Her tone is indeed most graceful. Her enunciation is also unusually clear and crisp, even to Swedish ears. Somewhat grand and old fashioned, but she makes it sound very appealing. An English equivalent would be Received Pronunciation. The other band members speak with a relaxed Stockholm accent. Her way of speaking is quite typical for those of her generation who had to learn proper Swedish to hide a rural or foreign background. Quite a few can identify with her. The dialect continuum in Sweden and Norway is extensive and do sometimes intermingle. Some dialects can be really peculiar. While Norway allows a vast array of dialects in official settings, Sweden does not. From the 1920's and up until not that long ago you had no option - you either acquired a proper urban accent, or had to face limited prospects. It's less strict nowadays.
There is a great intrinsic quality to the music that has often been overlooked due to the Pop package in which it comes, but if you consider that ABBA produced themselves from the very first record (mainly the guys, but not only), you have to give the group credit for their undeniable genius. I've heard loads of cover versions of their songs, yet not a one comes close to the perfection of the original recordings, including the vocals. Hats off.

RUclips and its suggestions are going to wreck my sanity! In a good way... I think? :-) Interviews like this give a real insight into the people they were, and still are, thankfully. And it makes me think back to what 14 year old me was doing then... which was mainly ignoring Abba & chart music and diving deep into prog rock and anything Tommy Vance played on the (UK) Friday Night Rock Show! Abba did not feature other than as part of the general soundtrack to life. But they've been part of that soundtrack now for 40+ years, whereas the prog rock... well, it's still part of who I am, but I rarely fire up any of those "heavy" albums. But I do add new Abba songs to my playlist every week, it seems (especially this week!) In fact I'm playing their old albums for the first time now, because I only ever heard the big singles. And while albums from any artist can often disappoint, it's proving to be a real journey of discovery. Ok, I'm discovering that they are mere mortals who made some really average music, but that just helps make them more real, in a way... not Abba the mythical hit machine, but Abba the working musicians, finding their way at a time when the pressure was really on to generate the next hit and the next tour and the next percentage for all the business folk who need their geese to keep laying the golden eggs. Interviews like this really help us understand what all that must have been like... and also why Anni-Frid and Agnetha were determined to stay away from the media in the run up to the new album release. Why dive into that shark pool again if you don't have to? They've given us more than enough of themselves in their glorious, uniquely combined vocals. Thanks to them all, and thanks for uploading this interview. :-)
all of the comments are about frida but ive never been able to pick a favourite, frida and agnetha are both so beautiful but look so completely different
Great interview, especially that the members got to express their annoyance at media stereotyping and lasciviousness among other demeaning misrepresentation of their creative talents. Conversely, I still can't understand how these two pretty ordinary looking guys lost possibly the two most glamorous women of that era and fall away from an amazing span of time when they were the world's most dominant name in pop music.
Agnetha relaxed and comfortable. She seems she'd rather be anywhere else in those international interviews. Frida is usually confident and not shy in any situation, but the guys carry the conversation in the international pressers. My impression of the four. Fantastic interview where they are themselves. Engaged and relaxed.
Frida was that groups natural leader. She also was the natural front and center performer entertainer pro. The Swedish media knew this. The intl press did not know. The media were horrible in regards to ABBA. They lacked an understanding, that this group had a super high level of musicality musicianship. Frida was Stikkan 'Stig' Anderson's golden girl. She checked all the boxes.. ABBA:Bright Lights Dark Shadows The Real Story of ABBA By Carl Magnus Palm
