Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Your set up is exactly what I needed. My tank set up can't accommodate the filter behind the tank. My cover/light won't accommodate the input and output being on separate sides of the tank. The instruction booklet says it has to be placed behind the tank with hoses straight, no curve to them at all. My old filter kicked the bucket on me last night and I ran out and purchased this first thing this morning and sadly I have already lost a fish trying to figure out how to set this filter up properly. Thank you again. Also, I agree with ScottW - GA-USA, thanks for no long lead in and senseless blabber.
Well crumb! I have been so frustrated with my dead zone of gunk! I searched out a few videos and stumbled into this tutorial. Perfect since I have 2 fluval cannisters. Time to rearrange my set up! Additionally.... it would be great if Fluval made extension intake tube for deep tanks.
Still love my 406 Thanks for the recommendations on placement of the intake/output. I’ve always placed them on opposite sides of the tank but I’m going to redo things in my tank (planted tank changing over to African cichlids) and I will place them next to each other.
I am glad I saw this video. I am in the process of replacing a HOB filter with a canister and have been wrestling with proper placement plan. I have an enormous rockscape so it’s a little tough to get good flow through the tank. I may put the intake and return together on one side to keep the hoses short and reduce pump head.nThis will at least give me the most powerful return flow……..
I have a FX6 on a 125. Intake, output on opposite ends the way I've always done it. I have been struggling with the plants on the intake end, just like you said would happen. I've talked to my LFS about solutions. Never did they say put them on the same end even though I specifically asked. Sometimes it's a "If you have to ask, should you own fish" type of response.... The fish aren't my issue, it's learning what the live plants need. I was looking for videos with comments on how the spray bar would help with this. I have an unused 207 I am going to set up for now on the 'dead end'. I may go ahead and order a spray bar for next month cleaning, and re-arrange. Out of my 2 tanks, the 125 is the only one with the most "plant issues" so I kept thinking it has to be oxygen flow. My Flex is amazing, Makes me think I need intake and output in the CENTER of the tank, like the flex! Thanks for the video
Great video, thanks! Do you have any suggestions for placing a second canister filter in a large aquarium? Safe to assume both back corners of the tank have a heater, output near the surface, and input near the substrate? Or is there a better, more efficient way? How might the flow be interrupted by two results pointing at one another?
Our recommendation would be to install the two canisters exactly as you described! If the species you'll be keeping prefer strong, directional flow, aim one output along the back wall and the other towards the front of the aquarium. If not, the random flow generated by the two water outputs "hitting" each other will effectively distribute water throughout the tank!
Well done! Handled a relatively unspoken, but often times 🤔, question w/ the attention & focus I now fully understand it deserves. In references to: well circulation for distribution of heat, non-forming aquarium "dead zones", much needed plant nutrients to be equally dispursed t/o & to break-up any surface stillness or agitation. You hit the A.) to the Q.) right on the 👃🏻, & then some 🎯. Bravo 👏🏻. Ps. Have you got any Fluval samples you could provide to an avid Fluval Brand consumer. I would handle shipping. Ty, regardless though.
Thanks for the info. I have a Fluval 405 with a spray bar, in a 70 gal tank. What is the best option to locate the intake? Apparently, the spray bar does not provoke enough water motion, specially at the sand surface.
Hi Jose! In your case, it'll be best to position the intake near the bottom of the tank, preferably in a spot that has less water flow to help prevent any dead zones!
Thank you for the video. I want to put the input and the output on the same side like you recommended. If I put them in the same corner as you did, and place the spray bar on the top side of the tank ( the shorter one) where do you recommend I should I place a powerhead? I have 75 G tank.
Hi Maja, great question! Your powerhead should be positioned on the opposite side of your filters intake, pushing water towards the intake. Doing so will help increase the flow of water in your aquarium which leads to an overall more balanced tank. We hope this helps!
