      I think with the I Care clip in the belting segment youve overlooked her intentionally employing a raspy vocal treatment as an attempt to impart passion/soul in the performance. So that was a bit unfair to use that instance as an example of how she sings that note as standard. Plenty of other D5s that wouldve been more representative of her vocal ability on that note and thus making your great analysis even more accurate.

      @@allykelly It was definitely stylistic in my opinion. Shes a technician and perfectionist and would never put that out there if it wasnt intentional. Plus said clip stands as an outlier to her many other D5s so to use it as an example of how she produces D5s is flawed. @ally kelly The sarcasm is unnecessary. You're a content creator. You gotta be open to criticism and take it in good faith, especially where I approached you politely, bringing up a genuine concern with a reasonable explanation. Zero fanaticism or bias here. I just think choosing what is arguably a stylistically approached note and using that as a part of your analysis diminishes the overall efficacy and accuracy of said analysis. Especially when Beyonce isn't known to crack and sound gravelly. If said sound isn't a standard or common reflection for her, then how is it relevant in a vocal analysis? You annotated the clip by questioning was she sick? If you thought that was a possibility, then said clip perhaps shouldn't have been used as a part of an analysis on how she generally sings. It would be an outlier and therefore irrelevant. Not coming for you, so if my tone in any of this makes you defensive then forgive me, just giving feedback

      @@GarageStudio7 I think it’s because she doesn’t produce scores and scores of ballads, most likely due to timing. She became prominent when the ballad era was fading. And her musical style is 20-30% ballad and 70-80% uptempo. If Beyonce debuted in the 90s we’d have gotten a classic that’s mightier than Listen or Halo.
      She’s already proven to us that she could produce great power ballad. Her voice is emotive enough to pull that off but I know she’ll never do that.

      @squarcircle2254 2 года назад +8

      @@GarageStudio7 the general public also recognizes Beyonce as a phenomenal vocalist (and she’s a much superior vocalist to Ariana). But like Beyoncé, Ariana is recognized more as a performer with a whistle register (which is where the majority of the “phenomenal vocalist” you talked about comes from). The average person thinks whistle register = phenomenal vocalist, the end. My point is that Beyonce (and vocalists like Tori, sorry Ariana) would be recognized as even more so, if she debuted in the 90s power ballad era.
      There was greater attention on JHud for 3 reasons: 1) The story was about Effy, the underdog, who was the MC of the movie (and not Deena). 2) Deena’s character was based off of Diana Ross and it was revealed that they wanted Beyonce to strip back her vocals to resemble Diana’s dainty, much less powerful vocals. That’s why her vocals were so so light in the movie. 3) JHud’s a far greater actress than Beyoncé, so her acting would be more gripping (though Beyoncé’s portrayal of Diana Ross as Deena, especially in the audition video, found here on YT, was almost Oscar-worthy).

    • @GarageStudio7
      @GarageStudio7 2 года назад +2

      @@squarcircle2254 I know she's a technically a superior artist but I've heard more people in the general public belittling Beyonce's vocal talent than Ariana's vocal talent. Same as Tori Kelly. Jojo and so on. Yebba as well.
      You have a point about Beyobce stripping back her vocals but many have noted that she actually didn't strip it back to match the character because not only were her vocals still impressive but she was given a ballad like Listen and that wasn't soft at all which was supposed to be her moment as well. It also didn't match the character because apparently Deena was supposed to have a subpar voice.
      People were moved by Jennifer Hudson because she has the kind of voice that moves people it's as simple as that. If they gave that same part to Ciara, Alicia Keys and so on, it wouldn't have had the same impact.
      Many have even commented that Jennifer Hudson's name wasn't even in the movie posters. That's how obscure she basically was then.
      If it was someone like Whitney playing Deena and giving a song like Listen, best believe most would have hailed her rendition. Also, it's not like Beyonce's listen isn't popular because it truly is but for some reason most aren't as moved as they are with voices like Jennifer's.

