I'm from Italy and Maraschino is italian. You're right, Maraschino is pronunced with K. I really like to see how Aperol is used in these cocktails. The Italians associate Aperol only with Aperol Spritz. It's annoing.
Just watched a tutorial from you in 2017. and then this one. oh man I ENJOY your personalities and the fact that Marius is now a frequent speaker :D Please do keep it up!
My vintage cocktail glasses are half the fun of drinking. A cocktail in a plastic cup isn't the same feeling as a quality vintage glass. Can't wait to try this one. Our aperol has been neglected lately.
Just tried to make a Division Bell with the same ingredients, same procedure but slightly different doses: 1 oz an a half of mezcal instead of 1 ounce. Really well balanced!
You were so cheerful in this video, I wondered if you were drunk! ... and we saw Marius! Just a glimpse, but there we are. My girlfriend wanted a "lite" cocktail and I made us a Piña Verde. Kicked our asses. I'm still woozy, and that was last week!
The Division Bell is rung to summon members of the House of Commons to a vote (or division) in Parliament. What that has to do with Mexican Mezcal or Italian liqueur or Amaro, I have no idea. Sounds really good, though. Going to give it a try.
Phil Ward probably only heard the name of the Pink Floyd album (not knowing the album name was inspired by the UK Parliament custom), liked the sound of the phrase, and nicked it for a drink that doesn’t really reference the phrase’s origin or heritage.
I just made a variation of this with tequila and campari instead of mezcal and aperol. It was good. However, I assume the aperol and smokey mezcal make the drink.
I think I have to give your specs a try. So far I tried the specs from Emma Janzen's book Mezcal, which call for double the amount of mezcal with the other ingredients identical to your specs. I like mezcal, but her specs were too mezcal-dominant to be honest. You did get a dryness and a bitterness, but if you weren't told the ingredients you couldn't tell whether these characteristics came from the Maraschino and Aperol or from other stuff. On my second attempt I used her specs again but split the base equally between tequila and mezcal. You now could definitely get the Aperol instead of just generic bitterness. But the Maraschino somewhat vanished, to my surprise. And the mezcal, while still being there, was almost a bit too weak. Seems like the tequila thinned it out to strong and managed to overlay the Maraschino completely. Attempt 3: Your specs. I wonder how they will fare in comparison.
My husband and I are traveling to NYC for Christmas! It will be my first time there! We are staying in Brooklyn but will be going all over! Any recommendations on bars we must hit?? This channel has got us all about craft cocktails!!

So what would someone do if they've been selling this cocktail as their own original for several months without knowing it was a classic? Asking for a friend lol
@@TheEducatedBarfly touche!! I should know better. Mine isnt the exact same though. It's basically a naked and famous sub maraschino (k sound) for chartreuse. Pretty tasty!! You're the man btw, me and my girlfriend watch your videos every night after we close. Were making a trip to l.a. soon well try and catch you at coles!!
Actually tastes quite good! Finally back from business trip, managed to mix it up. The only downside I would say that mezcal overpowers the smell of everything else. I can taste aperol and maraschino but cannot smell them. Maybe that's just me, maybe my mezcal has particularly strong odour. But overall it is a damn good cocktail!
The Ultima Palabra uses mezcal, green chartreuse and Luxardo maraschino with pineapple juice and lime juice. Not to confused with the Pamplona which uses tequila & includes grapefruit, lime and soda water.
@@andrewzimba7432 I have to believe it's going to taste quite similar. Yellow Chartreuse has a very mild flavor which I think is very background in contrast to the Mezcal and Aperol + tart citrus of the lime juice.
Hey Leandro I tried making this cocktail tonight with a mezcal Joven from Oaxaca tonight and the mezcal was so smoky and leathery I could almost not taste any of the acidity of the lime or the maraschino
Gotta be careful what agave type you used. You need to use an espadin which will have citrusy notes and is light on the spice. Sounds like you used a Tobala or something
@@TheEducatedBarfly hey! I actually didn't finish writing this comment and posted it cause I was sleepy 😄 I wanted to say how I could see it be good with a strong tequila. I just checked it is Espadín indeed! The brand is Casamigos and it is their mezcal Joven artisanal mezcal. It may just be a taste thing, it was my first time trying mezcal but I love peaty scotch usually! I was fairly surprised, the mezcal was fairly harsh by itself extremely heavy on the leather and almost rubber notes to me.
I was really impressed by this drink. Other mezcal sours have been... not sure, too sweet and sour to work with that smoke for me, I think. Kind of like Parmesan cheese, riding a fine line between being delicious and smelling a little pukey. This one doesn't try to mask the smokiness, it works with it and the result is lovely.
If I had to buy one bottle of mezcal, what should I get? I can easily find Gusano Rojo which I believe you used in the past already. Would that be a good mezcal for mixing, especially?
@@TheEducatedBarfly According to Food & Wine, "This drink was one of the 20 tequila and mezcal cocktails on Mayahuel's opening menu (there are now about 45 on the list). The name references the Pink Floyd album that Ward listened to over and over while constructing the bar."

You missed it. People at the door were bringing you the awesome Phil Ward cocktail you had chanted for.
Love this album, cant wait to try the drink and also serve it up to my fellow Floydy friends 🤗

@Long Nards omg that makes sense
Very well could be my favorite mezcal cocktail. Very surprised there is no simple and it's still so enjoyable.
I didn't read through the comments to see if anyone said it already but I found it funny that the door bell rang during the division bell episode 😂

I've got some Nick and Nora glases in this style from my grandmother, must be from the late 40, early 50, love this style too.
Vintage glasses are great. And if they have history, even better.
Amazing how you knew what the ppl at the door were wearing 😂😂😂

MarasKino is very much correct. None of the youtube bartenders gets it right, and it kind of grinds my gears. And I’m not even from Italy!
