@fl_atv_riders4455 right. But the reason a 4 cylinder turbo swap into a ford truck makes sense is the SVO mustangs. And the ecoboost is just the next turbo 4 in the line uo.
I'd love to do an Ecoboost swap into a Cobra replica just to really piss people off. But also, I expect dropping 200 lbs off the typical V8 will do wonders for the handling.
The last Aussie Ford Falcon's from about '14 on, had the 4L Barra 24v Six and the 2L ecoboost 4, and performance was near identical with the big six @ 262hp and the 4 pot turbo at just 228hp, but weighing less, and getting better fuel economy !!
Bet it's quicker than the mustang it came out of. These trucks are a good bit lighter. My 1969 f100 ranger short bed with a 351w , me, my wife and a 80lb toolbox tips the truck scales at only 3,753lbs. I weigh 160, wife weighs 150. ill try and make a more descriptive video on the details. Its an oem mustang ecoboost engine harness that is modified to run standalone. Trimmed down to whats necessary. ECM has pats removed and then we tune to get it right in the vehicle
I seriously doubt those mpgs. I went through a turbodiesel phase, and a guy on a forum dedicated to Isuzu NPR 3.8l swaps built a truck just like that, T56 6 speed, Thunderbird IRS, and the Isuzu four banger. THE, capital T THE, appeal of this was primarily getting a fullsized truck to 25-28 highway mpg, with maybe some wick turned up, mid 200ish hp. Which is what he achieved. I find it difficult to believe that an older truck, with a presumably worse drag, is making twice the real world mpgs of the donor vehicle, and putting down numbers usually achieved by a sub 150hp four cylinder under 3000lbs. Diesels can run as lean as you could desire, gas engines are stuck with stoichiometric fuel ratios or detonation, so either its way under 320hp, way under 35 mpg, or both.
@@capillarysystem the most ubiquitous diesel are the 77-85 Mercedes Benz 5 and 4 cylinders. However, I've always wanted to have a go at a TDI. If you want to hotrod it and fab/adapt everything, those Isuzu NPR 3.8l have a lot going for them. Like, "a stock headgasket is good for 60psi of boost" going for them.
@kneedragon76 this was mostly for simplicity. The 2.3 is a much easier to work on and we were going for best mpg possible. The 2.7 and 3.5 are power houses with a tune so we may offer them in swap in the near future
@craig-up3uv thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately the truck is already sold and the new owner is very happy. We are starting a new build which I'll be posting videos of soon.
Weight is a huge factor. This truck is about 800-900lbs lighter than the 2.3l ranger. Also this build was not equipped with a cat which results in a surprising mpg increase
Highway mpg has ALOT to do with aerodynamics. Gearing is also a huge factor. I doubt the new ranger can barely get 22 mpg on the highway w a 2.3. Should do better than that.
@curveball1318 we have another build with the same setup and plan on dropping some videos explaining how we improve mpg over stock equipped vehicles. We did see 35 on this truck but average was 30-32 highway
We understand the skepticism. This is the 2.3l 4 cylinder. This truck weighed just under 3200lbs when finished. It also had an emissions systems delete which has a significant effect on fuel economy. We will be dropping some videos of fuel economy testing and beating on this setup.

The last Aussie Ford Falcon's from about '14 on, had the 4L Barra 24v Six and the 2L ecoboost 4, and performance was near identical with the big six @ 262hp and the 4 pot turbo at just 228hp, but weighing less, and getting better fuel economy !!
really Nice truck
Have you considered switching out to the Ranger camshafts for increased torque to pull a trailer
Bet it's quicker than the mustang it came out of.
These trucks are a good bit lighter. My 1969 f100 ranger short bed with a 351w , me, my wife and a 80lb toolbox tips the truck scales at only 3,753lbs. I weigh 160, wife weighs 150.
So, subtract 390lbs from 3,753lbs,
that's only 3,363lbs.
Not bad for a truck.
The eco mustang is like 3500 lbs w better aero. I doubt it's faster in this truck. I also doubt the weight you're claiming. Even the new aluminum body f150 is over 4000 lbs w reg cab short bed w v8.
There is no way poss9ble a 69 f100 w a 351 is 3300 lbs stock. That's almost as light as a fox body lol. Come on now man I hope you don't actually believe that lol
@@midnight347 well you're welcome to come down to Georgia and come to SLM Recycling and watch me drive it across the scales . And, you can be the one to pick up the ticket and read the numbers yourself.
Also, look up the specs on Google.
It says a factory 1969 small block v8 2wd short bed f100 weighs 3,440 lbs.
