I absolutely love this game and how it goes from connecting dots with soothing music in the background to frantically relocating lines and carriages within 5 minutes. Glad you checked it out.
the biggest lesson that this game has taught me, through playing it these past years, is that circles are literally the spawn of satan and should never be trusted or loved...
Something that might be helpful to understand with this game is that the various shapes actually signify different sorts of neighborhoods/structures, I think. IIRC, circles are residential, triangles are commercial/shopping, and squares are industrial/professional. So at certain times of day, on certain days, most everyone at a circle stop will be wanting to go to a square (where the jobs are). The special structures (cross is a hospital, there's something that's a stadium, I'm not sure about the pentagon or the diamond) have their own characteristics as well, in terms of how many people want to go to them, and when, and why. But keeping in mind what the at least the basic shapes signify will help some with route and line planning. And, like others have noted, you can drag an existing line to reroute it (rather than redrawing from scratch), and you can use the space bar to pause, which is indispensable. I love this game, though, so I'm glad you found it, Jon. Yay!
if all of that is true, that's some invaluable information if you can figure out how to apply it. ... that also means this is a way more complicated game than i thought it was.
I *think* it's true, but it's been a long time since I've played Mini Metro, and I don't remember where I read/saw it explained (full disclosure: I could be imagining it entirely). But as I recall, keeping that stuff in mind when I was playing--treating it like it was true--seemed to help me do better. Don't link all the special structures on one line, because they all seem to have peak demand at different intervals, but if those intervals happen to overlap, the line will be overwhelmed with all the people who want to go to the diamond thingie on a particular day that also happens to be a particular day when all the other people want to go to the stadium or whatever. I think I also tended to try to make my transfer points on the squares, because those seem to get the most regular, recurring demand. Stuff like that. Assuming that it's not all nonsense, of course, an imaginary sense of order I imposed on an essentially random and chaotic game. 8-D
you never wanna have too many of the same type in a row if you can help it, especially at the end of the line as it causes a backlog lines don't automatically come with locomotives, if you start a new line, you need to have a locomotive to service it interchanges can basically be get out of jail free cards if you need them to be. picking a new line over an interchange when you didn't even have a locomotive to service that new line was a big mistake
FYI: You can grab lines from the middle to extend them to different stations without having to redo the entire line. That would really help your efficiency and help avoid situations like running into three circle stations in a row.
I'm not sure how I missed this first time around, but after watching Mini Motorways, I had to check this out! What's interesting is when you watch this video you can see how the map slowly zooms out as it jumps between edits, but when you're playing you simply don't notice it zooming out. Genius.
I love this game so much!! Something to keep in mind is that you always need a spare locomotive in hand for your new line when you start it because they don't automatically spawn with one
Fun fact, you can drag the line from anywhere. You don't have to undo the whole like to add in a new station. Grab it from between two already connected stations and it'll work just great.
The fundamental issues that I can see are that (1) the frequency of visits to a station is inversely proportional to the length of the line (2) stations at the end of an unlooped line are visited once per full cycle, just as often as if the line was twice as long, but looped
This was very conflicting to watch, I love this game but Jon playing it made me feel conflicted. Also two tips, train lines shouldn’t cross unless they are at a station because it slows trains that are crossing, the second tip is that all angles should be greater than 90 degrees because if an angle is 0 or 45 degrees trains have to stop at that station even if there are no passengers at that station!
"im going to take an extra line cuz im good on tunnles...now how many extra do i have?... oh i dont ahve any spare tunnels. tahts not good" Never change jon
Onafoolserrand Ummmm....really don't think that will work. Besides, you may have just gave him a compliment, depending on how one preceves the definition of the word.
*Gets a new locomotive *Gets a new line *Puts new locomotive on Green line *Creates new Pink line *Wonders why there isn't a locomotive on Pink line... If it was anyone else it'd be really annoying but because its Jon its... well, still really annoying but also entertaining.
Jon: “New line or tunnels? Well I’m doing ok on tunnels, so let’s get a new line.” Jon 5 seconds later: “ok I need to put a tunnel here and... I’m literally out of tunnels.”
Hey John...unrelated, but I wanted to thank you for showing off Hand of Fate 2 a few months ago. I put it on my list after watching you try it out, and just finished it on my PS4. I never would have found it if not for you, and I loved it immensely. Keep being you.
"yellow is still a major artery" is doing less than any of the other two lines many times over. >_< oh jon... "green will be a nice fast line" proceed's to make it the longest line he has...

