Of my 50 something handguns, one of the ones I was most delighted with is my Rock Island Armory Pro Ultra Match "Big Rock". 6 inch barrel, 16 round capacity, and 10mm. Puts all the full sized 9mm handguns to shame.
I bought one about two months ago. As the manual said it takes about 500 rounds to get it broke in. The feed ramp needed a little polishing. Early problems with failures to feed. But now after 1000 rounds of hardball it is very reliable and very accurate. It is not light fully loaded but very stable. I love mine❤ !
I've always loved my p14 45. Para Ordinance made a beautiful limited addition. Used to win pistol competitions with it. Of course during the magazine lies the gov tried to sell made reloads hell to find. Para gave certificates for 2 extra magazines you could purchase. Id buy the Rock Island if it came in long slide. However that one is a prime candidate for 460 Roland upgrade.
I built my custom pistol off a Para-Ordnance frame in .45ACP. Managed to get lucky and snag a bunch of Remington R1 magazines where after they bought Para-Ordnance, they upgraded the magazine from 14 rounds to 15 rounds. They're also compatible with Taylor Freelance extensions that boost the capacity another 3 to 18 rounds, which is a lot of firepower in .45ACP. Usual carry setup for me now is the flush fit magazine concealed with 1 in the chamber (16 rounds total) and two 18 round extended magazines on backup (36 rounds total), totaling 52 rounds of .45ACP. The 14 round magazines should also be compatible with the Taylor Freelance extensions, just boosting to 17 rounds rather than 18. I would caution that the Mec Gar magazines with the "anti-friction coating" seems to have nosedive issues when I tried them. Don't know if it's due to the magazine body shape or the coating. The blued magazines from Armscor directly should work perfectly fine from my limited testing with my 10mm RIA 1911, though.
Great review. I own several brands of pistols. From H&K to RIA. I own 7 RIAs. This one is becoming one of my favorites. I was very impressed with the accuracy out of the box. I disagree with the price being a con. I think a sub-1k double stack .45 that is as quality as the Tac Ultra is quite a bargain. It is a heavy sumbitch. My biggest con regarding this pistol is that it only comes with one dang magazine! Keep up the great reviews.
It's a sweet, pistol. I'm looking forward to adding this one to my collection. It's going to be home defense. I don't think I'll be adding this one to EDC. at 3 lbs fully loaded. Lol. But! Home defense and range day. Hell yea!😎🤘👌
I'm a huge 1911 Fan and a few years ago I scored two High Capacity variations. One was an RIA Double Stack with a Colt Gold Cup Slide on Top. The 2nd an original Para of Canada P14 with a Colt Slide on top of it.. I love FrankenGuns!! I'm also Big on RIA and Tisas 1911's My craziest piece is an Original AMT Hardballer Frame from Arcadia Ca with a WWI 1911 Slide and Hammer both Polished to make them match up. Before the Boo Birds come out and start crushing me for doing this or that..let it be known I got these pieces as basket cases as they are. I cleaned and souped up each to make them not only good looking but 100% reliable and accurate. I'm currently restoring a 1974 Cold Gold Cup National Match that a catalog warrior all but ruined. Waiting on the Correct era Trigger and Collett Bushing now. Lastly trying to RestoMod a Modelo 1927 Sistema Colt ( 1911A1) from Argentina that another clod tried to make a NM Pistol out of with just sights and Slide milling. The Sights have to remain and the aftermarket Trigger will go for something better. Externally the Sights will be all that stands our vs. It's days in the Argentine Army ( Ejercito) Double Stacks can be useful and a lot of fun. I also own an FN FNX without a Threaded Barrel and enjoy it.
I like this, and I do not consider 48-oz 249 Oz weight a particularly heavy firearm. I am 6 ft tall and have never weighed more than 205 pounds, I currently weigh 175. I've carried super Blackhawks. A pair of them for a while. I carry a 1911 full-size regularly. What's a while I carry my CC variant in 40 Smith. It weighs 46 + OZ. I'm thinking of converting it to 357 Sig because I do like the night mm bullet. But it's really hard to get 1350 out of a 9 mm. Especially when the bullet doesn't even function properly until he gets to 1275, at least. But I find this absolutely superb, and none of the loads that you talked about are even warm loads. 185 grain Speer Gold Dot pumped up to about 1150 to 1200 feet per second will get the job done all day long.
As long as there are threaded barrels made for it, it can be converted. All it takes is the addition of a compensator and getting the chamber reamed an extra 1/16" to fit the case. I would prefer to leave the chamber alone an handload 45super cases up to 45000psi, it would be more reliable.
I have one of these myself but I am having difficulty with the magazine, the rounds bind up and I can only fire four or five rounds and then they stop feeding.
Thank you. I have been looking at this and capacity is a big deal. Is there a number on the magazine so I can source them? I was looking to do a P220 Legion but this is much better for a lot of reasons....for me anyway
Thats a very nice HandGun, proven and tested, but I don't have 1 like that, its my choice hand Gun, the RIA Tac Ultra HC 1911 45 cal. He he hefor now can't Afford to have 1...
this gund is reazlly popular for military or law enforcement as we filipinos loved .45 acps, the selling toin is for law enforcers and military its %50 off so 25k php instead of civilian 50k php price
Well, the FNX .45 has an absolute garbage trigger and I can squeeze the grip by the mag well with just a little hand pressure. Flimsy af. Last time I ever buy before I try. Couldn't get rid of it fast enough. So for me, the extra cost of the RIA is 100% worth it.
Hmm, Doggy or Pooh Food, or some weight out in the Woods. Suck it up Buttercup. (I tease but Hunting Holster. With 6 inch Barrel Non-Compensated Barrel. Maybe in 10mm for critters. .40 super Barrel instead? Hmmm, Nice.

