Omg! What a treasure! I am taking on a odd ends big house three weeks project aaaaand part of it is a small hallway where dark blue grasscloth needs to be installed. House owner is a designer so this video brings “some” confidence that I’ll do ok. Will come later and update my comment. It is obvious that this video is selfless sharing of tremendous experience on grasscloth install. For me as a contractor … priceless. And of course, humor is a bonus. Thanks for sharing! p.s. care to share the adhesive of a choice and also when cutting against inside corners and ceiling aren’t you afraid of penetrating into drywall corner tape? 👀 Edit - Finished the job and turned very good considering my first time. It would not be possible without studying your videos for a week! Also I am confused since all the cuts against the ceiling (or any cuts) have definitely compromised drywall tape or caulking. One has to produce great pressure to make a cut and your blade has to be all the time the sharpest, hence tape compromise. Either way I am super appreciative of all of your videos of such complex subject. Thanks Spencer!
Well I haven't watched the entire video yet....But here are my tips for hanging grasscloth. Educate the client on seams and shading. Plan a layout wall by wall that balances the sheets equally in size for a uniform appearance 31"-35" is good but don't go too narrow consider SYMMETRY and using equal narrow strips in opposing corners. If necessary table trim your sheets to that size +1" , plumb line with a pencil each sheet overlap and double cut (blue tape) every seam, this will improve any factory seam or table trim seam 100%. Apply thin coat paste on the wall at every seam and let tack for Velcro effect. Don't use a seam roller period , tap down with a micro fiber towel and or smoothing brush. If you have to roll a seam use a thin strip of the dry material and roll grass to grass. SHADE the sheets before hanging to determine if they need reversing or not. Oh and of course educate your client this is a natural product and will not necessarily be uniform and seams will be present this IS the desired effect. We don't make it, choose it or sell it. We just hang it, don't shoot the messenger. Most doors and windows are more than 30" avoid full sheets meeting over the top with a skinny piece on the side, if unavoidable consider splicing in an offcut alongside the door or window rather than wasting a full sheet this works well in skinny
Looking forward to reading your entire come; I love when pros like yourself share their ideas; I love what you said in the first couple sentences so far!
This is excellent information that you posted; I love the suggestion on the symmetry; and I should have mentioned that in the video because I do that as well; I began on the wall you see first when you enter that room and I love everything you suggested and I find it very interesting
@@Clintotron if it's painted trim caulk BEFORE installing grasscloth. If it's stained wood not necessary to caulk unless you want no gap then use color matching caulk, so painted yes, stained optional. Do all caulking before installation.
This is a great video! Thank you for sharing your pro tips! I'm curious - has any client ever asked you to install grasscloth horizontally? I've been wondering if that's even possible
You used a seam roller on another video with Grasscloth, but not on the next video with Grasscloth. You used a paint roller brush. Was it because you used a different type of Grasscloth? Also we are applying to dry wall so assume we prime the wall first. Enjoyed your videos. Thanks
Use something similar; I am not a man attached to rules; there are many things in your “toolbox “that you could find suitable for this type of thing; too many professionals out, there are making people feel inadequate, and that they cannot do this job… Not true! Anybody can do this job and just simulate what I use and you will be fine
Is the standing on the top of the ladder osha approved?.... Hehe Great series, I'm so glad I came across your videos! I have my first grass cloth project and my coach is on the ICU, I am so happy to have this arsenal!

Is trim over grasscloth caulked? It’s one of the last things that needs to be addressed in my home and I can’t find any information anywhere.

@@capodad2u well, the wallpaper has been up for over a year, now and the walls are NOT straight. Time to get creative. 😂

sound is good another beautiful job. I must admit I'm not crazy about the grasscloth.
It’s beautiful
Wish I could hire you!!
I need a little advice … is it a good idea to hang blank stock on a wall that isn’t perfect before my Grasscloth? Merci!
Yes. Hang it. Wait it’ll it dries. Next day. Roll a thin layer of roman 880 onto it and hang your Grasscloth.
I have Roman 543 will that be acceptable ?
Also, can I use precasted blank stock?
@@joykennedy6428 no way mam. Roman 880
Thank you sooo much! Also pré pasted blank stock or not and will Roman 543 work to hang the Grasscloth ?

Put more glue don’t burn the seam. I always brush the area where my seams are going to land for extra adhesion
Hello,Spencer what is the glue you use on this grasscloth?
Dynamite 234
I just make a level line with a 4' level & pencil.
more time, more money