    I really loved the whole thing, so detailed!
    I think her low notes are great when she’s not moving haha the choreo really steals her breath and stamina maybe but it’s still very impressive how she manages to sound amazing, usually her best notes are when she’s just standing still or sitting that’s what I noticed…you covered all the points again, both good and bad. I’m really a big fan of her use of dynamics and different vocal textures like the growl. Love her runs especially the ‘ego’ one and the Arabic style she does, but sometimes they don’t sound natural like Mariah or Tori but very rehearsed when they have the same ascending-descending scale patterns…don’t know how to explain that😅 but her agility is top notch for sure.
    For the 5th octave head voice I like the vibrato she adds it’s so pretty.
    Overall she’s a great vocalist who has inspired so many singers, not to forget also a great performer…it’s not easy to do what she does. Every singer has their negatives and positives, it’s normal…she’s human too so people shouldn’t get offended if her negative points are being discussed upon too...It doesn’t take away the fact that she’s still very good.😅 superb video!

    basically she is strong in all registers, possibly even more well-rounded than the vocal trinity. Great lows, great belts, great head voice, incredible agility, great vocal dynamics, great breath support, great vibrato, great intonation, even while dancing. The only reasons why some people don’t consider her at the level of the vocal trinity are:
    -she’s younger than them and some people are reluctant to give newer artists the legend status
    -she doesn’t have as many power ballads as the other 3 have
    -she is more well-known as a performer and this diverts the focus from her sheer vocal brilliance
    -while she does have a beautiful warm, womanly tone it may be not as distinctive as Whitney’s (she was the voice, she had an incredible soulful and energetic voice), Mariah’s (her airy, breathy vocals are unique, often imitated but never duplicated) and Celine’s (her slightly nasal, elegant tone makes her instantly recognisable). Beyoncé always sounds perfect but maybe she lacks a bit of a distinctive element, even though that’s subjective.
    However with her nearly perfectly executed 4 octaves and her consistency as a vocalist, I’d say she is possibly the most well rounded of all of them and imo she DEFINITELY belongs with the legends, alongside Aretha, Patti, Celine, Mariah, Chaka, Whitney etc etc

    • @allykelly
      @allykelly  Год назад

      Tbh I disagree with some of this.
      Her belts aren't great same with her hv
      She's definitely better than Mariah but not better than Celine or Whitney. Bey hardly open up in her mid range and rather sounds more narrowed and brighter and her hv above A5/Bb5 get pushed, and aspirate the best feature of her vocal is definitely agility and the second is her lows and her dynamic