@@Davey7358 Agnetha had the pin-up lable attached to her early on, even before ABBA. Frida had the talent, performer label attached to her. There is a reason. Frida is obviously gorgeous, but her keen ear, vocal skills and control defined her since grade school. Her good looks were secondary to her vocal and performance skills. As an artist, you want your skills/talent to be talked about, not your looks or your butt (Euro article). Agnetha largely got defined by her blonde hair which fit the Swedish stereotype and by that Euro butt article. Yes, Frida has been called the "Dark beauty with the glorious voice" but her skills were what has always defined Frida. People also mentioned her fit body, legs...but her vocal talent, keen ear, control is what defined her. Pre ABBA: Frida - Sweeping talent hunts, stage, theater, cabaret, TV and radio shows -- ALL LIVE! That was Frida before ABBA. That is how she earned her stellar reputation among her peers. Her reputation among peers began in grade school. Frida did not come from a record label marketed/generated pop singer. They are tons of pop singers like that. Frida was an actual professional working vocalist that came from the stages. Performing vocal centric genre songs. Agnetha: A record label managed and generated pop singer, who wrote some of her own songs. That is who Agnetha was before ABBA. She was not a LIVE front and center performer. Not a front and center live performer with lights, cameras, and LIVE to air/national TV. That was Frida. A huge difference between studio and working live. Studio is controlled. On stage, your exposed and your talents or lack of, will make or break you. Frida excelled.
@@Davey7358 There is a reason Agnetha was not featured like Frida was during live shows and concerts. Why? Due too Agnetha's pitch and other technical issues that were exposed in live environments. Also, Frida loved the stage and performing. It was Frida's roots since she was in grade school - performing on stage. _____ Agnetha was marketed in the media as the pin-up , not as the talented one. Frida just did her thing, and most people eventually figured out that the brunette was really talented. No shielding or smoke and mirrors with Frida. Frida was the real deal. There has always been a bit of shielding of Agnetha. Those who pay attention start no notice this as they learn about ABBA. Even the Agnetha centric echo chamber fans on social media know this, hence, the reason for the intense effort to change history. But all is documented for those that wish to dig into ABBA and the girls reputations and abilities. ____ Re: foursome before they were officially a foursome. They worked together. Fall of 1970, live radio show. They all performed, LIVE-to-air, in front of a studio audience in radio studio. Frida once again excelled. Only Frida's solo was put on a record - 'Barnen Sover' Benny on piano. Bjorn on guitar. No Agnetha participation. 'Barnen Sover' studio version on 'Frida' album. 'Barnen Sover' live version on Frida, 1967-72, album. Agnetha also sang a solo song too, but not good enough to put on record. ____ Winter of 1970-71. The cabaret shows! Failure! All four were nationally known, so the media covered the shows. Agnetha got called out for her off-key, pitch issues, etc... Frida, who are the time was not committed to the foursome. She left. No future foursome. No future ABBA! It looked like they were done. It took Stig Anderson/Polar Music and a sweet contract to secure Frida. Frida signed a Polar Music solo contract and also agreed join Benny, Bjorn and Agnetha. Frida had been reluctant to join a pop group, which was a big comedown from the more challenging vocal centric genres for which she preferred. But pop was more lucrative. Stig Anderson Polar Music was the boss, but Frida had all the pull. She understood the business. She also knew her value. In 1972, Stig and Frida signed a deal. Frida was now all in. Stig eventually named the foursome ABBA.

