Entomologist here! I actually work with twospotted spider mites and persimilis on my research project! Persimilis are widely used in strawberries here in Florida as well and Parabug operates down here too. Great footage, love seeing mites get some recognition!

Do those little red spider mites eat dust mites as well? I'll sometimes see them in carpets but the people living there have absolutely no symptom of bite so they're obviously not feeding on people.

i fully blame farmers for how resilient spider mites are to pesticides. you’ll be able to kill a few spider mites with pesticide, but they quickly adapt and become immune. swap pesticides, they’ll adapt to that one as well.

The majority of strawberry acreage actually uses persimilis, both organic and conventional. It is very effective on a large scale when used correctly and increasingly economically viable with new tech like drones and innovations at the insectary level with improved rearing techniques. There are LOTS of predatory insects for a variety of pests, not just spider mites.
@@redhidinghood9337 I think part of what makes it feasible is that the persimilis treatments are self-limiting (they run out of food and then die off), which is a big plus when considering its usage. Otherwise, there's risk of damaging the ecosystem if what you're adding ends up becoming invasive in some unforeseen way. It's the same principle I've seen when researchers are considering using cordyceps fungi to limit certain insect populations---they need to engineer the fungi in a way where they perform their function, then remove themselves from the environment once they are done.