Hi, Thanks for this video! We just upgraded to a new filter (307 performance) for our 60gallon tank, the Plecostomous seems to be loving life and pooping up a storm. the intake and output valves are placed how you have them in this video, but the pleco poop isn't being sucked up by the filter. We are having nitrates and ammonia build up and have had to euthanize a few fish now. I used some of the biostars from the previous filter and the sand substrate wasn't changed so I think the bacterial load is likely fine. So what am I missing?? The output has good flow, and there is nothing obstructing the intake. Any help is appreciated.
Hi Karen, it sounds as if there may be some dead spots in the tank that aren't getting enough flow and as such are allowing debris and waste to accumulate. Try adjusting the output to see if you can avoid having any dead spots. You could also consider adding a small circulation pump, such as the Fluval CP1, to help resuspend any debris and waste and allow the filter to remove it!
I have intake on left side with wave makes and my canester filter came with a hob water polisher which I have on the right side that causees a push downwards. Then I have heater close to the right side were downward water is. I have 2 sponge filter one left one right in the center separated. This is a over stock 55gal tetra and Cory tank
Thanks to share the tips it's really help for me but just wanted to know the out-let one should be inside the water or surface the water ? as I saw in your video it's inside the water and many videos I saw it's surface of the water. Sometimes due to power cut is there any chance to go water in back direction or any chances of leakage ? and last question after installing this filter do I need to have air pump or not required?
Hi Shubhrajit, thanks for your comment! It is best to place the output at or slightly below the water surface to create surface agitation without splashing water out of the tank. If the motor head seal is not properly maintained, it is possible that backpressure can cause your filter to leak during a power failure. After installation, an air pump is not required although, air pumps do contribute to better water circulation and oxygenation which leads to an overall more balanced aquarium. We hope this helps! 😊
Do you have any videos or written recommendations for setting up an 07 Series for a turtle tank. Here, there is a large drop (6-9 incher) from the top edge of the tank to the top of the water line.
Hi there! We don't have any videos about setting up 07 Series filters on turtle tanks specifically, but you can simply follow the normal setup instructions. The maximum recommended gap between the water level and the rim of the aquarium is 7", so as long as it's approximately that in your tank, you shouldn't have any issues!
@@fluval Great, thank you for this video and I have a questions also regarding two filters in aquarium. If the out flow it's to strong how we can attenuate without force the filters but to have a good circulation of water in aquarium ?
I am just waiting on delivery of a 307 for my 3ft tank and was wondering about this it seems logical to have them on opposite sides, but then again what you’re saying makes perfect sense. Would having the intake say in the left hand back corner and the output a few inches away pointing diagonally across the tank also work perhaps even more so seeing as theoretically you would get even more push from your output?
Dear fluval ,, I hope that you can help ,, do you make the light grey rubber hose joiners in black and the light grey right angel one that is in the spray bar kit , it woud make my pipes disapear if you do make your rubber fixings in black,,, An awsome product by the way ,,, im running a your 207 Filter and spray bar , that has a black background ,,
Unfortunately that is not available. You could find a suitable flexible black plastic and using a black plastic click hose clamp that around the grey connector.
I've noticed heater towards the input seems to be inaccurate cause the water tends to cool while traveling through the canester tubes before getting to the canester. I keep my house at 67F just cause I live in the desert. My tanks hold a 79F 80F at all times using a lazer temp handheld. I love that rimless tank you have
Hi, I am from Brazil. Searching for an information and maybe you can help me. It is possible to positioning the canister filter just side by side with the aquarium? most of people put it in the bottom just underneath the aquarium. In my case I have space issues and only it is possible to positioning at the side. Many thanks!
Hi there! Canister filters are gravity-fed systems, so they need to be positioned a certain distance below the aquarium rim in order to work correctly. We recommend consulting your filter's instruction manual and ensuring this minimum distance is respected. If it is, you'll be good to go! 👍
New to canister filters here. My intake tubing has a pinch point, causing restricted flow. I assume this could be corrected by shortening and tightening up the intake line, would this be a correct assumption?
