Truly remarkable, spiritual and holy place. Living not far from the church, I've been there more than 30 times at least but still this place never fails to amaze me and lifts me up spiritually. God Bless you for this wonderful video!! 🙂
In 1992 we been there, our friends from Montreal been so nice to us to take us to this Church were we seen all the waking sticks left behind by the people been healed ( min 6.33 ), and than other nice seen attractions from Montreal, and having a car trip to Toronto and back !! I moved from Montreal 25 years ago but I used to go up to the Oratory very, very often alone and with the occasion friend and walk around for hours. There are so many undiscovered areas that are very holy and spiritual. One in particular I would like to share is in that the 10,000 plus votive candles generate a lot of heat and have to emit this heat out into an area covered by a marble archway/portico. When you discover this in the middle of winter, it provides an intense radiating warmth that takes off the winter chill. There are many others untapped hidden treasures however, many of these are best discovered in the Spring, as the snow melts away. Safe journeys!
It is such a beautiful church, we have a family miracle that happened here. My great aunt prayed for her sister and they had no reason but she got out of the hospital and walked out with a terminal ill case. I love my faith

To understand or give meaning to the Architecture i suggest you look into The Ancient Greek Hero if your asking why? The Greek word for meaning actually means the Tomb of a Hero. Also drinking the water available from Stations of the Cross and having holy communion and then visiting the tomb is comparable to a ritual to get in contact with the "dead". Just sayin it all fits. I live just down the street. Inside it's like visiting a mall with escalators. There are actually shops. There is a nativities museum. The main part of the church is disappointingly ugly; very art nouveau. And, it's not on Mount Royal but on Westmount. There are three peaks to this dormant volcano with the cemetery in the crater.
«Le Mont-Royal» refers to the whole mountain, including the so called Westmount summit. However, Westmount is the name of a city, not the name of the mountain. The Oratory itself is not inside the boundaries of Westmount, but is in Montréal.
I actually quite like the interior of the main basilica. Distinguishes it from other churches in the neogothic or roman style. It's kinda like a fusion between older architectural styles and more modern ones. The organ itself is a work of art.
The Mont Royal is a natural mountain. I actually have no example of a man-made structure as massive as the Mont Royal, so saying that it is man-made isn't very logical.
I have been lucky enough to have lived just a 10 minute walk away from this gem for the last 8 years 😊

To understand or give meaning to the Architecture i suggest you look into The Ancient Greek Hero if your asking why? The Greek word for meaning actually means the Tomb of a Hero. Also drinking the water available from Stations of the Cross and having holy communion and then visiting the tomb is comparable to a ritual to get in contact with the "dead". Just sayin it all fits. And I my have done it, the question asked was "what was it like before all this?" . then I studied the Greek Hero.

It is incredibly impressive from the outside, but the interior is really disappointing.
I kinda agree, the interior is unfinished in my opinion.. perhaps an elaborate renovation one day.

Sound mixing is a little weird
Yeah it's my weak spot, been working on getting better at that sorry! Every project is a mish-mash of sound recorded from different types of microphones with wind, whispers, echoes, mumbles, music so I always tried to score it louder to drown some of that out. I'll get better!

I live just down the street. Inside it's like visiting a mall with escalators. There are actually shops. There is a nativities museum. The main part of the church is disappointingly ugly; very art nouveau. And, it's not on Mount Royal but on Westmount. There are three peaks to this dormant volcano with the cemetery in the crater.
Yes the interior needs some work, however Mount Royal is not a volcano, that’s a long believed urban legend.
«Le Mont-Royal» refers to the whole mountain, including the so called Westmount summit. However, Westmount is the name of a city, not the name of the mountain. The Oratory itself is not inside the boundaries of Westmount, but is in Montréal.
I actually quite like the interior of the main basilica. Distinguishes it from other churches in the neogothic or roman style. It's kinda like a fusion between older architectural styles and more modern ones. The organ itself is a work of art.
