In swedish, whenever there is a "ng" sound followed by the letter "n", it will be spelled as "gn". So just imagine her name is spelled "Angnetha".

@@elledaniels3176 As an Indian, my native language also has a "gn" letter where the stress is on the pronunciation of the n similar to what she is making and the g sound is absent, g is like a guidance to have your tongue in that position to pull that distinct n sound. Wondering if it is similar in Swedish.
Mike still pronounced it wrongly after she told him the right way!
That's because he was such a poor interviewer and rubbish presenter, Agnetha looked so unimpressed by his questions 🙄
Enough said ... you're ABBAsolutely correct! :-)
Its just diffiuclt. Swedish is an easy language to learn for english speakers, grammatically speaking but pronounciation is very difficult, especially since we use pitch-accents and such. Although the pitch-accent isn't what the problem is here, it is still interesting.
A pitch-accent language is a language that has word accents in which one syllable in a word or morpheme is more prominent than the others, but the accentuated syllable is indicated by a contrasting pitch (linguistic tone) rather than by loudness, as in a stress-accent language. Pitch-accent also contrasts with fully-tonal languages like Standard Chinese in which each syllable can have an independent tone.
Languages that have been described as pitch-accent languages include most dialects of Serbo-Croatian, Slovene, Baltic languages, Ancient Greek, Vedic Sanskrit, Tlingit, Turkish, Japanese, Norwegian, Swedish, Western Basque,[1] Yaqui,[2] certain dialects of Korean, and Shanghainese
The extinct language Proto-Indo-European, the putative ancestor of most European, Iranian and North Indian languages, is usually reconstructed to have been a free pitch-accent system. ("Free" here refers to the position of the accent since its position was unpredictable by phonological rules and so could be on any syllable of a word, regardless of its structure.) From comparisons with the surviving Indo-European daughter languages, it is generally believed that the accented syllable was higher in pitch than the surrounding syllables. Among daughter languages, a pitch-accent system is found in Vedic Sanskrit, Ancient Greek, the Baltic languages and some South Slavic languages, although none of them preserves the original system intact.

@@dewaldvisser2948 It is ang. In Swedish when the ng (like sing in English) has an N after you get rid of the n in ng for spelling reasons.

Tah
Put more stress on "NE" than the other syllables.
Ang _Ne_ Tah
She clearly said.. Ag knee etha
@@JohnSmith-uy7sv Nope, listen again. I´ve known a lot of people named Agneta, and they all pronounce it as I explained, and as she says.
She says "Ang", not "Ag", "Ne" not "Knee" and "Tah" not "Etha". If there had been a "knee" sound in her name and pronouced as you suggest it would have been spelled something like "Aggniettha". The ee-sound in knee is spelled "i" in Swedish. There is no i in her name. The It´s not the ee-sound as in knee, but the ea-sound as in ear, near or beer. In addition there is no (Russian) njet-sound in her name either, and not "th" sound. We don´t have the th-sound of words like the, that in Swedish. The name is Agneta, the h in her name is just there without making any sound.
It´s the same with the names Agne and Agnes in Swedish. It´s not "Agg knee", but "Ang neh" and not "Agg ness", but "Ang ness".
Sorry, even the interviewer says ag knee itha. I have listened to it 5 times and it is the same. Yes, I always thought it was your way, but, she says it is not.
@@JohnSmith-uy7sv He says "Ag Netta", and she corrects him and says it´s "Ang Ne Tah", and then he says it wrong again "Ag njeta" and she politely nods you can see in her eyes and body language that she realize it´s a bit of a lost cause getting him to say it right. He doesn´t say "Knee", or "itha" though, and she definitely doesn´t say that. She says "Ang Ne Tah". Just like any Swede, myself included, would say it. No "ag", no "knee" and no "itha". Listen to it in slower speed if you´re not able to catch that in normal speed.
You can go to Forvo and listen to two people (in different Swedish dialects) pronounce Agneta just like I´ve said "Ang Ne Tah" and you can also hear the obvious difference from how it sounds in German, where they say "Ag Knee Tha" similar how you say it´s pronounced. But that´s not how it´s pronounced in Swedish, and that´s not how Agnetha Fältskog pronounced her name in Swedish.
@@JohnSmith-uy7sv it's definitely "ang", not "ag". trust us, we're both swedish and it's a common swedish name! :P it may be hard to hear the difference for foreigners, but i clearly hear the "ang" sound :)