Yes! The intake and output hosing should follow a straight path from the filter to the aquarium with no kinks, loops, bends or turns. It should have a little slack (for ease of maintenance) but not more than that! 👍
There was a video somewhere with flow shown and on small tanks side by side was best larger tanks require a lil different positioning due to volume of water
Great video, thank you making it. I setup my fx4 using this. I had in and out on different ends but same side makes much more sense. How would you setup 2 canisters?
Glad it helped! When using two canisters you can either cross the input and output tubes or place one canister on the left side of the tank and the other on the right with their tubing's on their respective sides. The ultimate goal is to have even water flow across the entire aquarium with some surface agitation! 👍
Awesome video! I Just purchased a 407 filter. I'm doing my 75 gallon in gravel and one end of it in sand for corydoras and bottom dwellers. What end would you suggest placing my intake and output. The end with sand or the end with gravel?
Hi Charles, to avoid any sand from entering the filter, it would be best to place the filters input opposite of the sand for this particular set up. If the intake tube is high enough, either end would do. We hope this helps! 😊
Intake and output on same side coming from fluval who make aquariums with one hole cut out of either side barely big enough to accommodate an external filter hose!
Thanks for the tips, I just got the 407 filter and the outlet flow it is quite of strong, O have some Angel fish and they don’t like that strong flow, any tips to help them fill more comfortable?
You can safely reduce the flow of the 407 by up to 50% using the grey AquaStop lever! You can also consider purchasing a spray bar: fluvalaquatics.com/us/product/spray-bar-kit-15-30-30-76-cm/
So i'm looking into getting a stand for our 40 gallon breeder with the fluval. Does it matter where I position the fluval? Should it be on the ground like pictured here? or could it be closer on the stand so its higher to the tank? Would my stand height matter in this case? we just got it so i know nothing Lol
Hi there! Canister filters are gravity-fed systems, so they need to be positioned below the aquarium to work effectively. We encourage you to consult your instruction manual, as it outlines the correct positioning of the filter relative to the aquarium! 👍
Hello I would like to ask you about the output nozzle..as i saw in you in your video you have placed it below the water level..is that ok? Also i placed it about 1cm below water level to reduce noise and drops on my lamp. Thanks in advance i remain
Hi there! The output nozzle can absolutely be positioned below the water level - in fact, that's the most common way to set it up! Just be sure it's above the water while you're priming the filter. 👍
Can I add a piece of sponge inside the filter output nozzle? Would the restricted flow strain the motor? I had a Borneo loach swim into the output and get stuck in the supply tube. I had to disassemble the output to get him out.
I'd like to use this Dflow nozzle that has a long reach pipe to plug in to the actual return pipe but can't find the dimensions for the return pipe. Or would fluval make their own random flow attachment. I don't have the 407 to measure it as I'm still buying items for a reef setup
Hello Thanks for the vedio I have heavy planted 350 L aquarium with 10 angel fish and 3 alge eaters I installed 2 fluval fx6 in this aquarium is it lot of filteration or is that ok ? Also please let me know does the water turn over will be reduced when the media is setup inside the filters ? Thanks
Hello! Two FX6 filters on a 350 L aquarium is quite a lot of filtration - you may have too much water movement, depending on the species of fish you're keeping. The flow rate does indeed depend on the filter media used: if you have lots of fine sponges, for example, the flow will be reduced more significantly.
@@fluval Thanks for your reply I am uesing more bio media and reduced the water flow . I think you are right I will remove one of the 2 filters and keep it on réserve. I appreciate your help
I bought a cannister filter for a turtle tank I have never used one before and the turtle tank it supposed to be not filled right to the top maybe hassle in the output the instructions show it going straight across the top of the tank is it possible to lower it so that it's under the water
Hi there! Fluval canister filters can be used in turtle tanks or in other instances where the water level is not quite at the aquarium rim. We recommend consulting the instruction manual about this, as the maximum recommended distance between the rim of the aquarium and the water level is stated!
