What can i say, you guys?! We lost an absolutely legendary, influential, technical, brilliant, prolific, unique, and absolutely genius player this week, Allan Holdsworth. The music world will be spending the next 1,000 years trying to figure out what he was telling us through his music.
Allan's lead playing, his chord voicings, his tone.... everything he does has been imitated by SO MANY PLAYERS from a multitude of different genres. Listen to some of his stuff with UK in the early/mid 70's and prepare to be floored by the stunning technicality of his playing, WAY before EVH ever hit the scene.
To celebrate his incredible genius, i've chosen to teach you all a lick form his solo on Inner Urge! This solo, like many of his other solos, is FULL of incredible licks and concepts, and this one seemed like the most compact and approachable one, if you can believe that.
Later part of the video features some insight into his signature legato technique that you'll find useful to nail his sound!
