LOTD Then And Now: Breakout Rehearsal (featuring the 1996 OG Troupe and 2022 LOTD25 Troupe)

Girl power! It's time to spotlight the amazing women of Lord of the Dance with a rehearsal video of Breakout, featuring both the legendary 1996 OG Troupe and the 2022 Lord25 Troupe.
Considering how testosterone-driven Lord of the Dance is, it's important to remember that Team Lord also has the finest female Irish dancers in the world. Breakout is the one dedicated female-only hardshoe number in the show, and notably, it's also the first moment of conflict in the story: up until this point, the entire first act is completely expository, introducing you to no less than five main characters. But here, we see the first clash between light and dark, with Saoirse and Morrighan encountering each other.
In rehearsal format, we strip away the layers of plot and subtext and focus solely on the raw dancing. What's most interesting is how the formations have evolved; the original Lord of the Dance was put up in only ten weeks, and while the rhythm patterns are the same, the formations have dramatically changed.
It's no secret that there are more female Irish dancers in the world than male Irish dancers. Thus, the competition to get into Michael Flatley's billion-dollar show, the flagship of commercial Irish dancing, has always been unbelievably ferocious -- but for those who make it, the experience is like none other.