Hi there! Yes, FX Series canister filters can be placed beside the aquarium rather than directly below it, provided the distance between the top of the canister and the water level is more than 8" / 20 cm and less than 59" / 150 cm. For the best filtration performance, ensure the hosing follows as straight of a path as possible, with no kinks or loops.
Hi Eric. Thanks for the video. I have the 107 canister filter on my Roma90. If you have the inflow and outflow on opposite sides, in which direction should you point the outflow? Towards the side with the inflow or the front of the tank or a different direction? Also, if I adjust the flow lever, does that reduce the amount of water filtered per hour, or just the strength of the outflow?
Point it away from the intake or you refiltering the same water on a smaller tank. If the outflow strong flow it can disturb fish so direct it against the glass for a lot less disturbance.
Thanks Eric really timely! I'm going to switch to a one side set up like yours... so tidy! As the duel output on the FX6 doesn't seem to be strong enough to reach the entire length of the tank (4ft) I've recently bought a Hydor Koralia 3G Circulation Wave Pump, that I've yet to put in my 300 L (75G) tank. The reason I bought it was to help with breaking the water tension... to create more oxygen for my Discus. Ok after that long story I'll get to my question... where do you recommend I position the powerhead (and where to focus the flow)? Knowing I'll have both the FX6 intake and output on one side, the same as you have in this video. Thanks so much for the helpful video Eric, much appreciated :).
@@fluval thanks for the reply. Just so I have this straight, are you saying I should have the powerhead and the Fluval intake and output on opposite sides of the tank with the flow meeting in the middle?
If you put the splash bar at the bottom or mid range of the tank would it generate flow to move particles off the bottom or would that not be proper flow?
Hi! how about a cube? where do you put the input/output i got a 18x18x18 25g with spray bar do you put the input further in corner? then heater then spray bar to front or side ? uh lol
Thanks Eric. Can you suggest me which one should I buy for 450litres fish tank. Fluval 307 or 407? Can you let me know if there is any dealer in India from whom I can buy Fluval canister filter? Also filter media & spare parts if required in future?
I have inlet on one end and outlet in other. How do I get the poop on the bottom to circulate with water nd hit the filter intake? My tanks clean its just in one day it builds up. I do have 14 maingono cichlids in a 75 gallon fx4.
Hi there! Try directing one of the output nozzles of your filters down to create more current towards the bottom of the aquarium. You can also try adding a small circulation pump!
I have a new acrylic aquarium that only allows mounting of piping on the back, not the sides (or ends). Using a lilly glass discharge, it has to go straight toward the front face of the tank which is 13" straight out. Do you think the water will hit this front face and go down the front of the aquarium making a circle back to the suction placed by the discharge or should I go for suction at the opposite end of the tank? You copy?
Hi Casey, yes the tank water will hit the front of the tank and circle back! If you notice poor flow, try to angle the Lilly pipe diagonally so that it blow the water towards the front of the tank but also sideways, this will help improve overall flow. Hope this helps! 😊
Hi there, great question! Spray bars are useful in planted tanks and with fish that prefer more gentle, diffused water movement. The standard return spout is great for more generalized applications. You can't go wrong with either!
When aquarium is big (mine is l 36*b 24*h 24 inches) Intake and outlet on same side as you mentioned causing debris to settle in the middle of aquarium... and cannot have added additional equipment like wave maker .. because it's discus aquarium...
Hi Cameron, thanks for your comment! Bubbles entering the filter will not damage the unit however, if an accumulation of air forms within the canister, know as an airlock, the impeller can run dry and fry the motor. It is best to keep all air diffusers and CO2 diffusers away from the filter input. 😊
Does the outtake need to be near the surface causing agitation of the surface water or can it be a few inches below as it not create much disturbance on the surface? I have floating plants that are being damaged by the water flow on the surface but I’m concerned about not getting much oxygenation being below surface. Thanks.