Toycat's Lawyer no offence, dude, but this is at best confusing and at worst wrong. I mean, TfL is Transport for London, the company that runs the tube, it’s not the name of a line.
This Game is actually really good and really easy. Just build circles and allways choose wagons over the other addons. And the more small lines that work as a circle, the better.
Jon doesn't seem to realize that in this game, people aren't drawn to "hubs", so thinking this is has a lot of people right now lets just run a line through all the places with people, is quite ineffective, Jon's lack of perception both small and large never ceases to amaze and entertain me
Just slowly watching the new stations Jon hasn't noticed slow fill up is just beautiful
we already knew that. his missing the little marks on the butter for decades was plenty of proof of that.
Oh no, its the deadly combo of "A puzzle game"+"A game that I played"+"Jon's perception"...
And the video ends with "Jon's perception" preveils.
yea... he makes things way, way too long. >_<
shame he didn't try any of the hard maps.
Indeed, I now feel like an expert at this game after watching Jon.
Did anyone else spend half he video watching a station that Jon hasn't noticed slowly fill up until it reaches the point of no return?
The classic of: "I´m fine on tunnels."
Literary 5 seconds later: "Oh god, I´m out of tunnels."
I absolutely love this game and how it goes from connecting dots with soothing music in the background to frantically relocating lines and carriages within 5 minutes. Glad you checked it out.

jon, you can drag the lines from the middle, you don't have to undo the entire thing to add a new stop in the middle
Ella Guy-Vogel - not to mention, you don't need to let go of the line you're drawing to drag it through multiple stations...
That would have made this sytem much better

Jon I don't think you're cut out for town planning.
Between this and Cities: Skylines I'd say you're absolutely right.

Jon as his stations are overflowing " Do i need extra capacity? No I need another line"
"I've hit a thousand people" ~John the man running a metro system ...
It's funny when he places down his only locomotive, then makes a line and is like 'Wait, where's the train?'.
I love this game so much!! Something to keep in mind is that you always need a spare locomotive in hand for your new line when you start it because they don't automatically spawn with one
"The squares are getting stuck here." - Jon
"Losers... oh, wait, he meant the shape..." - me.
"Doors will open on the right hand side... But only cool people may alight here."
Jon: "I'm okay on tunnels"
Jon 20 seconds later: "I've got literally no spare tunnels. That's a concern"
Watching Jon not notice a new station forever troubles me.
Good I love this game soooooo much
“this is literally the circle line because there’s nothing but bloody circles” 😂😂
Fun fact, you can drag the line from anywhere. You don't have to undo the whole like to add in a new station. Grab it from between two already connected stations and it'll work just great.
This game can also be played on mobile, if anyone wanted to know.
I did! Thank you!
Me too - somehow I missed the announcement of it having been ported to mobile. Purchase complete.
Every now and then we get great games on mobile. This is definitely one of them

Mini metro drinking game: take a shot every time Jon breaks a semi functional line to create an untenable one
Last few minutes I just kept repeating ‘Jon’ dejectedly knowing by the time he sees that station it’ll be too late
It's cool to run the cursor over the timeline and see the tunnels form and start again
"Oh Jon.. Jon Jon Jon Jon Jon..." Literally 3 minutes in.
If you have a locomotive in your inventory than it will automatically put it in when you make a new line
Speaking of Metros!
Jon please play Metro 2033. It's the great game that inspired Fallout 4 frost. And best of all its based off a even BETTER BOOK.
The two Metro games that are currently out are ace. Still not read the books, might have to now Exodus is on its way.
VodkaFox I reccomend the first book. Ignore all other books because the first one is way supperior to the rest.
Frost is the sequal to Dust, which is a FNV mod.
Unlikely. Metro is a mans game, it's not for dandy boys. (My attempt to shame Jon into playing Metro).
Onafoolserrand Ummmm....really don't think that will work. Besides, you may have just gave him a compliment, depending on how one preceves the definition of the word.
Thanks for posting this video, Jon! Missed this one at the time, and it's still great fun! (Both your video, and playing the game itself.)
This game looks like a lot more fun than I imagined it to be.
It is!
48 seconds in he already fucked up. NEW HIGHSCORE
Patriotic thumbs up for a Kiwi developer! I always felt including Auckland was a cruel in-joke ...
Jesus this looks like a nightmare to travel, and is giving me an aneurysm
*Gets a new locomotive
*Gets a new line
*Puts new locomotive on Green line
*Creates new Pink line
*Wonders why there isn't a locomotive on Pink line...
If it was anyone else it'd be really annoying but because its Jon its... well, still really annoying but also entertaining.
God I hope you poured a drink for Claire before she started editing this...
watched mini trains go back and forth for and hour and I was entertained the whole time thanks jon!
Jon: “New line or tunnels? Well I’m doing ok on tunnels, so let’s get a new line.”
Jon 5 seconds later: “ok I need to put a tunnel here and... I’m literally out of tunnels.”
here's why your railways didn't summon trains: because there were no trains to summon.
I've never yelled harder at my screen because of Jon's -2 Perception (because he's moved BEYOND -1 at this point). 10/10, would yell at Jon again.
Hey John...unrelated, but I wanted to thank you for showing off Hand of Fate 2 a few months ago. I put it on my list after watching you try it out, and just finished it on my PS4. I never would have found it if not for you, and I loved it immensely. Keep being you.
I have not had that much fun yelling in frustration at my TV in a long time. Thanks Jon!
I've been playing this game for years and honestly happy to see someone else play it too!
"yellow is still a major artery"
is doing less than any of the other two lines many times over. >_< oh jon...
"green will be a nice fast line"
proceed's to make it the longest line he has...
Jon when you create a new line it takes a locomotive from your pool their not always extra
This is incredibly entertaining to watch. Keep up the great work!
I'd be more than happy if Jon uploaded a lot more railway based games!
FINALLY. DanNerdcubed only covered it like 3 years ago
Zachary Finch cry more bitch
One more thing makes it they go around (making a circle out of a line) makes the line more effective picking the shapes
Wouldn’t you always want to make the lines loop, to shorten the distance between the two “ends”?