      @icydelight3693 Год назад +1

      @@allykelly alert: I went rant mode because I got a bit triggered about Mariah, sorry for the length of the comment.
      ****************
      I think that Bey has a great chest voice/mixed voice. She can go from a f2 to a g#5, and she keeps an even, balanced mix even at g#5, which is remarkable for a mezzo. It’s more than 3 octaves prior to switching to head voice. It’s more than Whitney (who goes from c3 to g#5 and tends to sound overly chesty at the upper extreme) and even more than Celine (she goes from b2 to c6, but above a5 she’s very heady, not really balanced). Her head voice is great, it’s technically good up to at least c6 and it’s also very extensive, she’s able to go up to a f6. She has 4 octaves overall which is more than Celine or Whitney and she’s good in all the important areas. I didn’t say that she is better than them, just perhaps a bit more well-rounded (Whitney’ lower register wasn’t as extensive as Bey’s, and Celine has a bit less range than Bey and less ease in the lows below e3). That being said Celine and Whitney have their own strenghts and uniqueness, they are different from Bey, I didn’t say better or worse, they are all exeptional. Also, I don’t like the way you put Mariah as below Celine or Whitney. Mariah may have been technically inconsistent in belts above f5 (she is far from being the only one though), her head voice may not be as strong as Whitney’s or Celine’s and she may have the tendency to over-lower the larynx when going in the 2nd octave, but still… it’s remarkable that she can sing in the second octave at all (she even sang You And I in the original key while keeping her tone, that’s a huge accomplishment for a woman) and she’s technically proficient down to a e3 (which is almost as good as Celine), she still has had many good belts above e5 (and she usually has an open, ringing sound and she is always pleasant to hear, to most people anyway), her head voice is still decent and tbh her airy tone fits her style even though it’s not very operatic, and she has 1.5 octave of well controlled whistle register, that neither Whitney or Celine or Beyoncé possess. At the end of the day she has 3 octaves of chest/mixed voice (g2-g5) and 5 octaves of overall range, which is incredible. You think that range matters less than technique and to an extent I agree, but range and ease also matter and there’s no denying that Mariah has (or had) them in spades. You cannot simply dismiss Mariah’s ability to sing in the lower 3th octave and the 2nd octave and her whole whistle register as gimmicks achieved via questionable techniques, those are remarkable abilities that deserve praise, even if she doesn’t always use a totally healthy technique. Also while she may not have used many vocal dynamics she did use some (her pianissimo in the Never Too Far whistle for instance is drastically different from the strong whistles in Emotions), she has good volume control, she knows when to go full trhottle and when to sing softly. She also has a good breath control when she is in good vocal shape (her 20 seconds long note in Lead The Way with that incredible run is one of the most difficult sustained note ever recorded in mainstream music). More importantly, she is the one who experimented the most with vocal textures and vocal transitions, switching from her breathy vocals to her deep, womanly vocals, alternating falsetto, crystal clear 5th octave belts, whistles, dark lows and switching from a register to the other with ease. Her whisper register basically laid the basis of what is the modern pop girl’s sound, and she popularised whistle register. She herself changed her sound multiple times (from her more aggressive sound of the debut, to her airy/girly sound in Daydream, to her raspy tone in Butterfly, to her mature sound in the 2000). She is arguably the one who experimented the most with her voice and she is the one with the most creative runs besides Beyoncé. Her problem is that she didn’t manage to preserve her voice that well due to her nodules but her legacy as a vocalist and as a songwriter as well is undeniable and tbf this doesn’t come across through your video about Mariah: you make her seem like an average singer glossing over her strenghts (tone manipulation, whistle register and range, above all), when she is considered by most one of the best vocalists of all time (in her prime), with arguably the hardest catalogue of the trinity: Whitney and Celine can cover each other’s songs but they cannot cover Mariah’s hardest songs, even if it was just for the whistle register and the tone manipulation that they require. I appreciate the fact that you have the balls to pin point vocal flaws even in the most renowned vocalists, but I feel like you’re at times too harsh on critiques and too restrained in compliments, with a tendency to overlook things such as range, ease and style, which also matter. Technique isn’t the only thing that defines a vocalist. But anyway that’s my opinion. That being said I don’t mean to discredit your videos, I appreciate the amount of detail that you put into them, I just feel like you’re a bit too harsh on some artists and that you tend to overlook some abilities, unless they are achieved via perfect technique

Also while not as colossally powerful as Whitney or Celine, I think that Beyoncé still has good projection in all registers and has more than enough power to deliver a power ballad, which is something that she did more than once. Also I think that she could out low Celine on any given day (just like Celine could outsing her in high belts).
      Anyway let’s just agree to disagree. You think that Beyoncé and Mariah are overrated, I think you are relatively close minded because you value technique over everything else and you fail to fully appreciate some artists’ greatness. It also seems like you have a bias against Mariah, because you arbitrarily chose to give little value to some aspects which happen to be her strenghts (whistle registers, lower notes, range etc etc). To me quantity matters. If you can sing well but only a limited numbers of notes, I may grow bored after a while (that’s not Celine or Whitney’s case, let it be clear). I tend to be more intrigued by someone who can cover many notes and many different vocal styles even if it’s not that technically flawless (as long as they sound good), because there’s more room for creativity. Divergence of opinions, it’s ok, we don’t have to agree, let’s just respect each other’s point of view

She is next to Celiné one of the most „all arounded“ vocalists (in pop music) meaning she is very great at very register. Like there is no bad or weak register of them. Anyways her Dynamics which are comparable to Whitney‘s or Celinés and her melisma-singing comparable to Mimis makes her lowkey their vocal-daughter lol.