Have 1 myself, nice running gun
I have a Para P14 Expert. It's also a double stack, 14 round .45acp 1911. It's a fantastic gun!
If you ever wanna sell that puppy, holla at me, lol.
Great offering from Rock Island. Thanks for sharing the review. I may want my 10mm version to have company.

He did not seem to have that problem. I have heard with RIA it is hit or miss.

If you’re ever looking to sell that P14, I’d love to know!
I got the RIA 52000 which carry’s 17 rounds of the more potent 10mm! Love it!
You did a great video on this Rock Island Arms 2011 TAC model 70 series pistol.

Which extension model is compatible please ?

The nice thing about .45 ACP is, they don't require as many rounds to get the job done,.
Said by every 45 owner ever
@@HunterDillard proven by every 45 owner
Heck yeah!
@@HunterDillard It's true though, like shooting the grains of almost two 9mm's bullets in once 45 ACP.
10mil gets it done too

I want the 6" 10mm version of this soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. D:
Nike. Just do it.
Like mine , well
Now they need to make a version in .460 Rowland -- More punch.

Dude, awesome intro!
I just found a used one I am trading for. I like the fit and feel of it in my hand. ✌👍
I got the 16 rd double stack 10 mm with threaded barrel. Or the smaller caliber as you put it 😅🤣
I've got a TAC Ultra FS HC 1911, and it carries 16 rounds. It's a 10mm rather than a .45 acp
Does the .45 version not have the 5.5" threaded barrel?
sean,
how come when i go to your merch store, there is nothing about the 45 colt,
the original big bore ?
The magwell is cool , its more a outta the box competition gun. Than everyday carry
I have one of these myself but I am having difficulty with the magazine, the rounds bind up and I can only fire four or five rounds and then they stop feeding.
RI acp 45 great gun, the problem is no customer service from Armscor or the parent company
Question...Can the mag well be removed and does it take Para 14 mags?
Question ?
Does this gun have a barrel bushing or is it a bull barrel. Thanks
Bushing
Thank you. I have been looking at this and capacity is a big deal. Is there a number on the magazine so I can source them? I was looking to do a P220 Legion but this is much better for a lot of reasons....for me anyway
That's the one (1)! to Convert to the ROLAND 460.
The weight would not bother me. I would just get an Andrews Leather Monarch Shoulder Holster and go with that.
Thanks for sharing. How does the grip thickness compare to a Glock 21?
My 1 problem I had with it was the magwell it pushed into my palm but I have enormous gorilla hands but other than that it is great
What holster do you use for this gun?
Good review. Where can we find grips for this? Are they only available from the place you mentioned?
Love your videos thanks
a double stack 45acp that be nice.
Is it a single action or double
Anyone know for sure if that magazine fits and feeds the BBR 3.10?
Sir, in your opinion, would the RIA Tac Ultra be a good candidate for a 40 Super conversion?
Some are being punched to 460rowlad, that's hotter than a 40 super
Do the 10 mm variant or BBR
Great video Bro., & a DANG GOOD GUN!!!!aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa👍👍🤟🤘😄😆🤣😆
Soo anyone been able to get the specs or holster for this?
Thats a very nice HandGun, proven and tested, but I don't have 1 like that, its my choice hand Gun, the RIA Tac Ultra HC 1911 45 cal.
He he hefor now can't Afford to have 1...
I have both the para p 14 an the tac ultra fs hc they both use the same mec- gar mags
made in which country?
Philippines
Is your back hurting you ?
So NOW what will the 1911 haters say? “It’s a hammer fire!” “It’s still for a Fudd!” “But it’s so heavy!” Whatever.
I could care less what anyone else thinks...
You Never Die fire Firearms.
45 super in that gun??
this gund is reazlly popular for military or law enforcement as we filipinos loved .45 acps, the selling toin is for law enforcers and military its %50 off so 25k php instead of civilian 50k php price
I have that pistol in 45 and 10MM
Me too!!
I too, have that in .45HC , 10mm HC, and the .40 match grade double stack by RIA. The trifecta.
Good video on this pistol. Are the mags it takes the p-14 mags?
Yes I have them
Very cool 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
My EDC is a Springfield operator so weight is not a thing
Loving it but just too expensive.
I don’t think the Misses is gonna like you saying she’s as heavy as a tank
❤
G. K. U.S.A. wouldn't a 6" 460 Rowland be nice, especially in bear country? This would be the answer to the 10mm, also in 6" barrel.

Check out a sar k2 45acp
I found some P14 mags at a gun show here in Vegas. The vendor was being a dick, so I only bought one.

I've the critter you described in 10mm good deer gun
Now that you mentioned it, i cant unsee the Magwell now. Pass
You get what you pay for is still relevant
For real it not the same as a different 1911 that holds 8.
Did you draw your facial hair on 😂
Ah, but will it take glock mags....
.45 ACP is practically a peashooter