Hi Timothy, great question! The more the surface is agitated, the more favorable the oxygenation process will be. However, if you need to drop the output slightly to not disturb your floating plants, that's completely okay - your fish will still be perfectly fine. 👍
Would love it if you could do a new video to show the best angles in a Fluval tank, like the Siena, Roma 240 or shaker with through floor canisters. Thanks
Hi, does anything change with bow front tanks? And at 1:25 on that tank, the spray bar is not the full length of the tank, will that still provide adequate flow? Thanks
Hi there! 👋 The concepts are very much the same with bowfront tanks. With regards to the aquarium at 1:25, a second section of spray bar was added shortly after filming! With spray bar kits, you do indeed want the unit to cover as much of the length of the tank as possible.
Is there a screen that I can either swap out, put over or inside the intake tube of my fluval 407 filter? It sucked in two of my loaches and I eventually want to put some shrimp in my tank. Thank you.
How do I position the output filter so my fish get oxygen? Should it be all the way in the water or have some ripple effect at the top of the water? Thanks
We recommend positioning the output a little below the water level! You want the surface of the water to be nicely agitated without any splashing or spraying. 👍
(1) Can we use the grey colored ‘water flow on/off lever’ (@ the Aquastop Valve?) to control the output flow rate? (For fish & invertebrates that don’t appreciate fast flowing water.) (2) Can we attach an in-line Co2 atomiser with the Fluval ribed output tubing? (For planted/aquascaped tanks.) (3) Can we attach a glass Lilly pipe or an R-type glass spinner output pipe to the Fluval ribbed pipes?
Yes. if a bonded uncut hosing segments were used and the diameter is compatible with the inline diffuser, yes, possibly. If the diameter is compatible with the rubber hose connector, yes.
Hi Simmi, generally it is not recommended to place your CO2 diffuser near the filters intake as the bubbles will enter the filter which can cause the motor to run try or airlock. It would be best to place your diffuser under the filters output so that the bubbles are dispersed throughout your aquarium by the output flow.
How would you go about using 2 x canister filters? I've currently got one canister at each end of the tank. The inlet and outlet for canister 1 is at the left side of the tank and canister 2 has the inlet and outlet at the right hand side of the tank. I have 2x wave makers on the left hand side of the tank, both pointing to the surface. I'm thinking about moving both inlets to the right hand side. What do you think? Thanks
Hi Chris, when we use two filters on one aquarium, we set them up exactly the way you have them right now! One canister filter on one side, the second one on the other side. 👍
I just installed the Fluval FX6 on my 75 gallon. After several days i have a lot of gunk that can't seem to find the intake. I have intake on left and output on the right. Do you and others here recommend pointing output towards the right walland then use a wave maker lowee in tank pushing back towards the intake? I have output pointed upward and towars the intake and it isn't working out. Thanks for any help
If you're noticing debris accumulating in parts of your aquarium, it's possible you need more water movement! Try changing the directing the output nozzles are pointing or adding a small circulation pump. 👍
I have a 207 and I read I can slow the output by raising the grey handle a bit. Because I don't want to mess up my system I'd rather ask before doing so.... will that slow it without compromising my system?
Hi Ann, thanks for your question. You can definitely lower your filters flow by slightly lifting the grey lever on your filters aquastop valve. We advise against lowering the flow more than 50%, hope this helps! 😊
We are setting up a 100 gallon Oscar tank for son. The water outtake is very loud! How can we reduce the noise? Can we put the outtake water nozzle below the water!
I have a fx6 canister filter and was thinking about making a spreader bar. . How much better does a spreader bar circulate than the output that comes with the filter ? Does it create back pressure on the filter ? Thank you .
Hi Van, spray bars are great at circulating the aquarium water as in most cases, the filter will suck in water from the bottom of the aquarium, filter it and spread it across the top, creating surface agitation in the process. DIY Spray bars can create back pressure which can damage your filter so it is important that there are enough holes for the water to escape from and that the PVC piping used is thick enough. Hope this helps! 😊
@@fluval A RUclips video was shown on TV. however they left off what size they made it out of .Would you please tell me everything I need to build one , size of hose etc .. Size of holes to put in pvc so I get maximum out put from my FX6 canister filter . Thank you
@@fluval My tank is 72 " long . Is the diameter the same size used from the flexible hosing that comes with the filter ? What size PVC pipe , how many holes in bar ( distance apart } and what size hole to efficiently run the pump without no back pressure ?