Frida and Benny married in 1978, after a 9 year engagement. I only recently learned that Benny ended his marriage to Frida after 2 years, and broke her heart, telling her he'd met another woman. Poor Frida! He married that other woman, a TV presenter, pretty much as soon as his divorce came through. They had one son together (he also has two kids by his first marriage in the 'sixties). When Benny and Frida met, they shared in common having a failed marriage and two children who lived with their ex spouse. They never had any kids together. Bjorn also re-married soon after his divorce from Agnetha, and remained with that woman, in his case a music journalist. They had two daughters together, to add to the son and daughter he had with Agnetha.
If anyone is wondering, I can confirm that the subtitles here are really quite excellent. I've seen quite a few interviews where as much as 40% of what was said was lost in translation, but Malin clearly knows how to translate our Swedish phrases and idiosyncratic expressions into English that makes sense. As for the interview itself? If I didn't know who they were, there's no way I'd ever think they were famous. Attractive, yes, but they're so down to Earth that you'd probably find more flashy people next door. They're just like everyone else over here. Me and my friends and family all talk with each other in this low-key way.
I am very happy with the subtitles, and with that translation next to it, I can get the gist of much of the conversation, because there are quite a few similarities between Swedish and Dutch... As far as I can tell it was translated really well indeed :) There's only one word that seems a little bit off: they are talking about that little musical surprise during the tour (7:38) and then the subtitles mention "seventeen bows". I have the impression Agnetha was talking about seventeen string instruments (as in violins and such), because the Swedish word Agnetha uses (stråke?) resembles the Dutch word 'strijker', that we sometimes use for string instruments.
@@ozzert As a swede, I can confirm this. Agnetha was talking about string instruments using a bow. This refers to string instruments like violin and cello. And stråke means bow in english. That's why it said "seventeen bows" in the subtitles, but it was an inaccurate translation. So I understand the confusion. It should have been translated into: "We're going to use seventeen stringinstruments with bows" Or something like that.
@@antonwiderberg7571 Thank you for this clarification! I wasn't aware that 'bow' is the name of that 'stick' they use with string instruments; that also makes the choice for 'bows' less strange than it seemed to me at first, though I agree that 'bow instruments', or what you said would have been better :)

And he is cute and funny. 😊
@@danbike9the song " Gonna Sing You My Love song" is so good. Fridas voice really shines. Clear and strong. Indeed!
Frida's tone of voice is beautiful
I've always thought so! She doesn't even need to sing to sound like she's singing
@@redoktopuss1581 Her voice is like velvet, deep and still female, carrying emotions so well
Her tone is indeed most graceful.

ABBA, STILL THE BEST MUSIC RECORDED IN HISTORY, AND WERE WRITING 2021, RESPECT😉😘😜

So unbelievable down to earth...❤❤❤❤

Great interview, especially that the members got to express their annoyance at media stereotyping and lasciviousness among other demeaning misrepresentation of their creative talents. Conversely, I still can't understand how these two pretty ordinary looking guys lost possibly the two most glamorous women of that era and fall away from an amazing span of time when they were the world's most dominant name in pop music.
Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman,Fryda,Agnetha,Roxette; all of them Swedish beauties.
ABBA:Bright Lights Dark Shadows
The Real Story of ABBA
By Carl Magnus Palm
@@danbike9 Frida may have been the leader, but Agnetha was the one who outshined them all.
Pre ABBA:
Frida -
Sweeping talent hunts, stage, theater, cabaret, TV and radio shows -- ALL LIVE!
Agnetha:
A record label managed and generated pop singer, who wrote some of her own songs.
Агнета не красавица и певица студийная. Как она могла затмить всех? Вечно плачущая простушка.
_____
Agnetha was marketed in the media as the pin-up , not as the talented one.
____
Re: foursome before they were officially a foursome.
____
Winter of 1970-71.

@@Cobbido her mother is Norwegian, and her father is German. She was born in Norway, but moved to Sweden as a young child. Even if she doesn't have "Swedish blood," she is still culturally Swedish.
@@tawnypelt1360 It would be rather unlikely for a Norwegian to have "no Swedish blood at all".

I've seen quite a few interviews
where as much as 40% of what was said was lost in translation, but Malin clearly knows how to translate our Swedish
phrases and idiosyncratic expressions into English that makes sense.
As far as I can tell it was translated really well indeed :)
There's only one word that seems a little bit off: they are talking about that little musical surprise during the tour (7:38) and then the subtitles mention "seventeen bows".

I find it kinda sad. They all wanted it and worked so hard. Now their just starting to see the trap they've built. I do love the Swedish interviews. They just seem to ask more contemplative questions. The band is more at ease and willing to open up more. And yes both women are drop dead gorgeous. Both have an inner beauty that shines uniquely.
