Still waiting for my "the educated barfly" cocktail book!! Amazing content as always! I start my week days with your videos every morning and damn what a start!
You’re right on about the yin-yang balance. My best friend of the last 40 years is exactly the same-very calm, quiet, non-confrontational-and I’m the exact opposite. Great video as always!
This randomly popped up in my recommended videos today while I was perusing my bar cabinet so i had to try it. The chartreuse blends in really well and it’s surprisingly balanced despite the lack of sugar. Strong and punchy for sure, and definitely one that benefits from properly dilution, but definitely still in the same space as a classic daiquiri. Thanks for sharing.
@@gangpardos3833 and to make it so nuclear Kim Jong Un wants to add it to his countries weapons arsenal, garnish it with a graphite rock and some dust both harvested from the immediate surroundings of Chernobyl Reactor No. 4
Finally was able to find a bottle of Wray and Nephew overproof. Been looking forward to trying this cocktail for quite awhile. It was delicious! Well played.
I nerded out and went to a proof calculator website.. assuming .5 oz water from the shake, final ABV should be about 30.5, right around a martini... I really love the idea of a funky herbacious sweet-tart martini.. great video!
Shaking dilutes the cocktail of about 25%. So for this cocktail about 3/4oz water. If you look at that 5oz Nick&Nora glass the washline is less of an ounce, but there's foam on top, so I suppose the cocktail was diluted indeed about 25%, or 3/4oz. Non diluted ABV is about 35%, with 3/4oz of water goes down to 28.5%. It's a boozy drink anyway. Stirred Martini is stronger. Yes I'm a nerd too :)
Yo! Loved that you're using Wray & Nephew (whites or white rum as we'd call it) in your mix. Try some more! Boozy is what's trending. PS, greetings from Jamaica.
I can't get John D Taylor's down here. Have you tried making any of the falernum recipes like Falernum no. 9? If so, how did you find it? I'm tempted to commit some Wray and Nephew to it but I'm not sure which recipe to use.
You talk about A LOT of books and they all sound interesting. But for someone who has little to no experience bartending, what should I start with to get a base knowledge?
That drink looks amazing ! I know it would probably change the flavour profile of the drink a little but is there anything that would work in place of the falernum ?
Not sure if it would work taste wise but imagine the colour using midori perhaps instead of chartreuse. To me that would make it more "nuclear" looking.
Looks like a fun daiquiri variation and one to get you hammered if you are not careful. 😅 Btw, have you used the Mixel cocktail app and if so, is it good?
Do u think if ur not into tartness, adding a half ounce of simple or even an herb infused honey syrup would help sweeten and balance out the sour and power?
SO I am noticing as I watch lots of these videos, that my cocktails seem to come out smaller in volume than is shown using same specs. Do I need to use better / tempered ice? Is it my entry level mixology gear? Am I not wearing the right apron? Whatsa deal? Also much thanks, I will be heading over to Patreon to show my support!
Freezer ice takes longer to chill - and hence dilute. Chilling and diluting are two faces of the same coin. If you don't dilute you don't chill. So, your cocktails are underdiluted which also means not chilled enough. Start from here to understand what's happening.
Yeah it’d change the color to a brownish cocktail and you get less proof so less nuclear I guess ☢️ but I’m sure flavor wise it would work just fine and dandy
@@TheEducatedBarfly I really like Smith & Cross and i buyed it because of you (and probably also Greg How to Drink, ahah)...i've already tried to use Smith & Cross instead of Wray & Nephew on other cocktails and it worked but, you know, some specific drinks need to be done with a certain kind of rum or whisky or whatever. I'll give it a chance and see! ;-)
@@Barprints i'll say...it is a rum with a strong personality, no doubt about that, so it leaves its mark on every cocktail you can made with. Anyway, as Leandro said, the colour turns to brown but, to answer your actual question, it worked really well. I'm a bit of a fan, i have to admit, but the final result is great, though. I should try the cocktail with Wray & Nephew to compare...
No garnish on the nuclear daiquiri guys ! I quote Gregor when he presented it : "no garnish could sustain the power of a nuclear daiquiri" You're welcome
He died from radiation off his "nuclear daiquiri" that is the story, for sure. :) I know it is not good joking about dead people but I could not resist.
Ratcheting up the mid-shake-smile to camera there. Steve the Bartender watch out! 😂

Love the nick n Nora glass
Now to make it ridiculously nuclear with a absinthe wash.
Siraphon
And add a dash of agave to disguise the alcohol
Make it even more nuclear by serving it in a uranium infused Nick & Nora

That's Jamaica's "cure all", we use it for EVERYTHING! From drinking to medicinal purposes. Glad you enjoy it
Also would buy the book. Loved that you looked like you pre-sampled one or two when you were shaking :)
Oh, I really want to try this. Am thinking this would be a perfect party drink!
Sounds deadly! 😆
Smiling while shaking yeah na you're not steve hey.🤙🤙
Yes! Love that drink. Improved Chartreuse Swizzle next?
Chartreuse and Falernum is a great combination.

This cocktail has only 3.6 Röntgen. Not great not terrible.
Probably the coolest name ever
Fascinating! Gonna be a rough Monday
I personally think that your Old Salt cocktail is basically a superior version to this :). Everyone who's tasted it has loved it!
Hampus Engsner aww thanks! When I created the old salt I had no idea this cocktail existed, although i must say I do love this drink too!
Whenever I made this drink I always added 0.5 oz simple. It balances it out nicely. Try it out!
Just made myself one, definitely more on the tart side but still not overpoweringly so. Pretty well balanced. Very good!
Keep up the great content 🥂
Just like me, any absolutely any chance of drinking green chartreuse!!!
I actually found your channel when I was searching for Chartreuse on RUclips.
Love to see a video on the pink lady!
Will definitely try as I liked the Old Salt you made a lot.

I just mixed this one! It is indeed very tart, but it ends up growing in you! Very interesting one
The chartreuse in this is really intriguing to me. Definitely need to try this
I heard evil laughter as you poured the drink out...
I was waiting for that Ying-Yang bit to transition into the essence of balancing a proper cocktail, like true Educated Barfly fashion
Do you think paper plane spec would work?
Pretty darn special daiquiri
I tend to use lighter rums in my daiquiris, but I'm really looking forward to trying this one
That looks really good actually! Might try it at home but with a bottle of 100 proof french agricole rum i have!
This is an "imma get smashed in a hurry" drink
Lovely 10/10 will drink
Definitely going to make this. Thoughts on adding a barspoon of simple to it to improve the balance?

OH YES. My kind of drink!
Made this after work. Hoo boy that's strong.
What's the difference between Green and Yellow Chartreuse? Can they be substituted for each other?
Never heard of this one! Interesting spec. W&N rum is "nuclear" all on its own.
I am always suprised how expensive green chartreuse is.
Leandro, where do I get the harder to find ingredients?? Never found a good delivery/website. Im in North SD
Is it called a nuclear Daiquiri because of the Fall-out? Two of these and you fall out of the booth.

6/10 too strong for me.