I have a 60 gallon tank, and a 407. Right now I have the intake in the back left, and the output on the back right, but I notice Im not getting a lot of movement towards the bottom (24" depth) The plants (and debris/snail poo) don't move. Should I move the output or install powerheads? Placement of these please? The tank is lightly planted at the moment, but Id like to add more and I want good flow.
Hello, you can definitely face your filters output slightly downwards to help improve the flow. Should it not be enough, power heads are another great option!
Great video. I have my 307 setup like yours. I have a musk turtle in my tank so pretty loaded. I have the vertical movement but would I benefit from having an internal filter in the tank as well for horizontal movement? I have a fluval u4 that was in my smaller tank before so I could run 2 filters on the 1 tank or is that overkill? I have no fish just 1 adult musk
A 307 would probably be sufficient for a single turtle! More filtration in theory doesn't hurt, but it could end up creating too much flow for your little guy.
Hi Shelly, thanks for your comment! Low intake/output flow can be due to many things. Most of the time, it is due to debris or waste that has accumulated inside of the filter, slowing the flow of water or there is some type of minor error in the assembly of the filter. If your filter was recently cleaned and you are still experiencing some trouble, please reach out to our customer service team who will be glad to investigate this further with you. They can be contacted through the following link. fluvalaquatics.com/us/contact-us/
@@fluval okay well the outflow is fast loads of water coming out so is that a sign its working normal? Also should you feel the water being sucked from the intake?
I know this is an older video, but just for awareness; if you are using the Fluval E series heater, you will get a low flow error if you set up the tank like he does in this video. I love their E series heater, but put it immediately to the right of the powerhead to avoid the low flow error on the heater.
Great setup video Eric: kudos! I can't quite tell, but is your outflow nozzle pointing parallel to the back side of the tank, or is oriented more toward the opposite front corner? Which would be 'better'?
Hi Andrew, glad you enjoyed the video! Great question - I usually direct the output towards the opposite corner, to help make as much of a full loop of the aquarium as possible. Naturally, depending on aquarium decor, you may need to adjust this slightly!
@@fluval thanx Eric. Judging from your answer to a previous question about CO2 placement (thanx again) that's where I placed the bubbler; at the bottom opposite corner to the outflow.
Hi Eric, can the Canister filter be used as a pond filter? Meaning can the canister be placed at the same height as that of the tank? Are the canister filter capable of sucking water without the help of gravity? I believe the pond filter will have a separate submersible pump placed in the tank. Kindly share your expert opinion.
Hi there, thank you for your question! Our canister filters cannot be used on ponds unfortunately as the unit must be placed at least 4.5ft (1.4m) below the waterline to operate correctly. This is because our canister filters us a water siphon (gravity) to bring water into the filter. Additionally, our filters are meant for indoor use only and are not weather resistant. For these reasons, it would be best to use a pond specific filter for your pond. We hope this helps! 😊
Yes! The output nozzle should be submerged about an inch below the water level. This will cause the water surface to be agitated when the filter is turned on, allowing for the gas exchange to occur and the water to be oxygenated!

Thank you. I finally found someone to answer my question about hose placement after looking, it seems like, forever.
We're glad the video was helpful! 👍
Thank you! Rearranging my filters now based on your tips.
Great info ,that planted tank looked great.your plants look so healthy 👍
Outlet should be under the the water or up the water level, please suggest....
Is there a cover that you can possibly put over the heater and filter intake/output?
We're so happy the video was helpful! The best way to get samples is to visit us at a trade show like Aquashella or the Canadian Pet Expo! 👍
You answered my questions!!!! Super awesome!!!!
