rock!

Dude, what an awesome video! Your lighting was on point. Great practical review. I like how you showed how the light can be used practically rather than just listing some specs. I really appreciate it!
This light is really cool. It would have been nice if the magnetic back of the cage was articulated in some way so positioning is easier. Nice review as usual.
Imagine using this light with some warm or a different striking color with your main light source(s) and lightly smoking your set with this... man the possibilities...
that honeycomb alone would be worth the price of admission. ive been using velcro to stick honeycombs to the front of my other small, flat LEDs. which works, but is a bit janky looking and clumsy to use.

I just recently purchased a Fiveray MC20c Combo and I really liked the product. I think it's a brilliant and innovative tool. But there is one big technical issue that needs to be addressed: I'm just coming from a shoot, with long interview sessions and used the Fiveray as a ultra compact kicker/ rim light. I had it attached to a V-Mount and later with direct power via USB-C. Unfortunately it ran out of battery (despite the power supply) and I wasn't able to use it for the last 3rd of our shooting - which is really a deal breaker for me! Any chance to get a firmware update? Or do I have a faulty unit?
I mean these lights aren’t made to run for hours. I suggest plugging it in or get a light that’s destined to plug in. Personally I would use this light an interview setup, but only a 15-30 minute one.
@@cammackey Makes sense! But still... the option to have plugin-power would be a massive upgrade. Other competitors like the Aputure MC's do work that way.
Excellent video as always but maybe think about the Boling P1 led light. Rgb and had all the same modifiers. Flag diffusion honeycomb etc. I think that it came out about 3 years ago so maybe a little bit ahead of the game. Still available on amazon. Thx
Sick little light for the money! Would be cool if they made the barn doors for the X100V that would be a dream for me. Awesome review man, I feel like I learn more and more cinematography from you every time I watch your videos.
Btw the light dark light background vibe called checkerboarding and the principle is to contrast the subject edges that are lit with dark background and when in shadow against a light background so that establishes a similar mixture of light and dark but the opposite to the subject hence contrast. Not sure i am so convinced by practical lights blazing when it’s clearly during the day and in any real world situation would lights really be on. Its amazing though how often its done in features eg Fincher or deakins in Sicario. There are some scenes in Sicario (when woody harleson enters mr bigs office) that are literally dripping with practicals everywhere but in bright daylight. Personally i think it looks ridiculous when it becomes a cliche and looks forced and unnatural though it is used all the time so i guess that is what passes as cinematic.??! Bizarre. Thx for the excellent video.
Well good thing films are an art form and not real life! Movies are made to tell stories, not to to mimic an our nerdy brains opinions on light. I think sometimes we forget that films aren’t for us, they’re for the masses. And the mass doesn’t give two 💩 about what looks real or not. They watch the story and the visual together as one piece. Unless you wanna talk about documentaries.. then that’s different of course because that is real life. But even then, I would take creative license.
@@cammackey i take your point but deakins specifically doesnt use anamorphic lenses because as he came from a documentary background he doesnt want anything to distract the audience from the scene appearing real. Hence you wont find him using ultra wide lenses like Chivo. I can assure you having nine practical sources in a daylight shot looks odd to anyone. The first question a dp might ask about a motivated light and hence the practical motivating it is does this look real and is it believable. Who leaves a tonne of lights on in broad daylight. Not sure it needs a professional cinematographers eye to answer that one. Sure people suspend their disbelief but given the money spent on films and art direction making things look real and believable its odd that anyone just sprays a frame with practicals but they often do. Its an oxymoron that seems to pass people by much like the overuse of volvo estate cars in movies. Thx for your thoughts and reply.
@@KenFlanagan alrighty haha. Most pro DPs would Prbly laugh at this conversation. Cause it’s bout about rules. It’s about the story. If the story calls for natural cool.. if it calls for anything else, cool. Have fun with all those analytical rules tho brutha! I’ll be out here chasing dreams and making art 🤘🏽
@@cammackey not sure you really understand. Its about ignoring rules and looking at what strikes a normal person as realistic and believable inany given scene within the story to avoid something looking unnatural and therefore distracting from the story. A bit like people always wearing hats inside. For some its a stylistic affectation that they prefer but in a film a decision might be made to take the hat off whilst inside as much as a convention of what is normal but usually on the most basic level that it makes sense to mist people as most people dont wear hats inside. It is the absence of rules such as throw as many practicals into a shot to help spice up the compositional interest that i am trying to highlight and that obsession demonstrated by even one of the most respected cinematographers such as roger deakins (maybe on a bad day) has nothing to do with storytelling. Btw my experience of professional cinematographers is that they are intensely interested in what light and practicals they have to play with in each scene precisely to help tell the story.