Even male singers are hitting G#5 - B5 in heady mix/masked head voice. How much for female singers who have higher ranges than male. They can for surely hit 5th octave belted notes perfectly just by great technique. Easiness doesn't always mean comfort. Beyonce's headvoice is operatic due to whatever training she had. But it sounds too full for a soprano. You guys are always understimating mezzo's power, comparing some pop singers who are mezzos that can't belt around 5th octave, due to BAD technique.

@@allykellyBaik. F#5 hingga G5 begitu memaksa hingga hampir hilang.

    Beyoncé is SUPERIOR Vocally
    The only thing that makes people not view her or put her in the same level as Whitney and Mariah and the rest is TONE.
    Her TONE except in Her Lower Register (😍😍😍) and her Head Voice (😍😍😍) is rather BLAND. Her Lower Register and Head Voice are literally the most colorful parts of her voice.
    Her Vibrato is also Top Tier but because of how thin and lacking in sheer rawness and conveyance of emotion in THE BELTING REGISTER HER TONE HAS, People don't consider her as great as Whitney, Mariah and The greats. Her belting range while being technically solid and well placed lacks the sheer raw power and warmth Whitney's has, and it surely lacks the vibrant ring, airy tone and glimmering resonance Mariah's has.
    Celine has a smaller Voice than Whitney and Mariah but her belting range cuts through with glass like clarity and resonance due to her slight nasal backing.
    Beyoncé 's belts are not filling. They are executed well technically but are totally underwhelming and devoid of sheer power and that's why she inserts alot of growling, which adds the soulful drive but doesn't make her voice sound anywhere near as powerful as even when Mariah growled in Make it Happen in 2010 here (even Mariah with a problematic voice has a richer tone than Beyonce)👇

    3:03 I don’t like her E3’s. People claim that she has an excellent lower register, but her deep notes are foggy and coreless, and even notes like E3’s are small and silent.
    Bb4 at 4:44 has issues.
    Bb4 at 5:11 has issues,too.
    D5 has issues. Still wondering why people claim that she has been a solid belter. Not really a solid one. Tension and constriction are obvious through the years. And with her reverberation on, she can mislead pretty easily.
    At 7:28 that yell amplified like a billion times!! You can find this note in most of her videos with tittle “Beyoncé : supported vocal range”😅😅
    10:14 so much reverberation and that D6 is just bad.
    Nothing operatic about her head voice …
    At 9:47 she just “oooooos” with the mic far from her mouth and the reverberation is so huge that makes everything to sound “operatic and effortless”.
    Beyoncé needs to thank the machines for helping her to be one of the “most technical vocalists of all time “ … sarcasm

      According to this information that i gather, the coloratura mezzo's tend to have a warm lower register and an agile high register. The roles they sing often demand not only the use of the lower register but also leaps into the upper tessitura with highly ornamented, rapid passages. They have a range from approximately G3 to B5, some can even sing up to high C6 or high D6. What distinguishes these voices from being called sopranos is their extension into the lower register and they are more comfortable singing in the middle of their range, rather than the top.
      Now, lets break down Beyoncé voice to see if it matches this voice type.
      First she does have a warm lower register and an agile high register just as it is describe.
      Her songs tend to be arrange to have a lower register which is the register she is most comturble using and leaps into the upper tessitura in which she also excell at and she display's a lot of agility and precision which she also has.
      Her tessitura is between a G3 and B5 or (C6/D6) which is basically her range.
      As you can see she does shares a lot of similarities with this voice type, also her mature voice has settle at the center not the top which is indicative of a true mezzo-sopranos.
      A true soprano could possibly transition into a mezzo soprano but thats very rare, especially with someone like Beyoncé whom is known for having an excellent technique, in my opinion i think she was always a mezzo with an extensive range, he voice now leads me to believe that.

      Please give me Mariah's voice any day but she has more issues in her A4-D5 range than Bey.

    I think it’s interesting you compliment her head voice, but she only uses it for “ooh” sounds. It’s not a great head voice because she can slide up the scale into it. She has to jump into it and she can utilize it only for one vowel sound. She could never articulate an entire song in her head voice. This inherently limits her so-called agility because it’s only agile for one sound. This critique was so soft. Compare what she does to an opera singer who can vocalize every vowel sound in a high register.