Happy to help! 👍
When will the UVC In-Line Aquarium Clarifier be available for the FX2 canister...?

I just bought Fluval 307 for my 32g tank and it's working nicely. Thanks Fluval
@@fluval Thank you! :)
You could also consider adding a small circulation pump, such as the Fluval CP1, to help resuspend any debris and waste and allow the filter to remove it!
informative video. LIKED and SUBSCRIBED. thank u.
@@fluval thanks to clarify my doubts as I have purchased Fluval 307 and tomorrow I will be setting up my filter as per above instructions.
Do u need to av the part coming off pipe in water for input ant output
I love the aquarium set up at 1:23, can you say anything about how that is assembled? Thanks
Hi Kate, what would you like to know about it? If you have an Instagram account, shoot us a DM - we can chat about the tank!
Spray bars which comes with external filters does it effect the water output in tank if used or not used.
The open area of a spray bar is such that output is minimally impacted.
Thank you for great video. I have a question related to this video, how would you setup an aquarium with 2 canister filters ?
You would replicate the set up as per the demonstration tank in this video in each of the two rear corners.
Hi Ben, yes that would definitely work!
@@fluval Thankyou , i will give that suggestion a try ..
Stay well and take care .

Should I use a spray bar or the teacup looking thing? Sorry I’m a noob
Both are good options! The regular output nozzle provides strong, directional flow, whereas a spray bar offers gentler, diffused flow.
Thank you 😊

Great content, thank you 😊
We're glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Is it best for the Output valve to be completely submerged? Will it produce the same agitation in the water.
The best solution is to submerge it such that it still creates good surface movement.
Hi what if I want to put two canister filters on my tank would you put the other one on the opposite side together?
Hi there! Exactly - if you have two canister filters, we recommend putting one on each side of the tank!
Great job my man 👏👏
Awesome video!
@@fluval thank you for your reply thats what I did intake and output on the side with the gravel and it worked out great! Thank you
Intake and output on same side coming from fluval who make aquariums with one hole cut out of either side barely big enough to accommodate an external filter hose!
Great! Thanks for the video
@@fluval Thank you! I appreciate this. We're still putting together our system. excited for our new filter. its been a battle with the old one LOL

Hello
I would like to ask you about the output nozzle..as i saw in you in your video you have placed it below the water level..is that ok? Also i placed it about 1cm below water level to reduce noise and drops on my lamp.
Thanks in advance i remain
Hi there! The output nozzle can absolutely be positioned below the water level - in fact, that's the most common way to set it up! Just be sure it's above the water while you're priming the filter. 👍
@@fluval Great
Thanks
Can I add a piece of sponge inside the filter output nozzle? Would the restricted flow strain the motor? I had a Borneo loach swim into the output and get stuck in the supply tube. I had to disassemble the output to get him out.
Hi Alan, great question! In these instances, we recommend placing a coarse foam block over the output. Be sure to rinse it out frequently! 👍
I'd like to use this Dflow nozzle that has a long reach pipe to plug in to the actual return pipe but can't find the dimensions for the return pipe. Or would fluval make their own random flow attachment. I don't have the 407 to measure it as I'm still buying items for a reef setup
Hello Thanks for the vedio I have heavy planted 350 L aquarium with 10 angel fish and 3 alge eaters
I installed 2 fluval fx6 in this aquarium is it lot of filteration or is that ok ?
Whay i cant buy fluval kanister filter in Serbia?😢😢😢
I bought a cannister filter for a turtle tank I have never used one before and the turtle tank it supposed to be not filled right to the top maybe hassle in the output the instructions show it going straight across the top of the tank is it possible to lower it so that it's under the water
Hi there! Fluval canister filters can be used in turtle tanks or in other instances where the water level is not quite at the aquarium rim. We recommend consulting the instruction manual about this, as the maximum recommended distance between the rim of the aquarium and the water level is stated!
Hi. My tank is on the ground. Can FX 6 be placed beside the tank? (Water Volume : 500 litre, Tank Height : 3 ft)
You may locate the power head on the opposite end to the filter output.