There actually is a line called "TFL Rail" which is part of a crossrail route before crossrail is fully open.
Wow,that’s a lot of lines
MORE!
At first I was watching purely happily.
By the end I'm literally screaming.
This Game is actually really good and really easy. Just build circles and allways choose wagons over the other addons. And the more small lines that work as a circle, the better.

50:00 That's okay, I never saw that station either.
You are like a master at this game!
The most intense gaming video I've ever seen
So much yelling at the TV. Probably would have done worse in his shoes, but yelling at the screen is just too much fun.
I felt that way on a subway "Just screw green line, have 6 transfers"
This game is bloody wonderful.
Please play Gorogoa. Please. It's the most beautiful, atmospheric and emotional puzzle game I've ever played, and it only takes an hour.
Such a lovely game
34 seconds in, and Jon's calling a square a circle.
This is going to end well, isn't it? 🤣
maybe the game is easier if you produce more loops making the trainlines into circles
It is! It is a pretty easy game, if you do so.
I love this game
"Lynn, I'm not driving a Mini Metro."
They re-badged it, you fool!
Well......that escalated quickly....LOOKS FUN!!!!
Poor Jon, he obviously rolled a Nat 1 in perception before he was born.
Another fine example why Jon isn't a city planner
Two words for you: Ring Road.
I put it to the people: What is worse? Jon's tube line efficiency, or his Fallout 4 settlement builds.
Sometimes the shortest distance between to points is a circle... just saying.
Just make circles, good dammit!
Its alright, I didn't notice that final station either Jon
Jon now is the future, let us see it again.
While designing a train network:
"I hit 1000 people! This has been the best one so far." - Jon, 2018
A station not on the metro caused it to close. Genius.
you know you can just grab the line pre connected and connect it to another station inbetween too stations or is that just cool math
Have you played this before or am I going insane?
he played a sort of similar game a few weeks ago, but it was way less "smooth" in it's appearance. looked more hand drawn.
Have you seen the hard mode in this game? :-). The Japan map has a nice fast train. You have a good strategy. My record is around 1600 or so.
I can’t believe you’ve never played this before.
But Jon I need to TRAIN
Never change.
More train games jon! I wanna see you play railroad tycoon 3!
I'm a train gaurd for Sydney trains and this shit gives me anxiety
Im not driving a Mini Metro.
I specifically went onto RUclips when I found out about this game just to look for this comment! Well done! You gave me a laugh!
"And a pentagon shows up."
:D
I love your videos :)
I never thought i'd see someone make London underground worse...
Circle line? That's the Hammersmith and City line mate
When the game started I thought it was going to be one of those slow, meditative puzzle games. I was wrong.
Awww yeah trains
Seems like Jon is gonna play ToR after this
We love puzzle games!
I'm still waiting to see Jon play some Factorio. Also, this looks like a pre pre pre pre pre alpha of that freeways game he played lol.
Not gonna lie, saw the thumbnail and thought Ahoy uploaded a new video.
