I have seeked out alot of these cellar defenders over the past year and I've never been disappointed. Perfect for my budget. Love the Volte and Cubillo but my fav was PSI. I had the 2021 last month and I honestly can't stop thinking bout it. Happy Christmas from Ireland!!
Hola John! hope you had a nice holiday. Great video as always. I'll be travelling to Houston next week and definitely will be going to Specs that is in Smith Street and see what bring back with me. Will be going to Vic and Anthonies steakhouse at downtown and enjoy their extraordinary steaks. Take care !
Chateau Lilian Ladouys has been one of my favorite defenders that u recommended earlier this year. I stocked up on the 2020 and everybody I serve it to likes it.
I bought a case of 2017 vintage but didn't find it very interesting compared to other Cru Bourgeois wines and decided not to cellar away the bottles but drink instead it down. Bad vintage perhaps....
Such a great idea to put together these recommendations in one video. Indeed, curating a list of approachable, value-driven wines to “protect” collectible and cellar-worthy bottles is a brilliant idea - it’s something I learned from you, on IG and YT, years before. Thrilled to see two favorites here - G.D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo and Marqués de Murrieta Finca Ygay Rioja Reserva. Impressive list, John!
@@vinvoyage Thanks very much, Margaux! So glad you enjoyed it! Your favorites are both such excellent wines! Hope your holiday season is going well! Cheers!
@@xslash10x Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated. That’s an hour from my house no traffic. Hopefully my local store has it too. I’ll check after I’m back in town. Cheers!
Thank you! Sorry to didn’t enjoy the Diatom. Compared to the other options in the airport lounge, it was like heaven when I tried it last. 😂. But I definitely enjoyed the 20 and 21 vintages more. They seemed to have more minerality. Perhaps they used a different commercial yeast in 22 that contributed more floral notes that vintage.
A lot of the wines where I’m at cost on avg $10 more then what you had said. No problem with that I was just wondering if they’d still be worth the buy
Hmm. Definitely shop around if you can. Have you tried a wine searcher search? B 21 has great prices so you might try them as well. Otherwise I’d say probably it’s ok for the $50 wines but not $25 as that’s a big difference at that price.
A wine that costs less and is ready earlier. Those are wines that you can enjoy while waiting for the pricier and more age-worthy wines to mature in your cellar.
What a terrific selection of your own selections!😁👏 With my increased interest in Thyme-scented reds with dark-ish fruit flavors, it looks like I'll have to allocate some space for the Coudoulet! Having enjoyed my first Diatom (2022), hearing its origin story was fascinating!👍👍 I definitely agree on Beringer KV as a terrific entry-level CS for the KV/Napa area.🍷 For me, Ardanza Reserva may be more of a "Gateway Wine" (I don't know if there is such a term😅😂) to Rioja as it will be my first quality Tempranillo experience. Pikes (2022) was pretty solid, but I personally preferred its Eden Valley counterpart in Pewsey Vale Dry Riesling (2022) because it felt more complex in terms of minerality and more subtlety while being ~20% less.😘🤌
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! Glad you enjoyed the wines. Appreciate your insights re the Pike Eden Valley. And gateway wines are very real! Hope you enjoy the Rioja!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Definitely one of my favorites! I would have included it but I’m not as bullish on the 2021 and that one is out now.
@@AttorneySomm agree - the 2020 has sold out by me... guess we'll have to wait for the 2022... cheers!

@ 17 is definitely not my favorite vintage. 19-20 are a level up for sure. I’m not recommending 21 either.

Hi John, Frisco Costco currently has 2021 Sasciccaia for $240. Great price. I think you should pick up a bottle and do a tasting video!

Great video (as usual) but I have to say that Diatom was hard to drink. Not my preferred style of Chardonnay. It was too floral.

@ i haven’t shopped online yet just at the local shop here. New area and I can’t find a good wine store like I had back in Denver
Damn Merc guy figured you would be Redbull man :)
Ha! 😂👍🍷
A strong preference for reds vis a vis whites?!! All are good suggestions though. thank you.
@@michaelgourlay1746 I typically include more reds than whites, especially in winter. Had 3 whites in this one which seemed about right.
What is a cellar defender? A wine to age?