That would work, sure! You'll just want to make sure you're getting adequate surface movement with that sort of setup.
Ur canister are the best and most reliable on the market…I have a 407 on my reef tank and filled it with purigen etc and my corals are thriving…
That's awesome! We are glad to hear that the 407 is working well for you! 😎👍

Sir please guide me my 2 feet tank actual position of my sunsun 304A canister filter
Which is better to use on the out take, and what are the differences in function of the spray bar opposed to the regular angled spout?
Hi there, great question! Spray bars are useful in planted tanks and with fish that prefer more gentle, diffused water movement. The standard return spout is great for more generalized applications. You can't go wrong with either!
When aquarium is big (mine is l 36*b 24*h 24 inches) Intake and outlet on same side as you mentioned causing debris to settle in the middle of aquarium... and cannot have added additional equipment like wave maker .. because it's discus aquarium...
Hey just wanted to know if bubbles going into the intake is bad or not or if it will damage the canister filter
Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion! We'll add it to the list. 👌
@@fluval Thanks for the response.
Is there a screen that I can either swap out, put over or inside the intake tube of my fluval 407 filter? It sucked in two of my loaches and I eventually want to put some shrimp in my tank. Thank you.

We're pretty sure it was a 307 canister filter!

So is it ok to put the out take underwater
Absolutely! It's recommended to leave the output out of water during priming, but afterwards it can be completely submerged underwater. 👍
How do I position the output filter so my fish get oxygen? Should it be all the way in the water or have some ripple effect at the top of the water? Thanks
We recommend positioning the output a little below the water level! You want the surface of the water to be nicely agitated without any splashing or spraying. 👍
OK sounds good thanks!
(1) Can we use the grey colored ‘water flow on/off lever’ (@ the Aquastop Valve?) to control the output flow rate? (For fish & invertebrates that don’t appreciate fast flowing water.)
(2) Can we attach an in-line Co2 atomiser with the Fluval ribed output tubing? (For planted/aquascaped tanks.)
(3) Can we attach a glass Lilly pipe or an R-type glass spinner output pipe to the Fluval ribbed pipes?
Yes. if a bonded uncut hosing segments were used and the diameter is compatible with the inline diffuser, yes, possibly. If the diameter is compatible with the rubber hose connector, yes.
One question. Can I place co2 diffuser under canister input to mix it with the water?
Slightly submerged yet still creating good surface movement is effective.

Should I move the output or install powerheads? Placement of these please? The tank is lightly planted at the moment, but Id like to add more and I want good flow.
Hello, you can definitely face your filters output slightly downwards to help improve the flow. Should it not be enough, power heads are another great option!

How high should the inlet be above the gravel
We recommend leaving at least 3" / 7.5 cm of space between the intake strainer and the gravel!
Hey some people say their intake is fast and sucks things up mine doesn't is that normal I can hardly feel anything?
Hi Shelly, thanks for your comment! Low intake/output flow can be due to many things. Most of the time, it is due to debris or waste that has accumulated inside of the filter, slowing the flow of water or there is some type of minor error in the assembly of the filter. Hi can u please tell me if spray bar go,s on in or out on canister filter please…
Hi Michelle, the spray bar should be positioned on the output of your canister filter.
I know this is an older video, but just for awareness; if you are using the Fluval E series heater, you will get a low flow error if you set up the tank like he does in this video. I love their E series heater, but put it immediately to the right of the powerhead to avoid the low flow error on the heater.
You're absolutely right! E Series heaters should be positioned directly in the path of water flow to work most effectively. 👌

The O.D of the rubber hose connector is 22mm and the I.D is 18mm
@@fluval Thank you for the response.
if outlet pipe is dipped in water...will it make sufficient oxygen for your fishes??
Yes! The output nozzle should be submerged about an inch below the water level. This will cause the water surface to be agitated when the filter is turned on, allowing for the gas exchange to occur and the water to be oxygenated!