Soooo......🤷
Where did you source your engine and transmission?
Nice! 👍
Nice truck.
How much does it weigh?
I have a 65 fairlane and im thinking about this swap .
What exhaust system?
Details man, lol. Stock mustang harness, custom? Cool build.
ill try and make a more descriptive video on the details. Its an oem mustang ecoboost engine harness that is modified to run standalone. Trimmed down to whats necessary. ECM has pats removed and then we tune to get it right in the vehicle
Cool.
I do see the speedometer doesn’t instantly track, jumps to the final speed.
10 speeds....
What is ur recommendation for a cheap diesel engine in the US that sounds good when turboed but still has the good mpg? Thanks
@@Shi7boxGarage A late-model Mustang with this powertrain - and superior aerodynamics - is rated at around 30 mpg highway.
Not limited to stoich for sure. Sans cats it breathes easier too.
cool
amazing but why not a 3.5?
@kneedragon76 this was mostly for simplicity. The 2.3 is a much easier to work on and we were going for best mpg possible. The 2.7 and 3.5 are power houses with a tune so we may offer them in swap in the near future
Love the truck what I meant
Love that picture Rick great job!! Wanna sale it?
@craig-up3uv thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately the truck is already sold and the new owner is very happy. We are starting a new build which I'll be posting videos of soon.
How much?
Love it
Very nice
with 4 wheel drive you might get like 28 or so? not too shabby
It’s crazy how that can get 35 miles to the gallon but a new Ranger can barely get 22. It’s not all about aerodynamics.
Weight is a huge factor. This truck is about 800-900lbs lighter than the 2.3l ranger. Also this build was not equipped with a cat which results in a surprising mpg increase
@@ecoswaphow is it that much lighter than a new ranger? Isn't this a full size pickup?
Highway mpg has ALOT to do with aerodynamics. Gearing is also a huge factor. I doubt the new ranger can barely get 22 mpg on the highway w a 2.3. Should do better than that.
Im in vegas , how much?
Curious how much is the truck?
Unfortunately the truck is sold. We do offer this swap into most f100's broncos and we are currently working on support for 1965-1972 mustangs.
Nice
DUDE!
I would of used a buick 3800 series 2 and a cam so it sounds like a v8
For all of you that actually believe this thing gets 35 mpg, I've got some oceanfront property in Kansas City I'd love to show you.
@@curveballintx thank you!
@curveball1318 we have another build with the same setup and plan on dropping some videos explaining how we improve mpg over stock equipped vehicles. We did see 35 on this truck but average was 30-32 highway
I believe OP, my 2021 2.3 AWD Exploder gets roughly 27-28 mpg hwy and weights a lot more than a 67 f100
2023 F150 Eco boost 24 miles to gallon. This thing is 35. I think your speedometer is off.
We understand the skepticism. This is the 2.3l 4 cylinder. This truck weighed just under 3200lbs when finished. It also had an emissions systems delete which has a significant effect on fuel economy. We will be dropping some videos of fuel economy testing and beating on this setup.
How is he supposedly getting better fuel economy then the mustang it come out of.
I’d imagine it’s lighter and turned lol
@racercalvin is around 800lbs heavier and way less aerodynamic. Unless he never goes past 50 mph, this truck will never get 35mpg.
He says running at 65 MPH, range 32-35 MPG.
@JoeStoppinghem point exactly I can't get that in a mustang going 65
I can after race prep and strip with my wife(113lbs) driving at a total fighting weight of 1,995.2lbs🥊🥊🥊🥊
Amazin’ build. I need to call you bc we are building a 1968 f100 with the same swap. I love the shifter and the paddle shifter setup. I need to use that instead of the stock setup. Check out out our build:
RUclips:
Cannon bottom creations
The 300 six well out last that motor 3 or 4 times
Ya know....I'm very inclined to agree with you. In 25 years as a master technician and 17 as a senior master with FoMoCo.....I'm very inclined.
These engines can last 100s of thousands of miles if maintained properly. Lots of ecos don't get maintained properly.
@@midnight347 they can, and yes, they're not.
man i want one shut up and take my $
And no vacuum brake booster
Must be weird shifting all the time with a 10spd AT.
Might need power brakes with 320hrsprs
Manual brakes will do....
I am not impressed with all that electric junk I would just put around and enjoy life
We should appreciate his efforts with kinder words sir.....although this truck would be bitchin with a large FE under the hood.
Might as well put a bud light wrap on it too.
Looks like you took a simple truck put electronic junk on it
😂
